Loved the maddow piece. Nothing so demonstrates how self-referenced these folks are. I wonder what Limbaugh’s explanation will be for 50 degree weather in Vancouver. “Global warming, screwed up weather” ought to be the bumper sticker.
Here in near Burlington Vermont we haven’t been colder than -5 this year. There’s still time of course, but if we don’t get colder weather that will be the warmest low winter temperature of my long life, I am sure. Many growing zone maps still have us at zone 4, average low temperature -30, and that was certainly accurate growing up. Some have finally changed us to zone 5, average low temperature -20. I don’t think we’ve hit that for 3 years.

Nah, Paula, those aren’t photos of Tundra Tetard with a teleprompter…you’ve got it all confused. What they *are* pictures of, are TT speechifying with a blank piece of plastic in her near vicinity to :
1) remind TT of the birth cert she’s *not* seen for POTUS
2) keep her reflective radiance from blinding the Faux News cameraperson
3) act as a harbinger of her youngest daughter’s progress report from school (so she won’t be surprised when it shows up in the TT snail-mail box)
4) act as a screen to keep the bright lights from making her left palm sweat off her invaluable talking-points
5) keep close to her a complete listing of all the plans *she* has for progressing Alasssska (and the lower 48)
6) reiterate -in no uncertain terms- the sum total of her intellectual curiosity and, as a result, her intellect
I’m sure there are other PalinWorld-totally acceptable and perfectly logical ‘explanations’ for why the blank piece of plastic is shown in so many pictures of her. Any other mudpups want to add to the list? beth.
@6 Paula. Hilarious. Thanks for sharing the teleprompter link. That’s exactly what I have been looking for….a visual guide to her hypocricy.
I knew there was a photo of her during her quittin speech using a telepromter, but I couldn’t find it. I love the photo that shows her words are right on the telepromter…..John and I will…bla, bla, bla….
I’m sure her fans will claim that she didn’t use the teleprompter…even through it was there for her. Bull.
The other thing this proves is that Sarah is still reading the blogs. The whole teleprompter thingie has only been discussed on blogs where her fans started claiming that, the grifter didn’t use one.
Good morning, everyone. Just commented on the Rouge Star post, but it applies here, also, too:

Yes. You. Did.

What I am witnessing is an attempted defilement of the concept of what the Tea Party’s purposes are and where we are going. The bastardization of our message I find bilious and disingenuous on its face.
Tea Party members are being eyed as just another piece of voting meat. Tea Party members are targeted for filling the rank and file of minion laden political operations, most of which are lead (sic) by failed Republican hacks.

Big Pete #19 links to a story about the leader of teaparty dot org, Dale Robertson, who wrote a scathing comment at his website about Republicans trying to take over the Tea Party.
There is a picture of Mr. Robertson that we have all seen included with this story – the one where he has a sign with the N word on it.
Well get this, the picture has now been photoshopped to change the sign! Now it says “I work 4 U”. If you go to his website, there is a third photoshopped version, again taking off the N word.
So this photoshopping liar is complaining that the Republicans are misrepresenting the views of the tea partiers? Priceless!

It’s Still Raining here, but littlebird just called from college 500 miles away northwest as the crow flies. She was breathless with excitement: “Mama! It’s Still Snowing! Classes have been called off! We’ve already had a snowball fight and made snow angels and now we’re going to the caf’ to eat breakfast and “borrow” some trays so we can go sledding in the Bowl…and Oh! Mama! The possibilities are endless!!!!”
Littlebird has celebrated few snows in her young life, but the joy and wonder fills my heart and carries me home.

Palin’s crazy “base” making headlines……Oh, man!….she bought and paid for these kind of people with her gun-wavey, self-righteousey braggin’ about her superlative credentials as a leader in the “Guns ‘N God” battalion from hell:
“The Massachusetts man charged this week for stockpiling weapons after saying he feared an imminent “Armageddon” appears to have been active in the Tea Party movement, and saw Sarah Palin, who he said is on a “righteous ‘Mission from God,’” as the only figure capable of averting the destruction of society. - Reply If you watch the video, for a split second, you can see what little is left of Gretchen Carlson’s soul die just a little bit more when the ex-class Valedictorian/Stanford grad/Oxford attendee talks up how awesome Sarah Palin is for having to write her party’s talking points on a hand for a Q and A with her own supporters in case she forgets them.
Here’s the thing: Everyone scribbles notes on their hands at some point for whatever reason. That’s not the thing that is ridiculous. What is ridiculous is Sarah Palin slamming the President for using the teleprompter, a tool used by almost everyone including herself, when making public speeches/statements AND excusing her own use of speech cards and palm notes at the same time. It’s that she is so shameless and so hypocritical – it defies belief.
It’s the same with the R-Word thing – again, shamelessly hypocritical AND proud of it! It’s the pride in her blatant hypocrisy that makes Palin such a despicable human being. She knows she’s lying, she knows no one will call her out on it and she knows her supporters will find an excuse for it AND continue to give her money.
I read a post the other day on HuffPo and the blogger’s view was that it was a “trap” and the liberals walked right into it! By attacking her stupidity and inconsistencies, it just makes her supporters love her more because they feel like she is “like them”. So therefore – attacking her = attacking them. The blogger was a progressive.
It made me laugh because:
1. Sarah Palin can shoot wolf pups in their sleep from a helicopter on Fox News and her supporters would find an excuse for it. They are a lost cause.
2. The blogger said that “being made fun of for being stupid” is Sarah’s thing – she did it during the 08 campaign and look, everyone just got more supportive of her, to defend her from those elite libruls. To which I reply: You’re right, she does play stupid really well. Plus it worked REALLY well with the electorate. So well in fact that they voted NO on McCain/Palin in the WH.
3. She is more than welcome to continue to play stupid from now till 2012. It will just make it that much easier to prove, once again, she is unqualified to run this country.
When Palin was brought onto the national scene politically as a VP candidate, she had a certain moral obligation to do her part in directing the national debate in a manner which was civil and ultimately not destructive to the nation she might possibly be elected to lead. As we all know…..she dragged the political discourse down to a new low with her lies and covertly racist disrespect for her worthy opponent.
By engaging in this type of behavior as a national “leader,” she not only stoked the worst kinds of anti-social and racist behavior but she added legitimacy or permission for the crazies to bring their behavior out of the shadows and more into the public sphere.
Will the ‘bots hold her responsible? No…..because the paradox of their devotion to Sarah is that she’s “the only one who can save the country” BUT she’s not responsible for anything…..essentially, the paradox of the “powerful victim.” I believe she won’t ultimately succeed in a political leadership position in this country because most people can see the inherent bullsh*t in that paradox.
Lee323: THAT is why she is not qualified for National office. How can she lead all Americans when she has told most of us (most people live on the coasts) that we are not REAL Americans.
She will not live this down,,what else will she have to write on her hands to help her remember? To me writing on the hand has always been what a cheater does and is not folksy at all.IMO By doing this she admits she is a cheater and a liar because she can’t remember what she says from one moment to the next. LOL The guy on the TPM link is exactly why people who never owned or wanted to own a gun maybe will now to protect themselves from the likes of people who think like him..From the moment she stepped on stage and opened her mouth she brought out the worst in people and allowed them a place to say it.Maybe people like that man should rail against palin instead o0f the rest of the world. I have a twitter account and a person wanted to follow,When I read his profile it was listed as a conspiracy buff and I mean a real one,you know the kind who think 9/11 was a government thing ect boy did I block him in a hurry,he was just to far out for me.
I still for the life of me understand how or why people THINK SP is presidental material. She can’t talk on any political subject w/o having it written somewhere for her. Even the speach in TN was read from notes. Her face very seldom looked up. (Mayber her note told her to do that also.) It is sad sad sad.
I live in a small Midwestern village and believe me she does not speak for a lot of people in this village from the so called real American part of the country LOL
I really love the work these young guys do. I think this is a very fair look at the tea party goers. A lot of them are just plain, down home folks that have been fed terrible information during a rough time in America.
Having spent an hour conversing with my sons Swami (yogi) I feel in the right mind to say, Palin should be pitied (my general snark excluded). She is a mean, selfish, self involved person who gives nothing but her bad, bad, attitude. She shares nothing of value to anyone, not her children, her followers or the world. This is why, in the end, she will self destruct. As the yogi says, we are here to give and serve, not to take. Her heart is twisted and will surely bring her nothing but negative, as she offers nothing but negative. It’s the karmic boomerang effect.
It’s the exact reason Obama won. He offered hope, not hate. Hate never wins, not for long, in the end hope, love and peace conquer.
I just realized what the Snarky Parka speech tour is all about since her speeches have nothing but the old crappy talking points and no new ideas:
She is like an old rock band that tours forever, playing her “hits” like “professor-in-chief, Drill baby Drill and Common Sense Solutions, so the old crowd can relive the glory days of Campaign 08.
Teaparty link was worth the 11:23. Love the guy dressed in colonial red, white, and blue clothes, three corner hat and… is that an ENGLISH accent? Yes indeed it is. Is he a spy or a traitor?
We have a local tattoo parlor advertising its superiority and/or advantages [over any other tattoo parlor in the area, I'm presuming] with the written slogan: “Clean, sterile, experienced staff.”
No, I’ve not availed myself of their services. Probably won’t, either. beth.
We hear all the time about rising health care costs, but this really takes the cake.
Blue Cross has just announced that it’s immediately raising premiums charged to hundreds of thousands of individual customers by as much as 39% — even though their parent company’s profits soared to a record $4.7 billion last year.
Even worse, the insurer has so far refused to explain why they’re increasing their rates, and warned that they might do so again this year without warning.
The Obama administration is demanding answers from Anthem Blue Cross, and Congress has opened an investigation. But Blue Cross is only going to respond if this story becomes a major public-relations problem for them.
All of the attention to the Palin speech handily glossed over the fact that many of the attendees were effectively a resurgence of the KKK. So now we have a 2.0 version called the Tea Klux Klan.
The new and improved TKK trying to fly under the radar pretending to be patriots while marching right back to the dark ages. Yep, this is some force to be reckoned with, gonna influence modern America and win them sum elections. I think not.
Right. That Kevin Trudeau. So-called inspirational speaker who doubles as infomercial pitchman.
Yesterday, a federal judge in Chicago charged Trudeau with criminal contempt of court after Trudeau asked followers to email the judge to protest rulings in the civil case brought against him by the FTC. The followers’ complaints overwhelmed the judge’s email. The judge stated the effort was a deliberate attempt to harass the court.
Sound familiar?
Right… just like the custody case between Bristol and Levi. So. What are the appropriate powers in AK waiting for?
The Tea Party is a resurgance of the Ku Klux Klan. When Tancredo spoke about the civics and literacy tests on voting, that was one thing. When Winky McQuittyPants stated, ” I support this movement.,” says everything.
The only thing missing at this gathering was a burning cross. Disgraceful.
Poor Winky, couldn’t remember the basic platform of the right wingy’s that have been yapped about for three years now. Good thing she had her HillBilly Teleprompter to write her notes on.
Some things seen and heard at the teabaggers convention are very confusing to me.
For example,
American’s in colonial British costumes with “accents” and Palin saying
“This is bigger than a King or Queen of a movement…”
ERRRRR ….hold the phone……….What did she just say?
First, did she just refer to herself as a Queen? (you know she did).
Secondly, King? Queen? What country is she living in and what the Hel* is she talking about?
I seem to be missing the point of British costumes, accents, and talk of Queens. Are they saying that America should return to British control and Palin is the new Queen? Don’t get it.
To the surprise of no one, the Florida events are:
- Closed to the media!
- Involve high priced tickets!
$250 for one event, $150 for another in Daytona Beach and in March, she’ll be in Orlando! For the bargain price of $1,000 – you can be a part of a private reception with Lady Blah Blah AND get your very own souvenir photo! She’ll probably get paid $100k and YOU will have coughed up $1,000 for this priceless experience to be treasured for a lifetime, if that’s not a good deal then my name isn’t Elvis. Oh wait….
and of course,
- Speeches speeches speeches! What zingers will she grace us with? Which hand will she write on this time? Will she have shout outs to Mom on one and her speech on the other? You won’t know till you cough up the dough!
I’m fully prepared to read this in the news some time soon: “Palin slams Obama for being elitist, not an ordinary every day American and a mere celebrity before being whisked away in a limo to a $1,000 per person exclusive private reception closed to the media.”
My fave part of the article was when the GOP chairman says:
“We just want a big, giant, wildly pro-Palin, pro-Republican event,”
So she’s an anti-government Tea Party Patriot who would “die” for the cause AND pocket your speaking fee one weekend and the next weekend, she’s a Pro-Republican Cheerleader hob nobbing with wealthy establishment elites whilst pocketing the speaking fees! That’s our gal – always inconsistent, always greedy!
The Founding Fathers were elitists. They didn’t believe the rabble (see teabaggers) should be able to vote at all. Only wealthy educated land owners could vote and that is how they wanted it!!
So, Miss Snarky Parka, being an Elitist IS very AMERICAN!!
For the sake of setting the record straight on Palin’s use of “note cards” – if you watch the first few seconds of the video linked below, you’ll plainly see that Palin did not walk to the lectern with note cards. Instead, she had in her hand enough full-size sheets of paper that I assumed she had a full transcript of her speech – a belief she reinforced by the fact she often read directly from it during her speech.
As for notes on her hand for the Q/A session, I think txindygirl has touched on the central issue. I, too, have written things on my hand – phone numbers, license plate numbers, an airport elevation or radio frequency. Information that I call transitory – needed for a brief time and then either discarded or transferred to something else. What Palin revealed by writing her Top Three Priorities on her hand is that they, too, are transitory. Combine that with the Retard episode, in which she revealed that her heartfelt values behind her outrage at Emanuel are also transitory, and the picture of Palin is pretty much complete – her priorities are transitory because her values are transitory. A person with genuinely held values would have left Rush Limbaugh sputtering on a spit after such outrageous remarks. (WWAGHD – What would Alan Grayson have done?) Not so with Sarah – she rolled in his poop and jumped up smiling and claiming it doesn’t stink, declaring herself to be not offended – neither by the disrespect he showed for her precious Trig, nor the blatant disrespect he flaunted for her by throwing down the gauntlet with his offensive remarks. A coward dies a thousand deaths, but few seek to do so as willingly and publicly as Sarah Palin did last weekend. The only thing that remains non-transitory w/ Palin is doing the bidding of the Dominionists – this time declaring that it’s time for Divine Intervention in our government. Sorry, Sarah, but God’s track record in politics sucks even way worse than yours. That’s why our Founders assigned him a seat in the wings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7gVp3diPbI
I don’t think however that God is interested in politics. Unfortunately – Christians claim He does and now so does Sarah Palin. Luckily – she will continue to make a fool of herself day in and day out so hopefully that will deter people from wanting to get rid of separation of church and state.

I took physics and calculus with a woman whose dad was a professor at Stanford. He told her not to go there, so she went were we both did, one of the leading public schools in the world. Who knows if Gretchen Carlson cheated? I don’t, but if I remember correctly, they had a policy of being on the “honor system” or something like that. I don’t remember the exact term.

The Temptation to Cheat in Computer Science Classes at Stanford – 23 hours ago http://bayarea.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/11/heading-off-the-temptation-to-cheat-in-computer-science-classes-at-stanford/
By RYAN MAC Ryan Mac RJ Walsh is a junior majoring in computer science at Stanford University. Since his freshman year, he has been a teaching assistant for …
~~~~
When our classes diverged from the math and physics foundation, I had a class in my major where the professor who went on to become dean of the college said that if he caught anyone cheating on the tests, he would have us kicked out of the major, the university and would do his damnedest to prevent us from transferring into the major at another university. The 3-hour final exam had 150 points and the average was 30 points out of the 150. I had a nightmare that I got a D in that class, but luckily, I got a B. Without cheating. Had I pushed it, I would have finished that major in 3.5 years, but thought why? this is my chance to take some of the classes I wanted to but couldn’t because of what I had to take and in what order to meet the prerequisites. That last semester, I took 7 classes, but 2 of them were PE and 1 was doing research for the then-dean of the college who had written the book with one of my other professors that is still used around the world for that subject.
A long way of saying I’m not impressed with Gretchen Carlson.
OK, I found it–it’s called the Honor Code at Stanford.
“THE STANFORD UNIVERSITY HONOR CODE
1. The Honor Code is an undertaking of the students, individually and collectively: (i) that they will not give or receive aid in examinations; that they will not give or receive unpermitted aid in class work, in the preparation of reports, or in any other work that is to be used by the instructor as the basis of grading; (ii) that they will do their share and take an active part in seeing to it that others as well as themselves uphold the spirit and letter of the Honor Code.
2. The faculty on its part manifests its confidence in the honor of its students by refraining from proctoring examinations and from taking unusual and unreasonable precautions to prevent the forms of dishonesty mentioned above. The faculty will also avoid, as far as practicable, academic procedures that create temptations to violate the Honor Code.
3. While the faculty alone has the right and obligation to set academic requirements, the students and faculty will work together to establish optimal conditions for honorable academic work.
The underlying premise of the policy is that all academic work represents independent, original work of the author and the Honor Code aims to foster an academic environment that encourages adherence to these principles. As we are all bound to respect and uphold the Honor Code, it is important to define acceptable and unacceptable behaviors with regard to this course so as to eliminate any ambiguity.”
txindygirl — I live 20+ miles from downtown on the opposite side of the Tucson Mtns, next door to Saguaro Nat’l Park. I envy your snow – we haven’t had enough snow to play in here since Easter ’99. With mid-seventies in the forecast for this weekend I guess we’ll just have to settle for seeing it on distant mtns again this year.
@70, austintx That is interesting. I am struck by the inverse proportions vis a vie California and Alaska. The oil production from Alaska that goes to the US (and much of it does not), goes to two refineries: Cherry Point in WA state, and Long Beach California. Alaskans may be a prickly bunch, and we have some interesting mixes of opinion on our environment and resource extraction, but it still boils down to us being the suppliers and others being the consumers. We are still, after 200 yrs. of extraction, a colony. And I would say, California is complicit in that status quo.
CRFlats…Can you elaborate on the colony point? I just don’t understand what you are saying…California refineries are buying your Alaskan oil – is there a downside to that? Sorry, but I’m not an expert on the subject….
Desert Mudpup, i’m familiar with that area, although my 40-something memory isn’t as good as it used to be. i would trade snowy winters in texas for the chance to go back to tucson. you are a lucky mudpup! i’ll have to be happy with a few days every year or so.
I think that chart would say a whole lot more if they also compared consumption by population. Of course Alaska would consume less, they have less people in the state than the population of most small cities in the lower 48.
Here in PA, Philadelphia has a population of 1,447,000+ People, more than double the entire state of Alaska. Lancaster, a small city is Amish country has a population of more than a 1/2 million people, and that’s considered “country” on the east coast! Pennsylvania has a total population of more than 12 million people, more than 18x the population of Alaska.
That not only illustrate consumption by state but what little experience someone like Sarah Palin actually has. Even small towns in these parts have 50 or 60 thousand people. Managing the business of 600,000 is nothing!
austin, that’s what they say! you’re just lucky to live in the best parts of it! i like my little corner well enough, but that’s more to do with friends and neighborhood.
I had a friend year’s ago attending pre-marital counseling. He was telling some tale and the Priest asked: “Are you kidding me?” Friend replied: “Oh, Father, I’d never give you a blow job.” Friend’s fiance and the Priest were rolling with laughter; friend couldn’t figure out what was so funny – he hadn’t a clue…
The marriage, sadly, didn’t last but 3 years – he really was not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. beth.
Regulators Hired by Toyota Helped Halt Investigations
Feb. 12 (Bloomberg) — Former regulators hired by Toyota Motor Corp. helped end at least four U.S. investigations of unintended acceleration by company vehicles in the last decade, warding off possible recalls, court and government records show.
Christopher Tinto, vice president of regulatory affairs in Toyota’s Washington office, and Christopher Santucci, who works for Tinto, helped persuade the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to end probes including those of 2002-2003 Toyota Camrys and Solaras, court documents show. Both men joined Toyota directly from NHTSA, Tinto in 1994 and Santucci in 2003.
While all automakers have employees who handle NHTSA issues, Toyota may be alone among the major companies in employing former agency staffers to do so. Spokesmen for General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group LLC and Honda Motor Co. all say their companies have no ex-NHTSA people who deal with the agency on defects.
thanks for saying this. my people are quietly watching these gatherings and waiting…….and getting mentally ready for what’s coming.
Hmm, there seems to be a bit of confusion re: the 50 states/snow. My local ABC stations sez “yes”, but ABC national/Diane Sawyer said only 49 do (not Hawaii), as does this article…
Is anyone really surprised at this, but it’s still scary. I bet there is more of this to come. Palin stokes the fires of fear and hate by using phrases like, “we have to start a revolution”, and I would die for the cause”. Actually, I think she stole this from her cult followers. I read, many months ago, some posts on her fan sites where they were pleading with her to “save us”, “start a revolution”, and several said they were ready to die for the cause ( I swear).
Watching the “pre-game” filler stuff now…why NBC scheduled 4.5 hrs airtime for a ceremony that only starts about an hour into that timeframe is beyond me…
I went to my bookstore after work today and was just wandering around the aisles today looking for any good books to read. Then I got curious and decided I would see how many of copies of Going Rogue they had. I only saw three copies that were on a bottom shelf of a bookcase towards the back of the store. But I did find at least 10 copies of Going Rouge there. I thought that was pretty good considering I live in a state where a tree stump could could win an election if it had an R next to it. I’m also happy that my husband, a republican, thinks Sarah Palin is an idiot. Too bad he couldn’t get his parents to realize that. Of course my father in law thinks Letterman should be cancelled, even though he is never stays up past 9 pm to actually watch the show. He probably said that because poor Sarah got picked on by Letterman. That’s what happens when you watch FAUX news and listen to Limpbaugh.
Torch? No info yet. You’ll probably have to wait until the final handoff comes.
Agreed, also too you betcha, about the new WATW. A number of them can’t sing! They a) shout, b) screetch or c) fail to realize that the blending of voices they’re involved with means “together as one”.
COme to think it it, many of them remind me of S’error! My bad….NOT!
I had to turn off the WATW segment. It felt so fake and wrong and forced. I really wish that didn’t happen.
The Olympic athletes are coming in now though and what a beautiful sight. ( Even though I sort of wish the NBC anchors would shush )
Awww! The smiling/waving/anticipation, etc . as the athletes and flag bearers come in. So MUCH emotion everwhere! I’ve patted their heads and kissed them all on the cheek and wished them the best experience ever.
Spotted Brian on the knitted caps of the US athletes at the opening ceremony tonight.
He sure gets around. Hope he brings them luck!
I thought the tea baggers were just the KKK with a new name. Since the Opryland Hotel is only a mile or so down the road from me, I called the convention office several times in the month before the convention to let them know that I was very disappointed that they were bringing this hate group to our community. The first time I called, I filled them in on some of the stuff that Michelle Bachman has said in about revolution and the blood of patriots, etc. I got the impression that they would host any paying customer. The VP of convention sales that I spoke refused to consider that these people are offensive. I wondered if he too was a teabagger. I decided it was just about the money.
I did join a rally for Greg Rabidoux (a democrat running for Marsha Blackburn’s seat) outside the hotel on the Saturday of the convention. We got some media coverage from our local networks.
AKM…..??
Shannyn was discussing the fact that there were 9 people from Alaska that
were participating in the Winter Olympics.
Will you be putting up a post with some little bios of who these 9 Alaskans are
or which events they will be participating in. The networks would obviously only say were representing the USA.
Curious as to which events they are in to sort of look for them and follow them.
I was blown away by the First Nation peoples…I hate to say it, but I don’t think the US would ever showcase and honor our Native Americans to the world in such an open and embracing manner. Heck, we don’t even acknowlege them to ‘us’! More’s the pity.
As for the torch lighting: it reminded me of countless weddings, plays, concerts I’ve been to…so what if there’s a glitch? As long as the end result is what it’s supposed to be, no harm, no foul. The Games were opened, the flame was lit, and we’re all set to watch the next 16 days of young folks competing their little hearts out.
Yea! Through them, our world has come together once again! (Oh, how I love to watch them all…they make their sport look so easy – they make me feel as if I could be as graceful, as strong, as agile, as beautiful, as athletic, as dedicated, as coordinated, as talented as they. That, I think, is what draws me to them; their hopes to be the best they can be in their efforts, become mine…and mine, theirs.)
To me, the ceremony was relaxed, non-frenetic; in the BEST sense of the word, “folksy.” And also, too, I thought the ads were 100% better/more entertaining than the ones that CBS ran during the Super Bowl. beth.
[Although WATW was not so much wonderful, I'm thinking. Maybe I'm too old to recognize most of the artists? Maybe I'd never much liked the lyrics of the song, anyway? Who knows. b.]
Heard today on CNN , that Bill Maher will be a guest on the Larry King show , tues nite.
Can’t wait to hear what he has to say about SP!!!! I am sure I will be laughing very hard.
As for the gal in Texas that is excited about snow —-I will be happy to send a few feet of Iowa snow down there. WHEEEEE—–and we are going to get it again this weekend.
Just wanted to say hey and YEah for ‘Brian the Moose’ making a fashion statement on the TEAM USA Hats during the opening ceremony… snicker made me laugh! Ohhh wait that was planned right? (!:
Um…..yeah! That was TOTALLY planned. I didn’t say anything because I just wanted to surprise you. AKM
A sharp uptick in what the Central Intelligence Agency has termed “indecipherable chatter” has been traced to former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, an agency spokesperson confirmed today.
According to the spokesperson, the CIA first noted a dramatic increase in the unintelligible utterances around the time of the launch of Gov. Palin’s book, Going Rogue.
“We had a difficult time deciphering them because they did not seem to follow the discernible pattern of an organized language or code,” the spokesperson said.
In an appearance on Fox News today, Gov. Palin confirmed that the impenetrable chatter was hers and explained that she spoke the way she did “to confuse foreigners to our soil who would attempt to harm us by understanding us.”
“Being that Americans have difficulties understanding what I’m saying, just now imagine, also too, how confusing I must be to foreign ears like Putin,” she said.
When asked what her favorite language was, Gov. Palin responded, “All of ‘em.”
Oh, the “comments” clicky was hidden inside the photograph. Very clever!
Loved the maddow piece. Nothing so demonstrates how self-referenced these folks are. I wonder what Limbaugh’s explanation will be for 50 degree weather in Vancouver. “Global warming, screwed up weather” ought to be the bumper sticker.
Here in near Burlington Vermont we haven’t been colder than -5 this year. There’s still time of course, but if we don’t get colder weather that will be the warmest low winter temperature of my long life, I am sure. Many growing zone maps still have us at zone 4, average low temperature -30, and that was certainly accurate growing up. Some have finally changed us to zone 5, average low temperature -20. I don’t think we’ve hit that for 3 years.
wow !! I play drums, so palm writing won’t work for me….. not that talented !
Sorry folks. I am so fed up with discussion about this woman and you know who I mean. What else is going on in the state of Alaska?
Paula thanks for the laugh. it is often that rank hypocrisy that grabs me the hardest about rightwingers.
@ #3 -
Nah, Paula, those aren’t photos of Tundra Tetard with a teleprompter…you’ve got it all confused. What they *are* pictures of, are TT speechifying with a blank piece of plastic in her near vicinity to :
1) remind TT of the birth cert she’s *not* seen for POTUS
2) keep her reflective radiance from blinding the Faux News cameraperson
3) act as a harbinger of her youngest daughter’s progress report from school (so she won’t be surprised when it shows up in the TT snail-mail box)
4) act as a screen to keep the bright lights from making her left palm sweat off her invaluable talking-points
5) keep close to her a complete listing of all the plans *she* has for progressing Alasssska (and the lower 48)
6) reiterate -in no uncertain terms- the sum total of her intellectual curiosity and, as a result, her intellect
I’m sure there are other PalinWorld-totally acceptable and perfectly logical ‘explanations’ for why the blank piece of plastic is shown in so many pictures of her. Any other mudpups want to add to the list? beth.
@6 Paula. Hilarious. Thanks for sharing the teleprompter link. That’s exactly what I have been looking for….a visual guide to her hypocricy.
I knew there was a photo of her during her quittin speech using a telepromter, but I couldn’t find it. I love the photo that shows her words are right on the telepromter…..John and I will…bla, bla, bla….
I’m sure her fans will claim that she didn’t use the teleprompter…even through it was there for her. Bull.
The other thing this proves is that Sarah is still reading the blogs. The whole teleprompter thingie has only been discussed on blogs where her fans started claiming that, the grifter didn’t use one.
Never believe your own hype.
Good morning, everyone. Just commented on the Rouge Star post, but it applies here, also, too:
Reading Mudflats = Educational Opportunities + Calls to Action
Thank you, AKM and Mr. Fineberg.
I appreciate this home schooling more than I can express!
scajun @ 27 [on Rogue Star Update suggested we each send Levi a dollar bill]
I’m in for a dollar…like the old campy Batman show, I see granny blah blah’s head “explode wondering how much (Levi) got” in cartoonish slo-mo with technicolor captions. POW! BLAM! KABLOOIE!
…a slightly guilty pleasure, because as much as I detest [$arah], she DID bring me to the Mudflats and help us elect President Obama, a smart and hard-working leader who DOESN’T QUIT!
so…Thanks, $arah! That HOPE and CHANGE is what I voted for and work for Every Day. You are merely Shake’n’Bake, but I’ll allow you to say that tag line. Write it on your hand so you remember…”and I helped!”
Yes. You. Did.
*thar she blows!*
Quyana! Thank you! Merci! Gracias!
thatcrowwoman: Yes, let’s make today a day of thanks to Cheater Barbie/Snarky Parka for helping to elect Barak Obama!!
I got a woman on the Supreme Court and it looks like gays are getting full rights in the military, so I am very happy with my hopey-changy thing!
@ austintx: Creepy!
Tea Party in danger!
What I am witnessing is an attempted defilement of the concept of what the Tea Party’s purposes are and where we are going. The bastardization of our message I find bilious and disingenuous on its face.
Tea Party members are being eyed as just another piece of voting meat. Tea Party members are targeted for filling the rank and file of minion laden political operations, most of which are lead (sic) by failed Republican hacks.
Big Pete #19 links to a story about the leader of teaparty dot org, Dale Robertson, who wrote a scathing comment at his website about Republicans trying to take over the Tea Party.
There is a picture of Mr. Robertson that we have all seen included with this story – the one where he has a sign with the N word on it.
Well get this, the picture has now been photoshopped to change the sign! Now it says “I work 4 U”. If you go to his website, there is a third photoshopped version, again taking off the N word.
So this photoshopping liar is complaining that the Republicans are misrepresenting the views of the tea partiers? Priceless!
@ txindygirl: Gretchen Carlson of Fox & Friends is from Minnesota, the state that gave us Michele Bachmann.
In my own defense I’m not a Minnesotan, I just got stuck here. (My sis-in-law says the same thing about Texas.)
She’s got the first one backwards, and dropped the “1″. Otherwise, spot on.
Re: Snowpocalypse = No Global Warming by Sean Hannity et al – FAIL, Sean. Again. It makes me laugh to see his odious face twist itself into snarky satisfaction at getting one up on the liberals when in fact, as usual, he’s made an ass of himself.
Palin’s crazy “base” making headlines……Oh, man!….she bought and paid for these kind of people with her gun-wavey, self-righteousey braggin’ about her superlative credentials as a leader in the “Guns ‘N God” battalion from hell:
“The Massachusetts man charged this week for stockpiling weapons after saying he feared an imminent “Armageddon” appears to have been active in the Tea Party movement, and saw Sarah Palin, who he said is on a “righteous ‘Mission from God,’” as the only figure capable of averting the destruction of society. (snip)
Girard’s wife said her husband had recently told her: “Don’t talk to people, shoot them instead,” and “it’s fine to shoot people in the head because traitors deserve it.”
Lee323, we knew it was only a matter of time. Of course, the Palinbots will deny it was their Dear Sarah.
Here’s the thing: Everyone scribbles notes on their hands at some point for whatever reason. That’s not the thing that is ridiculous. What is ridiculous is Sarah Palin slamming the President for using the teleprompter, a tool used by almost everyone including herself, when making public speeches/statements AND excusing her own use of speech cards and palm notes at the same time. It’s that she is so shameless and so hypocritical – it defies belief.
It’s the same with the R-Word thing – again, shamelessly hypocritical AND proud of it! It’s the pride in her blatant hypocrisy that makes Palin such a despicable human being. She knows she’s lying, she knows no one will call her out on it and she knows her supporters will find an excuse for it AND continue to give her money.
aussiegal77, the even more shameful thing is that she needed to remind herself of her core principles!
and worse!!! she acually had to use her crib notes!!!!
txindygirl – hahahahha I know!! What a buffoon.
I read a post the other day on HuffPo and the blogger’s view was that it was a “trap” and the liberals walked right into it! By attacking her stupidity and inconsistencies, it just makes her supporters love her more because they feel like she is “like them”. So therefore – attacking her = attacking them. The blogger was a progressive.
It made me laugh because:
1. Sarah Palin can shoot wolf pups in their sleep from a helicopter on Fox News and her supporters would find an excuse for it. They are a lost cause.
2. The blogger said that “being made fun of for being stupid” is Sarah’s thing – she did it during the 08 campaign and look, everyone just got more supportive of her, to defend her from those elite libruls. To which I reply: You’re right, she does play stupid really well. Plus it worked REALLY well with the electorate. So well in fact that they voted NO on McCain/Palin in the WH.
3. She is more than welcome to continue to play stupid from now till 2012. It will just make it that much easier to prove, once again, she is unqualified to run this country.
P.S. txindygirl – Palin should write on her other hand “Remember to GET some principles. Also too, look up “principles” in dictionary…..or ask Todd.”
@ # 36 txindygirl
When Palin was brought onto the national scene politically as a VP candidate, she had a certain moral obligation to do her part in directing the national debate in a manner which was civil and ultimately not destructive to the nation she might possibly be elected to lead. As we all know…..she dragged the political discourse down to a new low with her lies and covertly racist disrespect for her worthy opponent.
By engaging in this type of behavior as a national “leader,” she not only stoked the worst kinds of anti-social and racist behavior but she added legitimacy or permission for the crazies to bring their behavior out of the shadows and more into the public sphere.
Will the ‘bots hold her responsible? No…..because the paradox of their devotion to Sarah is that she’s “the only one who can save the country” BUT she’s not responsible for anything…..essentially, the paradox of the “powerful victim.” I believe she won’t ultimately succeed in a political leadership position in this country because most people can see the inherent bullsh*t in that paradox.
Lee323 – love it, well said, absolutely agree.
Lee323: THAT is why she is not qualified for National office. How can she lead all Americans when she has told most of us (most people live on the coasts) that we are not REAL Americans.
austintx @ 12
I still have the giggles!
Good Morning!
She will not live this down,,what else will she have to write on her hands to help her remember? To me writing on the hand has always been what a cheater does and is not folksy at all.IMO By doing this she admits she is a cheater and a liar because she can’t remember what she says from one moment to the next. LOL The guy on the TPM link is exactly why people who never owned or wanted to own a gun maybe will now to protect themselves from the likes of people who think like him..From the moment she stepped on stage and opened her mouth she brought out the worst in people and allowed them a place to say it.Maybe people like that man should rail against palin instead o0f the rest of the world. I have a twitter account and a person wanted to follow,When I read his profile it was listed as a conspiracy buff and I mean a real one,you know the kind who think 9/11 was a government thing ect boy did I block him in a hurry,he was just to far out for me.
I still for the life of me understand how or why people THINK SP is presidental material. She can’t talk on any political subject w/o having it written somewhere for her. Even the speach in TN was read from notes. Her face very seldom looked up. (Mayber her note told her to do that also.) It is sad sad sad.
I live in a small Midwestern village and believe me she does not speak for a lot of people in this village from the so called real American part of the country LOL
TEA PARTY CONVENTION – Sarah Palin, Orly Taitz, Interviews with Participants
http://bit.ly/9poKfI
I really love the work these young guys do. I think this is a very fair look at the tea party goers. A lot of them are just plain, down home folks that have been fed terrible information during a rough time in America.
Having spent an hour conversing with my sons Swami (yogi) I feel in the right mind to say, Palin should be pitied (my general snark excluded). She is a mean, selfish, self involved person who gives nothing but her bad, bad, attitude. She shares nothing of value to anyone, not her children, her followers or the world. This is why, in the end, she will self destruct. As the yogi says, we are here to give and serve, not to take. Her heart is twisted and will surely bring her nothing but negative, as she offers nothing but negative. It’s the karmic boomerang effect.
It’s the exact reason Obama won. He offered hope, not hate. Hate never wins, not for long, in the end hope, love and peace conquer.
To me “folksy” is the guy you buy a souvenir corn cob pipe from, not some one you elect POTUS.
I just realized what the Snarky Parka speech tour is all about since her speeches have nothing but the old crappy talking points and no new ideas:
She is like an old rock band that tours forever, playing her “hits” like “professor-in-chief, Drill baby Drill and Common Sense Solutions, so the old crowd can relive the glory days of Campaign 08.
Teaparty link was worth the 11:23. Love the guy dressed in colonial red, white, and blue clothes, three corner hat and… is that an ENGLISH accent? Yes indeed it is. Is he a spy or a traitor?
And now, for something completely different…
We have a local tattoo parlor advertising its superiority and/or advantages [over any other tattoo parlor in the area, I'm presuming] with the written slogan: “Clean, sterile, experienced staff.”
No, I’ve not availed myself of their services. Probably won’t, either. beth.
Subject: Blue Cross
Hi,
We hear all the time about rising health care costs, but this really takes the cake.
Blue Cross has just announced that it’s immediately raising premiums charged to hundreds of thousands of individual customers by as much as 39% — even though their parent company’s profits soared to a record $4.7 billion last year.
Even worse, the insurer has so far refused to explain why they’re increasing their rates, and warned that they might do so again this year without warning.
The Obama administration is demanding answers from Anthem Blue Cross, and Congress has opened an investigation. But Blue Cross is only going to respond if this story becomes a major public-relations problem for them.
So it’s time to turn up the heat. I just signed a petition calling for an explanation from Blue Cross — will you join me? http://pol.moveon.org/bluecross/?r_by=18911-8064101-zT2iE_x&rc=comment_paste
Thanks!
All of the attention to the Palin speech handily glossed over the fact that many of the attendees were effectively a resurgence of the KKK. So now we have a 2.0 version called the Tea Klux Klan.
The new and improved TKK trying to fly under the radar pretending to be patriots while marching right back to the dark ages. Yep, this is some force to be reckoned with, gonna influence modern America and win them sum elections. I think not.
Anyone ever hear of Kevin Trudeau?
Right. That Kevin Trudeau. So-called inspirational speaker who doubles as infomercial pitchman.
Yesterday, a federal judge in Chicago charged Trudeau with criminal contempt of court after Trudeau asked followers to email the judge to protest rulings in the civil case brought against him by the FTC. The followers’ complaints overwhelmed the judge’s email. The judge stated the effort was a deliberate attempt to harass the court.
Sound familiar?
Right… just like the custody case between Bristol and Levi. So. What are the appropriate powers in AK waiting for?
The Tea Party is a resurgance of the Ku Klux Klan. When Tancredo spoke about the civics and literacy tests on voting, that was one thing. When Winky McQuittyPants stated, ” I support this movement.,” says everything.
The only thing missing at this gathering was a burning cross. Disgraceful.
Poor Winky, couldn’t remember the basic platform of the right wingy’s that have been yapped about for three years now. Good thing she had her HillBilly Teleprompter to write her notes on.
Interesting take on Palin and the Mainstream Media
http://www.twincities.com/politics/ci_14389685?nclick_check=1
Some things seen and heard at the teabaggers convention are very confusing to me.
For example,
American’s in colonial British costumes with “accents” and Palin saying
“This is bigger than a King or Queen of a movement…”
ERRRRR ….hold the phone……….What did she just say?
First, did she just refer to herself as a Queen? (you know she did).
Secondly, King? Queen? What country is she living in and what the Hel* is she talking about?
I seem to be missing the point of British costumes, accents, and talk of Queens. Are they saying that America should return to British control and Palin is the new Queen? Don’t get it.
Palin Does Florida! (sorry….couldn’t resist…)
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/os-sarah-palin-bans-media-20100211,0,4548485.story
To the surprise of no one, the Florida events are:
- Closed to the media!
- Involve high priced tickets!
$250 for one event, $150 for another in Daytona Beach and in March, she’ll be in Orlando! For the bargain price of $1,000 – you can be a part of a private reception with Lady Blah Blah AND get your very own souvenir photo! She’ll probably get paid $100k and YOU will have coughed up $1,000 for this priceless experience to be treasured for a lifetime, if that’s not a good deal then my name isn’t Elvis. Oh wait….
and of course,
- Speeches speeches speeches! What zingers will she grace us with? Which hand will she write on this time? Will she have shout outs to Mom on one and her speech on the other? You won’t know till you cough up the dough!
I’m fully prepared to read this in the news some time soon: “Palin slams Obama for being elitist, not an ordinary every day American and a mere celebrity before being whisked away in a limo to a $1,000 per person exclusive private reception closed to the media.”
My fave part of the article was when the GOP chairman says:
“We just want a big, giant, wildly pro-Palin, pro-Republican event,”
So she’s an anti-government Tea Party Patriot who would “die” for the cause AND pocket your speaking fee one weekend and the next weekend, she’s a Pro-Republican Cheerleader hob nobbing with wealthy establishment elites whilst pocketing the speaking fees! That’s our gal – always inconsistent, always greedy!
The Founding Fathers were elitists. They didn’t believe the rabble (see teabaggers) should be able to vote at all. Only wealthy educated land owners could vote and that is how they wanted it!!
So, Miss Snarky Parka, being an Elitist IS very AMERICAN!!
For the sake of setting the record straight on Palin’s use of “note cards” – if you watch the first few seconds of the video linked below, you’ll plainly see that Palin did not walk to the lectern with note cards. Instead, she had in her hand enough full-size sheets of paper that I assumed she had a full transcript of her speech – a belief she reinforced by the fact she often read directly from it during her speech.
As for notes on her hand for the Q/A session, I think txindygirl has touched on the central issue. I, too, have written things on my hand – phone numbers, license plate numbers, an airport elevation or radio frequency. Information that I call transitory – needed for a brief time and then either discarded or transferred to something else. What Palin revealed by writing her Top Three Priorities on her hand is that they, too, are transitory. Combine that with the Retard episode, in which she revealed that her heartfelt values behind her outrage at Emanuel are also transitory, and the picture of Palin is pretty much complete – her priorities are transitory because her values are transitory. A person with genuinely held values would have left Rush Limbaugh sputtering on a spit after such outrageous remarks. (WWAGHD – What would Alan Grayson have done?) Not so with Sarah – she rolled in his poop and jumped up smiling and claiming it doesn’t stink, declaring herself to be not offended – neither by the disrespect he showed for her precious Trig, nor the blatant disrespect he flaunted for her by throwing down the gauntlet with his offensive remarks. A coward dies a thousand deaths, but few seek to do so as willingly and publicly as Sarah Palin did last weekend. The only thing that remains non-transitory w/ Palin is doing the bidding of the Dominionists – this time declaring that it’s time for Divine Intervention in our government. Sorry, Sarah, but God’s track record in politics sucks even way worse than yours. That’s why our Founders assigned him a seat in the wings.
I don’t think however that God is interested in politics. Unfortunately – Christians claim He does and now so does Sarah Palin. Luckily – she will continue to make a fool of herself day in and day out so hopefully that will deter people from wanting to get rid of separation of church and state.
her priorities are transitory because her values are transitory
ain’t that the truth, Desert Mudpup!!!
aren’t you from my favorite place, Tucson?
we have tons of snow today, very unusual for north texas. i think i saw on the news this morning that we had just over 12 ft. jinkees!
my kiddo and i just spent the last hour and a half playing in the fields around our house. great fun! i wish we had winters like this all the time!
i mean 12 INCHES!!!
there i go, exaggerating like a palin!
I took physics and calculus with a woman whose dad was a professor at Stanford. He told her not to go there, so she went were we both did, one of the leading public schools in the world. Who knows if Gretchen Carlson cheated? I don’t, but if I remember correctly, they had a policy of being on the “honor system” or something like that. I don’t remember the exact term.
From a quick googling:
The Temptation to Cheat in Computer Science Classes at Stanford – 23 hours ago
By RYAN MAC Ryan Mac RJ Walsh is a junior majoring in computer science at Stanford University. Since his freshman year, he has been a teaching assistant for …
~~~~
When our classes diverged from the math and physics foundation, I had a class in my major where the professor who went on to become dean of the college said that if he caught anyone cheating on the tests, he would have us kicked out of the major, the university and would do his damnedest to prevent us from transferring into the major at another university. The 3-hour final exam had 150 points and the average was 30 points out of the 150. I had a nightmare that I got a D in that class, but luckily, I got a B. Without cheating. Had I pushed it, I would have finished that major in 3.5 years, but thought why? this is my chance to take some of the classes I wanted to but couldn’t because of what I had to take and in what order to meet the prerequisites. That last semester, I took 7 classes, but 2 of them were PE and 1 was doing research for the then-dean of the college who had written the book with one of my other professors that is still used around the world for that subject.
A long way of saying I’m not impressed with Gretchen Carlson.

OK, I found it–it’s called the Honor Code at Stanford.
“THE STANFORD UNIVERSITY HONOR CODE
1. The Honor Code is an undertaking of the students, individually and collectively: (i) that they will not give or receive aid in examinations; that they will not give or receive unpermitted aid in class work, in the preparation of reports, or in any other work that is to be used by the instructor as the basis of grading; (ii) that they will do their share and take an active part in seeing to it that others as well as themselves uphold the spirit and letter of the Honor Code.
2. The faculty on its part manifests its confidence in the honor of its students by refraining from proctoring examinations and from taking unusual and unreasonable precautions to prevent the forms of dishonesty mentioned above. The faculty will also avoid, as far as practicable, academic procedures that create temptations to violate the Honor Code.
3. While the faculty alone has the right and obligation to set academic requirements, the students and faculty will work together to establish optimal conditions for honorable academic work.
The underlying premise of the policy is that all academic work represents independent, original work of the author and the Honor Code aims to foster an academic environment that encourages adherence to these principles. As we are all bound to respect and uphold the Honor Code, it is important to define acceptable and unacceptable behaviors with regard to this course so as to eliminate any ambiguity.”
Here is an interesting chart on oil consumption and production on a state by state basis.
http://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/images/user5/imageroot/madoff/US%20Oil%20Production.jpg
txindygirl — I live 20+ miles from downtown on the opposite side of the Tucson Mtns, next door to Saguaro Nat’l Park. I envy your snow – we haven’t had enough snow to play in here since Easter ’99. With mid-seventies in the forecast for this weekend
I guess we’ll just have to settle for seeing it on distant mtns again this year.
@70, austintx That is interesting. I am struck by the inverse proportions vis a vie California and Alaska. The oil production from Alaska that goes to the US (and much of it does not), goes to two refineries: Cherry Point in WA state, and Long Beach California. Alaskans may be a prickly bunch, and we have some interesting mixes of opinion on our environment and resource extraction, but it still boils down to us being the suppliers and others being the consumers. We are still, after 200 yrs. of extraction, a colony. And I would say, California is complicit in that status quo.
CRFlats…Can you elaborate on the colony point? I just don’t understand what you are saying…California refineries are buying your Alaskan oil – is there a downside to that? Sorry, but I’m not an expert on the subject….
Desert Mudpup, i’m familiar with that area, although my 40-something memory isn’t as good as it used to be. i would trade snowy winters in texas for the chance to go back to tucson. you are a lucky mudpup! i’ll have to be happy with a few days every year or so.
I think that chart would say a whole lot more if they also compared consumption by population. Of course Alaska would consume less, they have less people in the state than the population of most small cities in the lower 48.
Here in PA, Philadelphia has a population of 1,447,000+ People, more than double the entire state of Alaska. Lancaster, a small city is Amish country has a population of more than a 1/2 million people, and that’s considered “country” on the east coast! Pennsylvania has a total population of more than 12 million people, more than 18x the population of Alaska.
That not only illustrate consumption by state but what little experience someone like Sarah Palin actually has. Even small towns in these parts have 50 or 60 thousand people. Managing the business of 600,000 is nothing!
Desert Mudpup, loved your post.
Terrible news – Vancouver 2010: Luger dies in training crash. Track has been criticized for high speed http://nyti.ms/cUIj1H
Paula, you’re figuring population all wrong. Here in Alaska we don’t count people. We count caribou. Got you all beat.
austin, that’s what they say! you’re just lucky to live in the best parts of it! i like my little corner well enough, but that’s more to do with friends and neighborhood.
Amy, I signed the Blue Cross petition. Thank you.
I remember the Prez mentioning he’d been told a major health insurer in CA was planning to do this.

Sounds like yet another snow job, texas sized.
@83 ~ Speaking of snow jobs…
I had a friend year’s ago attending pre-marital counseling. He was telling some tale and the Priest asked: “Are you kidding me?” Friend replied: “Oh, Father, I’d never give you a blow job.” Friend’s fiance and the Priest were rolling with laughter; friend couldn’t figure out what was so funny – he hadn’t a clue…
The marriage, sadly, didn’t last but 3 years – he really was not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. beth.

Sorry if this is already posted, but if you are a Toyota driver, this will probably make you wonder a bit about the company.

Regulators Hired by Toyota Helped Halt Investigations
Feb. 12 (Bloomberg) — Former regulators hired by Toyota Motor Corp. helped end at least four U.S. investigations of unintended acceleration by company vehicles in the last decade, warding off possible recalls, court and government records show.
Christopher Tinto, vice president of regulatory affairs in Toyota’s Washington office, and Christopher Santucci, who works for Tinto, helped persuade the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to end probes including those of 2002-2003 Toyota Camrys and Solaras, court documents show. Both men joined Toyota directly from NHTSA, Tinto in 1994 and Santucci in 2003.
While all automakers have employees who handle NHTSA issues, Toyota may be alone among the major companies in employing former agency staffers to do so. Spokesmen for General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group LLC and Honda Motor Co. all say their companies have no ex-NHTSA people who deal with the agency on defects.

PS: I have 3″ of snow on the ground, at least 1.5″ more to come before it ends around 11pm tonight ET.
For the first time ever….
ALL 50 STATES HAVE SNOW ON THE GROUND! Yep…even Hawaii!
Yep, it’s official…since FL panhandle got some snow out of this system, it’s da truth.

I think not.

thanks for saying this. my people are quietly watching these gatherings and waiting…….and getting mentally ready for what’s coming.
Hmm, there seems to be a bit of confusion re: the 50 states/snow. My local ABC stations sez “yes”, but ABC national/Diane Sawyer said only 49 do (not Hawaii), as does this article…
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100212/ap_on_re_us/us_united_states_of_snow
Bummer…
Is anyone really surprised at this, but it’s still scary. I bet there is more of this to come. Palin stokes the fires of fear and hate by using phrases like, “we have to start a revolution”, and I would die for the cause”. Actually, I think she stole this from her cult followers. I read, many months ago, some posts on her fan sites where they were pleading with her to “save us”, “start a revolution”, and several said they were ready to die for the cause ( I swear).

Bubbles, I’m right there with you.
Anyone messes with you, call me. I’ll take care of ‘em, but good. They probably ain’t never seen an irate queer
INteresting… 49 states in the US with snow… Canada? Not so much. Winter Olympics, anyone?
Ripley,
Watching the “pre-game” filler stuff now…why NBC scheduled 4.5 hrs airtime for a ceremony that only starts about an hour into that timeframe is beyond me…
I went to my bookstore after work today and was just wandering around the aisles today looking for any good books to read. Then I got curious and decided I would see how many of copies of Going Rogue they had. I only saw three copies that were on a bottom shelf of a bookcase towards the back of the store. But I did find at least 10 copies of Going Rouge there. I thought that was pretty good considering I live in a state where a tree stump could could win an election if it had an R next to it. I’m also happy that my husband, a republican, thinks Sarah Palin is an idiot. Too bad he couldn’t get his parents to realize that. Of course my father in law thinks Letterman should be cancelled, even though he is never stays up past 9 pm to actually watch the show. He probably said that because poor Sarah got picked on by Letterman. That’s what happens when you watch FAUX news and listen to Limpbaugh.
Final run of the torch ? Wayne Gretzky is the buzz ? Has it been officially announced yet ?
Should I watch it from the desk or from the warm comfy bed?? I don’t know !
PepperzMom (GA): Same as the day long super bowl lead in. It’s all about ratings.
I like some of the back stories, but they begin to sound all the same after a while.
It’s something to have on in the background.
TBINO~love it!!!!KO cut her down to size….LMFAO…Best on all day….

Torch? No info yet. You’ll probably have to wait until the final handoff comes.
Agreed, also too you betcha, about the new WATW. A number of them can’t sing! They a) shout, b) screetch or c) fail to realize that the blending of voices they’re involved with means “together as one”.
COme to think it it, many of them remind me of S’error! My bad….NOT!
Did I see Jeff Bridges in the WATW group?
I had to turn off the WATW segment. It felt so fake and wrong and forced. I really wish that didn’t happen.
The Olympic athletes are coming in now though and what a beautiful sight. ( Even though I sort of wish the NBC anchors would shush )
Awww! The smiling/waving/anticipation, etc . as the athletes and flag bearers come in. So MUCH emotion everwhere! I’ve patted their heads and kissed them all on the cheek and wished them the best experience ever.
Health care/job march in many cities this Wednesday.

If I ever need to move out of my country, I’m going to Canada. They seem nice up there.
I like how they honored their native populations in the opening ceremony. No, I love it.
Go to either Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, Ripley… good, kind and considerate people up that way.

The lower altitude venues have some snow issues, but it appears that the major ski area up top has up to 32 feet of base. 32 feet!
I think Hawaii has snow up near the volcano – it’s located at 13,000+ feet.
Spotted Brian on the knitted caps of the US athletes at the opening ceremony tonight.
He sure gets around. Hope he brings them luck!
I thought the tea baggers were just the KKK with a new name. Since the Opryland Hotel is only a mile or so down the road from me, I called the convention office several times in the month before the convention to let them know that I was very disappointed that they were bringing this hate group to our community. The first time I called, I filled them in on some of the stuff that Michelle Bachman has said in about revolution and the blood of patriots, etc. I got the impression that they would host any paying customer. The VP of convention sales that I spoke refused to consider that these people are offensive. I wondered if he too was a teabagger. I decided it was just about the money.
I did join a rally for Greg Rabidoux (a democrat running for Marsha Blackburn’s seat) outside the hotel on the Saturday of the convention. We got some media coverage from our local networks.
Ooops on the 1st Flame lighting…”technical” difficulty encountered. Gretzky’s heading out to do the exterior flame lighting.
Otherwise, outside of the First Nations segments – I was somewhat bored! I remember the Calgary ’88 opening, and it was loud and fun. This was…blah.
AKM…..??
Shannyn was discussing the fact that there were 9 people from Alaska that
were participating in the Winter Olympics.
Will you be putting up a post with some little bios of who these 9 Alaskans are
or which events they will be participating in. The networks would obviously only say were representing the USA.
Curious as to which events they are in to sort of look for them and follow them.
I was blown away by the First Nation peoples…I hate to say it, but I don’t think the US would ever showcase and honor our Native Americans to the world in such an open and embracing manner. Heck, we don’t even acknowlege them to ‘us’! More’s the pity.
As for the torch lighting: it reminded me of countless weddings, plays, concerts I’ve been to…so what if there’s a glitch? As long as the end result is what it’s supposed to be, no harm, no foul. The Games were opened, the flame was lit, and we’re all set to watch the next 16 days of young folks competing their little hearts out.
Yea! Through them, our world has come together once again! (Oh, how I love to watch them all…they make their sport look so easy – they make me feel as if I could be as graceful, as strong, as agile, as beautiful, as athletic, as dedicated, as coordinated, as talented as they. That, I think, is what draws me to them; their hopes to be the best they can be in their efforts, become mine…and mine, theirs.)
To me, the ceremony was relaxed, non-frenetic; in the BEST sense of the word, “folksy.” And also, too, I thought the ads were 100% better/more entertaining than the ones that CBS ran during the Super Bowl. beth.
[Although WATW was not so much wonderful, I'm thinking. Maybe I'm too old to recognize most of the artists? Maybe I'd never much liked the lyrics of the song, anyway? Who knows. b.]
Heard today on CNN , that Bill Maher will be a guest on the Larry King show , tues nite.
Can’t wait to hear what he has to say about SP!!!! I am sure I will be laughing very hard.
As for the gal in Texas that is excited about snow —-I will be happy to send a few feet of Iowa snow down there. WHEEEEE—–and we are going to get it again this weekend.
Just wanted to say hey and YEah for ‘Brian the Moose’ making a fashion statement on the TEAM USA Hats during the opening ceremony… snicker made me laugh! Ohhh wait that was planned right? (!:
Um…..yeah! That was TOTALLY planned. I didn’t say anything because I just wanted to surprise you.

LANGLEY, VA (The Borowitz Report) :
A sharp uptick in what the Central Intelligence Agency has termed “indecipherable chatter” has been traced to former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, an agency spokesperson confirmed today.
According to the spokesperson, the CIA first noted a dramatic increase in the unintelligible utterances around the time of the launch of Gov. Palin’s book, Going Rogue.
“We had a difficult time deciphering them because they did not seem to follow the discernible pattern of an organized language or code,” the spokesperson said.
In an appearance on Fox News today, Gov. Palin confirmed that the impenetrable chatter was hers and explained that she spoke the way she did “to confuse foreigners to our soil who would attempt to harm us by understanding us.”
“Being that Americans have difficulties understanding what I’m saying, just now imagine, also too, how confusing I must be to foreign ears like Putin,” she said.
When asked what her favorite language was, Gov. Palin responded, “All of ‘em.”
