I agree that this is depressing. We seem to keep finding things that will derail the Palin express, and it keeps on going.

Two things are happening. 1) The people who can make a difference are enjoying the train ride. She boosts ratings and is interesting enough to attract attention. 2) There are a bunch of people who think she is not dangerous and are only catching the highlights.

Probably the main problem is that she has become a celebrity. Who worries about celebrities. Is Paris Hilton going to change world events? Will Lindsay Lohan influence Congress? Of course not.

The unappreciated actuality is her greed and ability to be moved by it. Anyone who can attach to her needs for adoration and money seems to have some influence.

She has gotten rid of the people in her circle who might clue her in. Reminds me of an old story of the prince who lived in a room with windows and mirrors. The more he looked at himself, the bigger the mirrors grew, and the view of the outside world diminished. At the end he went crazy because all he could see was himself, and the glorious nature through the windows was lost.

Well, I won’t be watching, but I’m sure some will. The problem is, she doesn’t know what reality really is since she lies all the time. And the thing is, don’t most of those shows do the filming and editing themselves? She won’t like it if they edit it so we actually see what she is like or how she interacts with her family.

Looks like Bristol left home just in time. And so . . . how does this keep her children “off limits” if she puts them on reality TV? I know the woman has no common sense, and that she is stupid – she just keeps proving every time she opens her mouth or appears on whatever show she is on.

I’d love it if she gets turned down by everyone – they should all take a lesson from Craig Ferguson and just say no.

Lori in Los AngelesNo Gravatar says:

Seagull @32 – Her fans are justifying it, yes. Over in the sea, they had to justify the new book (a book of quotes and essays by other people) – a couple of them, disappointed that it was not a policy book were quickly admonished that SP is a genius and cannot be questioned. Just as they convinced themselves of this, they had to spin the reality show – you see, it will be about Alaska and drilling ANWAR, NOT about SP’s family – so this, also, too, is GENIUS.
If quittypants bites the heads off puppies and drinks the blood, this too will be GENIUS.
Nothing will convince them to see what she is – they are dillusional.
When someone like Palin grabs the celebrity ring, watch out – the media LOVES to build up celebrities and then take them down – hard.
Her insatiable need for the spotlight will be her undoing. I really believe that.

A new book, a reality show, that’s perfect. “Celebrity” is Sarah’s calling. She will be like the cabbage patch doll (dating myself), it was a wonderful idea- and the beanie babies craze – but how long did they last? poof to Sarah!

There is no way to spin this as a presidential maneuver. Reagan was a real actor (not a reality series player) and THEN SERVED as governor. He did not quit his job. He did not go from being an actor to a governor. Sarah Palin is not Fred Thompson.

A Palin reality series is the death knell for her political career; actually, many of us knew the bell rang long ago.

    #58 @Irishgirl

The exact origin of “say uncle” or “cry uncle,” an American invention first appearing in written English around 1918, is unclear, but there are, as usual, some interesting theories. One theory posits that “uncle” is actually a mangled form of the Irish word “anacol,” meaning “protection” or “safety,” making a demand from an aggressor to “cry uncle” equivalent to the thug demanding that his victim “cry for help” as a signal of surrender. There’s no real evidence to support this theory, but there certainly was no lack of recent Irish immigrants in the U.S. around the turn of the century, so it’s not entirely implausible.

    aussiegal77No Gravatar says:

I freaking knew it. I just knew she was angling for a reality show. OMG will the freak show never end?????

The Huffpo article this morning about Palin & her entourage being like “locusts” at the Oscar gifts suite was perfect.

The greed is just breathtaking – keep in mind, this woman is already a multi-millionaire with a lucrative contract with Fox News and an in home studio. She just couldn’t resist grabbing more and more stuff – gifts for all of her entourage AND herself and family. She didn’t even bother to adhere to the protocol of donating her gifts + $1,700 to the Red Cross. If ALL of her entourage had already gotten gifts, isn’t that more than enough to go around, even with the donation?

I hope everyone sees this – it’s consistent with her behaviour during the campaign. I’m amazed at so many people willing to put up with her BS.

I say again – she can not be serious about running for POTUS in 2012, this is very damaging her to her “brand” of being a normal everyday hockey mom.

  74. 75
    aussiegal77No Gravatar says:

    Hmmm…..

LA TImes indicate that Palin did donate her gifts + $1700 (The article said “I’m told that Palin donated her gifts etc” that’s not exactly rock solid fact): http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gossip/2010/03/sarah-palin-oscar-gift-lounge-bristol-.html

Conflicting reports from E Online: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/the_awful_truth/b169997_sarah_palin_grabby_entourage_like.html

Yet another conflicting report from Hollywood Life – seems she did donate some money:
    http://www.hollywoodlife.com/2010/03/03/sarah-palin-sexy-lingerie-oscar-gifiting-suite/

    And one more:
    http://www.popeater.com/2010/03/03/sarah-palin-reveals-her-love-of-hollywood-swag/

So from all accounts, Palin and her crew got there before anyone else, practically cleaned the place out (WHO needs 40 pairs of headphones??) but she did donate money (not the free stuff) to the Red Cross so that is one redeeming factor.

However – being on comparable grounds as the likes of noted free-loaders like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton is not exactly presidential OR elegant.

I get it – it’s free designer high end stuff so why not partake? That’s fine – get yours, girl. But does it have to be this unseemly? Can Palin (and her crew) ever do anything with class and grace? Can she not have just picked up some stuff then write a fat check to Red Cross? Accounts above show that she donated $1700 to $2000 – Alyssa Milano alone donated $50,000 to Haiti. Sarah Palin makes just as much as Milano (maybe even more) – and she could only squeeze out $2000? Come on.

But hey – credit where credit is due – thank you Sarah Palin for your concern for the people of Haiti. I am sure your $2000 will be put to good use. Enjoy your new goodies! (No snark or sarcasm, I meant that!)

I think I agree with him. The reason why Palin is so angry at “the media” is cuz they make fun of her and won’t bow down and worship her. She hates them for being such meanies! She’s a typical attention craving cheerleader with a mean streak. She wants to be the Prom Queen and she wants everyone to LOVE LOVE her. She LOVES the glitz and glamour of Hollywood! The clothes, the money, the limos, the papparazzi! She wants it all! But will never admit it.

We also know she just wants CASH MONEY + FAME…..so I think Lawson’s idea is brilliant. It’s a gamble, I agree! But give this woman a talk show, all the crazy “base” people will come on it thus showing us ALL just how nuts it would be to allow teabaggers and neocons back in power and voila! Democratic Party in power for a generation or more!

It’s a Faustian bargain, I know. But come on, we gotta do SOMETHING! Palin will not go away! At this rate, we’re looking at 2 new books every year!! Oh the pain. I just can’t handle it anymore!!

Make her into the Hollywood celebrity she LONGS to be – and she will never be taken seriously in politics ever again. I don’t care if her base love her and if the Teabaggers invite her to speak every year at their convention. She’ll be nothing but an airhead with a talk show.

Somewhere, Meg Stapleton is kicking herself for not hanging on another few weeks in Crazy Land to cash in on the free Oscar goodies!! hahhahahaha!

It was just announced here (LA) on the local mornings news (KTLA) where I’m visiting for a few days that on her ‘visit’ to LaLa earlier in the week, sister and her ‘people’ met with various ‘producers’ of kinda-reality shows and MAY have come to an agreement for a new program to be based at sister’s compound that focuses on ‘the rigors of growing up and living in Alaska’.

This snippet of a story this morning stopped me in my tracks like fast-dry concrete and then I almost spewed the same as you did when you heard the second book story from Shannyn.. To make her into the Hollywood celebrity she longs to be — if you do that it just moves her higher up her ladder on to the next on her list. She’s never happy, never will be with accomplishing a goal she has set and as she attains each of them, she cares not about collateral damage. Making her the Hollywood celebrity would be in her eyes rewarding her and she would believe she’s then entitled to move up.

She truly has to be stomped on and stopped. She’s good for a laugh but too many of her followers are unhinged. When they will do ‘anything’ for her and then post names, addresses, pictures of houses, of those that don’t agree — there lies the danger.

To sign on – clearly shows they under estimate the other side!!! The producer, creator, network, cable — they thought ratings & sponsorship was having a rough time now – they ain’t seen nothing yet.

Against my better judgement, I took a peek at some video from her visit to Leno, and boy howdy, her first lie I believe started at around word #3 after she first spoke? Oh the BS, it does flow like a river, and it sounds like that body of water will pay off for her quite nicely! Let’s hope her prolonged 15 minutes have a flameout real soon, because sooner or later I would think that even her die hard fans would start to get tired of her. Plus with all the $$ she’s making, the envy could turn to resentment real quick don’t you think?

As for the rest of us, well she isn’t getting any smarter that’s for sure, and all that $$ may trump any desire she may have for “partial term” elected office. I know she’s good news for Dems if she runs, but ever since the SCOTUS decision, well, just don’t want to go there if you know what I mean. Ugh!

Thanks for the link to the HuffPo article re:Palin reality Show, Winski@86.

It doesn’t seem clear whether this is an actual Reality Show (expected to run multiple episodes for multiple seasons, requiring ongoing commitment on the part of the network, cast and crew) or a docudrama (generally having a fixed number of episodes, limited time commitment).

That’s important, because while SP may have caused the TV viewership to spike on Leno and Oprah specifically (I have doubts about what her appearances on Fox have done to raise ratings), the chief factor is that those are one-off appearances, not sustained week-after-week return viewership. She has zero track record for sustained …. anything.

If I were a network executive I would think long and hard about that before signing these folks up for something that I was investing in that I was expecting to be a long-term moneymaker.

But, if it is a ‘limited run’ deal, the net execs might gamble on her one-off phenomenon in the hopes of picking up ratings, but in the end they need money too – who’s going to advertise? Who is going to want to advertise during ‘her’ show?

I see this fraught with lots of problems, least of which is that the family’s appearances on TV I’ve seen so far have been really, really dull and lackluster.

I didn’t catch all of Sarah on Leno (probably good I didn’t – if I’d heard her ‘journalism’ rant, I’d have probably broken our TV screen in a vain effort to throttle her) but what I did catch came off as very scripted. While some of it was funny, it felt so painfully that Sarah was not actually being herself, and it doesn’t matter if she had or didn’t have a teleprompter or cue cards or if she memorized it – it was not off-the-cuff, it was all staged and scripted and I felt uncomfortable watching it, because it didn’t seem natural (we all know that natural for her is criticisizing those with whom she does not agree – President Obama, Rahm Emanuel. At least when she tried to defend her position regarding them, it really seemed like she was expressing her true dislike of them.)

I can handle an honest opinion I disagree with. I have trouble with people who are so obviously ‘faking’ that I have no idea how to respond to them. That’s how Sarah came off on Leno to me, in the last bit of the interview I saw and into the very painful ‘stand-up comedian’ section.

I didn’t think it was particularly funny (and Mr. Terps had to remind me that she herself did not write the jokes) but it still came off to me as … “The Tonight Show” writers gambled (correctly) that SP would be vapid and/or boring and/or insulting (insulting is different than ‘poking fun at’. Sarah’s good at the former, not so much the latter) and scripted the whole ‘stand-up comedian’ thing to pad time for what was a really dull guest.

I don’t think Sarah should be counting her pelts before they’re skinned.

Hollywood is a very nepotistic town. Not necessarily familial but definitely word of mouth. People like working with people they’ve worked with before or who are recommended highly by people they trust.

While the Oscar Gift Suite incident certainly doesn’t do Palin any favors, more telling is the truth behind her Leno appearance. The couple behind the Going Rouge coloring book were in the audience that night. He has a blog and he tweets. He’s a professional audio man. He called it as he saw it. And he says that Leno’s show was tracked. Laughs and applause were added that just didn’t happen live. The editors basically went back and made her appearance look more successful than it was in reality. (and the author speculates that is only one of the reasons she’d never do Letterman, Stewart or Colbert; they’d never add a laugh track to boost her ego.) While I’m sure the ratings were great (Shawn White and Adam Lambert didn’t hurt) I’ll lay money no one at home was laughing. More like staring like deer in the headlights at the trainwreck.

The camera men and technicians were there and they knew what was happening and what was subsequently done. Word gets around. Palin may have a lot of polite meetings but I doubt she is going to get her reality show. Shows cost money and they have to make even more money. That means sponsors. Sponsors aren’t political. They’re capitalistic. If they don’t think they can sell enough products to the small demographic that her show will generate they won’t buy air time. If enough air time can’t be sold, then neither will the show. TV isn’t charity and it isn’t political. It’s a business. And Palin can’t bring home the bacon and support the bottom line. Leno did her a favor and in doing so didn’t do her any favors. I’m sure in her deluded head she thinks she’s a hit. Leno’s writers tried their best to make her into a stand up comic. Abject FAIL. An added laugh track can’t make her funny or teach her timing.

In the mean time Kathy Griffin is filming around Alaska with Levi on her arm.

That’s gotta hurt. (Paying taxes on all of that swag is going to smart too. Her pittance of a donation won’t begin to offset what she’ll owe.)

Going back aways to #53 Ivan: Thanks for the link to shooley@iditarod.com. I just fired off a letter explaining, in very clear terms, why our friends here in Los Angeles won’t be making their annual trip to the race…ever… until Palin is removed as their “mascot”.

I also appreciate reading the inside poop about Palin’s appearance on Leno 2 nights ago. The applause was obviously fake…I live near Burbank, and have attended a few Leno tapings. They generally occur at 10:30 – 11:00 AM. Last I heard, the guests-on-the-couch received $500 each, although that was quite a few years ago. It’s no big $$ – it’s the exposure that counts.

The audience “draw” that night was for Shaun White, the gold-medal winning Olympic snowboarder. And who didn’t want to see what Adam Lambert might come up with? Truth be told, it was a great show. We were watching to see if/when/how $$arah might crash and burn, and then we had two accomplished “kids” to look forward to. Shaun White’s pure and fun honesty was wonderful to see. Adam Lambert – what can you say? He’s an entertainer, and good at it. They both made Sister look sick.

Believe me, nobody in Burbank is going to clap for Palin, or even issue a chuckle for her sorry attempt at moose comedy. Quite a few of Leno’s guests receive lukewarm applause, despite the giant lit up “Applause Now” signs everywhere. The clap/laugh-track has plenty of hours in which to be added before the show airs at 11:35 PM. What was seen and heard on national TV was faked. The entertainment world is all about ratings, hence, money.
