Heckuva Job, Brownie! Scott Brown Immediately Disappoints GOP

Well, well, well.

I wondered when Scott Brown, the truck drivin’, centerfold posin’ Republican defeated whatshername in the Massachusetts Senate race, what would happen.  The way I saw it was that any Republican who replaced Ted Kennedy would have one of two career paths:

a) Follow the will of the constituents he was elected to represent and quickly become one of the most hated senators in the Republican party.

b) Follow the will of the party he’s a member of, and quickly become one of the most hated senators in his home state.

It’s still far too early to make the call, but Scott Brown made the news again yesterday, and it wasn’t for trying to get his daughters a date, or horrifying the left.  He cast a procedural vote in favor of Obama’s jobs bill, breaking ranks with all those Republicans who could never ever get elected in Massachusetts.

He may be choosing plan A.

“It’s a small step, but its still a step,” said Brown whose endorsement of the bill was the shot heard round the blogosphere, sparking celebration on the left and a rash of unhinged outrage from the right.

The Huffington Post and Wonkette share some of the reactions on Twitter.

I thought I’d check it out myself and I have to say it made for some very entertaining reading with morning coffee.  Here are two recent ones.

Let’s wait for his second and third important votes before making any calls. No reason he shouldn’t play with our heads, after all.

Three cheers for the 2 senators from Maine as well – Sen. Snow has taken a beating from the GOP this past year but she’s a good moderate, Sen. Collins is more of a wishy-washy semi-moderate but at least for this one bill that needs to be passed they both agreed for the good of the country first, party loyality second.
Agree with oregonbird, Brown has a long way to go – I’m sure he’s feeling all independanty now but I’m also sure the big thumb of the party of no will be smashing down on his head as we speak.

Sneaky little Devil, huh? He must be more afraid of us than he is of them! LOL

I hope he can stand the pressure.

H/T to good old Brownie. Dare I say it….that was a very mavericky thing to do. To all you GOP folks out there, see how easy it was. You can all do your part by actually trying to support your constituents.

I can’t decide which quote is my favorite. It’s a tie between, “I shall remove myself from your fan page. . .” (Oh, no, please no! Not that!) or, “Hey Judas, how many pieces of gold did you receive?” (Um, I believe that was silver. . .)

Seriously, he voted about a procedural issue. Let’s not get carried away.

Boy the Teabaggers are mad as hell! It’s kinda cute to watch.

It’s amazing how the Right have made it ok to block ANY bill from a vote, even a JOBS Bill! Weren’t they JUST complaining about the unemployment rate? These people are delusional.

We’ll see how Brownie turns out.

And oh yeah – THIS is how you go rogue =)

I am willing to wait to see how his votes this year go, both now prior to midterm elections and afterward.

If he remains a moderate Republican, willing to work with whom ever is in power to help all people and his country, then he could have a long career. If he becomes a Republican stepping stone, then I think he’ll have a shorter career. It’s going to be up to him.

I know one thing. Not one Democratic or Republican Senator ever gained any kind of power or longevity by being the mouse in the corner. If you want to be a leader, you must lead.

Senator Brown, cast the first vote of both parties for the jobs bill, he walked in, said “yes” and left to go tell the reporters. That was a smart move on his part. Not giving the other Republicans a chance to try and gang up on him. Next time they’ll probably have someone waiting but for now, it was well played.

Does this make S Brown the new & fresher Liebermann? He will become a swing vote playing the GOP vs Dems to see which one will give his state “more” of whatever they are offering?

Hope he votes as a representative for his state – not just a member of the Republican party. More of these Congress & Senators need to remember WHO they are suppose to be representing. (and it isn’t just their party)

A few weeks back, when Brown was on one of the Sunday “news” shows, I was slammed for my comments about him ( can’t remember which site) I said that I thought he came off as somewhat measured and not entirely insane and/or fringe evangelical. I was holding out hope that maybe he could show us something new.

I’m certainly prepared for another disappointment but , hey – maybe tides are changing ?? Franken? Grayson ? Maybe we can hope to see that sort of change happening with the Repubs? ( yeah yeah – I know. throw things if you must. )

Lol, I truly do live in Ireland. I am following all this from afar. No chance I can vote unfortunately.

  26. 27

I was amazed by his vote, honestly. I knew that he wasn’t really as right wing as they (the tea party) all thought (pro-choice), but I didn’t think he’d be this gutsy this soon. In fact, after seeing the Cosmo photo and hearing him offer up his daughters, I didn’t have much respect for him at all.

But now – we will see. I hope he continues to vote for his constituents and isn’t taken over by the repbulican lunatics who have been calling all the shots.

Those comments, though, would be funny if they weren’t so scary. Some of those folks are just plain nuts. Maybe instead of a literacy test for voting we should have a sanity test. Well, probably not.

And, please, someone send some of these folks a dictionary and an English grammar book. Or send them back to the 7th grade – they seemed to have missed a few of the finer points of their school years, like attending class and learning anything at all.

It’s touching that a Republican politician would show such concern with the welfare of his constituents.

The (very turgid) Sen. Shelby put a blanket hold on about ninety of President Obama’s appointees-in hopes of getting some earmark spending in Alabama-but would never go as far as voting for a Socialist Jobs Bill (“Jobs for all” sounding a little too much like communism for God’s taste).

Brown seemed to join the more popular path here. But Brown is through and through rhetoric top heavy — and when it comes to the psychopath who just suicidally and homicidally flew his airplane into a federal office building — really disturbing rhetoric.

I’m in the minority here, probably, because I’m not sure I agree with the abstract idea of a jobs bill without it at the same addressing and/or moving the market to address extremely pressing problems. In this case, the suggestions here could be watered down to be more job promotion oriented, and still effect the same ends.

Yeah, a bit of a link fest, I know. But Brown’s response and rhetoric is cut out of the same scapegoating, disturbing mode, and Washington is not taking the opportunity to address things sensibly, that NEED to be addressed anyway, when it is seemingly willing to “spend” money in the first place.

And it’s got it’s head buried deep in the sand on that latter issue.

Big Pete (#27), that’s a great point about Senator Shelby, and should be made more publicly.

Brown is more left than Snowe (see my 2/7/10 http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2676545/palin_calls_newly_elected_brown_just.html?cat=75 )

Brown (who ran on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs) should not be faulted and Tea Baggers should not be suprised. It was their leaders that threw their wallets under the bus. Brown has never been a conservative (as they define it). See my comment: http://tiny.cc/BrownLesson

I agree on the Stark case, very weird response from Brown, see my “Brown links self to IRS Attack” http://tiny.cc/SenBrownIRSattack

And for giggles… just after the CPAC I checked out the Alexa data on the top three from their straw poll. Ron Paul is hands down “da-bomb” attracting people from 18yo – 65+ who surf from home and school.

Palin, not so much and her average site visitor is a 65+ guy who might have some college and surfs from home. http://tiny.cc/CpacSeo She had no chance in a straw poll of predominately college enrolled kids. I bet that’s why she never attends CPAC (mostly under 25yo)… to them, she’d be an old lady (winky or not)

I personally hope Brown goes the way of Alan Grayson but I fear that he’ll go the way of LIberman. I would love to see a Grayson/Brown 2012 ticket — wouldn’t that really make the Tea Party’s head implode!

If the rightwingnutz who are writing in agony at Brown’s vote can figure out a way to elect a robot, that’s all they’d need, really. And the cost would be so much less than what it is to keep someone in the House of Lords.

I’m sure the great minds of the Teabagger movement are working on a plan to do just this. Too bad they hate science, which of course is what it takes to succeed in robotics. Maybe their pal Dick Cheney can wangle someone from the dark kingdom to put something together for ‘em.

    Meantime, I’m lovin’ their suffering.
