Howard Dean quoted Truman back in the ‘04 campaign: “If you run a fake Republican against a real Republican, the real Republican will win every time.”
    —————–
The story that everyone wants to tell is that the Democratic Party is disheartened and disintegrating. Teabagger Republicans are juiced up and on top. Or so the media says, over and over again.

But the House candidate who raised the most money in the entire country during the last FEC reporting period — $860,000 in three months — is not a teabagger. He is not boosted relentlessly by Fox News. He’s not even a Republican. He doesn’t think that the Earth was created 6000 years ago, that President Obama was born in Kenya, or that global warming is a hoax.

This House candidate also, remarkably, had the largest number of contributors. Over 15,000 individuals contributed, many of whom have given time after time, whatever they could. The House candidate who raised the most money did so without French-kissing lobbyists, without flattering the idle rich, and without reaching into his own pocket.

Shannyn is livid, lol, she’s trying not to come unglued over a campaign opponent of Gov. Parnell wanting ads against domestic violence pulled because Raph Samuels says Parnell is using them to campaign. It’s ridiculous, Shannyn says she’s a Dem, Parnell is a Reb. and she wants the ads to run. The ads ask Alaska men to realize they have a choice, and they should choose to respect. Real Alaska men respect women.

I just an email from Scarah asking for Scarah Pac donations.

    “Dear Supporter,

Last month marked the one-year anniversary of Sarah PAC, and I want to personally extend to you my sincere thanks for your support and our shared goals of common sense solutions and values. It’s been an incredible year and 2010 brings us the opportunity to continue that success.

In this pivotal election year, we have an opportunity to focus our direction and spread the ideals on which our Nation was founded. There are ripe opportunities in campaigns across the Country and winning these races will be our focus. Thirty-seven Governorships, one third of the United States Senate, and the entire House of Representatives is up for election. There are State Senate and State Legislature races where only a few seats mean the difference between more of what we have seen or what we share as a vision for this great Country.

We are in a position to help make this change and I hope you will again join with us to renew your support of Sarah PAC. Your involvement is an honor and your continued support is critical to provide the ability to support those candidates and campaigns in all areas of our Nation.

I will be on the campaign trail for our candidates across this great land and with your help we can make our position stronger and increase our chances of bringing our core beliefs to the Country we love.

With an Alaskan heart and national pride, thank you for your generous support and best wishes for a prosperous and free 2010 for you, your families and those you love.

    Sarah Palin”

What ? I went in to the mod vortex again ?? Posted over on ” Chop Baby, Chop” and it was whisked off in to the netherlands.

Honest to goodness – I’m stymied as to what puts me there lately. Dear Snos / Mods – argh! ( with love )

Is there a mod / payola thing going on that I don’t know about yet ? If so, please PM the handshake/wink sequence and the invoice. I’ll gladly pay it . ( well …if it’s not more than $5 )

Being sent to the mod ” time out ” reminds me of my geek days in weekend Catholic school when I was banished for asking things like ” who came first ? Adam and Eve or the cave men ? ” ( valid questions , I say !)

Since this is an Open Thread and Buff is starring:

    A PET’S TEN COMMANDMENTS

    1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years.. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

    2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

    3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

    4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

    5. Talk to me.. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

    6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

    7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

    8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak..

    9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

    10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch.. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

I thought that perhaps everyone could use a break from you know who and cold, windy days make me a little sad sometimes (remembering those who have gone before us). Just a little perspective.

What he’s worried about is fine individuals like John Bitney and Mike Tibbles. Also, Todd Palin has been doing more than literacy campaigns and breast cancer awareness and that’s clear. Ramras says
he saw you going from office to office durin ACES. He’s also watching with amusement Sean’s chameleon act, and said he should have been running his own campaign all along. I am helping my friend (who has many rescue dogs) do her food drops for her rookie run in the Iditarod this year. She is going to have coats on her team at the start that spell out “Until there are none, Adopt one”. So cool. She is a big advocate of adopting shelter dogs (esp sled dogs) and her goal is to prove that she can do well racing with them. She came in 12th in her rookie run of The Yukon Quest last year. I handled for her and watched her excellent dog care and true concern for them (to the point of tears sometimes) throughout that gruelling race. In March I will be cheering her on to Nome!

wild tortuga and LiladyNY: Freerice is really popular at my school.

Have you explored the “other subjects” there? I “play” in Spanish, because I’m taking Spanish I (independent study). Several hundred students are taking Spanish at my school, and their teachers have told them to “speak Spanish to the librarian; help her learn and pass the class.” Whenever they see me…in the halls, the library, the cafeteria, or out in the community, we speak Spanish. It’s not “immersion” but it keeps us all on our toes.

When I introduced them to freerice in Spanish, my students (and colleagues) were so excited. They love that they can use a computer (school or away from school), build vocabulary, and help feed hungry folks, also, too. We live in the poorest county in our state, and survived a direct hit from a Terrible hurricane a few years back. These young ones have the heart to look out for one another, and to help others in many small but important ways. They are my Vitamin T(een): the perfect antidote to word salad and muck. Thank you for allowing me to share them with you.

Hey, $arah, about Hope and Change… Working just fine for me, you betcha!

Also, too, Mrs. Paylin, what does the Rev. Muthie think about you progressin’ your dabblin’ in the occult? Palm reading? Tea leaves, er bags, er whatever! Palin’ around with witchcraft, dearie? Oy vey!

I’m all teary-eyed and misty thinking of the good dogs (and cats) I’ve loved that have gone on ahead. When I get to that Rainbow Bridge, I’m going to have a huge pack waiting for me and glad I will be to have them by my side again as we cross over.

I am definitely going to try the FreeRice in Spanish! That is awesome. I love to hear stories about the Vitamin T. That’s our treasure for the future. We need to nurture them carefully so they can have the best chance to have good and happy lives.

And as for Granny Grifter – yep that Hopey-Changey thingey couldn’t be better. We have an extraordinary man to lead this country and put us back on the tracks since we’ve been derailed for the last decade or so. I still have hope, and I will do all in my power to ensure that people like her are never near a position of power.

I have enough and some to spare to help others.

our tax exempt number is 926001185. from http://www.crivellawest.net/pdf/803.pdf

Oh boy! Anyone with connections with the AK Dept of Revenue/Tax/whatever the designation is has got a major audit case on their hands to hand to them!

Can someone point me to the main page of the Revenue/Tax Dept’s website?

S’error and family has ZERO ability to use the tax exempt status of the STATE government for their own use. That means if they bought stuff and paid directly on their own credit cards/paid in cash, there is likely substantial tax fraud. Purchase of everyday items such as clothing and food for the family do NOT qualify for a state’s tax exempt status at any time. The only time the state’s exempt status passes to any employee is if the state issues a purchase order where all indemnification for loss passes to the state, or where a state provides a state credit card and the purchase is for something that is, so to speak, owned/consumed by the state after the purchase is made.

Simply because you are the governor doesn’t means the state’s exempt status is yours personally. I know, I was a state tax sales/use tax auditor for 16 years, and even when I traveled on state business, unless I traveled in the state of my employment and used the state’s credit card, I paid tax. I was reimbursed later for these expenses, but never could I use the exempt status for my own use.

Also, too, use of a state’s tax exempt number in ANY other state, such as for travel/related expenses, is not a valid use. An entity (person, school, corporation, charity, etc) must secure a valid tax exemption number for any state in which it wishes to claim an exemption.

In my audit career, I audited hundreds of hotels/restaurants and always recovered uncollected taxes when there were entity’s entitled to an exempt status in their home state failed to acquire a valid exempt certificate from my state/employer.

Note: federal government tax exempt status and taxation is handled differently.

    @ PepperzMom (GA)

Sales taxes in Alaska are by borough, not statewide. This email is referring to Gov mansion purchases, which are tax exempt by Juneau City & Borough code:

    http://www.juneau.org/financeftp/documents/code_sum2009.pdf

    SALES TAX EXEMPTION SUMMARY
    CBJ ORDINANCE 69.05.040

    (13) GOVERNMENTS OR THEIR POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS

State agencies do not pay Juneau sales tax on services or purchases.

  20. 70
    Martha Unalaska Yard Sign Says:

    @ PepperzMom (GA)

I should have been more clear – who knows if Palin used the state tax exempt number on personal purchases, but the email from staff referred specifically to the Gov’s Mansion accounts at our most frequented grocery stores, with Super Drug thrown in cause they carry all kinds of stuff for kitchen, general household, etc.

“Along with A&P (Foodland), Foodland Drug, Carrs/Safeway we have an account at SuperBear- our tax exempt number is 926001185.”

It would take a specific question to the City and Borough Sales Tax office to ensure that all Gov mansion purchases, incl. food and household supplies, are sales tax exempt. My guess is that they are, but I don’t know for sure. The Gov Mansion staff has an excellent reputation – both friends and family have had dealings with many of them over the years and they remain the backbone of running that place. In general, they didn’t like the Twit one bit, and she can sue me for repeating that rumor which I’ve heard over, and over, and over…

I just wanna WHOOP right now! Good to know that such good feelings can exist when you see so many people being so snarky all over the news. There is no black and white New Orleans tonight, there is just a Black & Gold New Orleans! WHO DAT! On a Palin note… it is a shame that AKM and the other blogger/journalists work is seeming to go for naught. The thing about that woman is that the people who follow her won’t believe or don’t care about any of the multitude of issues that keep coming up. As for the people who do see her for the fraud that she is, well, it’s preaching to the choir. I don’t see her ever becoming president, but the only good thing she could possibly do, if it were to actually happen, would be for the republicans to see the err of their ways, to shut her down, to stop the “Party of No” stuff, and actually work to make this country better. Barring that, or a prosecution, I think we’re stuck with her until people stop paying to see her.

lovemydogs: Who Dat is actually a historical phrase that dates to the 1800’s, but in the 1980’s, it became the call of the Saint’s fans whenever they won a game. This year, for obvious reasons, it has been everywhere, but especially once they won the first playoff game, it became crazy (in a good way). People are using it to end conversations, instead of getting a “bye”, you get “WHO DAT!”. We call it the Who Dat Nation and it is pure awesomeness. and yes, I’d most definitely call the Saint’s & Mitch Landrieu’s wins hopey/changey! Sure has the citizens of NOLA feeling hope for the change they so desperately need.
