Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Look! Sarah Palin Made a Pearl.

pearl

Hey, guess what? I agree with Sarah Palin on something! OK, I also agree with her on ACES, “Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share” which created a new system of taxation on oil companies which resulted in much profit for Alaska, and  much hand-wringing with the oil companies. Cry me a river.

I’m still waiting for her to say something about it, now that the Republican jackals in the Legislature are about to dismantle it in front of our eyes. Remember how our self-proclaimed “Mama bear” told Alaskans how she could help us so much more from the outside, than the inside? Remember how the abdication was all for us? But so far – not a peep from the Quitter.

But, I digress. What was I saying? Oh, yes. I agree with Sarah Palin on something other than ACES.

There’s an expression that goes, “If you give a chimpanzee a typewriter, every once in a while, he types a word.” Well, I guess if you give a paid ghost-blogger Sarah Palin’s Facebook account, every once in a while they type something true.

Now granted, in order to find this little pearl, I had to put on the chest-waders and slog through a whole bunch of mental sludge, falsehoods, rhetoric and other unidentifiable glop.  The pearl itself had nothing to do with any of the rest of it.  So, now that I’ve come home and peeled off the waders, and given myself a good scrub down with the pressure washer, I’m ready to deliver to you…. this little pearl I found.  And may everyone remember this and take it to heart.  If they do, we’ll be fine.  Ready?

“America, we must resolve to stay engaged in what our politicians are doing. Don’t get tired and give up. All political power is inherent in the people. America can only be transformed into something unrecognizable if we get so tired that we give up our political power and close our eyes to what is going on. Find the energy to stand for what you know is right.”

Amen, sister.  Whoever you are…

Or, if you are Sarah Palin, just drink a lot of Red Bull to keep the adrenaline up for snark, and the brain cells devoid of real thought.

For the Real Americans, yes! Do find your true energy and passion for shaping our futures for the better!

Palin has no real endurance or stamina, she will just fade like the curtains in the south window. Then they begin to fall apart from overexposure.

    Right Martha,
She’s cashing in on her fame and doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to think through complex problems. As soon as she announces she won’t run (a decision she made when she quit the governorship), her speaking engagements at bowling alleys and bar mitzfahs will start to dry up. Hopefully by then, she’ll only be a bad memory.

If Sarah made a pearl does that make Sarah an oyster? I wonder if it was a “cultured pearl” or one of the natural variety? (most definitely NOT cultured as culture and Palin are rarely used in the same sentence…)

Make sure to include her in your next Oyster Roundup!

Great, now she’s giving innocent bivalves a bad name as well!!!

Well, didn’t Meg say that the world is “literally her oyster”?

Do ya think Scarah has any idea that we will take her advice and use it to expose her? Nah, that would involve insight, and that “thinky” stuff.

Seems like this post and the previous one have things in common. People are fed up, uneasy, disappointed, off kilter, mad, really mad, psycho, flummixed, burned out, still hopeful. etc.

    Me too.

I think the final resolution of the health care debate is going to clarify a few things and the lines will be drawn and the votes will be taken soon. Then we’ll have a bench mark.

I’m about 2/3’s finished with “Game Change” and it’s a great read. Not a whole lot that we didn’t know but pulled together brilliantly. And I haven’t gotten to the McClain/Palin part.

I think those of us who supported either Hillary Clinton or President Obama feel pretty significant disappointments at this point. We’re frustrated, some have buyers remorse, people are asking what happened to Yes We Can. Whatever.

I had to look it up, and it was Mario Cuomo who famously said: “You campaign in poetry, and govern in prose.”

This has been a hard slog for the Administration. And they have made some mistakes. Let’s all remember the energy we brought to bear to elect Obama and kept from electing McCain/Palin.

Don’t even get me started on Republican obstructionist.

I admire this President a lot. And I think we will prevail.

I just finished ‘The Audacity to Win’ (wished you lived closer, we could trade! but I think I’ll have to pick up a ‘Game Change’ of my own to see how they coincide/overlap/diverge from each other).

I now have a MUCH better understanding of the how and why of so many more things than I did before. I recommend it highly, especially to those who might be feeling a bit disappointed at this point in time. Seriously.

An aside: It was strangely satisfying to find the pin-point of my own ‘political awakening’ (during and in the days following the RN Conv.) among its pages, as well as the telling of the circumstances leading to MY efforts and contributions to the cause (I wasn’t mentioned by name, of course, but I know the dates I sent money and what time I spent working on the campaign.) Fascinating stuff. It was all I could do not to write in the margins!

    Thanks AKM. Love your writeups.

Just saw your status on facebook….

I tried explaining the “Ides of March” business and “Beware the Ides of March” and the murder of Julius Caesar to my seven and five year old. Which is not a good idea to try to do at their age, but nevertheless and excuse my sentence fragment, but here’s me trying to explain….

Me: So, girls, today is the 15th of March, which is the ides of March, which is an old term which means the midpoint of the month.

    Kids: (eyes glazed over)

Me: And, the 15th of March is when Julius Caesar was murdered. He was the Emperor of Rome a long long time ago.

Kid #1: Was Julius a man or a woman?

Me: A man. Julius would be a man, Julia a woman.

Kid #2: How did he get killed?

Me: His friend stabbed him in the back.

    Kid: How?

    Me: With a knife.

    Kid: Was it sharp?

Me: um, yes, very, he died

Kid #2: Did he keep standing when he was stabbed or did he fall over right away?

Me: Gosh, I don’t know. I imagine he probably fell over pretty quickly.

Kid #1: Is Julia still alive?

Me: So, anyway, if you ever hear the phrase “Beware the Ides of March” it’s from Shakespeare’s play about Julius Caesar.

    Kids: Are we having dessert?

And yet what she is saying is still no different than what has ever been said before!

Don’t give Sarah this credit (albeit through her ghostwriter) much the same way she’s built a misleading reputation of accomplishment in public service. Unless she has been engaging with the Governor and the legistators – and says something about ACES, her even thinner record as chief executive is obliterated. ACES / AGIA, ethics reform (was there one more thing McCain struggled to pad?) is unrecognizable or a dead end. What will remain her legacy as a half-term Governor?

I’ll give abolitionists, sufferagists, civil rights and gay rights advocates credit for generating a bold and brave lesson in civics any day instead.

  25. 25
    LaniNo Gravatar says:

“All political power is inherent in the people.” You’ll find that word for word in several state constitutions. I suspect the new ghostwriter has strung together several popular phrases.

Oh, and btw, New Ghostwriter, the people have exercised their inherent political power, and $Palin lost.

    * ** * ** * ** * **

How does someone claim Journalist credentials, have a 4-year college degree, and still not know she needs to use proper citation when writing or she is guilty of plagiarism?

“All political power is inherent in the people” is a word-for-word usage from most states’ Bill of Rights, including Alaska’s. As such, it should have been in quotes, and the quotation attributed. Wouldn’t have taken much, just a little “as it says in the Alaska State Constitution ..” or something like that. By not doing so, she is letting people believe she actually wrote those words and she did not!

The rest of the sentences above were cobbled together fairly well, but every phrase is a well-worn cliche at best and plagiarized at worst. Just pick a phrase and google (or as I do, Yahoo), and you’ll see.

And lastly Sarah – regarding those words you ‘wrote’?

That’s exactly what Alan Grayson is trying to do. That’s exactly what I am trying to do. That’s exactly what a whole bunch of people who happen to have different (and very valid) opinions from you are trying to do. All you do is try to slam us down. And we are rightly getting sick of it. Please shut up.

Oh, and tell your ghostwriter to properly attribute quotations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it’s rather ironic, since her whole deal in life now is to polarize the country as much as possible, and get other people to give up their political power and simply follow the herd that she thinks she can lead. Disgusting.

We must remember the difference between ironic and hypocrisy. Sarah does not do ironic – it’s too big a word for her, fraught with multiple meanings…

LOL! I just had to say that – I’m not picking on anybody! Sarah won’t understand the code up above neither, also, too because I used the word “fraught” and she’ll never bother to look it up.

I’m back to thinking she’s so stupid she’s almost funny. But of course she isn’t really funny – it’s all just so Reality TV, with the star thinking she’s in the tabloids because she matters. Her new face is just perfect for all of the tabloid covers, I’m have confidence she’ll be on them again sooner than later.

I just hope she doesn’t meet and crush Bat Boy – he was the only GW buddy who I liked. Even if he did get Hillary to cheat on Bill. Aw, c’mon – everyone reads the Weekly World News, right?
