Open Thread – Two Plies of Palin

What is there to say? Here’s a gift for the person who has everything. Because I’d feel pretty safe in betting they don’t have THIS – a gen-u-wine roll of embroidered Sarah Palin toilet paper. You betcha.

PalinTP

Embroidered Toilet Paper,
first sheet is machine embroidered
So if you really wanted to, you could place it in an acid free pouch and save it forever. Journal about it, show people you have a great sense of humor

I prefer to embroider on charmin tissue, however if you prefer something different please let me know in the message to seller.”

Only the first square has the embroidery, so really the fun would be gone fairly quickly, unless of course you follow the suggestion in the items description and purchase an “acid-free pouch” so that Palin’s smiling face may look out at you from the linen closet until the end of time. And by all means, don’t forget to “journal about it.”

February 17, 2010
Dear Diary,
The day I’ve been waiting for finally arrived! I checked the mailbox and saw a box! Yup, I got my six dollar roll of Sarah Palin toilet paper at last. It’s the most awesome day, ever!!! I hope I get an acid-free pouch for my birthday so I can keep it forever and ever. This one’s on Charmin, but I’m going to save up and make a special request for Cottonelle. Maybe I’ll start a collection and get one on each brand!!!!! :-) They have a George W. Bush roll, and also Jack Kennedy, but Sarah totally rocks!! I think I’ll bring it to work tomorrow and put it on my desk so everyone can see it and be jealous. Hahahaha! Losers.

    I don’t agree with many of George Will’s conservative views, but he does love (not Use) his son with special needs, and I admire that in a man, er, parent, er person.

    Can you imagine the difference granny blah blah could make if she put even a fraction of her Snark Energy towards Advocacy? Possibilities for redemption, even, but I’m not holding my breath.

    OMG @4 I don’t think she’ll ever be president either, but she still has the power to do much harm with her racist, divisive, holier-than-all screeds. Thank goodness (and AKM) most folks can see that now.

    My son brought me a roll of SP toilet paper a month ago. The place he buys his cigars (a huge outlet here in NC, famous on the east coast) was giving them away with every purchase, along with others (he also has a roll with $100 bills printed on it). Every sheet has her face on it. Of course, I’m too “nice” to actually use it, but will save it as a reminder of how incompetence, lack of education, and general stupidity can earn you a lot of money.

    OT on the Open thread: :)

    I dream in vivid detail and if I recall them, like last night’s, it seems nearly real. Well except when the scene suddenly changes… you know.

    I had a dream last night and guess who was in it? Rachel Maddow! It was strange. She was my Pilates instructor on the last day of class. She was wearing a periwinkle jogging suit and her hair was everywhere. She gave us all candles (mine was purple) and came around and lit them for us. Mine kept going out and she came over twice to relight it for me. I remember sitting on the floor looking up at her at one point and her belly was visible where her jacket had ridden up!

    Then suddenly there was a 4 foot sheetrock wall attached to some chairs in front of me and I had to move to the side so I could see…. That’s one of those weird dream sequences that come from nowhere. Rachel’s wardrobe changed to a flowing purple sari. Then we were all at desks and she gave us three sheets of paper with photocopies of charts and graphs and formulas…. certainly not Pilates-related!

    I have no idea what any of this means! LOL

    *waving to Rachel*

    Many more details are floating around in my head, but I’ll spare you.

    Ripley @14 – weird – I dreamt of Rachel last week. Had this very strong feeling that she was going to be faced with a set of important choices in the somewhat near future. Message of the dream seemed to be that any of the choices would turn out well, in its own way. I was going to post it here but decided just to send it to Fawnskin because we had been discussing dreams recently. I’ll have to go back and reread it. Details are fuzzy.

    A critique of the conservatives latest political gimmick – The Mt Vernon Statement – from a Constitutional scholar at the Notre Dame Progressive Blog, Lefty’s Last Cry.

    The treatise opens with the rather peculiar declaration of “Constitutional Conservatism: A Statement for the 21st Century.” An open declaration of conservative principles is fine by me, but shamefully attempting to cloak these thoughts in the mantle of constitutional conservatism is an act worthy of ridicule, which we may now joyfully engage.
    After a lengthy preface, of the typical counterfactual history that conservatives too often engage, we stumble upon their real intentions. Let’s take these misconceptions one at a time.

    You don’t want to store your wedding dress in that stuff.

    Likewise, if you want to print a high quality book that will last, you don’t use cheap, acidic, pulp paper. You use acid free.

    [Saint Cloud Times] Reporter Dave Aeikens asked the Congresswoman [Bachmann]; “Tell me about three things, you’re in your fourth year now, tell me about three bills or amendments that you’ve done in your time in Washington, that you’ve gotten passed, that are most beneficial to the people of the 6th Congressional District?”

    Congresswoman Bachmann, in her own words:

    “I am in the deep minority in Congress and a fairly new freshman, so I don’t have substantive bills that I have been able to pass.”

    “The Hill: House Majority Whip James Clyburn said Thursday that a public option for health insurance “could very well” be part of a final health overhaul bill after more than a dozen senators have signed on to a letter asking that the proposal be a part of the final overhaul bill and that reconciliation be used to pass the bill. “‘So I think so far as the public option is concerned, if you’re going to do a 50-vote or a 50-plus-one strategy, rather than a 60-vote strategy, I’m not too sure that the public option cannot be a part of this plan,’ Clyburn said during an appearance on MSNBC. … Clyburn’s remarks are the strongest signal yet from a member of the Democratic leadership that the controversial public option could be reincorporated into healthcare legislation.” In the House, 119 members have pledged their support for reintroduction of the public option into a bill (O’Brien, 2/18).”

    We urge Congress to support President Obama’s plan to rein in the greedy, reckless schemes of the Wall Street banks and protect all of us from abusive credit card companies and mortgage lenders. We need to put back in place the rules that were set up after the Great Depression to keep banks from growing too-big-to-fail and putting our pensions, college funds and retirement savings at risk. The Obama plan will ensure the taxpayers will never again have to bail out big banks who then turn around and use our money to pay massive bonuses to their CEOs.

    Can someone please explain the latest saga in the ongoing Bristol vs. Levi drama? I don’t understand the objective, if there is one beyond bankrupting Johnston.

    I think you got it one. That and just becasue the Palins enjoy the power that inflicting pain on someone who is weaker than they are can bring.
    I think the more the world knows about how Sarah is using her money and power to harass this young man in his efforts to be a father to his child, the more red neck males will fall off her band wagon, because they will have been through this kind of thing with a divorce or child custody.

    Ugly is as ugly does. Remember that Bristol, it comes much sooner than you can imagine, look what it has done to your mom in about 5 years. Pretty woman to hag. And you are next in line for the throne and the price that is paid to claim it.

    This poor schmo just couldn’t catch a break, and yet, I’m finding it hard to feel too much sympathy for him.

    For example, he mentions early on in his diatribe that he bought into that ridiculous premise that private persons could declare themselves pastors, ministers, whatever, and declare themselves tax-exempt. That little scam was going around in the early 80s. Many of the NY Firefighters were going to seminars and buying into this nonsense. I know this first-hand because my ex-husband was a New York City firefighter for over 35 years. I remember meetings and discussions and telling my ex that it was a tax-evasion scheme pure and simple and that the IRS would not look too kindly upon it. Fortunately he did not pursue that avenue.

    Then he mentions a year in which he earned no income and did not file a tax return. Duh. You have to file a tax return, regardless. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

    Then he sort of puts the blame on his accountant for not reporting his wife’s undeclared income. Anyone sense a dichotomy here?

    Then he has a problem with what seems to be a clause in the tax code relating to what seems to be a third-party employee or what I take to be a “subcontractor” if I am reading his grievance correctly? As a subcontractor one is responsible for reporting and filing one’s own taxes. I know this because I’ve been a subcontractor.

    The one thread that I read through this whole unfortunate narrative is that he is not responsible for any of his missteps and actions. He is just an unfortunate victim of circumstance and Mr. IRS. While it’s true, the IRS can be an SOB and can and does take people’s homes and property away from them, DON’T try to game the system in the first place! Start out being honest and you don’t go too far wrong with them.

    This poor soul apparently had a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but he didn’t have to fly his plane into a building with the intention of harming innocent people. That negates any pity I may feel for him.

    I hope Levi covers all his bases, and I wish he had a better lawyer. I also hope the judge takes everything into consideration and is fair to Levi, his family and Trigg. Have you seen Mercede’s latest post? Gryphen has the story the latest BS move.

    The news is eerily quiet on the Palin front…she’s not attacking anyone, she’s not accusing anyone, she’s not picking any fights, she’s not whining, she’s not spreading lies and inventing controversies, she’s not even inciting violent acts. It’s rather refreshing, how I wish the calm would last.

    Actually, not true. Van Fleabag is VERY busy, giving notice to Levi about taking his deposition only 12 days before the actual event, and 1 day before a trial conference before the judge. Also, he’s issued subpoenaes duces tecum for 6, I believe, Vanity Fair, CNN, Playboy, CBS Interactive, National Enquirer for depositions in March. Wants them to provide evidence of 1099s for money he made last year and any contractual obligations into the future for Levi.

    This is probably going to cost a load, since he may have to hire out of state attorneys to do some of the depositions since some states don’t allow those w/o bar privileges in their state to do them. I hope he doesn’t try to get attorney’s fees from Levi for all this overdone discovery!

    The bad thing about AK law is that Levi won’t get a chance to find out what Bristol’s income is, unless the judge rules on split custody–state law doesn’t require the custodial parent to reveal income. Only then will the extent of Bristol’s little nest egg be revealed–and where the attorney’s fees are coming from for her representation.

    “Olivarez fled the building from a fire escape and when she got outside she saw people trapped in Echelon building 1. All the windows she could see were blown out.

    “People were screaming and crying for us to help them,” she said.

    * Joe Williams, co-founder of the company, and Cynthia Reed, her boss, ran to a nearby truck with window washing equipment and ladders.

    “By some miracle there was a truck that was for cleaning windows and there were ladders,” Olivarez said. “They were putting ladders up against the building trying to get people out,” Olivarez said. “It looked as if they couldn’t get out, like both the floors were on fire. There was smoke protruding out of all the windows. It probably took about four minutes for the entire parking lot to be filled with smoke.”

    They began to get out people until fire trucks showed up with their own ladders, she said.

    After about 20 minutes in the parking lot, police began putting up crime scene tape and telling the employees to leave. Debris covered Olivarez’s car.”

Are they all afraid of him? It appears he has major influence at many levels of government (read CIA, FBI, etc.), influence he should never have had to begin with, let alone now that he is out of office. At least Liz hasn’t been quite so *in-your-face* lately, but I suspect we’ll see more of her as election time rolls around.

    Another bit of good news that got lost with the Austin/IRS incident – just glad he never got confirmed to the position!
    Bernard Kerik, who nearly became head of the Department of Homeland Security, was sentenced to four years behind bars for eight felonies, CBS News reports. “Kerik admitted in November that he lied to the White House, filed false taxes and committed other crimes. The former police commissioner had been hailed as a hero alongside former Mayor Rudy Giuliani after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.”

    I can’t get over Boehner whining that President Obama slapped the table, pointed his finger, and lectured him when he was at the White House for a meeting. Poor baby!!!

    Interesting statement from George Will – I don’t believe he is a Palin fan: “Political nature abhors a vacuum, which is what often exists for a year or two in a party after it loses a presidential election. But today’s saturation journalism, mesmerized by presidential politics and ravenous for material, requires a steady stream of political novelties. In that role, Palin is united with the media in a relationship of mutual loathing. This is not her fault. But neither is it her validation.”

    Wow, just wow! Now we see the true make of the man who’s been hailed as the new poster boy (pun intended) of the Republican party:

    ‘Newly-minted Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) appeared on Fox’s Neil Cavuto and showed none of the outrage and concern about terrorism that he exuded during his Senate election campaign. Asked for his reaction, Brown said he felt for the families, but quickly shrugged off the attack and transitioned to say that “people are frustrated” and “no one likes paying taxes.” ‘

    I think the word callous would definitely apply here…or perhaps disgusting and heartless might be more accurate. How thoughtless and cruel of him to make a comment like that when people innocent people died or were seriously injured in this attack.

    Ann Strongheart reflects on the last six months in her latest post. Those who helped with the food drive last year receive the high honor as being named “some of Ann’s friends:”

    “Segundo and I were enjoying our life together while at the same time trying to ease the pain and suffering of our neighbors. Ok I just remembered how Segundo wasn’t always very helpful nor excited about the prospect of helping me with the food drive. I can remember the first time I enlisted his help in delivering the food. Segundo grouchily (is that a word?) agreed to help me. I remember our first delivery was to an elder widow. Segundo carried in the box and saw how excited she was with all the food we had brought her. Then she asked how/where the food came from. Since Segundo was fluent in Yup’ik he was trying to explain to her about the food drive. Ever tried to explain the internet, emails, and blogs to someone who has probably never even used a computer?? Ever tried to explain that through this magical World Wide Web we have people from around the world sending food to lil ol’ Nunam Iqua? Not an easy task that’s for sure!

    But Segundo tried. I don’t remember exactly how we ended up explaining this to her. I think the conversation ended up something like Ann’s friends sent it! The best part of the whole thing was when we left her house. Segundo and I walked outside and he was sooooo excited. He wanted to go deliver more food. He said it felt so good to see the happiness and relief the food donations were bringing to our neighbors/relatives. He was like a little boy…”Can we do it again??? huh ?? huh??” “Who’s next?” “No I’ll carry the box!”

    Read the whole post (great photos, too) and leave a post “hug” for Ann:

    Ms. Friedman’s parents have out “real Americaned” T2′s parents. That was all to her good, but does nothing for him.

    My dad was surely a child of his generation. Work hard, work long, but provide for your family the best you can. He did. He didn’t have much free time, but what he had, he spent with us. He taught me all kinds of great things, played with me, and showed me how to really think.
    T2′s dad seems about as engaged with his family as a pile of moose pie. Never see him out snow mobile-ing with his kids. Never saw him on stage looking at them with pride (not even much looking at his wife with pride. More like a meal ticket.)

    Never saw him on stage looking at them with pride
    (above quote referred to Todd)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Your reference to a stage and pride brought back a wonderful memory of my own father. He was also a hard worker and not particularly demonstrative, but my sisters and I always knew he’d do anything for us. We were his first priority, even though he rarely said as much. However, what he did for us told us so much more than anything he could have talked about.
    When I was in high school and college I did a lot of musical theater, both in school and in local community groups. Before I was old enough to drive, he was there every night, dropping me off at rehearsal and picking me up after it was over. He never missed a show, even though I was usually working backstage or in a small chorus part. I knew that I could always count on his quiet support.
    The only mildly negative thing he ever said about my theater years came after a performance of Guys and Dolls in which I had several REALLY small parts. One was at the very beginning of the show, when the curtain opened on a newsstand, three of the male principals and me…the newspaper girl. Because I played several parts that were unrelated, someone decided I should wear a blonde wig for this scene. I do NOT have the coloring for blonde! Aftet the show, my father told me, as always, that the show was great. He then chuckled and strongly suggested that I NEVER become a blonde. It was a small moment but has remained, nearly 30 years later, as one of my favorite memories.
    Thanks for reminding me of it!
    You’re welcome! Those of us fortunate to grow up with dads that would do anything they thought would help us were truly blessed!
    A friend of mine made a memory book for her mom. It was a small photograph book, and she printed out lots of things she remembered fondly of her growing up years and slipped them into the pages. If she had pictures, she included them. Her mom, not a weepy person, cried over it. She looks at it often. I’m thinking of doing something similar for my parents. They need to know how much I appreciate all their care for me, even as an adult.
