Ahhhhhh thanks AKM! I needed a peaceful snow scene to soothe my weary heart after all the Palin poop!
I grew up in snow country and my favorite thing to do was walk down the snow covered roads at night with the flakes drifting down. It saved my sanity many times. I should remember to sit back and visualize those times when my blood pressure rises.
Mahalo for all the wonderful things you do for us!
Makes one wonder what Buf sees off in the distance. Five inches of new snow overnight here in SW KY – DH took one of our Chihuahuas out first thing and the snow was up to her neck! Poor baby, she was terrified and hasn’t left my lap since she came back in. I feel for those of you who don’t have dogs. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have them. Both daughters and our grandson each have homes here on our rural property and between all of us with inside and outside (hunting) dogs, we have a total of 9 big ones and 8 little ones, and all are so precious and special to us.
The Palin’s and House Staff get to ORDER FREE (with entourage) at restaurants/Drug stores/Grocery stores and ORDER FURNITURE FREE all on the State of Alaskas dime.
‘ ”Hello Governor,
There’s an account set up for the House at El Sombrero with you, Todd and Willow (plus House staff) as signers; it will include a 15-18% gratuity. When Willow goes in she can let the wait staff know who should
be included on her ticket.” ‘ …
‘ ”Along with A&P (Foodland), Foodland Drug, Carrs/Safeway we have an account at SuperBear- our tax exempt number is 926001185.” ‘
‘ ”There’s extra furniture that I had them put in your office until we find what you’d like. We can easily purchase any furniture at Lyles Home Furnishings, Southeast Furniture or even Costco. There’s extra furniture that I had them put in your office until we find what you’d like. We can easily purchase any furniture at Lyles Home Furnishings, Southeast Furniture or even Costco. Those are easiest since they’re local, but we can buy furniture anywhere that you prefer. There’s a really nice black leather set with white stitching at Lyles with a nice leather ottoman, plus a whole lot more.” ‘
I don’t know why I haven’t gone into politics before. This is insane.
Did Bristol pay order her birth control and or pregnancy pharamas at Foodland Drug or wherever she was living on the State dime? And if so, isn’t that discoverable? (hint hint)
I’m still stuck on Palin’s defense of Limbaugh’s use of the word “retards” on Fox, Sunday. I have written another email, this one to Dr. Shriver expressing my concern:
“Dear Dr. Shriver,
I find it troubling that, for whatever reason, The Special Olympics has not taken Mrs. Palin to task for back peddling on her outrage over Rahm Emanuel’s use of the word “retards” when it was repeatedly used by Rush Limbaugh last week. Sunday, on Fox, Mrs. Palin laughed at the suggestion that there was anything wrong with Mr. Limbaugh’s use, defending it as “satire”. She even went so far as to agree with its use since it described “kooks” in her opinion. This obvious political pandering at the expense of the movement that the Special Olympics represents is beyond shameful.
I would hope that the Special Olympics not hesitate in calling her out, or are men the only people to be held accountable? ”
I really believe that this must be addressed because Mrs. Palin seems to be able to get away with just about anything since people are afraid to call her out on her words and actions. The following is the staff listing for the Special Olympics; most of the email addresses I’ve seen are listed as the first initial of the first name, then last name @specialolympics.org. (Mandy Murphy would be mmurphy@specialolympics.org):
I was planning to make this a mostly Palin free day but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Her speech to the loggers put me right over the edge. That bit about ” i named my daughter Willow – isn’t that granola enough for them” has me seeing stars. I have a box of granola in my cupboard and I just wanna beat her flippin’ senseless with it. ( and I’m a pacifist ! )
aha @9 – if you haven’t already, could you post that Palin email over at Palingates ? That’s a nice addition .
Also, over on Palingates there’s a sobering “boot on the ground” post by CR46 sharing a recent stint in Haiti working as a nurse. http://www.Palingates.blogspot.com
And to everyone that will be getting hit again with the storm, I hope you’ll all be Safe & Warm! Good luck !!!
Palingates is working very hard to sort out the emails. It’s a mind boggling circle of backs being scratched and who’s in whose pockets. Cronyism at Valley Dairy, seeming tax fraud from the Alaska Inaugural Committee, influence peddling, collusion all over the place. The corruption is indescribable. It makes Ted Stevens and Frank Murkowski look like pikers. It doesn’t seem that there was one part of the entire Alaska administration that was not affected. It’s my opinion that there is a lot of CYA happening in Juneau. The AIC website suddenly has been scrubbed. Thank goodness for Google cache and the Wayback machine.
CR46′s time in Haiti is a sobering reminder that the work and need continues and will continue for a long time. We must not become complacent.
We’re expecting another snowstorm later today. Over the weekend we got one inch here on the North Shore of SI while the South Shore got 6-8 inches. That was weird. I think we’re in for quite a bit more this time.
My “snow dog” went out this morning, did her thing, then laid down on the deck and let the snow collect on her back until her long thick black fur was white. Dogs appreciate the beauty and fun of snow.
We’re expecting about a foot of it today, yet, school was still open. Huh.
LiLadyNY – I’ve been trying to keep up over at Palingates but my screen keeps freezing and I get a script error. It’s driving me batty! I’m glad we have so many eyes on those emails. From what I’ve been able to keep up with, it’s just mind boggling. I spent the weekend going through the emails and it made me sick. I literally have had a headache for a week and I swear it’s due to her !
Many new links over on the Palin Truth Watch twitter account – http://www.twitter.com/PalinTruthWatch Many of the links that were posted here since Friday are collected over there.
sheesh… just finished with the 2 feet of snow from the weekend and now we are scheduled to get nearly 2 more feet of the stuff… like, wtf does mother nature think I live – Alaska? Drag that jet stream back up your way, willya?
A nurse anonymously reported a dr she felt was practicing “bad medicine.” She’s now facing charges for it. This is what some would have happen in Alaska.
BuffaloGal – I had a lot of problems with Firefox “gumming” up and switched to Opera. Voila – all better.
I’ll certainly look at PalinTruthWatch.
BTW, I post as “emiliepeacock” at Palingates. Mr. Dedman of MSNBC has been very responsive to correspondence with him about these emails.
I also believe, Andree McLeod and Celtic Diva have some solid grounds to get access to those emails held back for “executive privilege” since we have it from the “horses a**, er mouth” that Todd was just a private citizen.
I just received a response to my email to the Special Olympics (that I posted at #11):
“Thanks for your note. And I appreciate your concern over Mrs. Palin’s comments. Rest assured that on many occasions, I have written to prominent women about this issue. Sadly, the use of the R word is not restrained to one gender.
In this case, we are working hard to not become entangled in politics. Both Mr. Emanuel and Mr. Limbaugh used the word in a way that called for attention. Mrs. Palin did not. Her opinions about others’ use of the term—like the opinions of thousands of people who have written to us and to others on this issue– are her own. If she herself were to use the term in a mocking or disparaging way, I would write her. But I do not feel it appropriate to challenger her opinions about others who use the term. In my mind, that would take me beyond my mission in this work.
I’m expecting that you might disagree with me on this. If so, I regret that. But I also hope that it might be clear that all of us at Special Olympics are trying hard to elevate the voices of our athletes and their vision of eliminating the pervasive discrimination they face without overreaching. I’m sure we’ll make mistakes as we move ahead, but we will do our best.
Sigh. Not very satisfying. However, Granny Grifter’s HYPOCRISY is all over teh Intertubz® and she has turned out to be the joke. Stephen Colbert has done a particularly scathing piece about her.
See austin, that’s just a great example of common sense conservatism at work, dontcha know! Having 2 of the same vowel sitting together in one word is just a communist, marxist, socialist waste of vowelism.
LiladyNY – I haven’t tried Opera yet. ( at least I don’t think I have ) My puter didn’t care for Google Chrome so I’ve been using Firefox. ( that’s funny that you’re emiliepeacock over on Palingates. always enjoy your posts over there and often wondered if emilieP was on the flats as well )
For those of you stuck inside today and looking for places to wander to online, go to Mario’s site above and click on the “original art” link. He’s done some really interesting graphics.
I don’t care for Google Chrome either. I only use it for Google Earth which I LOVE!
LOL – I saw that name years ago on a sign out in the backcountry somewhere and fell in love with it. When I finally decided to “come out” on Palingates, I chose it as my name. I DO have a daughter named Emily which is probably why it resonates with me.
I had a thought whilst having coffee and watching Colbert and Stewart skewer Mrs. Grifter.
She can scribble “lift american spirits” again on her hand when she goes to the Liquor Conference speech!
heheh.
I hate what she’s doing to my country. And shame on those teabaggers and other racist bigots who think she’s the cat’s a$$.
I am preparing for snow tomorrow… Wheee!!! I need some pretty white pristine snow cover.. things are getting dreary. It feels like November. I might even go sledding!
I just got an email from a friend (who may turn into a former friend) about Michelle Obama’s White House staff and how she has forty-seven bazillion people on her staff when Laura Bush had ONE, blah blah blah!
I sent it back to her with links to snopes.com and the Washington Post’s article about all White House staff dating back to 2003 with their titles and salaries.
I wrote that I found chain emails like this one with “their obvious undertone of innuendo and misinformation offensive and they should not be disseminated.”
I don’t care if I lose friendship over this at this point in time. I am sick and tired of this kind of racist cr*p still going round and round. And no one will convince me that it is otherwise. It has to be stopped! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
“Got a fur coat gathering dust? The Humane Society suggests the ultimate recycling – putting it on the backs of other animals.
The Coats for Cubs program helps orphaned, injured or sick wildlife by gathering fur coats and using them for nests, bedding or cuddly replacements for mom and dad. In 2009, 2,687 fur items were donated.”
IF I had a fur, I’d cut it up first before donating it…. you never know what scoundrels there are in organizations. But the idea is fabulous!!!
I had to do that with my own MOTHER! She lives in Red Florida and watches Billo. She used to send me all that crap and I firmly told her that my opinions and information were firmly rooted in reality and I did not appreciate her sending me that stuff. Her response was, “Well Excuuuuuse me!” I’ve gotten nothing since and it’s an unspoken rule that she does not forward those stupid things to me.
When I was at her house in April, I made her watch Shannyn on MSNBC with me )
See austin, that’s just a great example of common sense conservatism at work, dontcha know! Having 2 of the same vowel sitting together in one word is just a communist, marxist, socialist waste of vowelism.

I have a couple of families in my extended family that do/did homeschool. Now, I know that many home schoolers do a great job. I’ve seen that too. In my family, one family is from the fanatic left. Six kids, all grown, and five of them still live at home. Don’t date, don’t go out except with each other, barely work. They can’t work for anyone else because they have no social skills whatsoever and barely any education. If you visit their house, they still try to “hide” behind their mom, or hide in their rooms in their pajamas, blogging. They are truly basement bloggers and it’s awful.
The second family are from the fanatic right. Birthers, anti environment, NRA and so on. Their kids are still elementary school age. They don’t read, write, or do math. Their social skills consist of throwing things at other kids and head butting adults in the stomach. I guess they figure on one will say anything since we don’t want disagreement at family gatherings. This year, for “school,” they’ve taken off and are doing a tour of sunshine state zoos, amusement parks, and other fun stuff (not national parks.) They plan to head north and catch their amusement parks and zoos this summer.
Two things no child left behind needs to include (and I don’t like this law, I’ve been a teacher) is mandatory twice a year testing for home schooled kids in all subjects, including social skills, administered in a public school setting by a neutral proctor. AND a state approved curriculum.
wonderful story by CR46 at Palingates, thanks for the heads-up, Buffalo Gal.
As an everyday habit, something fun to do is to go over to http://www.freerice.com (works with the UN for world wide food distribution).
It’s a vocabulary game- for each right answer, another grain of rice goes into a bowl…and the difficulty level rises and falls. I always think it would be a great contest for school groups. Just a very tiny thing, but many tiny things add up.
Besides, it’s so educational Sarah would turn purple (but like the Soup N-zi, no grains of rice for her)!
Oh, http://www.freerice.com has an initial screen shot for donations for Haiti right now, but just click “no” to go past it and try the game…apologies for how embarrassing it is to bypass the donation…..
Not sure if this has been linked yet -
Another opin of the former 1/2 term Gov

But what I try to recapture more than anything is what politics was like before a fraud like Sarah Palin came along. Seriously, that is what Palin is. A fraud. Nothing more, nothing less. There is no shortage of examples that show her sheer lack of intelligence (“I read all newspapers!”), or moral double-standards particularly on the issue of teens and abstinence. [end snip]
#32 & 33 @R’ipley – what a great idea. The only fur I wear is when I’m wrapped in my three cats and little doggy, but I do have a faux fur jacket hanging in my closet that I haven’t worn in years. Next trip to my local shelter, it’s coming with me.
Re the email – I wish now that I had challenged her as well as letting her know in no uncertain terms that I did not appreciate such dreck. I wish now that I had asked her what was the purpose of sending that email. What message did she intend to send along with it. My red hair goes on fire a little too fast sometimes.
#37 @Baker’s Dozen – when my children were preparing to go to school, I briefly flirted with the idea of home schooling as our school district was dead last in reading scores borough-wide. While I am well-educated and literate and have common sense up the wazoo, I decided that I am not qualified to be totally responsible for the education of my children so I sucked it up, got a second job and sent them to private school. I would rather have moved to a better school district, but that was out of the question at that time. I don’t believe for one moment that I would have done as well for them as they got in their formal education. I also might add, that they went to same-sex, uniform-wearing schools of which I greatly approve. Children fare better, I think when they have the opportunities to concentrate on their schoolwork without the peripheral distractions of the opposite sex and commercialism in clothing. I have never regretted it.
#39 @wild tortuga – what a great idea. I love games. I do the NY Times crossword every day and the Sunday puzzle (in ink – shameless bragging). I also am a fanatic for Acrostics. When I had surgery due to a skiing accident years ago, a friend gave my a book of them to help pass the time and I became hooked.
Check the sign the kid is holding at the Perry/Palin soiree. http://www.houstonpress.com/slideshow/view/29258322

not only can’t the kid spell, the adults, who brought him there, can’t read.
Yikes !! I’m here in Boulder and lookee here……..Rove and Dean gonna have a debate.
The both of ‘em together cost 56k thru the Harry Walker Agency. Just think , for a 100k , they could have gotten a f^*kin’ retard to spew nonsense. http://www.dailycamera.com/ci_14219842
Jane Mayer is being interviewed on NPR just now. Fascinating.
I have now lost all respect I ever had for Republicans and my feelings that Scott Brown is a slimy, underhanded dog were correct. His views on terrorism and torture were never widely articulated.
Howard Dean quoted Truman back in the ’04 campaign: “If you run a fake Republican against a real Republican, the real Republican will win every time.”
—————–
The story that everyone wants to tell is that the Democratic Party is disheartened and disintegrating. Teabagger Republicans are juiced up and on top. Or so the media says, over and over again.
But the House candidate who raised the most money in the entire country during the last FEC reporting period — $860,000 in three months — is not a teabagger. He is not boosted relentlessly by Fox News. He’s not even a Republican. He doesn’t think that the Earth was created 6000 years ago, that President Obama was born in Kenya, or that global warming is a hoax.
This House candidate also, remarkably, had the largest number of contributors. Over 15,000 individuals contributed, many of whom have given time after time, whatever they could. The House candidate who raised the most money did so without French-kissing lobbyists, without flattering the idle rich, and without reaching into his own pocket.
[...]
Freshman Democrat Alan Grayson, number one in the country. The story that no one will tell. It doesn’t fit their preconceptions. So you’re just not going to hear about it.
Shannyn is livid, lol, she’s trying not to come unglued over a campaign opponent of Gov. Parnell wanting ads against domestic violence pulled because Raph Samuels says Parnell is using them to campaign. It’s ridiculous, Shannyn says she’s a Dem, Parnell is a Reb. and she wants the ads to run. The ads ask Alaska men to realize they have a choice, and they should choose to respect. Real Alaska men respect women.
Found a nice e-mail at our favorite new searchable database.
Dated July, 22, 2008. Seems to indicate these people knew full well what they were doing and particularly Todd’s involvement was wrong, wrong and wrong.
I just an email from Scarah asking for Scarah Pac donations.
“Dear Supporter,
Last month marked the one-year anniversary of Sarah PAC, and I want to personally extend to you my sincere thanks for your support and our shared goals of common sense solutions and values. It’s been an incredible year and 2010 brings us the opportunity to continue that success.
In this pivotal election year, we have an opportunity to focus our direction and spread the ideals on which our Nation was founded. There are ripe opportunities in campaigns across the Country and winning these races will be our focus. Thirty-seven Governorships, one third of the United States Senate, and the entire House of Representatives is up for election. There are State Senate and State Legislature races where only a few seats mean the difference between more of what we have seen or what we share as a vision for this great Country.
We are in a position to help make this change and I hope you will again join with us to renew your support of Sarah PAC. Your involvement is an honor and your continued support is critical to provide the ability to support those candidates and campaigns in all areas of our Nation.
I will be on the campaign trail for our candidates across this great land and with your help we can make our position stronger and increase our chances of bringing our core beliefs to the Country we love.
With an Alaskan heart and national pride, thank you for your generous support and best wishes for a prosperous and free 2010 for you, your families and those you love.
Sarah Palin”

and one from a Co-Sponsor of CPAC, who is advertising a seminar at the CPAC gathering.
I wonder if this is tied that other “Focus on the Family”? can this be legal? mixing political action groups with ministries? there is more to the email, fluff stuff.
Focus on the Family Action

What ? I went in to the mod vortex again ?? Posted over on ” Chop Baby, Chop” and it was whisked off in to the netherlands.
Honest to goodness – I’m stymied as to what puts me there lately. Dear Snos / Mods – argh! ( with love )
Is there a mod / payola thing going on that I don’t know about yet ? If so, please PM the handshake/wink sequence and the invoice. I’ll gladly pay it . ( well …if it’s not more than $5 )
Being sent to the mod ” time out ” reminds me of my geek days in weekend Catholic school when I was banished for asking things like ” who came first ? Adam and Eve or the cave men ? ” ( valid questions , I say !)
Since this is an Open Thread and Buff is starring:
A PET’S TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years.. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me.. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak..
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch.. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
I thought that perhaps everyone could use a break from you know who and cold, windy days make me a little sad sometimes (remembering those who have gone before us). Just a little perspective.
if you’d like to view the video First Lady Michelle Obama has put out concerning childhood obesity here is the link, I haven’t watched it yet, I’m sure it is good. I’m listening to Shannyn.
from the email link Terp posted above…..Toad, Toad, Toad, quit doin Scarahs job, advising her is one thing, advising the Legs? ah, not okay.
“Just listened to Ramras on Fagan. He said Baily and Frye are fine enough people but he’s not worried about what is found on them in the emails. What he’s worried about is fine individuals like John Bitney and Mike Tibbles. Also, Todd Palin has been doing more than literacy campaigns and breast cancer awareness and that’s clear. Ramras says
he saw you going from office to office durin ACES. He’s also watching with amusement Sean’s chameleon act, and said he should have been running his own campaign all along. Dan played the clips of Sean’s ads. One with Sarah’s name in it, and the other without it. Frank, did Sean really do this??”
ROSTON
Say No @59 & 60 – I lost my link to Shannyn’s show about an hour ago. I was happy tho that I got to catch Geoffrey Dunn. What a good chat that was. I hope he’ll be on more shows , and soon.
Re: the mod filter and snagging my posts – I swear ! I didn’t reference the sea monkey realm by name, no cussing, no names of the $P children, nada! My conspiracy theory is that is has to do with shake down. I’ve watched The Godfather and Goodfellas enough times to know . ( If I had a good 1940′s New York accent to use for effect , I would. Sadly, even my Buffalonian one falls short )
Lovemydogs @ 58 – You hit my heart with that . When I take my walks through the neighborhood, I see too many pups tied up outside and I want to steal/adopt every one of them. I’ve taken to putting rawhide snacks in my pocket so I can treat them on my walks. ( if they’re open to it ! )
I am helping my friend (who has many rescue dogs) do her food drops for her rookie run in the Iditarod this year. She is going to have coats on her team at the start that spell out “Until there are none, Adopt one”. So cool. She is a big advocate of adopting shelter dogs (esp sled dogs) and her goal is to prove that she can do well racing with them. She came in 12th in her rookie run of The Yukon Quest last year. I handled for her and watched her excellent dog care and true concern for them (to the point of tears sometimes) throughout that gruelling race. In March I will be cheering her on to Nome!
wild tortuga and LiladyNY: Freerice is really popular at my school.
Have you explored the “other subjects” there? I “play” in Spanish, because I’m taking Spanish I (independent study). Several hundred students are taking Spanish at my school, and their teachers have told them to “speak Spanish to the librarian; help her learn and pass the class.” Whenever they see me…in the halls, the library, the cafeteria, or out in the community, we speak Spanish. It’s not “immersion” but it keeps us all on our toes.
When I introduced them to freerice in Spanish, my students (and colleagues) were so excited. They love that they can use a computer (school or away from school), build vocabulary, and help feed hungry folks, also, too. We live in the poorest county in our state, and survived a direct hit from a Terrible hurricane a few years back. These young ones have the heart to look out for one another, and to help others in many small but important ways. They are my Vitamin T(een): the perfect antidote to word salad and muck. Thank you for allowing me to share them with you.
Hey, $arah, about Hope and Change… Working just fine for me, you betcha!
Also, too, Mrs. Paylin, what does the Rev. Muthie think about you progressin’ your dabblin’ in the occult? Palm reading? Tea leaves, er bags, er whatever! Palin’ around with witchcraft, dearie? Oy vey!
lovemydogs,
Please keep us posted on the Iditarod so we can cheer your friend on. What an adventure!
Also, too, for misty-eyed images of JoJo the wonderbeast , of blessed memory, who was buried with his frisbee, wrapped in his favorite blanket, under his favorite tree in the mountains…in the last millennium. I miss him, still, also, too, as much as I miss snow days.
Yea! That Hopey, Changey thing is working out just fine for me too. I think we need a T-shirt devoted to just that thought. Something like:
Hope and Change
Can’t live without it
(and of course I would add a few choice words for her here but I would get moderated)
I’m all teary-eyed and misty thinking of the good dogs (and cats) I’ve loved that have gone on ahead. When I get to that Rainbow Bridge, I’m going to have a huge pack waiting for me and glad I will be to have them by my side again as we cross over.
I am definitely going to try the FreeRice in Spanish! That is awesome. I love to hear stories about the Vitamin T. That’s our treasure for the future. We need to nurture them carefully so they can have the best chance to have good and happy lives.
And as for Granny Grifter – yep that Hopey-Changey thingey couldn’t be better. We have an extraordinary man to lead this country and put us back on the tracks since we’ve been derailed for the last decade or so. I still have hope, and I will do all in my power to ensure that people like her are never near a position of power.
Oh boy! Anyone with connections with the AK Dept of Revenue/Tax/whatever the designation is has got a major audit case on their hands to hand to them!
Can someone point me to the main page of the Revenue/Tax Dept’s website?
S’error and family has ZERO ability to use the tax exempt status of the STATE government for their own use. That means if they bought stuff and paid directly on their own credit cards/paid in cash, there is likely substantial tax fraud. Purchase of everyday items such as clothing and food for the family do NOT qualify for a state’s tax exempt status at any time. The only time the state’s exempt status passes to any employee is if the state issues a purchase order where all indemnification for loss passes to the state, or where a state provides a state credit card and the purchase is for something that is, so to speak, owned/consumed by the state after the purchase is made.
Simply because you are the governor doesn’t means the state’s exempt status is yours personally. I know, I was a state tax sales/use tax auditor for 16 years, and even when I traveled on state business, unless I traveled in the state of my employment and used the state’s credit card, I paid tax. I was reimbursed later for these expenses, but never could I use the exempt status for my own use.
Also, too, use of a state’s tax exempt number in ANY other state, such as for travel/related expenses, is not a valid use. An entity (person, school, corporation, charity, etc) must secure a valid tax exemption number for any state in which it wishes to claim an exemption.
In my audit career, I audited hundreds of hotels/restaurants and always recovered uncollected taxes when there were entity’s entitled to an exempt status in their home state failed to acquire a valid exempt certificate from my state/employer.
Note: federal government tax exempt status and taxation is handled differently.
Sales taxes in Alaska are by borough, not statewide. This email is referring to Gov mansion purchases, which are tax exempt by Juneau City & Borough code:
I should have been more clear – who knows if Palin used the state tax exempt number on personal purchases, but the email from staff referred specifically to the Gov’s Mansion accounts at our most frequented grocery stores, with Super Drug thrown in cause they carry all kinds of stuff for kitchen, general household, etc.
“Along with A&P (Foodland), Foodland Drug, Carrs/Safeway we have an account at SuperBear- our tax exempt number is 926001185.”
It would take a specific question to the City and Borough Sales Tax office to ensure that all Gov mansion purchases, incl. food and household supplies, are sales tax exempt. My guess is that they are, but I don’t know for sure. The Gov Mansion staff has an excellent reputation – both friends and family have had dealings with many of them over the years and they remain the backbone of running that place. In general, they didn’t like the Twit one bit, and she can sue me for repeating that rumor which I’ve heard over, and over, and over…
Great posts here! Ms. Palin’s can of worms has just been opened. Do you think there is any connection with the “B” girl (remember her? ) and the silly palm theatrics? My guess is no, but the similarity is not lost on me. Ms. Palin should put an “L” on her forehead and I hope she does it in front of a mirror.
Can I just say I think Buf is the cutest! Lovely picture and a great capture of a moment in time . I think she sees something “over there” and once this picture was shot was was after it. Hugs to Buf and all doggies everywhere!
On a non-Palin, totally OT note, I’m just home from the Saint’s Superbowl parade. Man, that was fantabulous! The feeling in this city is electric and most definitely contagious. I just wanna WHOOP right now! Good to know that such good feelings can exist when you see so many people being so snarky all over the news. There is no black and white New Orleans tonight, there is just a Black & Gold New Orleans! WHO DAT! We elected a new mayor on Saturday (one who can hopefully get things back on track finally), the Saint’s won the Superbowl on Sunday… things are definitely looking up here.
On a Palin note… it is a shame that AKM and the other blogger/journalists work is seeming to go for naught. The thing about that woman is that the people who follow her won’t believe or don’t care about any of the multitude of issues that keep coming up. As for the people who do see her for the fraud that she is, well, it’s preaching to the choir. I don’t see her ever becoming president, but the only good thing she could possibly do, if it were to actually happen, would be for the republicans to see the err of their ways, to shut her down, to stop the “Party of No” stuff, and actually work to make this country better. Barring that, or a prosecution, I think we’re stuck with her until people stop paying to see her.
Lovemydogs & thatcrowwoman – The dogs love us in spite of ourselves. It’s like they see the best in us and go with that, regardless of how lazy or oblivious we may actually be at any given time. What a blessing.
I don’t think we are giving $P enough credit for planning ahead. She wrote on her palm “Lift American Spirits” — which is a reminder to have Piper pocket the Caesar’s Palace minibar bottles at the Wine and Spirit Wholesalers Convention.
lovemydogs: Who Dat is actually a historical phrase that dates to the 1800′s, but in the 1980′s, it became the call of the Saint’s fans whenever they won a game. This year, for obvious reasons, it has been everywhere, but especially once they won the first playoff game, it became crazy (in a good way). People are using it to end conversations, instead of getting a “bye”, you get “WHO DAT!”. We call it the Who Dat Nation and it is pure awesomeness. and yes, I’d most definitely call the Saint’s & Mitch Landrieu’s wins hopey/changey! Sure has the citizens of NOLA feeling hope for the change they so desperately need.
Cute puppy!
I do luv the snow.
puppies and snow! didn’t we all act like puppies on a snow day?
love the picture and there is nothing like fresh snow
Ahhhhhh thanks AKM! I needed a peaceful snow scene to soothe my weary heart after all the Palin poop!
I grew up in snow country and my favorite thing to do was walk down the snow covered roads at night with the flakes drifting down. It saved my sanity many times. I should remember to sit back and visualize those times when my blood pressure rises.
Mahalo for all the wonderful things you do for us!
Luv Buf too! He’s having fun.
Kiss him on the nose for me. I miss having a dog sooo very much – can’t have one in a condo.
Signed: Dog deprived…..
Another great picture of that sweet, sweet pup. Thank you for sharing it. Signed, Another Dog-deprived person.

Those are easiest since they’re local, but we can buy furniture anywhere that you prefer. I don’t know why I haven’t gone into politics before. This is insane.

Morning Snowy Buf! Morning All !
#!3 @BuffaloGal
Everyone stay safe and warm.
My “snow dog” went out this morning, did her thing, then laid down on the deck and let the snow collect on her back until her long thick black fur was white. Dogs appreciate the beauty and fun of snow.
We’re expecting about a foot of it today, yet, school was still open. Huh.
Another great picture of Buf. I’m thinking she has seen a bunny in the trees but that’s just my imagination.
She is a gorgeous dog. I’m sad for those Mudpuppies that can’t have dogs. It’s a real shame.
Newsflash to Stupid Retarded Sarah (like her I’m not about political correctness) – “being granola” is about more than a name! Dumba**.

We’re getting snow tomorrow. We missed the weekend storm (a foot in Phila. & none here!), and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s flakes.
Health and peace.
sheesh… just finished with the 2 feet of snow from the weekend and now we are scheduled to get nearly 2 more feet of the stuff… like, wtf does mother nature think I live – Alaska? Drag that jet stream back up your way, willya?
This reminds me of the current climate in AK legislature is re the ethics complaints:

A nurse anonymously reported a dr she felt was practicing “bad medicine.” She’s now facing charges for it. This is what some would have happen in Alaska.
Well this is certainly going to light a fire under $P . Iran is threatening some sort of severe blow to the west and it’s slated for this Thursday
http://pajamasmedia.com/michaelledeen/2010/02/08/what-is-iran-planning-for-thursday/
warmonger facebook screeching from $P-RAM should be coming any minute now ….
Sincerely,
Tim”

LOL – I saw that name years ago on a sign out in the backcountry somewhere and fell in love with it. When I finally decided to “come out” on Palingates, I chose it as my name. I DO have a daughter named Emily which is probably why it resonates with me.
adorable.
Ooooh I am FURIOUS!
Here’s your good idea for the year, people!!!

LiLadyNY:
I had to do that with my own MOTHER! She lives in Red Florida and watches Billo. She used to send me all that crap and I firmly told her that my opinions and information were firmly rooted in reality and I did not appreciate her sending me that stuff. Her response was, “Well Excuuuuuse me!” I’ve gotten nothing since and it’s an unspoken rule that she does not forward those stupid things to me.
When I was at her house in April, I made her watch Shannyn on MSNBC with me

Austin, I will have you know that I have NEVER chased Rachel, no matter what the paparazzi says!! LOL
wonderful story by CR46 at Palingates, thanks for the heads-up, Buffalo Gal.

Ah R’ipley…….What I meant was , did ya have your mom watch Rachel as a chaser after ya gave her a dose of Shannyn ??

Nope. You know me better than that.
Unless you happen to read the Huffington Post.

Buffalogal, lol, it happened to me yesterday, I used the ocean of urine name.
from the email link Terp posted above…..Toad, Toad, Toad, quit doin Scarahs job, advising her is one thing, advising the Legs? ah, not okay.
Oy vey!
ick ick ick enough of her
Vitamin T, anyone?
lovemydogs,
Please keep us posted on the Iditarod so we can cheer your friend on. What an adventure!
Also, too, for misty-eyed images of JoJo the wonderbeast , of blessed memory, who was buried with his frisbee, wrapped in his favorite blanket, under his favorite tree in the mountains…in the last millennium. I miss him, still, also, too, as much as I miss snow days.
thatcrowwoman:
Yea! That Hopey, Changey thing is working out just fine for me too. I think we need a T-shirt devoted to just that thought. Something like:
Hope and Change
Can’t live without it
(and of course I would add a few choice words for her here but I would get moderated)
(((thatcrowwoman))) (((lovemydogs)))
I have enough and some to spare to help others.
our tax exempt number is 926001185. from http://www.crivellawest.net/pdf/803.pdf

This email is referring to Gov mansion purchases, which are tax exempt by Juneau City & Borough code:
http://www.juneau.org/financeftp/documents/code_sum2009.pdf
SALES TAX EXEMPTION SUMMARY
CBJ ORDINANCE 69.05.040
(13) GOVERNMENTS OR THEIR POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS
State agencies do not pay Juneau sales tax on services or purchases.
@ PepperzMom (GA)
In general, they didn’t like the Twit one bit, and she can sue me for repeating that rumor which I’ve heard over, and over, and over…
Here’s the Juneau Sales Tax office link:

Thanks, Martha. Context is the key.
Not that S’error even understands what context means…
Great posts here! Ms. Palin’s can of worms has just been opened. Do you think there is any connection with the “B” girl (remember her?
) and the silly palm theatrics? My guess is no, but the similarity is not lost on me. Ms. Palin should put an “L” on her forehead and I hope she does it in front of a mirror.
Can I just say I think Buf is the cutest! Lovely picture and a great capture of a moment in time . I think she sees something “over there” and once this picture was shot was was after it. Hugs to Buf and all doggies everywhere!
Recap to S’error weekend adventures in blah-ness…

WHO DAT!!! NOLA. Thanks for your input. I can only imagine the joy in your city. I feel your joy and wish you well.
Merci, SeattleFan! (Seattle is one of my favorite places)
Il ne fait rien! NOLA! Felicitations !!! (sans “le accent/”)
BUF!
NOLA:
My mother wants to know where “Who Dat” came from. Can you fill me in? Then I can write her and show how smart and with it I am (heh).
I’ve been rooting for the Saints for forever. Congrats!
Can we think of the Saints’ win as one of those Hopey, changey things???
Lovemydogs & thatcrowwoman – The dogs love us in spite of ourselves. It’s like they see the best in us and go with that, regardless of how lazy or oblivious we may actually be at any given time. What a blessing.
I don’t think we are giving $P enough credit for planning ahead. She wrote on her palm “Lift American Spirits” — which is a reminder to have Piper pocket the Caesar’s Palace minibar bottles at the Wine and Spirit Wholesalers Convention.
Phil Harris, captain of the Cornelia Marie in “Deadliest Catch” has died.

lovemydogs: Who Dat is actually a historical phrase that dates to the 1800′s, but in the 1980′s, it became the call of the Saint’s fans whenever they won a game.
