Just imagine McCain/Palin’s plan of building 80 new nuclear plants with the Republican’s Party track record of no oversight or regulation. That would have surely become the end of life on our planet.

      Naomi Klein:

So what was Sarah Palin telling us about capitalism-as-usual before she was so rudely interrupted by the meltdown? Let’s first recall that before she came along, the U.S. public, at long last, was starting to come to grips with the urgency of the climate crisis, with the fact that our economic activity is at war with the planet, that radical change is needed immediately. We were actually having that conversation: Polar bears were on the cover of Newsweek magazine. And then in walked Sarah Palin. The core of her message was this: Those environmentalists, those liberals, those do-gooders are all wrong. You don’t have to change anything. You don’t have to rethink anything. Keep driving your gas-guzzling car, keep going to Wal-Mart and shop all you want. The reason for that is a magical place called Alaska. Just come up here and take all you want. “Americans,” she said at the Republican National Convention, “we need to produce more of our own oil and gas. Take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska, we’ve got lots of both.”

And the crowd at the convention responded by chanting and chanting: “Drill, baby, drill.”

Watching that scene on television, with that weird creepy mixture of sex and oil and jingoism, I remember thinking: “Wow, the RNC has turned into a rally in favor of screwing Planet Earth.” Literally.

        aussiegal77No Gravatar says:

She kinda misses the point about “clinging to religion”. The whole point of that comment was that “religion” was more important to some people than compassion on their fellow Americans. That “religion” and “traditions” were more important than loving your neighbour as yourself. Essentially, Palin has no real idea about the teachings of Jesus because she really doesn’t have an authentic relationship with Him. Using Jesus and the Bible like some kind of political prop is not bringing glory to the name of God. Also too, clinging to guns doesn’t prove anything other than:

        1. You have guns and you are very attached to them and
        2. You seem to be afraid of something….hence the clinging to your guns…

Jesus said it best when he was rebuking the Pharisees, which Palin is increasingly similar to.

        Matthew 15:1-20

Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.

You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” He answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

But Peter said to him,”Explain the parable to us.” And he said, “Are you also still without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”

    aussiegal77No Gravatar says:

I posted this above but I wanted to make 2 more points that is relevant to this passage from Matthew 15 and my understanding of Palin in particular:

    1) Notice how Jesus calls the Pharisees “blind guides” when the disciples told Him that they were offended by His teaching of not worshipping traditions/religious ritual ABOVE God. Palin is indeed a blind guide to a lot of people and I really wish they would heed Jesus when he said “Let them alone, they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

    2) Notice how in Isaiah, the prophet condemn God’s people that their “hearts are far from Him” and that they “worship Him in vain” because they are “teaching as doctrines the commandments of men”. How long will Palin perverse the Word of God by lumping the Scriptures and the Constitution into one big holy writ? Not all of man’s laws are bad but they are NOT biblical doctrine and shouldn’t be treated as such.

There is a very good reason for Jesus to rebuke the Pharisees in such strong language – because He knew that it was easier for people to set down rules and regulations to be pious over than to search their own hearts before God and be critical of themselves and their own behaviour. He knew that the Pharisees used the Law of Moses to lord it over the people that they are SUPPOSED to be leading. They were judgemental and heartless people.

    Remind you of anyone?

AussieGal77 – true! The truth has been there all along staring the church in the face all these centuries, and those ambitious ruthless men of the cloth refused to see it. Now, political men/women claiming they are spiritual who wish to serve mammon (in politics) and push their idealogy on the masses think they are clever. But, It eventually leads to corruption. Besides, to me, Jesus doesn’t want someone forced to love him, he wants men to choose individually.

I don’t know Palin’s spiritual intent or heart, but by her actions, she seems to be exploiting God for her personal use. Throw a few endearing comments about praying with her child, her need for prayer covering, yet no mention of repentence, regret, no admittance to failure, no humility to speak about her frailties. Hypocrisy in speaking engagements at $100,000 or similar, at charity drives for right-to-life or women’s centers (tonight), talking about her baby with Down Syndrome.
Why do these foundations, charities find it acceptable to pay one woman with this experience above all the other women who have similar stories. It bugs me that our society places to much celebrity emphasis on exploiters and pay them to talk about what – I have a DS child. I had a pregnant teen. Like no other families have trials and tribulations? They give of themselves without cost or reward. I am so tired of this lame practice of paying people like her to speak for an hour at an outrageous cost. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all speak for that amount and talk about our problems?

Sorry, this started to be a Yes, Amen, and it turned into my rant.

Rant away! Believe me, I am just as frustrated about her obvious fraud.

And here’s the thing – fine, if these organisations want to throw $100k her way just to hear her speak but can she at least show up prepared? She earns a whopping pay check for each appearance and she just recycles the speeches! At the Tea Party convention she was so under prepared, she wrote on her hands! I mean, come on. The questions are already pre-screened and softball and yet she can’t put in a few hours to prepare for them? She’s gotta pull the last minute stunt of writing stuff on her hand cuz she couldn’t be bothered to remember a couple of points to EARN that $100k?

Honestly, I just feel sorry for the people who are paying her their hard earned money, in this economy, it is really a waste.

Back to you! That hand-writing thing has me wondering if she didn’t just plan that, planned it in advance. Put the dark marker writing on the hand, where obviously it would show as her hands were moving around. Could it be just a charade? it’s to extract the most amount of attention and news analysis for weeks. Also it could have been done because she wants to portray herself as poor man versus rich man (President Obama). Portray herself as just another good hot hard-lovin’ woman who doesn’t care about convention. It was a little “rogue” act to get the masses all wee-weed up! Wow, I’m on a roll.

Just caught up on the Rachel Maddow Show and heavens, what a rivetting interview she had with the President of FAIR, Dan Stein, – the group that helped drafted that awful AZ Immigration bill.

I think Stein was caught unprepared because Rachel – unlike most other journalists – actually had facts to back up her hard hitting questions.

    His main arguments were:
    - Rachel is unfair to attribute guilt by association just because one of the founding members (who is still on the board of Directors) held racist views, one of its employees held racist views and several others that Rachel points out (It’s not guilt by association – it’s called you hire and allow racists to be a part of your organization).
    - Papers and memos written by someone and archived in a university library are private (No, it isn’t, they are public documents if you archive them in a PUBLIC LIBRARY).
    - Rachel attributing the documented views of several of FAIR’s members to the group itself is……McCarthyism (No it isn’t, it’s called the FACTS).
    - He also accused Rachel and her team of not getting their own facts (even though she brought up many examples of independent sources) and that she was just repeating talking points from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

I think Rachel held her own and stuck to her guns whilst Stein talked over her any chance he got and wouldn’t let her finish asking her question.

Also, he was very rude at the end, telling Rachel that she was wasting his time when she actually gave him a lot of chances to answer to the clear disconnect between FAIR promoting itself as a moderate group and the racists among the organization. He never answered her questions, just kept barking about how it was unfair she was even asking the question and that the show was smearing his organization.

And oh, apparently, according to Stein – if your racist white separatist views were held 20 sum years ago, then by 2010, they are not relevant!

Yay for statute of limitations on racism!

That clip really burns me! I commend Rachel trying to keep at Mr. Stein to get him to comment on her questions. He just kept denying and lying and disgusting the He// out me. She is a stronger woman than I am. I did like it when at one point he would not stop talking over Rachel and she balled up her fists and said “eerrrrrrg.” Stein is racist donkey’s butt.

I have to say, as much as I like Rachel, that this interview was not a good one. She should have offered him a chance to explain what his spin is on what they do. Then start nailing him. She came out hitting and gave hime a defensible position.

Too bad. Its better when they prove they are jack a$$es on their own.

regarding our favorite Queen of Quit

snip] This is not about politics. It’s about judgment and about respecting the rights of an individual citizen. There is surely nothing more objectionable than a politician attempting to confiscate that which you own, without any legal basis for doing so, but only because that politician wants something you have. This is not an example of something Palin did due to ignorance or lack of education. This was a fundamental error in judgment, or worse, an attitude that she could do whatever she wanted regardless of the rights of another person. [end snip

Oh, the hypocrisy! For once, I wish the Federal Govt would say NO! The repubs go on and on about state’s rights and how the states can take care of themselves – big govt stay out of our business!…alrighty then. Why is it that when an oil spill happens or a hurricane occurs, a state of emergency is declared and they want the Federal Govt it give them a ‘bailout’? Don’t they see the similarities? I’m not being harsh, I really feel for the states affected by this tragedy (mostly the wildlife) but I also wish a lesson can be taught here.

btw, no verdict yet in the ms yappy mouth trial…in my opinion, it does not look good for this kid. I hope her conscience eats her alive! oh yeah, she doesn’t have one! well, maybe some Karma will kick in…one can only hope…and what is it waiting for?!

    Happy Friday everyone!

      This sentence sent chills up my spine;

“She is a symbolic, iconic figure – and her support comes from non-rational identity politics in a time of economic distress and great social change.”

Can we ever break this demagoguery?

OK mudflatters, (from Alaska and beyond!) it is time we take action. Contrary to what the Administration is saying, Shell and Conoco are continuing ahead with drilling in the Chukchi and Arctic seas this spring/summer. They are not slowing down, they are not stopping until we have a better understanding about what happened in the Gulf and how to prevent it from happening off the coast of Alaska. Shell and Conoco will be conducting deep sea drilling off the coast of Alaska, just like BP in the Gulf of Mexico. There is no one stopping them; not our Governor, not our Congressional delegation, not our President.

Seems the only thing that has any hope of stopping them is common sense loving folks like you and me. We know what happens when oil coats our shores! and it ain’t pretty. Just imagine the “Deadliest Catch” fishing in oil filled waters and pulling up oiled crab.
Find every blog you can and start the public opinion outcry to stop drilling in the Chukchi and Arctic now. Go forth and multiply those blog postings!

KNOXVILLE — A federal jury this afternoon convicted Sarah Palin e-mail intruder David C. Kernell of felony destruction of records to hamper a federal investigation and misdemeanor unlawfully obtaining information from a protected computer.

The jury acquitted Kernell, 22, of wire fraud.

It remains deadlocked on felony identity theft.

It’s unclear if U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Phillips will order the jurors, in their fourth day of deliberations, to continue.

    Health care Story.
I saw this story on our local News last night. Remember the 39% Rate Hikes Anthem Blue Cross wanted when the Health care debate was going on..?

“California Insurer Drops Rate Hikes After Errors Are Found ”
“Now it turns out the Anthem hikes were a big mistake, literally. Anthem Blue Cross, a unit of insurance giant WellPoint, is canceling the increases, which it had previously postponed, after independent actuaries hired by the state’s insurance commissioner found the company’s rationale was riddled with errors.”

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2010/04/california_insurer_drops_rate.html

I have read some other stories out there saying they may still go up 15%, which is still too much as well.

“Correcting the flaws could drop the rate hikes to an average of 15%, the outside analyst said in a report.”
