Open Thread – That Darn Fact!
This clever spoof of That Darn Cat comes from Mudflatter Blooper! Eureka California…. Illinois…. whatever. There’s actually a Eureka in Alaska too! But Ronald Reagan didn’t go to college there either.

Too funny! I’d love to see this on a billboard in Times Square.
Ya know–as humans we all occasionally gaffe, may take somethings out of context or forget a fact.
Occasionally. But what must it be like when these occasional manifestations become a major personality disorder? Well, for me …. damned funny when it comes from fact free Sarah; but pretty pitiful for the people who actually pay to listen to her swill.
Jimmy Durante made a living off of malapropisms. I have a feeling he knew what he was doing when he did it, though.

Now my favorite quote of all time! I couldn’t have said it better myself.
There’s a Eureka in Missouri, too. Known mostly for the traffic jams from the amusement park attendees.
Sheesh, just think about how many poor people could be helped with the money these ignorant, empty-headed, rich people waste listening to word salad from the Lamequeen Tedium! Think about how many people could be given clothes, shelter, food, and/or medical care with that money. But no, it goes to listen to a factually challenged, hateful moron who does nothing to justify the air that she is breathing.
Well said!
Hey. Those SoCal rich folks are SocialITES, not SocialISTS!!
Stanislaus is in Northern Cal. In the Central Valley.
I think those socialites in So Cal would be just mocking her. Even Nancy Reagan hasn’t said what she really thinks of the Tundra Tart, PolitiFact’s Liar of the Year.
Stanislaus is, as you say, in the Central Valley, south of Sacramento so (as a former northern Californian) I would say that Turlock is in Central California not northern.
I’d agree about Central CA, but most people think of No Cal and So Cal. (And Sacto has the BEST Farmers Markets I’ve ever been to. Even better than the Union Square one in NYC. But too bad that the Central Valley tends to be Republican, while employing people who aren’t here legally. That seems to be contradictory, to me at least.)
Actually, the Central Valley should be distinct from Central Coast of CA. It’s like two different worlds.
And yes, the Central Valley is very conservative as you go south it gets even more so. By the time you get to Bakersfield you are in Kevin McCarthy territory who is running unopposed for reelection to Congress. Kevin is owned lock, stock and barrel by big oil. The fields west of Bakersfield are still producing and if you ever want to see a stinky oil town take a detour off 5 and visit McKittrick, it stinks just like LaCienaga Hill in Los Angeles did when I was a kid.
The other economic activity of course is farming. And yes the farmers have worked very hard to make sure they have a good supply of cheap labor. These are not small family farms either but big enterprises. These GOP’er will fight hard to stop any “guest worker” program. They want scared folks who will work cheap and not complain about conditions. When Poisner went all out on “illegals” he lost the primary in this area. The last thing farmers want is to deport all their workers. Legal status via “guest worker cards” would also be against the interest of the corporate farmers who then would have to follow labor and safety laws.
CA used to have a “guest worker” program but I think Reagan got rid of it. I need to do some research on this one. Since I was a kid farm worker status has always been a hot button in CA politics. It’s the corporate need for cheap labor vs. human rights and worker safety over profit. In some ways I think “farms” are CA coal mines.
I’m born & raised Northern California gal, and the imaginary split is San Fran. San Fran & north, northern Cal. Everything south – southern Cal. Obviously, northern Californians love San Francisco! Fresno, et al would never be considered the northern part of the state – icky poo!
I think of 3 CA’s. the North is anything past Cuesta grade outside San Luis Obispo. The South is SLO and south. And runs along the coast.
The third part is the Central Valley between the coastal ranges and the Sierra Nevada mountains and runs from Redding south to Bakersfield and includes Fresno (icky but not as icky as Bakersfield). Sac and Davis are little islands in this very redneck land.
When I first encountered Valleyites in college at Cal I got the impression that the Valley is heavily populated by folks who came to CA to escape the Dust Bowls of the 30′ies. They brought there traditions with them and hence their decedents carry on the values and traditions of the Dust Bowl areas.
I’m from San Jose. That’s northern CA. The Central Valley is considered separate by many people living on the Coast. There’s the Northern San Juaquin Valley and Souther San Juaquin Valley that has nothing to do with where the coast is divided into North and South. Then, there’s the Central Coast.
In general, for geographic purposes, the 32nd parallel is considered the boundary between North and South, but practically, it often tends to do with access. For instance, several towns in the Eastern Sierra are in the northern part of the state, but access is much easier from LA, so they often get considered and classed with SoCal.
And, now, for a bit of trivia, where did they originally want to put California’s capital? Bodie. Look it up on a map.
And, I don’t know what Sarah was on, but Turlock isn’t a particularly appealing part of the state. Most people are trying to drive through as fast as possible. I lived in that area for a few years. Great people, great farm country, but scenery, not so much. There’s a reason Stanislaus isn’t that big of a school.
Well, when you consider her dead Lake Lucille, things that actually grow might have been appealing!
I once drove I5 to get to school my undergrad years from So Cal to No Cal or the other way, by myself, and thought I would kill myself from the boredom. I was reduced to trying to read the signs of what was planted, calculate mentally how soon I’d be there if I went 55 MPH, 60 MPH, 70 MPH, 80 MPH and you get the idea. All other times, I went up or down the 101.
FYI: The people I met when I lived in Sacto for 6 months were the BEST! And one of them literally changed my life, so I am forever grateful for my time with the people who live there and the generous ones who took me under their wings.
In reply to fan from CA. The comedian Gallagher ? said it best. There they were, heading across the prarie in their covered wagons, heading for California, but sometimes your wheel fell off, and if you were too stupid or too lazy to fix it, you just stayed where you stayed. You think people were heading for Tulsa?I guess you have to appreciate the ones who are able to live in Cal.At least they are smart enough to change a wheel.
indeed.
Super job, Blooper!
This brings back memories of one of my favorite movies when I was a kid…I even had the book with pictures from the film. If my memories are correct, the cat was awfully smart and I’m betting it could give our quitty, half-term Princess Wind Between Her Ears a run for her money. It certainly had a better script writer than she does!
Thanks for the chuckle and the quick meander down memory lane…
Thanks Leenie17! Glad it brought back fond memories for you. As for cats and Sarah, I’ll bet they tend to hiss when they first meet her. I’m pretty sure mine would, anyways!
Here’s an article about Scarah’s appearance at the Gwinnett Arena from the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
http://www.ajc.com/news/palin-appearance-offers-admission-560598.html
As usual, taking advantage of the opportunity to bash “Obamacare,” Ms. Palin presented no facts to back up her outrageous claims. Well, duh, who needs ‘em when people will believe what you say because you have such great legs?
The ad for this event said it was not a political event but everything she attends becomes a political carnival. These organizers should tell her no bashing the President but I guess they already know she will.
I think her bowling speech is today, any bowling shoes on the ground AKM?
Just think of all the jokes to be made, strikes, gutters, balls, etc..
I’m kind of stunned that they would dip further into their funds and give her son a tricycle. Doesn’t she earn enough money to buy one for the child?
The gracious and CLASSY thing would have been to quietly return it to them with a request to give it to a different child.
Palin and classy do not reside on the same continent. I doubt they share the same galaxy.
From the article, in which they mention the half-filled venue:
“Palin confided to the audience about her fears when learning she was pregnant with a Down syndrome child. “I didn’t think I could handle it. I didn’t know if I would be nurturing and patient and merciful enough to handle this challenge,” she said. (YOU CLEARLY AREN’T, LIAR OF THE YEAR!) “The minute he was born, it was like, ‘Yeah, God knew what He was doing and it would be good.’” …
Fans paid from $25 to $65 to see Palin. While sales lagged in the weeks leading up to the event, Alisa Mann’s enthusiasm made up for what was missing in numbers. Wearing a pink T-shirt that read “Palin for President 2012,” Mann also carried a sign of support for the Alaskan mother of five. Mann first saw Palin live when the politician appeared at the Gwinnett Arena in support of Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss in late 2008. Mann called Palin an inspiration for mothers like her, as her daughter, Vivian, 8, nodded in agreement. “I think she is so genuine,” said Mann, who traveled with her family from Stockbridge for the event to celebrate her 40th birthday. “I don’t think she gives you an answer just because that is what you want to hear, which is so prevalent in politics these days.” (Does this airhead know about $P winning LIAR OF THE YEAR?!?)
The airhead probably doesn’t know that. If she does, I’m sure she discounts it as the lamestream media being after the martyr of Wasilla.
It’s all part of the Scarah meme to appeal to the airheads. They like her because she is an airhead “who speaks for them”. She’s the mean girl who is getting back at all the smart people who have mocked the airheads all their lives.
If Scarah started to make any sense she would lose her following.
O dear gawd, that woman ! From the article above:
” ….true to her spirited nature, took on the Obama Administration with both jokes and criticisms.”
Spirited nature ?? Yeah, evil spirits, maybe.
” And in her direct comedic style, she quipped that while special needs kids might not win a Nobel Peace Prize, “Nobel prizes aren’t what they used to be anyway.”
And by “comedic style” they mean snarky, nasty, ” find a way to use special needs children as a way to bash our President ” ?
and then , re: finding out Trig would have DS:
” I didn’t think I could handle it. I didn’t know if I would be nurturing and patient and merciful enough to handle this challenge,”
Ummm….. ’scuse me but when’s the last time she spent 4 straight days being nurturing, patient and living up to the challenges of her special needs child ??? Liar. Hypocrite. Gak.
ha! nswfm @7.1 , we were both grumbling and muttering about the same passage at the same time. I have to wonder about the energy that’s generated when we’re all reading something about her insanity at the same time. Too bad it can’t be harvested and used for good !
When I get mad, I get active because I’m motivated to see the change or stop the stupidity.
(Then I look at pictures of kittens to make me happy again, hint hint!)
Just be grateful the article opened with a mention of the half-capacity crowd. Lagging sales were brought up again later. That’s pretty good. Combine things like that with her unfavorability ratings, which do nothing but go up, and you have indications that whatever the press is or isn’t doing, whatever bloggers are or aren’t saying…the truth about SP is coming out. Maybe not the the ultimate truth, about Trig, but more people are seeing her for what she is despite the controls she tries so hard to maintain.
She really is a one-hit wonder, only she wasn’t that much of a hit. Apparently no one told her that. I can’t believe she found a way to bash the Nobel Prize. Good grief. Well, one thing for sure, she won’t ever be considered for it.
In the article, there was a woman who was there to celebrate her 40th birthday who sees Sarah as some sort of hero and role model. That, to me, is so sad. Clearly that woman’s mother and teachers failed to teach and show her what it means to be a strong woman and a good citizen.
You know what else chaps my ass? The woman was given a tricycle for Trig. That’s fine…but a CLASSY person would have quietly given it back after the appearance so that a child whose family couldn’t afford it could have it. I mean, she has had more than 12 MILLION dollars thrown at her, she can AFFORD to buy anything Trig needs or wants.
Classy and $P don’t inhabit the same stage, let alone the same galaxy.
Of course, the idea of her donating her time or money out of her own well-lined pockets to this organization probably never floated between her ears.
*hmph*
Have you read about her behavior on a visit to Hollywood? Swag, swag, and more swag for the hag. 40 pairs of headphones!! She emptied out stocks for the goody bags singlehandedly! Of course, she “humbly” accepted the trig for Trike, I mean the trike for Trig (those silly names get so confusing).
Wow…the stoopid never ends. The latest from good ol’ batsh!t crazy Michelle Bachman is that she’s worried because President Obama is trying to make the US part of a global economy (cue scary music). Clearly, I was living under a terrible misunderstanding because I thought we’ve actually been part of a global economy for…ohhh…nearly a hundred years or so.
“Well, President Obama is trying to bind the United States into a global economy where all of our nations come together in a global economy. I don’t want the United States to be in a global economy where, where our economic future is bound to that of Zimbabwe.”
“So I think clearly this is a very bad direction because when you join the economic policy of different nations, it is one short step to joining political unity and then you would have literally, a one world government,”
Sorry, Shelley, but we’ve been exporting and importing goods and materials for far longer than our soshalist, comm-yoo-nist president has been alive, and it’s not going to stop any time soon. If we tried to remove ourselves from this horrible global economy you find so terrifying, our own economy would collapse.
She no longer has entertainment value and it is now just frightening to have someone this utterly clueless in the US Congress.
Yup, the civil war fought over tariffs. The north wanted them to protect against cheap imports. The south was against them because Europe would retaliate by putting tariffs on Southern agriculture goods like cotton, tobacco, sugar, etc made cheap with slave labor.
What? Is this another ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT conspiracy scare the Christianists like to flog?
I seem to remember some punk band I liked with a sound clip of G Bush I saying “new world order” over and over again. I am pretty sure he thought he was the leader of that.
I have the same memory. This song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TSnKEmrjzs (Ignore the updated visuals.)
“So I think clearly…” [Michelle Bachman ~~ h/t leenie17]
Memo for Ms Bachman:
Madam ~ You no more “think clearly,” you addle-brained twit, than Our Lady of the Perpetually Flaming Pants(TM), $aint $arah, speaks either factually or truthfully.
If you *did* “think clearly,” Missy B., you would know how absurd your spewed ‘conclusions’ are; how totally divorced from logic, actuality, and reality they are. If you *did* “think clearly,” Missy B., you’d have enough sense to keep your mouth shut! — you’d know to STFU and *never* subject anyone, *EVER!* again!, to your continuously-exploding mental diarrhea.
*Clearly*, Ms. Bachman, you do NOT “think clearly”! Your prove it daily. beth.
“You addle-brained twit” — I love it! What popped into my mind was Dan Ackroyd to Jane Curtin on SNL’s spoof of Crossfire: “Jane, you ignorant slut!”
P.S. There’s a Eureka in Montana also, too. Was once known as the Christmas tree capital of the world. (Bit of hyperbole, there.)
Some needs to explain to the batty one that the global economy is all part of the end times that she and her ilk await so desirously. Maybe she should get on this bandwagon instead of trying to stop it. It might even put her in better standing with the one above.
Global economy
Is Bachmann too wealthy to shop for all that Chinese merchandize at Wal-mart?
….yes, isn’t she getting gubmint farm subsidy money or something like that?
One of my favorite folk groups from the 60s was The Chad Mitchell Trio. Not only could they sing, they did political satire (in song) better than anyone. One song on their album “Reflecting” from 1964 is “Barry’s Boys” (as in, Barry Goldwater). There are so many political references that I’ll likely spend the next hour looking them all up. But the end of the song is this gem, appropo to Bachmann:
“So let’s go back to the days when men were men,
And start the First World War all over again.
That’s righ, you tell ‘em son -
Isolationism can be fun.
Back to Barry
Back to cash and carry
Back with Barry’s . . .
(spoken)
And remember, “I’m an American first, and a politician second.”
Spoken like a true American politician.
(sung)
Back with Barry
Not with Lyndon, Ike or Harry
Back with Barry’s boys.”
thanks for reminding me! and don’t forget Tom Lehrer and That Was the Week that Was also, too.
TW3! I loved that show. Do you remember the broadcast the week Mr. Kennedy died? It was the only show on aside from news reports.
We not only own the Complete Tom Lehrer, my kid was given a FIRST EDITION Tom Lehrer song book.
PLUS performed “Poisoning Pigeons in the Park” for her 7th grade talent show. Complete with feather boa!
If I were another type of person, I’d be jealous!! How totally cool. My faves are Pollution, The Elements, The Vatican Rag, and National Brotherhood Week, but if I thought about it, I’d come up with ten more. When Kissinger won the Nobel, Tom Lehrer said something like “political satire is redundant.” Love him, loved TW3. A first edition, and a feather boa. That’s some kid!
fright aside, its another knee slapper. dire days are full of em.
$p has highlighted the funny & creative nature of many a thinking folk. contrast.
h/t to all*~~~
It is also scary that we may have more in congress like Michele Bachman. A political Ad was seen on MSNBC last night with a woman shooting guns like she was declaring war .She is running for congress. Can’t think of her name, but really don’t care to know her.
Hope that people from other countries don’t see these political ads, and think that all American women are like this. Guts with no brain.
Here ya go , Lacy –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqnjzONrPiA
Her name is Pamela Gorman and she’s running in AZ.
What in the world is in the water down there ???
Lead? Arsenic? Pesticides?
I kept waiting for the SNL logo to appear! Even the voice over seemed funny until I realized this was actually a real ad.
Holy WTF on the video! There is no way that is real and not a joke. There is just no way. Even the narrator sounder like he was he was trying not to laugh.
boy howdy, whata buzzkill. went from knee slap over the darn facts to head slap over the unbelievable being real. the comments about machine gun pammy are comforting, so far as i ve read.
My lord, they’re trying to out-crazy each other. Forget birth certificates, I want my elected officials to show an IQ test and a psych eval.
Color me too..thinking that that gorman ad..was a send-up. It IS real..and that good people..is Scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
laprofesora you got hat right. What a horrible political ad.It sure shows how politicians have become attack dogs taking after palin. That was the first thing that turned me off about palin her mad dog attacking and that was before the letter about her was sent out.
I love how she pulls out an arsenel and then proceeds to say, “I am a Conservative Christian.” What kind of God do these people worship? The NRA?
Also loved the shot of her showing some young kid how to shoot the weapon. Good to know she is so into mentoring the youth. This is insanity!
Must be the heat down there, frying the brain cells. That explains McCain, also, too.
What I find particularly scary about that ad was the kind of weapons she was using. Although I am not a gun lover myself, I do understand the need for some kinds of weapons. I have family members who are hunters and others who lived in a rural area where coyotes and mountain lions were common (and rattlesnakes but they were never good enough to actually hit one of those with a gun unless they threw it at them!).
Although I have a general philosophical problem with using guns in a political ad, I could even understand it if the weapon was a rifle or shotgun and the candidate was shown hunting. However, according to an article I read about the ad, she used two different pistols, an automatic rifle and a Thompson submachine gun!
A MACHINE GUN????????? Does she think she’s Eliot Ness going after Al Capone???
Ya know I saw that also.My family hunted also but not with machine guns. I hope the people who see this are properly turned off with the violence shown. To me the ad shows she is a violent person, not a true christian at all kind of like SP.watch and see if palin doesn’t endorse her.Family also had pistols for protection but did not need to go out and show how violent we could be.
FYI, my mom killed a 6-ft rattlesnake by dropping a big rock on it. No guns allowed in our house.
When my sister first moved to the high desert from a New England suburb, her husband’s aunt proudly presented her with a new shovel, adorned with flowers and ribbons. They lived on a farm in the midwest and she explained that it was NOT for shoveling dirt, but was actually a special shovel for removing the heads from rattlesnakes. My sister thought it was a hoot but didn’t think she’d really want to get close enought to a rattlesnake to use her new gift!
Great poster!
There’s a Eureka in Kansas, also, too. Close to El Dorado where there’s a major oil refinery. You always know when you are near El Dorado – the stink from the refinery blows up and down the turnpike and highways. Almost as bad as living near a meat processing plant (e.g., where they kill and process the animals and burn the blood – ghastly!).
Does anyone know if there’s a site for Sarah’s verbal goofs as there was/still is for GWB’s malapropisms?
I loved and still enjoy visiting the DubyaSpeak site (where there are quotes and video clips documenting his stupidity). I am hoping someone somewhere is developing a site like that for Sarah – just letting her own words and actions document her stupidity. They both have got to be the best examples to use to scare children into studying hard.
i used to read those bushisms and just laugh and laugh – and after awhile, stop, and think, omigawd, this is the PRESIDENT?! sarah’s do not entertain in the same way. maybe it’s the bitterness. if she becomes president i do believe i’ll have to actually follow through on something i thought quite about during the dark gw years and leave this country.
I used to laugh at the Bushisms too and just shake my head. The difference with the Quitter is that she has such a mean, sarcastic tone to her that I did not see with Bush. He was goofy with his language but not cruel. She is both stupid and cruel, a very dangerous combination.
i think if she should ever come to be president we need to get the hell off the planet.
got any room in that starship of yours, bubbles? I’ll bring seeds & lights & grow us some nice food
.
The thing of it is: The Ws multiple gaffes were short bursts one could isolate as a soundbite; no such luck with $Ps verbiage. Her individual words are fine (if not pronounced in some rilly odd ways for an Umurican…even for one from Alassssska ;-0!) — it’s when she strings all those words into her infamous Word Salad, that she gallops off -with unfettered abandon- into WTF?-land.
Aside from our own dear AKM, I can’t think of a soul who’d have the intestinal fortitude to analyze the sheer stupidity of a $Ps Word Salad blast…let alone deconstruct and generate a comprehensive analysis of the many hundreds (if not thousands) of instances of said Word Salad idiocy.
I don’t think there’s an intertubes server anywhere on the planet, yet, that has the storage capacity to house –all in one place– $Ps never-ceasing “verbal goofs”, either. Not even NASA, I don’t think, has that capacity. beth.
“with unfettered abandon into WTF land”..oh my gosh Beth..you are on a ROLL today!
here,hear:)
Loved that too!
Great analysis! Somehow she’s managed to roll several things (fake ‘Fargo’ accent, odd intonation, and nails-on-chalkboard banshee shrill) into something that could be downright patentable. The sad thing is that I feel she’s merged this curious speech pattern (however incomprehensible it is) into her brand. So much so I could see her practicing it in a mirror. And let’s face it, if she could actually give a decent, intelligible speech I don’t think anyone would notice (after the initial shock, of course). She needs ‘teh stoopid’ to draw attention. Come to think of it, she’s kind of like a cooking oil fire. The more water you use to douse it out, the bigger the fire gets.
I get this mental picture of her skipping on a salad.
lol, good one
My perception of gwb is that he is living proof that a person doesn’t have to have brains to be dangerous. SP must have fallen off the same cliff. Bush was such a disaster for this Nation that I don’t think it is possible for me to laugh at his gaffes in my lifetime.
I’m proud to say that I’m from the Eureka CA area and I must say I was surprised to learn that a former president graduated from our local state university — oh wait, that’s Humboldt Sate Univ. NOT Eureka college!!!!!!!!
Not only does she make stupid statements, she does it in that screechy, whinny voice — That woman is an idiot!!!!!!
Dang, my whole family attended Humboldt State, and never once glimpsed Reagan on campus or hiding in the redwoods.
Sarah – you put the D in dolt. And the O, and the L, and the T!
Ah, maybe he was at College of the Redwoods?
Didn’t Reagan say trees were causing air pollution?
Found one more that is pertinent, one that I find sadly funny.
“The American Petroleum Institute filed suit against the EPA [and] charged that the agency was suppressing a scientific study for fear it might be misinterpreted… The suppressed study reveals that 80 percent of air pollution comes not from chimneys and auto exhaust pipes, but from plants and trees.” Presidential candidate Ronald Reagan, in 1979. (There is no scientific data to support this assertion.)
“You know, if I listened to him long enough, I would be convinced that we’re in an economic downturn, and that people are homeless, and people are going without food and medical attention, and that we’ve got to do something about the unemployed.” — President Reagan, 6/8/88, accusing Michael Dukakis of misleading campaign rhetoric.
he did? oh for grief’s sake!
I had a little book called ‘Ronald Reagan’s Reign of Error.’ The first edition had (1) what Ronnie said, and (2) the facts. The second edition (published during his presidency) had (1) what Ronnie said, (2) the facts, and (3) what the WH said he ‘meant.’ It would have been funny, had we not had to live through it, and with all the years of consequences of said reign.
Replying to nswfm:
“Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do.” — Ronald Reagan, 1981
“A tree is a tree. How many more do you have to look at?” — Ronald Reagan, 1966, opposing expansion of Redwood National Park as governor of California

I’m going to go look that up on abebooks. I want one!
I saw Tuesday yahoo had SP Reagan thing on their news site and they did also go on and tell about the message sent out and the lies in it.They mentioned about the site she claimed was after her and that she lied about it.I was really surprised by the writer and put it on my face book and twitter account.
Just in! From, the Albany, New York, Times Union: A distillery in Wasalla, Alaska is selling Salmon flavored vodka.
Now Sarah will be able to see Two Russias from her house and two inebriated fish going with the stream!
Right, like two versions to every statement, two defense funds, two houses, two fakes (padding), and two wigs.
LOL.
“I’m a violent, illiterate pig who eats with her mouth open just like all you outstanding Americans!”
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/matt-taibbi/blogs/TaibbiData_2010/83807/83512
Brilliant take on Palin’s brand – spot on, in my opinion.
You can go a long way if you convince someone that their very weakness is what makes them great. That they can do no wrong but to be themselves, no improvements needed! Selfish and prone to violence? You’re a patriot! Lazy and prone to lying to get your way? You’re a real down home American!
It’s an absolute shame that so many people are so VAIN as to fall for this destructive philosophy.
“That and her utterly genuine stupidity and meanness can take her a long way — all by themselves, I think these things can win the White House for her — and it seems like she senses this on an animal/reptilian level.”
This one took me back to the comment made yesterday about SP sleeping “hanging by her clawed toes from the ceiling lamp of course”. I cannot get that visual out of my head. I am still laughing. Flyinureye–this one is calling you.
I agree! That was a most fabulous comment.
Eureka in Florida, also, too…from teh google maps it appears to be in the middle of nowhere, but close to the Ocala National Forest. Never been there, myself. Don’t know about Ronnie.
what is sad and yet amazing to me is that while republican presidents
signed off on what amounts to 90% of the total national debt, not
one republican ever stood up and said that to do so was wrong.
nope, republicans have and always will campaign on their faux
platform of smaller government and less spending.
and yet here we are, dick cheny said “raygun proved that the
deficit doesn’t matter”.
now we have republicans trying to rewrite history once again
and blame the guy that comes along after the mess was created and
is trying to keep our country’s head above water.
republicans had no problem spending above and beyond our means
as long as they and their friends profit from such spending.
i have wondered and will forever ask, what was that first
lie that republicans told to themselves that enabled the telling
of all the rest of the lies to us to become so easy??
until we as a country stop telling lies and live
within our means and stop extending ourselves overseas to the
detriment of those here at home, we will continue to slowly
sink into that quagmire of despairing desperate decline we
loath yet seemingly embrace as we cant quite seem to pull our heads
out of that hole in the ground.
great post Meme. i feel you.
It’s apparently been a long-established tradition that the party out of power picks up seats during the midterm elections, and the Republicans have been gleefully predicting that they’re ‘taking back’ everything up to the Oval Office (although the calls for impeachment keep coming so that may be up for grabs too). You would THINK that this would be a good time for the Republicans to keep a low profile and try not to screw up too publicly. But, oh noooo…that would be too easy and smart. I just read this on Daily Kos:
“Let me see if I have this straight: in the last few days members of the GOP have savagely screwed the unemployed, protected the bankstas, trashed Thurgood Marshall, implied rape and incest is part of God’s plan, defended BP, threatened to either end social security or screw over 20 million plus people who have paid into the system for at least 20 years by making them wait until age 70 to see their benefits, and screwed homeless veterans with children. ”
I’m starting to feel much more optimistic about November!
I love this picture. Loved the movie, too.
FYI, I did a quick, but not thorough search, and found that ten states have their own Eureka. I had remembered there is one in Kansas. There were so many ways SP could go wrong with that lapse of fact checking. I wonder, though, does she ever feel ashamed when she’s caught in a lie or her lazy research? Or will this be the next thing we see her endlessly repeat like the writing on her hand that now seems to be standard procedure?
She thinks Reagan went to 10 different schools! No wonder she likes him.
Many thanks to all who’ve complimented me on the ‘cat’ poster, and AKM. Never in my wildest dreams
would I have thought it would make the font page of the Mudflats, but hey, I guess we can dream can’t we?
Oh, and thanks to Mudflatter Twain12 for inspiring me to do it (from a previous comment of theirs on the Eureka! open thread).
Hurrah for Blooper!!!! well done.
mas kudos
I just had company here from outside who do not favor Palin. During our political conversations they indicated the majority of the information I provided had never been heard by them. The majority of their friends, and some of their family members, do support Palin, thinking she is a good christian woman, a wonderful mother, well experienced in politics, a good public servant and believe the press to be horrible to her.
These friends now have the three blog sites I access every day or so – Mudflats, Shannyn (radio show), and Immoral Minority. They plan to provide the information to others when they return home. We laughed when one of them mentioned wishing they could stop their viewing of Fox, but knew that would never occur. So, they just simply plan to suggest both sides of an issue be reviewed concerning Palin and that these Alaskan blogwriters have proven (over the past couple of years) to have researched and printed more truthful knowledge about Palin than does the national news.
I would like to recommend to those of us in Alaska (and elsewhere), who want to STOP Palin, to make a concerted effort to get these blogsites out to all their friends with indivudla personal messages as to why they should/could be reviewed.
Sometimes it feels as though we can do nothing to stop her! But, we can….as Shannyn always says “One step at a time!”
Montana also has a Eureka
in Lincoln County
population in 2000
of just over 1,000 residents!
For those following the goings-on of the Coffee Party, here are the results of their online poll:

Good one, Blooper (and I never saw the movie).
LOL! Apparently she does more than just bust doors down. Must be that good ol’ Wasilla kryptonite.
Giving her the ability to move entire universities, that is. And thanks for the link, Zyxomma. I was wondering how the Coffee party movement was going.
Faster than a speeding snowmachine..Able to move entire Universities ..Leap oil spills in a single bound…….ahhh yesss ..it’s STUPER-WOMAN !!!!!

Dagian — You can find Ronald Reagan’s Reign of Error at Amazon; there were 5 new and about 50 used. Well worth the (very small) investment, IMO.
Maybe you could invite Gwb to debate SP and donate funds to charity. I don’t use sunscreen cuz I think the SP-40 means Sarah gets a percentage on every bottle sold. Heavem help us all.
How about Dan Quail .vs $arah Palin? Maybe a spelling bee with $P, Dan Quail, Glenn Beck and the whole Faux and Friends morning crew….
0-o
It’s all sorted now…Palin simply moved Reagan’s college (she does the work of God ya know):

Truly, is it that she’s stupid and can’t remember anything, or that she just tries to play to local crowds (and over-reaches, which then leads to stupid)? Answer – Both.
Here is what she said in Peoria Illinois in mid-April this year (from a recent posting on Free Republic):
“She said the country needs a dose of “Midwestern common sense” and paid homage to former President Ronald Reagan, a Eureka College graduate, who she said believed in limited government in order to expand opportunity and prosperity. (Eureka College is 25 minutes; 18 miles from Peoria – emphasized)
“Say what you will about the humble Eureka College-educated Ronald Reagan, but he could have told our Harvard-educated president that his debt-ridden exercise . . . will not play in Peoria.”
The Freeper thinks it’s a slip of the tongue and criticizes when Obama said he visited 57 states. THAT is a slip of the tongue – with the long days of campaigning, I get that. Along the same lines of McCain’s “My fellow prisoners…”
But here is what Palin said about Eureka College and Reagen at the CSU speech:
“It’s evident that there is something special here there is something different and really I think it’s made manifest an event like this. I so appreciate it. Uh, the Golden State, always being nice to be here and uh always feeling such a connection here a special place in my heart is California uh because this is Regan country and YEAH and perhaps it was destiny that the man who went to California’s Eureka College would become so woven within and inter-linked to the Golden State and it was here, that he, of course, that Reagan became famous as an actor and then distinguished himself as such a good governor and then launched his bid for President and then of course found his final resting place underneath the warm, blue, California sky.”
It wasn’t like she said California when she should have said Illinois in reference to Eureka College. Otherwise, why would a college in Illinois have even been mentioned at all when talking about Reagan and California? No, it had to be woven into this picture she was creating, without regard to facts.
More evidence that
she must only recite the words on the paper in front of her and know/learn nothing. And more evidence that more than one person writes her speech, and are terrible researchers.

Bristol, Piper, Willow: you’re fired.
I loved this line from the following: “America’s favorite victim is at it again.” And I will bet that you’ll all know who they’re referencing.

I loved this observation: “For Palin, who is long on rhetoric and short on substance, it was the perfect storm.”
Oops…caught lying…again!

This inspires a NEW $arah Palin nickname:
“Whind Between Her Ears
Whind = wind + whine
