Duelling Realities.
This is it, folks! Alaska reality shows in a battle to the death…
In this corner, we have “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”. In red heels and weighing in at 125 pounds not including the bumpit, this fightin’ maverick will take us on a tour of all that’s fit to put next to the mashed potatoes. See the mighty herds “lasagna on legs” pad across the tundra. Don’t worry…she’ll get ‘em before Santa puts them on some socialist work program!
And in this corner, at 165 pounds stark naked, wearing the white gym towel that may “accidentally” fall off at any moment is… Levi Johnston’s Final Frontier! Episode 1 – Come with Levi as he tries to scramble up a mountain, shoot a sheep and drag it back down while avoiding black helicopters and guys in suits whose mission is to hose him off, stuff him in a suit and whisk him away to save the image of the floundering GOP. We won’t ruin the end for you.
But can there be only one winner? Or will both of these celebrities find a seat at the table for the scrumptious feast of “You can’t make this stuff up?”
Levi has described his idea for a show with the horrifying comparison “Jersey Shore on Ice.” When he found out that Sarah Palin wanted to “own Alaska,” he found the idea so distasteful that he and his people decided to try to beat them to the punch. And while many Alaskans are cringing and pulling bags over their heads at the thought of Palin “owning Alaska” they really don’t feel much better about the idea of Levi Johnston “owning Alaska.” It’s kind of like saying, “Don’t worry, we won’t hit you on the side of the head with a 2×4… We’ll hit you on the side of the head with a skillet! Feel better?”
And so the rest of us sit helplessly and watch the two Wasilla Warriors duke it out for ownership in the minds of the general public. In a state that would reach from coast to coast of the Lower 48 states, why must our two most famous spokespeople both come from the same town of 7000 people that makes the rest of the state roll its eyes. (I’m sorry Wasilla… You have some residents that I truly love, but you gotta know…)
Johnston is now cruising Hollywood in a giant party bus looking for a taker. The selling points of examining the life of a young Alaskan lad is apparently the fact that they have “tricked out” snowmobiles, and drive trucks, and don’t often use the internet. Wonder if they’ll touch on another favorite pasttime…

I noticed that Levi is doing everything Scarah is doing, except the politics stuff. Good.
Scarah needed to jump on that “shopping around for a cable or TV company that would host a show with her in it”. She needed to do that real fast, because she found out that Levi is going to shop around for a reality show. Levi has been planning this since January.
Anyway, I totally support Levi. And ain’t it wonderful how him and Bristol now have a chance at getting along, now that Bristol is no longer living under Scarah and Toad’s roof.
Who the heck is giving Levi advice? Someone who sees him as a short-term money-maker, that’s who I bet.
Any information that Levi might have provided that would have given insight into the Palin clan is now going to be worthless because he is diminishing his credibility with this approach. I mean, he seems sincere enough about trying to take care of his son, and he is so very, very young that his judgment has not been tempered by experience, but, really, this is insane.
He is being positioned to be perceived as a shallow imbecile. Sorry, Levi, but that’s how you are going to come across if you pattern your proposed show after Jersey Shores. No one is going to respect your opinion about much of anything. You had some potential. Many were awaiting your rumored book, but if it doesn’t come out before your “show” gets aired or the rumors about it get wilder, then it is not going to showcase well.
Do you really want your son to see you as as shallow as his maternal mother-in-law (that would be Sarah in case your Jersey Shores attitude is setting in early, son).
So many of us were pulling for you. Now, if a Jersey Shores on Ice-type show is in your future, we will be pulling away – fast.
Seek wiser counsel. Find a different path. You do not have to become a laughing stock, nor do you have to go punch for punch with Sarah. Find folks to associate with that will help you grow up to be the man your son is going to need. You may be the only hope he has.
Can we pleeeeease just put one of them on the Northwestern and the other on the Time Bandit, and let them duke it out?

I like Levi and I wish him the best. His Alaska is not my Alaska by any means (I prefer the quiet kayak and the camera), but I’m glad he’s sticking a fork in Sarah’s side as long as it doesn’t interfere with his chances for joint custody. She has already tried to flatten him several times, and I’m sure she’s irritated as he11 that he doesn’t seem to care about any of it, except his son. He has remained civil long past the Palin clan could ever hope to be! Long past what I could ever hope to be – or most folks!
Sarah doesn’t intimidate Levi – he knows she’s a whack job and I love it. I hope he stays a good egg and gets all this figured out for the best outcome for his own family.

Scarah is just panting, waiting for you to do the LEAST LITTLE THING that will allow her to enforce her…”take the kid away from his dad forever and ever and put him in jail if you can please.”

I am a resident of Alaska and have often watched your shows; however I disapprove of your choice in airing “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” and ask you to reconsider this decision. Sarah Palin represents and is very much responsible for the increased hate that is spreading in our country. Sarah Palin quit half term on all the Alaskans that voted her in office and she had 20+ ethic violations filed against her while only in office half term and she is still under investigation on some of these.
I have always thought that your channel was about what is best in our world and I am truly sorry to see that you are lowering your standards by using Sarah Palin.
Alaskans do not like what Sarah Palin represents and we do not want her representing our state. There is a movement to boycott your channel because of her.

I’m so disappointed in Discovery Channels for this decision and have already signed a petition against this. I will not watch any programming with her on it. I can barely stand to listen to her for a few minutes on the sound bites on the news. If I had to listen to either of them, I’d choose Levi, but I wish it were neither of them.

I just read that in the speech in Harry Reid’s home town, where Sarah disavowed rable rousing for violence against everybody that’s not wearing a biggoted T Shirt, she actually told the audience that if they saw a car with an Obama bumber sticker that they pull that car over and ask the driver how their hopey changey thing was going.
I hope she realized that it isn’t just crazy Christians that travel armed and that one of them might get themselves killed, or certainly arrested.
Somebody needs to explain to Miss Air Head that a vehicle is considered, in criminal and civil tort law, a potentially deadly weapon. If you threaten a person with a deadly or potentially deadly weapon (any thing that could kill, ie. base ball bat, box cutter etc.) it’s called criminal assault. If you run them off the road and cause damage or injury, even if that wasn’t your intention, its still a crime because you threated them with a potentially weapon.

I tried to be gentle. And there are many Wasilla-ites I think are wonderful. Mat-Su Democrats are AMAZING and have done much good work. But even they roll their eyes on occasion… Apologies if I offended. AKM
The easy response to this is to take sides on the dueling shows or be put off by both. This (these) whole sordid story(s) strikes me differently. Who the hell is thinking of the collateral damage these mind games are claiming?
There is a special needs child in the middle of all this. There is a child born to unmarried teenagers at war with each other (oops, sorry for the violent imagery.) There is a middle kid who appparently (allegedly?) was involved in a recent case of serious vandalism. An oldest kid who’s courageous decision to join the Army might be more complicated than that. A young girl who is being dragged across the country for the sole purpose of serving as a cute, little prop.
Is there any time for proper parenting? Is there any attention to the serious needs of the youngest one. Anybody in this traveling freak show going to school? Any one in this crowd giving any thought to how these young kids deal with this in the years to come? When everything is preserved on YouTube and the rest of the internet. Forever.
This whole bunch is scrambling for short term gain. Whatever the ultimate price. It’s easy to wish a Pox on Both Their Houses but I think they have set in motion a lot of things with serious consequences.

What a colossal waste of time and money (for both of them). Neither one of them has any business promoting anything to do with Alassska except perhaps some show like “Guns, guns and more guns…buy a gun and kill anything that moves…dominate the earth!” Just because Levi is up against SP doesn’t make him the good guy or the bad guy. He’s just the poor, dumb schmuck who impregnated her daughter and now has some bills that he has to pay. He is as much of a redneck as she is and has his 15 minutes of fame for the same reasons that she does. Do I feel sorry for him? Only because he didn’t ask for it. What happened to him is as bad as what she has done to her own children. Should I watch him kill things in my state? Heck no. It is bad enough that these people are breathing my oxygen. But she makes me sick. I don’t really have a problem with someone taking advantage/cashing in, ethically of course, of a situation they might find themselves in. I actually checked my polling place’s report after election day and 300 of my other neighbors (adjacent to Palin’s polling district) voted for Obama too.
So… we’re not all whack jobs.
In fact, I think the liberal/progressive/democrats in the Valley deserve an award for keeping it real. I’ll be doing more to see that people pay attention and support their efforts. We need to get more of them in office out here, and soon.
Here’s a question I wish someone would ask Levi! Why isn’t he paying child support to the court? What’s with him having Bristol stop by and pick up a check? Or, he mails her one! Then, he cries he can’t see his…”kid!” They get a ton of publicity. The judge in the case gets threatened and the next court date isn’t until September! No attorney, including Rex Butler, should allow this scenario!
Although they try to make it look like they are at odds with each other, I don’t buy it. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Levi–with Sarah’s help–ends up with a show on TLC too!

I grew up in Manitoba, another freezing, isolated place with lots of drinking, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling to be done and hockey to be played. And I know how easy it is for someone with less than half a brain in their heads to be elevated to a position of local prominence. But Manitoba has kept a low profile, like Alaska did until 2008. I feel bad that your accidental success story has come to dominate what people think about Alaska.
I’ve watched the Discovery Network of channels for over 20 years now and when I found out that TLC (The Learning Channel) was going to show “Sarah Palin’s Reality” show of Alaska, I sent them an email and told them that I would not watch that program.
I received a response that my email was forwarded to the production manager.
@74 CCH: I don’t know how it is in AK, but in CA you don’t pay child support to the court, you pay it to the custodial parent. The reasoning is, obviously, why involve a third-party bureaucracy? Now, if you get your wages garnisheed, that’s obviously a different matter, but that’s also a relatively rare case.
And, the court doesn’t usually care how the payments get made, as long as they’re on time. It is the responsibility of the payer to make sure the payments happen, so if Levi were actually requiring Bristol to pick up the check, she could easily get a modification that would require him to do it by EFT.
