$arah is like Cheney, dead wrong on everything. The extent to which she acts as if the spill has not occurred and/or if she pretends drilling is safe, will give us an idea of how dishonest and/or delusional, she is.

I was for bridge to nowhere, before I was against it. But I kept the money anyway. What’s wrong with that?

$arah can you tell us what is wrong with advocating drilling every conceivable square inch of this planet for oil in lieu of this massive spill that is polluting thousands of miles of coastal wetland and beaches? In what respect Charlie? (wink, wink).

And as far as Obama opening more off shore drilling less than a month ago and especially in the Arctic Seas….. shame on you and your political triangulation, Barak Obama. As Micheal Moore might say, grow a spine, Mr. President.

“With her email hacker convicted, can we focus on the fact that Palin used her personal email to illegally conduct government business?” by cy99maddux @ reddit
    *************************************************************************************************

“After literally zero research, David Kernell guessed “Wasilla High,” and had access to Palin’s email. Yes, the governor of Alaska’s email was that easy to hack. Is that even considered hacking — figuring out a rube’s password?

Meh, apparently it is, and now Kernell is probably headed to the slammer. Palin put the whole situation in perspective on facebook, of course.

“My family and I are thankful that the jury thoroughly and carefully weighed the evidence and issued a just verdict. Besides the obvious invasion of privacy and security concerns surrounding this issue, many of us are concerned about the integrity of our country’s political elections. America’s elections depend upon fair competition. Violating the law, or simply invading someone’s privacy for political gain, has long been repugnant to Americans’ sense of fair play. As Watergate taught us, we rightfully reject illegally breaking into candidates’ private communications for political intrigue in an attempt to derail an election.”

Right, because no one knew that breaking into candidates’ communications was bad before Nixon. That said, is it fair to compare some stupid kid guessing a retard’s password hint to a break-in of Democratic Party headquarters that the President of the United States knew about? Of course not. But hey, shock of shocks, Sarah Palin has no perspective on life or history.

Let us not forget that she also has no perspective on legality. While yes, it was bad of a 20-year-old college student to figure out her easily-figured-out password, one thing that shouldn’t be forgotten is that because of that intrusion, we learned that Palin was using her personal email to illegally conduct government business.”

What about those oil-eating bacteria I heard about one time? I hope they are using them. I have a hard time following the news on the spill because I cannot tolerate the pictures of the animals in my head for days on end. Even the crabs and shrimp; they are saying will suffer the worst because they can’t outrun the oil. I can’t bear it.

    Speaking of bears…….(watch this segue!)

We (my little town) have a bear cub in a tree. I know, not HUGE news, but that also means that there is a momma bear running around where houses are. And I also read that there is a moose headed east. They are warning people to be alert of a moose on the loose. Historically around here, if we get a moose, it ends up near a cow farm.

Actually, that’s not quite as crazy as you might think. A friend of mine used to work in animal rehab, specifically with rescued birds on Long Island. The standard material used to de-grease birds that were covered in oil was Dawn dishwashing liquid. For some reason, the ingredients in that particular brand were tough enough to cut the grease well but mild enough to do minimal damage to the bird.

Of course, I doubt that spilling gallons of it into the Gulf would be a spiffy idea…probably just make everything oily AND bubbly!

The sightings of black bears have become much more frequent in Western NY over the past few years. They used to only be seen in the Southern Tier, but the population is growing and they’re moving further and further north, especially the young males who are looking for unclaimed territory. I live in a suburb of Rochester right on Lake Ontario and we’ve already had at least one juvenile bear spotted this year in my town. Last spring there was one up a tree about 3 miles from my house and right on the border of the city, just down the street from the main manufacturing complex of Kodak.

We’re also seeing more coyotes, some right in the city, and a friend of mine spotted one on the next block, which is only about 2 miles from me. Sadly, there are no moose around here…yet… but the population has been increasing in the Adirondacks so maybe someday…

thatcrowwoman – You spoke for me also, too……The Mudflats are the finest friends who brighten my day and preserve my sanity in this insane world. It becomes harder and harder to hold conversations with friends and neighbors as the lies and distortions against POTUS continue to abound. I’ve had several remind me that if something is repeated often enough, there must be truth to it……but not in this case yet I cannot convince them to research for themselves. My b/law is openly racist, thinks nothing of hiring Mexican laborers for a pittance, refuses to listen to any but FOX, and reads only Murdoch-empire publications. I sent the link to the article of those Facebook posters who are praying for President Obama’s death, and that I found it disgusting that FB has allowed it to stay. His response to me was that he isn’t praying for Obama’s death, but that the Dem’s Marxist rule would fail. I gave him credit for being much more intelligent than what he appears to be. Although we stereotype the typical Palin follower/Teabagger as semi-literate, low-income, Redneck, etc., they ALL are NOT. There are many on the right with great intellect and education, but are so close-minded and holier-than-thou, that I am communicating with many of these people less and less. So once I can say – thank God for The Mudflats!

Sarah has been bringing up the election and the supposedly negative effect the Kernell case has had on it. I would not be a bit surprised if within the next few months, some group on her behalf files a legal challenge to the validity of the election. I doubt it would attain any success, other than to put doubts in people’s minds. Look at how the rumors of malfeasance on ACORN devastated and destroyed that organization. With the ever-growing rage against Obama and the government, it would be one more challenge for the administration to have to deal with. I hope it never comes to pass, but the continual references to it have got me thinking that is where she’s heading with this.

Very rainy with high winds and tornado warnings here in SW KY. If necessary, we’ll take the pooches and head for the basement, but it is a damp and dark space with too many corners for crawling critters to hide out, so I’ll resist going down there until the last minute!

Thank you all for this wonderful family and allowing me to share in it – happy weekend to all!

      thatcrowwomanNo Gravatar says:

Well, Renegade 80, here’s (most of) the story.

I am of the tribe of Abraham, the people of the book. My “Jewessness” is neither orthodox nor conservative, but it IS at the heart and soul of my being. I have lived and worked and studied and played and prayed among many tribes, many peoples. I have taken many diverse folks and customs and traditions and songs and stories into my heart as my own, so I fit lots of things into “my religion.”

I’m also one of those folks who, when asked to declare my race, check the “other” box and write in “human.” One World. One Family. We’re all in this together, though I do wish our wing-nut cousins would shape up or ship out!

I have flown in my dreams for as long as I can remember, and have dreamed my crow totem since the early 1970s. I have embraced my many crow tendencies…crows often mate for life, watch out for the flock, are often clever and fairly intelligent (just sayin’), are omnivorous, not particularly modest, somewhat prideful, and collect all manner of stuff (just ask Happy!), not only the shiny, sparkly stuff…

      Does that help?
Thanks for your kind words; your delight delights me, also, too.

Goodness knows there’s plenty of suffering and sorrow in our world. We all have our own unique beliefs and experiences and talents and strengths and challenges and gifts. If we all let our little lights shine, so much the better. That’s why we’re here, in my book.

It is always a joy to read your posts and I can’t agree more with “If we all let our little lights shine, so much the better”.

One of the things I find most special about working with small children (mostly 5-8 yr olds) is that they don’t dwell on differences, and they manage to find happiness in the most seemingly insignificant things. They constantly remind me to look for the good, revel in the simple, and find fun in everything as often as possible. Anyone who can get excited about a sticker even this late in the school year has clearly learned to Embrace the Merriment. I must admit that, I too, am deeply honored when one of my munchkins chooses to generously bestow on me a sticker they’ve earned somewhere else!

They do, of course, also give me LOTS of gray hairs and repeated bouts of bronchitis (nasal hygiene is still a foreign concept to most of them!), but I find those a small price to pay for all the other good ‘stuff’ I get from being around them. When I walk into a kindergarten room and at least half the kids actually clap and enthusiastically yell, “Yayy!” (much to the frustration of their classroom teacher!), it makes for a good day!

        Have a joyous Sabbath!

And I think of Sarah the mother of a son she boosted of with patriotic glee when he was in the Army. Of course there was nothing patriotic about Sarah’s son’s enlistment. I’m at a loss to see any Christian grace from Sarah Palin. As the victims Sarah did have a lot of input and influence with the prosecutors. Sarah as mother that has seen her own troubles with hers kids, she shows no sign of identifying with the Kernell parents .

Recently, In Salt Lake City the tragic death of two young girls occurred when an exterminator put a toxic substance too close to the house. The fumes migrated to the house and the two youngest children died. The toxin was used incorrectly and the State is pressing charges against the exterminator for the death of these children.

The parents showed grace asked for forgiveness for the man and asked for leniency.

Palin, on the other hand, (in a case where no one died or was harmed) looks like she is enjoying the destruction of the young man’s life. She was certainly enjoying being in the spotlight during the trial. She looked like she was “glowing” when she would exit the courtroom to speak to the press.

He requested a meeting since he was spending the weekend nearby in Asheville. My son Franklin and I enjoyed a brief visit with the President, followed by a time of prayer together.”

Mr Graham added: “As we approach the National Day of Prayer on May 6, I want to encourage Christians everywhere to pray for our President, and for all those in positions of authority, and especially for the men and women serving in our military.” ”

I just read an excellent article on Palin’s attitude to President Obama and oil. It is well worth a read. Here is a sample.

“Throughout the 2008 campaign Palin and McCain advocated the need for more off-shore drilling, by saying, “Drill Baby Drill”. Even when the President indicated that he would consider the authorization of additional drilling, after environmental studies had been conducted, Palin was still critical. Let me repeat…Palin was critical of the President’s concern for the environment. At that time Palin suggested by her comments that Obama’s plan was a joke. http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/sarah-palin-explains-why-the-new-offshore-drilling-plans-are-a-joke-459634.html?tickers=xom,xle,cvx,rdsa,cop,spy,dia

    Palin explained:

“…Delays or major restrictions in accessing these resources for environmentally responsible development are not in the national interest… (I removed a link to a certain site here, but it can be found on Malia’s blog – Irishgirl).

“I’ve seen plenty of such studies. What we need is action.” http://governorpalin4president.blogspot.com/2010/03/sarah-palin-op-ed-obama-drilling-farce.html

      Me too.

I didn’t realise that you are a relatively new transplant to the US. I want to follow up on your links to Katrina that you posted last night as well.

I’m in a bit of a haze today. As I was posting last night, my son was having an 18th birthday party in the house! Imagine the stress of feeding 50 or so teenagers. Plus, deep down you know there is going to be alcohol involved. Thankfully, they were a lovely bunch of teenagers. It all ended well, “but me nerves are shot.”

I wonder if your nerves are shot because YOU had more than a ‘shot glass’ during the party? :-)

My (one) son actually has an 18th birthday coming up in less than 2 months, and I haven’t a clue what to do. Co-incidentally I was asking that very question at work yesterday, and nobody had any ideas. I am not a party person and neither is he – and he really doesn’t have that many friends. Also, I haven’t a clue what young adults do to entertain themselves. {See, I was never ‘young’ : ) } so I’m stumped. He is currently on an exchange program in France (home in two weeks) and I’m toying with the idea of pretending that was his birthday present just to avoid admitting that I haven’t any brilliant ideas. Except that I feel somewhat guilty. We are not really a big birthday celebrating family, but even I admit to myself that this is an important one.

When Littlebird turned 18, we paid for her passport and set her up with her own checking-savings accounts and debit-credit card and some spending money for her summer Birthright trip to Israel. Birthright pays for Jewish young adults to fly from NYC to Israel and back, plus room and board and activities for the 2+ week visit. (DH Happy and I could only afford it because all we had to pay for was her transportation to and from NYC and some walking around money. We struggle to maintain barely middle class status, but are wealthy in so many non-monetary ways. Public school teachers/librarians don’t expect to get “rich,” but a living wage would be nice…

Littlebird’s favo(u)rite “grown-up” birthday/Chanukah presents have been pairs of concert tickets, so she can share a show with a friend of her own choosing. She saw John Mayer one year, and Bob Dylan (among many other great acts) at JazzFest in New Orleans…

We lived through a direct hit from a terrible hurricane some years back and know that all our “stuff” can disappear overnight, but Experiences are part of us that nothing can take away… we can keep them in our hearts and minds forever… Those “experiences” make great gifts for coming-of-age young ones.

Mazel tov, Irishgirl, and hungry, thirsty son and his friends! You sound like a World Class “Mum” to me.

So what is the legal drinking age in Ireland? When I was growing up, if we were old enough to be drafted (18), we were old enough to drink. Nowadays, 18 is old enough to go to war, but you must be 21 to drink…legally. Littlebird has been allowed to sip wine as part of Shabbos ritual (along with lighting the candles) since she was old enough to hold the Kiddush cup. Never had any problems with her playing with matches or abusing alcohol, and don’t anticipate any, as she has a healthy respect for both fire and “fire water,” unlike some 20 year olds from more restricted backgrounds. None of the allure of “forbidden fruit” I suppose…

You’ll sleep well and have sweet dreams tonight, I betcha! :)

Eighteen is the legal age here for drinking. However, most pubs won’t serve them.

Had an interesting discussion with my 19 yr old tonight regarding birthdays. In the past, celebrating your 21st was a big “dill.” 19 yr old informed me that that was American thinking. 21 is the age when you can legally drink in the US.

The new thing craze here is the 18th. I have two of them under my belt.

So here goes the definition, from the woman who is selling hate to the american public

a person paid to endorse a product favourably, while pretending to be impartial; An accomplice at a confidence trick during an auction or gambling game; To promote or endorse in return for payment, especially dishonestly; To put under cover; to sheal

Okay, someone please explain to me how the Republicans think they’re going to win back all those seats in Washington this fall when their priorities are so clearly skewed.

We’re just starting to come out of one of the worst economic disasters since the Great Depression. Unemployment is still at double digits. We’re facing one of the worst environmental disasters in modern history and can look forward to damage that will haunt the Gulf coast for decades. We’re mired in two unwinnable wars and the overuse of antibiotics may be creating a whole new generation of as-yet unstoppable bacterias. The ice sheets are melting and climate change threatens to put many of the world’s largest cities under water.

And THIS is what the Republicans are doing:

    1. The Florida GOP is auctioning off a painting of Charlie Crist that had been commissioned for the organization’s headquarters. All other traces of Crist started being removed hours after he announced that he was running as an independent. (Very mature reaction, folks.)

    2. Virginia’s AG Ken Cuccinelli has followed up his most recent efforts to rescind state policies that discriminate against gays and initiate a suit against the Federal gov’t for the health care reform bill. Apparently, he has now decided that the VA state seal is obscene. The seal, which was designed by George Wythe, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and adopted in 1776, shows a Roman goddess whose left breast is exposed. Cuccinelli recently passed out buttons to his staff with the state seal revised to cover her chest with an armored breastplate. (Seriously??? THIS is the most pressing issue facing Virginia???)

The Republicans have done nothing but stall and obstruct any and all legislative progress, even that which they had previously supported. They’ve consistently put big business and their own financial and political security before the well-being of the American public and the environment. And Boehner thinks the Republicans can pick up 100 seats in the House this fall. Really?????? Are there really that many stupid people in this country????

(Yeah, I know, Dubya got two terms…there really ARE that many stupid people, but I would sincerely hope they learned SOMEthing from the past White House disaster!)
