Hey, AKM, I’m sharing these CANstructions with my students as some inspiration for our next food drive. The art and culinary and construction classes are abuzz.
More than half of our students receive free/reduced lunch, and we also survived a Terrible Hurricane some years back. We hold food drives 2-3 times a year for the county food pantry. Our students are generous souls who share what they have and use the talents they possess. They give me Hope.
Off to learn something and do something useful today…after I finish proctoring The Test. Oy,vey. *deep breath and focus on my happy place*
Gotta love George Clooney !!

Being the butt of a joke should be nothing new for Sarah Palin—except this time, it’s not for her politics.
Following news that S.P. had a bad case of the gimmes at the Silver Spoon Oscar Suite in Hollywood earlier this week, known jokester George Clooney savored the opportunity to take a shot at the questionably witted soccer mom. At the Publicists Guild Awards luncheon in L.A. this afternoon, George schlepped about 10 overflowing gift bags onstage while presenting his longtime flack Stan Rosenfeld with the Les Mason Award. Once at the mic, Clooney kindly apologized for his baggage, claiming he’d run into the former Alaskan governor in the gifting lounge.
Clooney also had this to say.

Sarah Palin can add George Clooney to the list of people who are actually looking forward to her reality show.
Just a couple of days after cracking on the former vice presidential hopeful’s love of swag at the Publicists Guild Awards, Clooney weighed in on Palin’s plans for television…
“Sure,” G.C. said at the Oscars, when I asked if he’d be tuning into the Alaska-based series that Palin is creating with Mark Burnett. “I watch a lot of reality shows. I watched Steven Seagal…Where do you go from there?” (FYI: Steven Seagal: Lawman has been such a big hit for A&E, the cable network recently ordered a 16-episode second season.)
Clooney also told us he’ll be directing his next flick after completing Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, a family dramedy from Fox Searchlight.
“It’s a musical,” he said, before adding with a big smile, “about Sarah Palin.”
He was joking. Although anything is possible with George Clooney.
A former teacher and county commissioner will challenge Rep. Bart Stupak in the Aug. 3 Democratic primary in Michigan, the Detroit Free Press reported this afternoon.
Connie Saltonstall, a former commissioner in Charlevoix County, told me this evening she’s challenging Stupak over his refusal to allow health care reform to move forward without [anti-]abortion language attached.
Saltonstall told me her “two passions” are health care reform and choice. And after spending the last 20 years voting for Stupak, Saltonstall said he managed to run afoul of both of them.
all sane people view palin as the joke that she is…it’s just too bad that in this country, jokes can hold office anyway…I have a feeling that the evilness of palin will use that against us for a very long time.
So sad to learn of the death of Alaska village teacher, from Pennsylvania, Candice Berner while out on a run near Chignik. She appears to have been predated on by an animal, most say likely wolf, possibly bear, either before or after her death.
AKM, ever since Sarah started talking about an Alaska “reality” show featuring her of course, I’ve been thinking that you and some of your blogging friends ought to do an Alaska show. You have a wonderful eye for some of the oddities that make Alaska special. Did anyone else feature some of the “unknown” mushers whose stories were so interesting? Even the comments by Lovemydogs about being home keeping the rest of the kennel going. And not these pictures of the canstruction contest…. The show would feature Alaska’s awesome natural wonders that you frequently show us as well as interesting people, activities, etc. Sort of like a Charles Kuralt “on the road” program. I’d sure watch.
Here is some fun. On Snowbilly’s blog it has a link to a story and some interesting ‘ observations ‘.
The story post says ” Libertarians are deserting Sarah Palin ” and it links to a another blog. I thought it quite amusing but you can read all of the highlights.
Here is just one of them….
————-
“… Sarah Palin does have charisma and a certain following. A woman resembling her once walked into a Florida breakfast place and nearly caused a riot. Folks soon realized she was not the former Alaska governor when she started reading a newspaper. …”
and this in the story….
———-
“Each time Obama’s poll numbers drop, you know Hillary Clinton is scheduling a pancake breakfast somewhere in Iowa. You can also bet that Hillary’s people are taping everything Palin says on Fox to use against her.”
Sarah Palin’s fans are primarily libertarians and conservatives. A libertarian, Ron Hart of The Daily Caller, has written Fox-y lady: Palin as a politician, journalist or celebrity? He has some excellent insight into all things Palin:
Sarah Palin took a leave of absence from her Russia-watching post in Alaska to become a Fox News contributor. Who could have seen that coming? She represents diversity on Fox as that network’s only non-blonde correspondent.
It was either that or become the fashion editor for Field and Stream magazine. …
… Palin will also reduce her chances if the rumors are true that she is shopping a reality show. Following in the footsteps of Flava Flav and Snookie of “Jersey Shore” fame might not bring her the gravitas she will need to lead our country. …
… Sarah Palin does have charisma and a certain following. A woman resembling her once walked into a Florida breakfast place and nearly caused a riot. Folks soon realized she was not the former Alaska governor when she started reading a newspaper. …
Ron Hart certainly has a sense of humor, sees some admirable qualities in Sarah Palin, and still hopes to see a libertarian in the White House, but it seems as though he’d have to hold his nose to vote for Sarah Palin.
“Sarah Palin’s husband Todd was part of an Iron Dog snowmobile racing team this year sponsored by Mystik Lubricants, a division of the Venezuelan oil company Citgo.
“Yes, that same Citgo that’s owned by Venezuela. Socialist Venezuela. Socialist, Hugo Chavez lovin’, Venezuela,” wrote Jeanne Devon of the blog the Mudflats.”
Update on rescue attempt: For the third day in a row, helicopters have been turned back by winter storms. Still unable to reach solo hiker stranded on glacier.
Okay, mudpups, I need a favor since I am somewhat technologically challenged.
A close friend from work is out on extended medical leave following surgery. She’s missing all of our kiddies at school and, based on her last few emails, seems to be feeling a little lonely. I would like to send her a Chuckle of the Day to help lift her spirits. Some of the photos that austintx has linked to in past threads would be perfect (she’s very religious and quite conservative so not ALL of them would be appropriate, even though they made ME laugh!).
So, here’s the favor:
Does anyone know if it’s possible to somehow pull up austintx posts without going through a bazillion threads?
OR… austin, can you share the magic secret source where you find all those hilarious photos?
I’m still here but have to hit the road to Anchorage soon. I have a class up there tomorrow. Been procrastinating about the drive (rrrrgh-don’t know how many hours it is going to take…)
Joseph has flown to McGrath to welcome Collen for her 24 hour layover. They say there is great pie there. The B-I-L brought all of the spare and dropped dogs home this morning so everyone is tucked snugly into their houses. Feeding and scooping chores now get handed off to another neighbor until Joseph gets home tomorrow night. Then he and all family members will be flying to Nome to greet her there. Dogs here will be taken care of.
Bad news is that she was passing another musher earlier in the race and there was a dog fight (the other musher was parked in the middle of the trail snacking his/her dogs). Penny got bit. Hopefully she is OK. Colleen had all 16 of her dogs the last time I checked so she Penny must be doing OK. It will be good for Col to see Joseph. He is like a mother hen during these races (it would drive me Nuts but it works for them).
I don’t want to blow my own horn but a friend of mine posted way back on the “Mush” thread. She’s been lurking for a while and I finally got her to come out of the shadows. (I forgot to tell her about open threads and how things can get lost in past threads). She may need our support (in terms of dog issues) in the future. Her blog name is connorsmom. She made the coats for Colleen’s dogs. Everybody say “hi”.
There are some cute, cute pictures of Colleen’s dogs in McGrath on their blog, Go to http://rogueskennel.com and click on their blog. There is even something there for cat lovers.
Waving at lovemydogs and connorsmom! Those are just the coolest coats – I love the way AKM described seeing them as the meaning became clear.
Wow, Colleen still has 16 dogs! Go Penny – hope the bite is OK. Boy that’s a bummer but it’s still better than encountering an angry moose on the trail. I’m rooting for Penny and Colleen to make it safe and sound to Nome having a great high speed camping trip along the way!
One of the things I learned when I was helping handle dogs for my girlfriend’s mid distance races – every musher has a strategy and they keep it to themselves! Even if the strategy is just to finish and not race. My friend wouldn’t tell anyone what her plan was til it was over. It was just between her and her dogs!
MUYS: I think that one of the things that has made Lance so successful is his ability to adapt when plans go awry. I’ve watched him do it. Just stands there, scratches his chin, makes a decision and goes for it. No one knows what is going on inside that head. Maybe not even the dogs.
Here’s the Northern Lights. Much more worth looking at than Glenn Beck’s chalk board. Ever notice he’s so much “one of us” that he doesn’t even use a white board, much less a computer projection system?
lovesmydogs I really want to thank you for pushing..I guess I’m just one of those folks that doesn’t spend a lot of time on things like blogs but I hear great things about this site and have read some funny stuff. I like Brian..
Now THIS Can-struction crew looks like they might have been some
Lego Fans in the group. Quite elaborate…..they were very good.
Oh, how cool! I agree.
i realy like this one, very cool
