Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Keith Olbermann Calls Lisa Murkowski a Slick Operator

A great segment from Keith Olbermann featuring Alaska’s own Senator Lisa Murkowski getting dressed down by Senator Bob Menendez from New Jersey. Also featured is Mike Mason, BP whistleblower who revealed that tests of blowout preventers have been routinely falsified for years.

Mike Mason will also appear on this week’s Moore Up North as the featured interview.  I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mason this evening at the taping and was able to thank him personally for his courage, and willingness to speak up about this issue.

You’ll be able to get a sneak preview of the interview here at The Mudflats which should be up some time tomorrow.

You can tell BP doesn’t know how to stop the hemorrhaging. They are trying every random thing.

I’d like to see Lisa “bug eyes” go to the affected parishes in LA and peddle her bull sh!t to the affected people. Maybe then she’d get a clue.

Thank you to the brave whistle blower.

I think we’re going to see what a lot of our politicians are made of. I’m glad to see some of the west coast senators moving to prohibit off-shore drilling on the west coast. Too bad that didn’t happen in the gulf.

Any word whether Pres. Obama is going to walk back that oil exploration statement of a month or so ago?

I’ve never liked the idea of off-shore drilling, and this whole thing makes me sick.

Just sucks that it takes Senators from somewhere else to speak truth to power for Alaska. I’m disappointed that Begich was not mentioned in Keith’s segment and has yet to comment on Murkowski’s performance today.

It takes a lot of courage to be a whistleblower in this state against any corporation with power, because they will get agencies and prosecutors to come after you with false accusations. I salute Mr. Mason and I am glad someone with enough character to tell the truth is being put forward in the news media. We need more examples of people like him. A lot of whistleblowers in Alaska have been harmed, including myself. Mr. Mason was under surveilance and harrassed. I will bet he had death threats. That is one of the tactics they use, it was used against me also. The legislators in this state ignore people who try to report problems with a multitude of excuses. They tell everyone the person complaining is just lying, crazy, and a trouble maker. I am looking forward to the interview on Moore Up North.

Once again — ‘scuse me, “Mom and Pop” oil drillers? Can she name one? In Alaska? Who in tarnation is she representing?

oh, sorry, we have already answered that question.

Mom and pop oil drillers? Can’t wait for what comes next, Sean Parnell saying we have to cut more taxes on the “Mom and Pop” cruise ship lines or maybe maybe making it easier for the “mom and pop” conglomerate to dig the Pebble mine. Someone in the Alaska media with some stones needs to back her into a corner and get her to name these mom and pop companies. Facts, Lisa, give us facts, not anecdotes. And the one thing that caught my ear during Mr Masons interview with Keith was when Keith asked him if any politicians in Alaska had spoken to him about the false testing by BP of the blowout mechanisms. He said none. Oh, Senator Begich, that’s your cue. We are counting to you to stand up for us when Lisa and Don are standing up for the “mom and pop” oil drillers.

Could the Mom and Pop Oil Drillers be the couple that Sarah stayed with in Texas? The ones that have ties to Alaska Oil. I read something on Palingates several weeks ago.

Seems like she has always managed to keep herself under the radar, not alot of controversy. Is this what they mean by ” jumping the shark?” Just a little too obvious this time, no question who she really represents.
With one “I object” she has given those running against her all the amunition they need.

BP’s chief executive Tony Hayward said he felt under no pressure to stand down…. this in response to his recent statement saying, “The Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean. The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is tiny in relation to the total water volume.”

That’s right folks, the spill is nothing to these people, all that matters is the payoff they personally receive.

President Obama, has “NOT” put a moratorium on offshore drilling as he promised to do until the risk is assessed and mistakes corrected. The New York Times is reporting today that the Minerals Management Agency has issued 27 more offshore drilling permits, one of them to BP. All of them, exempt from environmental impact assessment studies. Four of them where issued after Interior Secretary Salazar said none would be issued.

It’s another shame on you Barack Obama moment. Telling the people one thing, and doing the opposite behind closed doors.

I have always opposed offshore drilling. The only president who had an energy policy I agreed with was Jimmy Carter, and it’s one of the things that brought us the ReaganBushClintonBush debacle of deregulation and low/no taxes for the wealthy that followed Carter. When I expressed horror in Sydney to three gents “on leave” from their oil rig that Oz was allowing offshore drilling in the most pristine ocean water on Earth, I was laughed at. A few months after I got home to NYC, there was a huge spill that wiped out most of the fairy penguin (little blue) population in NZ. Alaskans, I beg of you: vote out that bug-eyed braindead woman in your next election!

    Health and peace.

Won’t happen. Where is a viable canidate to oppose her? Check out Frank Vandasaar’s web site and tell me you think he would be an improvement. The best an opponent could hope for is to draw enough votes to get her attention.

I just had a chilling thought. I can’t get past the concept that all the republicans would be for the raising of the cap and only one dissented. I then thought what if she did this as the fall guy. Maybe she doesn’t want to be elected this fall and in return for a nice payoff check she blocked the motion. This way all the other repugnants could look all pro-environmenty and win over votes.

Bleck! I must stop looking at the dark side.

It is very plausible that it had been agreed Murkowski would be the one to object. It sure didn’t hurt her politically in Alaska when she opposed EPA regulation of carbon emissions.

Raising the cap….it is laughable for anyone to object.

This country will continue its decline until there is no more money in elections.
Only public financing of elections will change this country in any substantive way.

In an effort to get some real conservatism in our legislatures, with the root word of CONSERVE (and not in meaning to protect the wealthy’s domination from from paying their fair share of taxes and responsibility), I would like to advocate for the tenants of the Green Party. It is more conservative than even the other two dominant ones can imagine…putting the planet, it’s inhabitants, and systems ahead of money, power, and empire. It’s time has come…and it’s roots go back to indigenous peoples who figured out how to control their societies and environments before white man intruded, and became the basis of our own tripartite government. Unfortunately we evolved into a pluto-oiligarchic disaster state, that needs to be replaced, NOW…start by voting out all incumbents, and begin anew.

    Partly on-topic:
I think that Lisa M is attractive facially, far more so than Sarah P. Better facial structure, better hairdo. Better plastic surgery. Also seems to dress better.

How did Sarah ever get the reputation for being good-looking — because she likes to wear short skirts and show her legs when sitting on stage?

In her teens and twenties she was horsy, chunky, and coarse-featured. Now her face is ugly, her hook nose is unattractive, and her rat’s-nest hairdo/wig is comical. She relies on her eyeglasses as a fashion accessory, and needs an army of make-up people and hairstylists just to make herself presentable. She’s a shrimp who needs high heels and bumpits to look semi-normal. Her fashion sense is terrible. The candid pix from the Hawaii vacation show her to be a genuine hag when left to her own devices.

So why do people go along with the myth of her beauty? She is as attractive as she is honest, magnanimous, educated, and well-informed.

If embarassment is even possible for a Republican to experience, Murkowski looked a wee bit uncomfortable, even hesitant, making her initial call for an “objection.” In the belief that she has a heart despite her GOP affiliation, I’ve tried to give here the benefit of the doubt. She has just lost that benefit as well as my respect. Shame on you, Lisa.
