Oops, should be “Come on”, not come one. But every one vote is good, too! And special thanks to Justafarmer and Mrs. Tarquin Biscuitbarrel for helping Ian settle into his summer internship. You all are the best, and I’m sure Ian will repay us with his dedication to human rights.
Has Mayor Sullivan’s face appeared on flags of dog poo yet? Any organized picketing of his bar? Just wonderin’. Geez I would go nuts if we had politicians like that where I live. Oh yeah, we could end up with the likes of Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, and Orly Tates. Now that’s the trifecta of stupidity for sure.
I meant “…in dog poo…” That was one of the oddest and funniest forms of protest I had ever heard. Wasn’t it Don Young’s face that was appearing on flags in dog piles? I have to say that Alaskans are very creative.
Also Frank Murkowski. The dog poo flags as far as I know are unique to Juneau. But perhaps someone in Anchorage will be inspired… Can’t think of a better person to start the tradition.
He is sooooooo right, when he says, “I consider myself a youth advocate-fighting for a generation that’s inheriting a world of problems.”
Yes—the world is snowballing with problems. It will take our youth to turn it around.
From my church’s website. This is their mission statement:
To become more like Jesus Christ, reaching out to the community empowering Youth with the Christian compassion and wisdom of Seniors and empowering Seniors with the love and energy of Youth.
Funnily enough, I’m the atheist sitting in the pew who’s been asked to run for vestry a few times (I’ve politely declined, as I don’t think that would be an honourable thing for me to do, regardless of the outcome). But at least this particular branch of christianity is moving away from the “All men are created equal; some are more equal than others” mindset. Yes, I shamelessly adapted that from George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”. I hope he wouldn’t take offense that I did so if he were alive today.
You know what is going to happen next, don’t you? The Screeching Quitter will weigh in with an outraged, outraged I tell you, facebook / twitter post on why Obama is failing this country by disappointing our top generals with his incompetence, to the point where they openly engage in insubordination. OR – she will wait and see what Obama does – and find a way to bash that too.
My 2 cents on this – McChrystal needs to be asked to resign. This is too much. He can’t be allowed to mock the chain of command like this. And he especially cannot be seen to allow his aides to do it too.
And oh – don’t look for Republicans to support the President either. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are already lining up to back McChrystal (the war hero) against the President – this will excite the base to no end. They love ‘em some good ol’ Obama humiliatin’.
Jerks, the lot of ‘em.
But – I’ll wait and see, maybe they will surprise me!
I don’t understand why the press were allowed to follow them around for a few weeks. That just seems unsafe, at best, and foolish. One thing any organization needs, be it a company, a non-profit, or the military, is unity of purpose and voice. It doesn’t sound like they have either one.
personally i don’t think he should be given the option of resigning. he should be fired. i hope he will be. the pentagon and the military in my opinion (and please don’t ask for a specific or a link, just what i’ve gleaned over the months) have not demonstrated respect for the CIC.

Then he’ll add, “I’m going to have to scold you in the morning for it, though.”
In the first four months of this year, NATO forces killed some 90 civilians, up 76 percent from the same period in 2009 — a record that has created tremendous resentment among the very population that COIN theory is intent on winning over. In February, a Special Forces night raid ended in the deaths of two pregnant Afghan women and allegations of a coverup, and in April, protests erupted in Kandahar after U.S. forces accidentally shot up a bus, killing five Afghans.
Having had some contact with military in my family years ago, I was shocked to hear what he said and intentionally permitted to be quoted in a magazine article. I nearly married someone in the military and always worried that I would have a hard time with the military protocol. The respect that the military requires for the chain of command cannot be spit on like this. He needs to go, either by firing or resignation.
KTUU reported that Sullivan is trying to put an end to the city firefighters engaging in community service projects while on-call for duty. Things like raising money at the “Boot Drives”, and driving the fire trucks in parades. The parades, Dan? Really??? Could that tiny, petrified little heart in your chest get any smaller?

Karl Rove’s 527 Group is a bit short of its $52 Million goal

Ya all should know that when Bartender-Mayor Dan was playing basketball for the University… I hit him on the head with a basketball.
Although unintentional, I consider it a great shot by ME.
Great graphic! However Bartender-Mayor Dan doesn’t do real chainsaws or walk on a nature trail or go near anything health foodish or … Well you get the picture. Dan does serve drinks. That is about it….
Local TV news in Anchorage is reporting that Mayor Dan is negotiating a special contract with his friend, co-hort and former Assembly member Dan Coffey so that Coffey will get pain to “help administer” Title 21 – the new land use code. It is against the ethics code for a former Assembly member to take a “paid position” within a year of leaving office, but Sullivan says getting paid under a contract is not the same as a paid position. Let’s all remember that the City can’t afford firefighters or speed bumps.
Fact Checking the Sunday Shows on Political Correction –

Fiorina misrepresented her tenure at Hewlett-Packard, and lied about President Obama’s funding for border security and the recently-departed head of the Minerals Management Service. House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence called the Obama administration’s handling of the gulf oil disaster “slow.” A timeline shows that claim is false. And since it wouldn’t be Sunday without a Republican voice misrepresenting the Recovery Act, Rep. Enjay,
Be thankful that you don’t have to listen to her “ads” here in California. To quote KO…”That woman is an idiot”.
Barbara Boxer will take her down big time. I have worn out the mute button on my remote when she comes on. Better that then shooting the poor TV.
We all know how she “handled” HP.
You mean “man handled HP.” Carly has used the worst traditionally “masculine” traits to get ahead, and now is trying out some of the worst traditionally “feminine” traits, like being a ignoramus and flouting it. Remind you of anyone?
I find that to be incredibly sad that there are so many who still don’t get it that we need to correct what went wrong before we let it happen again. I understand the people in the Gulf who depend on oil for jobs, but it’s time to look toward the bigger picture of our future that shouldn’t rely so heavily on oil – for energy or jobs.
When a product in the marketplace is found to be faulty or tainted, no one complains when it is recalled and pulled off the shelves until the problem is fixed. Why do so many people have a problem with a temporary hold being placed on a process that has caused the worst environmental disaster in US history until we can figure out what happened and keep it from happening again?
‘Yeah folks, you just keep driving those Pintos around while we try to figure out why they keep blowing up!! We’ll let ya know what we found out in a few years…IF you’re still in one piece!’
Yes, I would say that the General is in trouble.
It won’t be the first time that a General got in trouble. I remember during WW11, Pres Truman fired General MacArthur, and General Eisenhower came down on Patton.
After reading the article about Gen. McCrystal, I am wondering if he and Hamid Karzai are getting too cozy.

As of late, our president is not too happy with Hamid Karzai.
And I agree that Ms Quittie pants, can’t wait to put in her two cents worth.
Well, at the very least, it sounds like the general is too cozy with his aides. He doesn’t sound like their commander, but more like he wants to be one of the boys. Not a good attitude or demeanor for a general.
I saw this referenced on Andrew Sullivan under the header suggesting the “She” is an anosognosic without identifying who “She” was. The article does not identify who “She” is either but it will become apparent who Sullivan is referring to when you read it.

You don’t need a lot of smarts. You don’t have to do tensor calculus. You don’t have to do quantum physics to be able to survive to the point where you can reproduce.” One could argue that evolution suggests we’re not idiots, but I would say, “Well, no. Mark Begich has come out with a statement as well from his website. Shannyn was NOT happy.
Begich seems to side with the Judge…. in sort of wishy-washy terms. read the statement.
i am disappointed also Memphis. i thought for sure that the people here would be more than happy to take a moment to help this young man. i don’t understand. where are the pups?
we can do this! I know that because we have in the past!
While Ian is currently at #2 spot right now, we can’t take anything for granted.
vote, mudpuppies, vote!
and have your friends and family vote too!
Let’s GOTV!!!!!
While I voted for Ian both years, this year I did have a feeling he might have more of a battle to get there. I’ve noticed on some of the other boards that they have youth nominees that are being supported as well. Some folks here visit a number of blogs and this year it looks like they had more nominees to consider. Perhaps some who voted for Ian last year decided to give another a chance this year ?
But ! For those who aren’t debating about who to vote for and simply haven’t voted yet, please do consider Ian! The process only takes a few moments and then, tada! Ian is one step closer to getting to Netroots where he will expand his horizons even more. It’s up to us to support those coming up in the generation behind us.
I like the idea of posting about Ian’s candidacy on other websites and getting their support too.
I’ve also voted for him and will continue to support him as our very own mudpup jr.
I have to think that with a single click we are supporting not just our own mudpup but the future of this country. That is important.
Look at the O’Keefes and crap that the Republican party are training in dirty politics at a young age. This is what the young people who actually care about others will be fighting in years to come. Anything that we can do now to help provide for a better tomorrow we should do.
Good point, PacosGal , about O’Keefe. The extreme right is training their youth straight from the cradle. They are immediately introduced to the radical church views, the hatred, the ” politics for Jesus”, etc.
The left, on the other hand, teaches more about open mindedness, choose your own path, think for yourself, explore different issues. I have a fantasy about a type of charter school that would be teach civics, debate, TRUE history, sociology, etc. and would end up turning out young adults that could handle themselves in a conversation about the world around them and weren’t afraid to sometimes be wrong. Learn from experience. Strive to make a difference. Be able to laugh things off when it’s ok to do so and yet fight tooth and nail when they think it’s the right course.
IMO, this is what we need to do to counter the radical right fundies. You go Ian !
Ah’m a leettle slo-oowww…but I’se voted … gettin’ in ta Turlock mode…..tol the wife muh plans…she’s a jus shakin’ hur haid an mumblin’ to hirslf….chorlte… now if I can just figure out WHERE in Turlock I need to go to…..
” … But the White House did not designate the other five members until June 14. They are Frances G. Beinecke, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council; Donald Boesch, president of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science; Terry D. Garcia, an executive vice president at the National Geographic Society; Cherry A. Murray, dean of the Harvard University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and Frances Ulmer, chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage.”
Remember, pups, if you are attending “Hands Across the Sand” Saturday, bring a handful of wheatgrass to cast upon the waters for the spiritual/ritual improvement of the sea critters’ habitat.
Hi Ben…I’ll be checking for your comment in the thread. Was late in getting back here.
I will definitely be there and will give you a description of what I am wearing.
Basically a camera hanging around my neck with a purple Sacramento Kings cap.
Yes… the link you have is the location. Is ‘strangelet ‘ going to be there.?
Isn’t s/he just up the trail there in Groveland.
Hi HIG !!
chortle.. Orange shag carpet room for me, with my first response !!… I’ll have a black ad white “Fringe” cap on..and a moustache….the rest of the attire will be more than just a camera…..the mind says 60′s, but the body ain’t there anymore ! Wish I had a “Brian” ,
Mudpup Jr. Ian is in 4th place for a Netroots Nation Scholarship. Come one, folks! He just needs to move up one notch! Get those votes in: http://www.democracyforamerica.com/netroots_nation_scholarships/951-ian-ross

I posted the link a few days ago on a discussion board I visit, and the people there all voted! I thought that was so nice. Go, Ian!
glad to have been of assistance!
Great cartoon. It sure hits the nail on the head. Don’t forget, there was also enough money to buy a new Zamboni for his best buddy Dan Coffee.
…and get his honey-on-the-side a little contract as a party-planner for his office.
Perhaps Dan the Man could assign the Zamboni to traffic detail during the off season…you know, multi-tasking? Efficient use of tax dollars?
Happy summer, mudpups–

Ian is one step closer to getting to Netroots where he will expand his horizons even more. It’s up to us to support those coming up in the generation behind us.
Link is posted by Memphis @20 !
Wouldn’t that be nice BuffaloGal!

Health and peace.
