Slightly off-topic I suppose, but had to share this link cited at the “Wait, wait, don’t tell me” radio show’s web site: http://www.hottoys.com.hk/index.php?target=products&product_id=509

    Ah, capitalism.

I agree…I think Obama knocked him off his game a little. Obama was brilliant!

Maybe it was that line about Jay’s approval ratings being so low… that HAD to hurt! (First time I ever saw Jay’s hair mussed…. maybe he’s not used to being up so early?

        LOVED the ‘predator drones’ remark!

You betcha. It wasn’t a “tough room.” Jay just wasn’t much funny, but kind of $arah-scattered-whiny-ugly-card-reading bordering on mean. I couldn’t watch his whole thing.

Our President, on the other hand…
wait, not the “poor man’s teleprompter”…

Our President had me laughing out loud and what a powerful wrap-up…

        LaineyNo Gravatar says:

yeah, Jay was on the fringe of being mean! I did not like that video of Michelle & Obama split screen, with her talking about her childhood obesity campaign and Obama eating and eating and eating…for God’s sake, he’s entitled to have a sandwich!

    LaurieNo Gravatar says:

I used to like Leno. To me, it seemed like he spent only about an hour preparing his material. He used too much video to go along with his lame jokes. Maybe this is the best he can do on his own without the writers on his show. The president has writers too, but even his delivery was better than Leno’s.

Agreed that Leno has stayed his welcome. Might be a good time for him to retire and move wherever non-funny comedian/talk show hosts go…

Me too! Our President is funny, silly, kind, loving, smart, thoughtful, caring….oh, I could go on and on, but may run out of words to describe how I feel. WAIT, I know – I LOVE my president, just like Red Dirt :)

Your president was very funny, a real natural. I love it when he laughs at his own jokes. Jay, on the other hand had me cringing and I couldn’t watch the whole thing. He was reading his jokes off cards! And, no one was laughing. That was so embarrasing.

      B in CoNo Gravatar says:

I love when he smiles at his own jokes too! It makes everyone laugh even more.
My favorite joke had to be the McCain joke about not being a “Maverick” anymore. When the President said “Adios Amigo” I couldn’t stop laughing. Turning that law around on McCain was genius. Also all the “birther” nonsense. He just makes them look like the fools that they are.

One of the great things about having a community like this is that one can share the service of our many censors, if one chooses. I so chose, and thus avoided the Leno bit . I didn’t even wait for him to come to the mike. : ) I thoroughly enjoyed the Prez though, and I can’t seem to help myself, whenever he chuckles, I chuckle too. ‘Y’all’ have the best president – May he be given the opportunity to serve two full terms!

By the way, here is a site that provides an excellent recap of the President’s university speech WITH lovely pictures – well worth a peek:

Leno should have seen it coming. He had Sarah Palin on his first week back. Not saying Leno wasn’t already heading down, but Sarah’s toxic touch withered the rest of his career. She just has that way about her. He should have known. We who have been following her hop, skip and jump into oblivion knew this was inevitable. One of these days soon, it may be her turn to be a has-been no one listens to or cares much about.

Thank every star and bright shining good thing in the world that we have President Obama to guide us through the miserable legacy of Bush-Cheney. I think President Obama gives us more than hope, he can make us smile, laugh and feel good which in turn gives us strength to carry on. I agree with everyone here: how lucky we are!

Here’s hoping we can carry this feeling with us through the upcoming week.

I was getting a wee bit jealous about you all talking about “our president.” The Irish however have a stake in him as well. I’m sure you have all seen this loads of times, but it never fails to make me smile.

    It’s not TV. It’s a live speech.

Leno should not have used any visuals at all. It all should have been script material like Obama.

Jay was totally off his game. He didn’t even call it in. Did he not want to do this? Was something said to him right before he went on? It was like he just wanted to hurry up and get it over with. His timing and delivery were just awful.

    seattlefanNo Gravatar says:

The President’s tone was just right and he was hilarious and charming to boot. Leno just sucked. No nice way to put it.

Irishgirl….I love that video. I saw it during the campaign and had forgotten about it. I’m half Irish so I join you in your pride. :)

    luckycharmsNo Gravatar says:

Wow. Leno was cringe-inducing. I sort of felt bad for him right at the end when he said it was the best job he’d ever had in his life…. but then I didn’t. Because he sucked. He obviously didn’t prepare, relying on stupid video clips to be “funny” for him. Which they weren’t. All in all – Epic Fail!

The president was really good… love his deadpan delivery. Could only listen to a little of Leno, bleh.

Did any of you notice who “wrote” the Politico “article” dated July 3, 1776? Helen Thomas. Didn’t think she was that old, LOL. Also, in that issue, the Liberty Bell was recalled, Continental Congress to investigate. (10:06 mark)

I don’t know of anyone who has a big smile that is more contagious than President Obama’s. You have to smile back. Jay was really bad and hard to watch. It’s as if he had never seen his material before and, as several have mentioned, the film clips were lame and recycled too, also.
