That is such a gorgeous sunset! It just shows the artistic genius of Mother Nature and God! We Mudpups already have known that you have an eye for artistic perfection and some of us are looking at it through virgin eyes(new eyes) only because it has always been there but we have never taken the time to sit back and really appreciate it. Thank you for pulling up our awareness up! You are awesome!

I just posted at the end of the ” Parnell is killing Business ” thread when I saw the NEW post. If Anchorage has a Coffee Party Meeting tomorrow THAT seems like the perfect place to get together and have discussions about Parnell and these BOG decisions with the wolves. Alaskans will lose for all the reasons AKM mentioned.
Come up with a Plan and take action.
Does Parnell have a ‘ working Office ‘ in Anchorage…? Some protests with signs outside his office maybe ? Greet him when he shows up for work. Just saying.
    *******
Also… when I talked to the girl in his office yesterday she said Parnell might not answer the email I sent but it would be handled by the appropriate person.
This girl said that would be ” Clar Campbell ” ( Not sure on the name spelling)
I didn’t find her when I did a Google search of the name. Does anyone know WHO she is, her title or what she does..? Is she a Sarah appointee?
Maybe I should send the NEXT email to her.

why is everybody ignoring our new UA Chancellor? He ran the AK Railroad into the ground and laid of 20% of the folks who made the railroad run. Do we really want a retired USAF 4-star general in charge of our Universities? But there are bigger questions looming for Gen. Gamble. See for example (and click on all the links my darlinks): http://whatdoino-steve.blogspot.com/2010/03/sexual-assault-prevention-month-and-ua.html

That is a great picture! Love all the colors. Sunset is my favorite time of day, especially here in the summertime. Everything turns golden for just a little bit, and seems to shimmer. Fleeting, which makes it perfect. Himself is going down into the woods today to cut masses of daffodils for us. I can’t get to them because of the mud! Such a messy time of year, but the flowers are worth it.

Our gangster forsythias are starting to bloom. As usual, they haven’t listened to me one bit about the snow that is predicted here tomorrow, so they are just going to have to tough it out.

Heard Orson (our Great Horned Owl – named that because he looks like Orson Welles) last night! We haven’t heard from him in quite a while. Looks as if Spring is going to hang around despite the snow. Oh, and bobcat tracks down at the bottom of the yard explain what the heck happened to the fish in the pond. Guess he was hungry enough to come to town to dine. We’d heard of sightings around here, but we live in town, so that is a little odd. Poor feller. Maybe he can work with Orson to keep the stinking mole population down.

Loved hearing about the critters around your place.
We’ve had a lynx (pretty close to your bobcat) hanging around and making the dogs bark.
Then today I noticed tracks near the house from an ermine. So cute …… tracks coming up toward the house, then a divey-hole where it went back into the snow, then later another when it came up and went back down again. A few years ago I caught one above ground in the snow — they are so darn cute.

Just curious, AKM, but when you first starting landing roundhouses to Palin’s VP hopes, did her supporters ever try to shut down the mudflats? If so, what was wordpress’ response? I’ve got that issue with my site due to extensive blogging about the bullying death of the Irish girl in South Hadley, MA.

“we have concerns about some content on your blog” but wordpress is not answering any of my emails. if you have any insights, I’d appreciate the advice.

If your owl or bobcat are still hungry, I have some voles in my yard I’d be delighted to share with them!

I didn’t see any tracks in the snow near the patio where I thought they were living last fall. I thought that maybe I’d gotten lucky and the hawks had gotten them or they had moved on to annoy my other neighbors. Then the snow melted and I saw the crazy-driver depressions in the grass near the back of the yard around an old tree stump that’s covered with ivy. Ahhhh…so THAT’S where they spent the winter!

We’ve also had several coyotes in the area in the past few months. I live in a suburb of Rochester, so it’s not exactly wild country. A few weeks ago I saw one on the side of the entrance to the parkway in a small field where I often see deer. A friend of mine, who lives only a couple of miles away from me, saw one two blocks from her house. We have quite a large deer population in the area, along with lots of squirrels and chipmunks, so I suppose there’s plenty of food for them (not to mention the occasional Fido or Fluffy that’s left outside a little too long!).

I did mention to both of my neighbors that they should be a little extra cautious about leaving their small dogs in the yards alone!

8, 10, 13. We live in Illinois, about 15 minutes from South St. Louis, MO. Little old river town, right on the Mississippi. We also have foxes, deer, and coyotes, and now we are getting armadillos. How those silly things can deal with the cold and ice we get in the winter is beyond me. You know, I haven’t seen a live armadillo yet.

Our school district budget is getting slashed to the bone here, thanks to the Illinois budget mess. So many districts in this state are a lot worse off, but we are not given much in the way of state funds anyway. On my way over to a committee meeting to look at what we have (I am a retired teacher, and apparently they think I still have sense) and to make suggestions. Most people don’t understand how much of our budget is for federal and state mandated programs and insurance. I don’t look forward to seeing what the committee has found to cut.

    And from the Republicans –

“This is the largest tax bill in history,” the Republican leader fumed. The reform “is unjust, unworkable, stupidly drafted and wastefully financed.”

And that wasn’t all. This “cruel hoax,” he said, this “folly” of “bungling and waste,” compared poorly to the “much less expensive” and “practical measures” favored by the Republicans.

“We must repeal,” the GOP leader argued. “The Republican Party is pledged to do this.”

No, that’s not about HCR legislation – the man quoted was Alf Landon, in a September 1936 campaign speech. He based his bid for the White House on repealing Social Security. Seems the Republicans have broken out their Victrola and spun that same scratchy old disc every time our society has taken a step toward becoming a more civilized society.

What a beautiful sunset! Here in MA we are enjoying some absolutely gorgeous weather after surviving the torrential downpours of last weekend’s storm. Temps will be in the more seasonable 40s next week, but today the thermometer approached 70. Spring has sprung as they say; we changed the clocks and the daylight lasts longer. Today after putting some laundry outside to dry in the fresh air, I sat on my deck soaking in the warm sun that my body and soul so desperately needs, especially enjoying these first early days of spring before nature necessarily unleashes her mosquitoes and other flying pests. As I watched my son drag out the garden hose from the cellar to wash his recently purchased car and my husband clearing the debris of winter from the yard, and with the prospect of the health care bill vote tomorrow, I know that for today at least, it doesn’t get much better than this.

    Vibe Request !!!

I viewed THE most perfect apartment today and I very much want it . A number of other people came to view it right after me. I was there first, so I’m hoping that counts for something. The landlord is in New York City and is calling me tonight at 10pm. I need good vibes!

It’s right across from a truly beautiful park. ( designed by Frederick Olmsted who also did Central Park. Here are some images http://www.olmstedinbuffalo.org/CazenoviaPark.htm )

The outside of the house needs work but the upper flat is exactly what I’m looking for. Big eat in kitchen. Living room & dining room. Working fireplace. A room for my home office. Two nice bedrooms. 5-6 foot rectangular leaded glass windows. A front upper porch and a back balcony off the kitchen. Carpeted. Appliances. Working fireplace. And it’s cheaper than the tiny little places I’ve been looking at recently!

Please send your vibes. I really really want to be calling this apartment ” home” . I already have a place for my Brian, right on the mantle.

Buff – When I was trying to buy my first house 9 years ago, I must have looked at upwards of 40 of them, either online or driving past. After 2 months, I was convinced that I would never find one I liked in my price range. I was very discouraged and my realtor assured me that there WAS a perfect house for me out there somewhere and, when I found it, I would know right away.

She called me up on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend to go to 2 open houses. The first house was horrible. Not only hadn’t it been updated since the 70s, I don’t think it had even been CLEANED since the 70s! I couldn’t even tell what color the hallway carpet was. I almost gave up and went home but she convinced me to go to one more.

I walked into the second house, looked around for a few minutes and pulled her out the door. Before we even hit the end of the driveway, I asked her how to bid on it. By 9 pm that night, my bid was accepted and I was on my way to owning a house.

When you find the right place, you just know it. This apartment sounds wonderful. I am sending you lots of positive thoughts and hoping you have found the perfect new home for you, Brian and the kitties!

Since this is about clouds, for what it is worth, this is a poem I wrote about that subject.

    The Cloud

    Milk-white Ivory clouds
    Obscured by the night.

    Meandering nebulae
    Moving slowly towards
    first days light.

    Cascading, as easterly
    Breeze, shrouded, covering
    All in sight, caressed,
    untouched and pure, like
    a cloud in the night.

    Ocean below like wavelets
    In the sand, delicate woven
    tapestry made by earths own
hand. Tiny ship seemed like a
    beacon there ushering in first
    day light, planted by an
    artesian to bring the tapestry
    too life.

    Moving to shore, pulled by
    natures own hand, touching
my shoulder in a caress, pushing
    me gently across the land.

Shadow mist of the marvel haze.
    Blanketing the mountains in a
    comforting way, like the
meeting of old friends, or lovers
    as they touch.

    Cold atmosphere into heated
    currents flowed.
    Weather changed , a chill
    fringed The sight, turbulence
    ran roughshod over noon days
    Light.

    Lighting struck
    close to the ground
    spilling out the rain.

I am the clouds free to
    travel over earth’s expanse
    wherever it will take me
    and my lover the Wind.

I saw some of the footage on the news tonight and was horrified. I was born halfway through the civil rights movement and don’t remember any of the ugliness, which seemed to be pretty limited anyway where I grew up, just outside of NYC. However, I feel as though I’m living it all over again, ashamed for the world to see how proudly repugnant some Americans have become.

I long for the days when these racist, homophobic cave dwellers were too embarassed to vent their vile opinions in public. They have no interest in legislative policy; they are furious because the country is being run by people who are not middle-aged, white, heterosexual, uneducated, hypocritical, lying men who hold an unread Bible in one hand and a shotgun in the other.

There is a special place in hell for Beck, Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Palin, Boehner and the rest of the evil people who continue to encourage this disgusting display.
