Better than red. Which seems to be all my conservative friends could see yesterday. I asked some why they were so opposed to health insurance reform, and most don’t really know.
Looks lovely !
We are having heavy rainfall warnings today. Should get rid of a lot of snow but will also mean flooding for some areas and my yard will turn into a mud-puddle.
Struggling actor youngest son was working a temp job in a Finance firm yesterday in NYC. He enjoyed the grumbling of the Repubs in the firm. He kept his mouth shut until one asked he what he though and he said, “I know I’ll get health insurance now.” And smiled. He had a wonderful time.
We’re still weeks away from color in Ontario…thanks for the reminder of what is to come (I just wish it would hurry).
Please take a look at the following article and pass it along. Latest poll figures suggest that the wing nuts in the GOP are crazier and more desperate than previously thought. Encouraged by Sister Sarah, they are very dangerous and we need to continue to push back against their harmful rhetoric.
BuffaloGal…I tried to register on the ABC site but after trying more than 20 times, gave up. If Discovery signs Palin I hope their ratings fall dramatically. What are they thinking? Have they ever heard her hate-filled rhetoric? She is not someone I would ever invite into my home, not even through a television show.
I may just lose some Facebook friends over healthcare Look at what one of them wrote as her status. (this person is from NC)
“It is amazingly easy to support something that other people have to pay for.”
And I just want to write back that everyone is ALREADY paying. And not everybody is benefiting! My own brother made some comment about having a hard time eating because of health care being shoved down his throat. My response? “Does it taste a lot like 2 wars?” Also, I mentioned how lucky he is that he has insurance. He’s my brother. We grew up arguing. This time, I’ll win.
People have been bamboozled and lied to and misinformed about this new bill so badly that it makes me question their motives for humanity itself. I just do NOT understand why they would have a problem with me having health insurance. And that will be my question to them if it ever comes up.
Then I’ll ask them why they don’t want me to have the right to get married, while I’m at it! LOL…. just kidding. I’m not that brave!
My Republican/Tea Baggin’ family was/is extremely opposed to the Health Care reform. Recently, my younger sister, separated from her husband. All the sudden, she is very concerned about losing her health care. I had to bite my tongue so I wouldn’t say something.
I’m frustrated with people like Elisabeth (The View) who keep spouting polls that say how many people are against this bill but not clarifying that some of those people don’t think this bill goes far enough. Somebody (i think Shuster? ) on MSNBC broke the poll down more. So between the people for it and want it to go further it is a majority that want HCR, but not a lot of people elaborate on it including the MSM
I recommend seeing the entire show. It’s wonderful.
OMG @13 – I didn’t realize you had to sign in to comment. Sorry ’bout that ! The comments over at ABC World News ( link @11) are overwhelming a big ol’ NO ! re: whether people want to see a Palin Alaska reality show.
Ripley – Good responses to your anti-health care folks. I just got hit with similar from an aging, sickly Aunt. I want to respond back but there’s no changing her at this point and it’d only make her blood pressure rise. ( of course she didn’t think about the fact that she was raising mine with her email! )
People clapping yelling Nancy, Nancy, Nancy and now clapping for Harry. Not with the yelling of his name like they did for Pelosi though. Obama leading the applause.
He is going through thanking those who have had a hand in the bill leadership.
He says he is signing it for his mother and then names a small business man who is in the room and a child also present.
It is very inspiring.
Now on to talking about those who have tried in the past and that this bill is about all of them too. Roosevelt and the Clintons, other are mentioned.
Ted Kennedy is being thanked and his widow is there for the signing.
The President is calling to the desk area some members of Congress and some of the people that the bill will help to be there at the desk when he signs. There is a small child standing right next to the President with Joe Bidens hand on his shoulder.
I think I’m going to get all teary and mushy about this.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see some reasoned and reasonable Republicans just put the brakes on, stop thinking about their jobs for a minute and start to work together with Democrats in order to get the rest of the mess left behind by Bush and Co straightened out? Is this too much to ask? Where is their conscience? I read they will now oppose everything…. how stupid is that? All those stonewallers need to start helping instead of hurting, and if they don’t I can only hope that their constituents get tired of their hissy fits and vote them out.
Several things this fine morning, before the blizzard arrives! When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about john boehner, being orange and all. I had no problems registering on the abc site, in fact I ended up getting two posts up. Mostly, “yea right, I want to see the biggest enemy of wildlife, the environment & mother earth in general prattling on about planet earth & Alaska. Thanks but no thanks & furthermore if you give her a platform I’ll boycott discovery & their sponsors”. Last thing, where did our cute little creature avatars from yesterday go?
Buff, you beat me to it! The ABC vote on SP for spokesperson for a TV show. I was able to register and add my 2 cents – and I must say, there is a very loud NO coming from the crowd posting there! It makes my heart sing – not as much as the health care bill being officially signed this morning, with lots of applause for our President – but a softer, more melodious sort of humming in the back of my mind
OUR President just signed the healthcare reform bill! Conservative/Teabagger heads exploding all over the place! (….my wingnut Palinbot friend will be going nuts over her facebook as we speak, I am SURE.)
Thank you, Mr. President, thank you House of Reps, thank you, Senate. Please Senators – pass the Reconciliation fixes NOW.
This is a great day in America and I am so proud to be even a small part of it! YES WE DID!
And oh Republicans – please bring it ON with the Repeal the Bill efforts. Bring IT, bitches. I am waiting breathlessly to see how you would argue to go BACK to the days when Big Insurance can drop people from coverage when they get sick, deny coverage to the people who need it and to tell seniors to go back to cutting their pills in half by repealing the close of the Medicare donut hole. I would LOVE to hear it, honestly!
Lynnrockets: Bree’s life moved on. No drama. Just life in general. She decided to close it completely so she wouldn’t be tempted to get back into it all at the cost of her family.
And Jimzmum, I know that, but that’s a little excessive. He can’t even sign his name properly! One letter at a time is ridiculous. I would imagine that one pen would do, then just give out the rest with a signature or something. IMHO, it’s a stupid “tradition” and I want to know who came up with it.
Palin being part of the media is part of the “Seven Mountains” scheme of the fundamentalist vision of recapturing the country and the world. A Neocon agenda for world domination.
Just watched the bill signing, and did a remote drive-by to Fox; they’re grasping at straws trying to find something negative to say about it. They’re focusing on how 13 States are considering suing the federal government claiming the bill is forcing americans to buy insurance, and penalizing them if they don’t.
To me, this is such a non-issue. Most responsible families WANT health insurance for themselves and their loved ones, their children. I would bet there is a small percentage of people who refuse to buy insurance. Whoever these would be, it might be homeless, unemployed, maybe college students, etc. But again, Fox News doesn’t have much of a case against this bill, and they scrape the bottom of the barrel looking for anything to berate it.
I’m not sure this is totally correct, as I’m writing it from memory, but here goes:
“Nature’s first green is gold,
The hardest hue to hold.
Her first fruit’s a flower,
But only so an hour.
The leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief.
So down comes dawn to day,
Nothing gold can stay.” by Robert Frost
It seems that your Governor Parnell is jumping on the bandwagon of suing the “feds” over the idea that mandated health care is unconstitutional.
My friend at Huff Po says it best:
Tom Joad Commented 56 minutes ago
“There was a discourse on this on NPR this a.m. The state
lawsuits are frivolous.
If the law is deemed Constitutional, it
overrides state law and the states MUST comply.
If the law is
deemed unconstitutional, the state lawsuits are irrelevant as
the law will be stricken.
It is a monumental misappropriation
of state resources to file these suits.
The citizens of the
states should object vehemently, but in the states where this
is happening, they are too ill-educated to understand how our
constitutional government works.
This is being pushed
exclusively by right-wing ideologues, who really don’t care
about the people or the states or the federal government or the
constitution.”
Interesting discussion on five thirty eight yesterday. Bill will have a federal “tax” on everyone that will eventually go up to 2.5% for those who can afford insurance and don’t buy it. Those who have insurance through employer or buy insurance through exchange will be exempt from the tax. This is the way that the federal government can enforce the mandate. Of course, the idea of a new tax is distasteful to most of us. Someone wrote that it could be considered a self insurance tax. If you want to forgo insurance coverage because you think you can pay medical expenses yourself you will be taxed on that gamble.
Wow this Repub, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Cali.), just dissed his previous Repub President and his party, lol…..(he’s commenting on David Frum). gee I wonder if that’s gonna help him, lol. I also like that he used “they” were the big spenders, lol, either he wasn’t in office yet or he voted against his party.
I got a kick out of McCain’s fake outrage too, he must be scared sh*tless about his election. Does he really think he will win by not cooperating with the Dems until after his election? really? lol just keep BS’n John. Has Scarah gone to AZ yet?
“A former staffer, and you’re calling it credible?” Issa said. “We have an obligation to vote, at the end of the day, based on whether we believe it’s the right direction, the wrong direction, not withstanding some former Bush staffer. Remember, President Bush was the administration that got us voted out of office. They were the big spenders. So the credibility of the Bush administration on domestic economic policy ain’t so good, period. And this is an unaccountable person.”
I’ve been reading about the possibility that the Discovery Channel is about to sign Sarah to do a reality show where she shows off the natural wonders of Alaska, at a million dollars or more a show. If I were an Alaskan citizen, I would be royally p*ssed. That was her job as governor! I even received (though I can’t imagine why) a colorful brochure promoting Alaska as a vacation destination and cheerfully signed “Sarah.” So, she quit her job which was to promote Alaska to make money by promoting Alaska. I wish that there was an ethics violation there.
For Discovery Channel to choose someone who had so little regard for the environment, doesn’t see climate change as a real problem, shoots wolves from airplanes and showed a real disregard for people whose lives were impacted by ice or a poor salmon catch …it’s a crying shame!
Wow AKM, that orange flower is the rill dill! I love it when you do a fluff piece.
I’m still thinking Palin Skeleton Hockey names, so I’ll throw myself out of the blog and go back to work. We sure appreciate you AKM!
Palin is so… yesterday to me today. She just gets uglier, screechier and stupider by the week. She brings attention to her declining looks with a million changes in hair dos, weird clothes, stupid makeup – I am not a catty person and never make comments on looks. What’s so lame about Palin is that SHE has made it all about her looks, and so like driving by a bad car accident, you can’t help but stop to glance. And she does it so poorly, so without class, so randomly that it hurts the eyes.
I’ve heard everyone talking about wigs and falling out hair, and I don’t believe any of it. The rill story is that her hair gets big when the snakes get all riled up and can’t be contained. Rilly, rilly!
The Slutty Flight Attendant joke is never far from my mind – it resonated to the core. And it so describes the bore.
I also can’t wait for the day when the Lemming Bot army turns on her. They want politics (well, the little they understand), and she wants TV and big checks! There will be a shootout over this, but in the meantime she’s like a stripper. Dancin’ around and teasin’ about running for something, while all she really wants is for those dollar bills to get tucked into her pocketbook.
“He says he is signing it for his mother and then names a small business man who is in the room and a child also present.”
Haven’t read all the comments, and someone may have mentioned this already, so sorry. The child is Marcelas Owens from Seattle. A few weeks ago, he went to Washington DC with his grandmother and spoke about the need for health care reform. He is 11. His mother had a job and insurance, got sick, missed a lot of work, lost her job and insurance. Because she couldn’t get insurance, she didn’t get the kind of health care she needed and she died three years ago. This is one really neat kid. I was so happy to see him there at the signing. Awesome.
Our WI attorney general is talking *&^5 about challenging the Health Care,
which some parts of are same as two programs we already have,
AND both the governor and one of the houses of the state legislature
would have to agree….which will won;t happen.
What idiocy. Dangerous idiocy.
I hope the new Palin Discover show is about
scientific proof of her failed reality
1) the earth is more than 6000 yrs old (rilly)
2) climate change aka global warming does exist
3) you allow toxins from mines/drilling spills etc into
the water system – it kills the eco-system & life
(glass of water from Lake Lucille???? )
4) babies born with ruffled ears – don’t fix themselves
in just a few months
I was so disgusted and outraged yesterday when I learned that the Washington state AG is joining in that law suit, saying that he’s standing up for all the WA state citizens who don’t like the bill. I’m not sure how it will play out. He apparently made that decision on his own without even talking to the governor first, or anyone else. I sent an email immediately telling him that I thought it was the wrong thing to do, he certainly isn’t speaking for me, and assuring him that when he’s up for re-election, I will be working for his opponent.
I’m still angry about it. I hope that bit of insanity gets thrown out quickly. But it’s probably going to end up costing the tax-payers a lot of money. I’m not sure how that sort of thing works when the AGs sue the government. I know there was a law suit between Kansas and Colorado over water rights that drug on for years, before Kansas finally won.
I love orange. I don’t have a favorite color — I like them all, and love many — but, when I’m not dressed in the NYC “uniform” of basic black, I’m frequently wearing orange. Only the crocuses have bloomed so far (violet and yellow), but the huge willow in the garden across from me is decked out in pale, tiny green leaves. Just lovely.
My sis lived in AZ and would have shown up with a nice, juicy, half rotten bunch of tomatoes to give away to others of like mind, LOL!
Tucson is pretty blue – bet there will be some signs – hope, hope!
No way can they ban the media from the campaigning events – that would be slitting their throats even more than they are now. I’m imagining that it takes her at least two-three hours to pile on enough makeup to get in front of the cameras. I’ll tell you I’d love to see McCain’s thought bubbles when he sees her up close again!
judi-yes, you can find the Anonymous Bloggers blog, where she writes somewhat regularly, given she has two kids, at: http://anonymousbloggers.wordpress.com/
She occassionally shows up here and at the Forum too.
(I’m reposting this here so more folks see it, pass it on please)
Now this is what needs to get out to the media and American public to prove the Repubs are WRONG about the majority not wanting reform, a 1000 person of all age standing O over it, in Arkansas of all places.
Plus, all sorts of good things are going to kick in before the Nov. elections, so fat chance the Repubs hot air will get them anywhere except lining their own fundraising pockets as long as they can by mongering. McCain sent out a letter asking for $ in order to ‘fight’. Probably all the Repubs did, taking advantage of anger.
Rachel goes over it, this is good, please pass it around! Can videos be put on facebook?
Aw shucks! You beat me to it. I just finished reading that excellent blog with incredible footnotes as well as all the comments. It really should be posted far and wide.
And here I always thought they were supposed to vote for us or the majority not for themselves.Shows where the party of no stands and it is not with the people who elected them. This shows they vote for their own policies. The are unacceptable
AKM…. I just finished listening to Shannyn’s Show and she said she would be at the Assembly Meeting tonight.
I’m sure you will make an attempt to be there as well. The two of you should sit together and compare notes. The two of you make everything FUN.
And bring your little YouTube camera thingy as well. Maybe you can catch Sully in a ‘ Nixon moment ‘…… ” I am not a Crook “.
He has that Nixon look to him in his pictures.
Does Sully record his Office conversations as well… also, too…?
BIG THANKS to all of you who expressed concern about the four wolves recently killed near here in Yukon-Charley National Preserve.
There was indeed a meeting last night in Eagle. I could not attend due to work, but I did talk, both before and after, with a City Council member who attended. She taped it, and I believe there will be follow-ups in the news. Specifically, I think Alaska Dispatch might have some good info coming up.
Just wanted to give you a little update.
SMR, tell your girl big thanks for her interest in the subject, and I hope she changes some minds! Good for her.
Better than red. Which seems to be all my conservative friends could see yesterday. I asked some why they were so opposed to health insurance reform, and most don’t really know.
So when is Rush going to move?
Looks lovely !
We are having heavy rainfall warnings today. Should get rid of a lot of snow but will also mean flooding for some areas and my yard will turn into a mud-puddle.
Beautiful! But this isn’t, from Regina at Palingates:
It looks like Discovery is going for Sarah Palin’s idea for a series… how disappointing!
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/03/23/discovery-...
Alaskans who care about AK should boycott Discovery for this abomination. I’m having all their channels blocked.
Struggling actor youngest son was working a temp job in a Finance firm yesterday in NYC. He enjoyed the grumbling of the Repubs in the firm. He kept his mouth shut until one asked he what he though and he said, “I know I’ll get health insurance now.” And smiled. He had a wonderful time.
a day without orange… is like a day without sunshine…
lovely antidote for post-paylin-transcription side effects, eh?
I’m off to the library and the curious denizens thereof, smiling broadly.
let those little lights shine, all.
I agree, better orange than red.
Rep. Darrell Issa thinks David Frum is another punk staffer.

I’m with you on the orange. The orange poppies and purple lupin are out in Southern California. Woo hoo!! Fills me with joy.
We’re still weeks away from color in Ontario…thanks for the reminder of what is to come (I just wish it would hurry).

I jete between orange and yellow as my favorite color.
That color is a treat for the eyes on a gray gloomy day which we have today.
@thatcrowwoman – would that be your Socialist library?
@Newfoundland Dogs Rule – I ♥ your son!
ABC World News would like to hear from us as to whether we’d watch Palin’s show . I think we should be kind enough to let them know our thoughts :

You have flowers already?? I’m still waiting for the daffodils to fully open.
Yep, our deep-tinking governor, Sean Parnell, has declared war against the federal government. Can you say “bug” and “windshield” ?

Love that orange, just planted my tangerine gems marigolds this week!
I found a great post from American Dad, Russell King,

And it so describes the bore.
another wow……Frum says on TV that the Repubs have allowed Fox News to highjack the party, oh ouch, to Scarah and Beck…….Murdoch too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-q8cKvLfTw&feature=player_embedded
another ouch, lol, Frum’s article was read on the House Floor by Dem. Rep. McDermott.
http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/rep-mcdermott-reads-david-frum-s-waterloo-article-on-house-floor/2ec07fea2e69ff8a39932ec07fea2e69ff8a3993-1759025037328
I also can’t wait for the day when the Lemming Bot army turns on her.
Awesome.
Thanks for the chance to comment on ABC…
Our WI attorney general is talking *&^5 about challenging the Health Care,
which some parts of are same as two programs we already have,
AND both the governor and one of the houses of the state legislature
would have to agree….which will won;t happen.
What idiocy. Dangerous idiocy.
Martha – you are so right! Even wingnuts will realise some day Palin is in it for the $$$$!
Don’t want to miss the moment when the penny drops! hahaha =)
You can still add your name as a co-signer of the bill! http://my.barackobama.com/page/m/55c107ec/6b858026/ea7b5a0b/118873eb/3225471772/VEsH/
Feel free to leave your feelings on this article……..there are only 8 so far.

Health and peace to all.

Thanks Say No….. i said my little piece
Martha, I have to wonder how the good people of AZ are going to feel about money grubbing wealthy Scarah coming to their state.
I would imagine AZ has been hit fairly hard with the economic downturn. Do you think she’ll pull the Hispanic vote? I don’t.

@ Say No to Palin in Politics
My sis lived in AZ and would have shown up with a nice, juicy, half rotten bunch of tomatoes to give away to others of like mind, LOL!
Tucson is pretty blue – bet there will be some signs – hope, hope!
No way can they ban the media from the campaigning events – that would be slitting their throats even more than they are now. I’m imagining that it takes her at least two-three hours to pile on enough makeup to get in front of the cameras. I’ll tell you I’d love to see McCain’s thought bubbles when he sees her up close again!
Is Ann Strongheart still writing??
judi-yes, you can find the Anonymous Bloggers blog, where she writes somewhat regularly, given she has two kids, at: http://anonymousbloggers.wordpress.com/

: )
@39 R’ip: I’ve always kinda liked that pen tradition, but maybe a different approach would be better when it’s being shown in real time.
This is why he’s popular internationally:

And here I always thought they were supposed to vote for us or the majority not for themselves.Shows where the party of no stands and it is not with the people who elected them. This shows they vote for their own policies. The are unacceptable
Here is an excellent petition to sign about the hateful things that went on this weekend and how the Repos have done nothing to stop it.

GORGEOUS pic AKM – made my eyes smile.
AKM, I just LOVE your orange pics! Looks so much like spring, and we’re a few months off yet …….
And, oh yeah — keep those crazy critter avatars! They’re perfect!
Oh yes, and by the way,
Mister Vice President, yes, it was a big f#%&ing deal!!!!!!!!
