Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Alaskan Independence Day!

Welcome to the Year One A.P.

One year ago today, on July 3rd, our then governor, now ex-half-governor stood on the shore of Lake Lucille before her family, her state and a raft of honking grebes, and shook the dust of Alaska off her naughty monkeys. She quit to become a brand, a celebrity, a political pin up girl/icon.

It was all for the good of our state – a selfless move to save us money, while simultaneously depositing large amounts of it in her own coffers. It was a win-win situation for the half-gov. She still goes by “Governor Palin” but I think she should go by “Governe…”

But, in any case, this is it Alaska. One year Palin-free. Her administration still lives on, but she at the helm has jumped overboard and swam for the golden shores. We have a new crop of candidates vying for the job and we wobble along wondering what things will look like in year 2 A.P.

But, let us pause in a bipartisan moment to gather round, and raise our glasses. Here’s to lessons learned, battles fought, and a Palin-free future.

Here is the quitspeech in all its glory, full of tortured metaphors, circular whackjobbery, and one big fat bowl of word salad.  And remember, staying and finishing the job is ” a quitter’s way out.”

You can choose to engage in things that tear down or that build up, and I choose to work very hard on a path of fruitfulness and for productivity. I choose not to tear down and waste precious time, but to build up this state and our great country and her industrious, and generous, and patriotic and free people. Life is too short to compromise time and resources, and though it may be tempting and more comfortable to just kinda keep your head down and plod along and appease those who are demanding hey just sit down and shut up, but that’s a worthless easy path out – that’s a quitter’s way out. And I think a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just kind of hunker down and go with the flow. We’re fishermen. We know that only dead fish go with the flow.

I’m actually afraid to click on the video and listen to the “rill dill”! I figure if I heard Shatner do his parody of it on late-night, I’ve probably heard all I can stand. Should I have a couple of adult beverages, “buck up”, and give it a listen?

I think I have listened to this too many times already but I may have to in celebration. As always, my favorite part of this speech are the honking grebes.

OK, I did it… I listened. My ears are bleeding. My soul is weeping as I realize this ‘speech’ represented the door blasting open for $arah (in her mind) …the door to ill-gotten gains, and the wanton slashing and burning of the Lower 48. Her very being is in rapture at the thought – the freedom – to dupe the dupable, bank that ‘book’ advance check, ridicule our President, incite the haters, and sour the very core mood of our country.

Oh $arah, you naughty monkey-shod & red power-jacketed one…. your disingenuous words, countenance, and body language during your Quitter Speech were shockingly transparent. You are as gleeful as a kid let out for summer vacation, two years early. You need to watch the polls closely, and kindly observe that 350,000,000 other ‘rill ummericans’ don’t believe your falsehoods, or agree with your evil, patently un-Christian ways. Also, too – you are now an international laughingstock.

Rant over. Thank God I have my mudpup friends to help me through each day of this Palin tyranny. I sense that the shining beam of Truth will soon vaporize this American blight. I, for one, plan on enjoying a great Independence Day weekend remembering what this Country is all about, and hope everyone does the same.

i listened too and realized that maybe it wasn’t so much nervousness that made her breathless during the speech, but rather, the thought of counting all that milked money, daily disparaging our president (foiled by an african american yet again, poor, poor sarah!), and controlling the national dialogue with her outbursts in twitty land. alaska might be free of her governorship, but she is now a blight from sea to shining sea. and she is so looking forward to it in this speech. yuck. i can’t wait till truth prevails.

    OMGNo Gravatar says:

Palin’s rise to prominence frightens me for several reasons but let me simply focus on one: She has achieved her stardom by controlling her message and that has been by controlling the media. Whatever she says on FB (whether written by her or not) is broadcast without fact checking or balance. She appears only on the FOX propaganda network where her quackery blends with theirs. FOX controls their message and as the number one cable news network, millions are buying what they’re selling. Fair and Balanced it is not.

It seems that there are other examples of this type of media control in history. Corrupt governments, by controlling the media (so much for the virtues of a free press) have used this type of propaganda to inspire entire populations to bend to their will. Hmmm let’s just think of a few. And that, to me, is probably the most frightening thing about the Palin machine.

      G KatzNo Gravatar says:

I share your concerns. While she claims to be victimized, she is largely given a free pass by the media as she hides behind Facebook and her media-forbidden events. And it’s frightening that so many people are on her side regardless of how the media covers her. Can they not simply listen to what she says and recognize the issues?

And it really puzzles me how so many people can tune into the faux network when they hear the Australian/British/American citizen who owns it admit that it’s a ratings game. Why would they trust the spin coming from a man with is an American citizen as his third choice and only then because it was required by law if wanted to own Faux Snooze.

Let’s hope the woman listens to her own advice about not needing a title to make a difference.

A fan from CANo Gravatar says:

I agree with you both but let’s realize that the 2 million who do watch faux is a very small percentage of everyone who watches evening news. Something like 40 to 50 million tune in to the broadcast networks, CNN and MSNBC. So one wingnut outlet is not very popular when you look at the big picture.

I actually think it may be useful because as they spew the crazy on a daily basis it exposes them. Let them rant and make up fantastical stories for all to hear. They are driving the sane and reasonable far, far away from the Republican Party. Plus it gives Jon Stewart and other comedians great material.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. What happens to all the reasonable GOP’ers? Here in CA for Senate crazy Carly beat Tom Campbell big time except in Silicon Valley where they know what an idiot she is. I don’t agree with Tom on much of anything but he is a “normal” person. He just didn’t have the money machine like Carly or emeg.

FWIW, Carly is so disliked by the Silicon Valley GOP the top tech executives like John Chambers of cisco and Larry Ellison of Oracle have formed a committee to support Boxer! Never thought I’d see the day these redder than red CEO’s back a Dem.

Re: your last paragraph – that’s excellent news.

I know the Republicans are bound to pick up a few new seats this fall, but I doubt it can be enough to ‘take back the House/Senate”.

We in Florida have the added excitement of Independent Charlie Christ running for Republican Mel Martinez’ Senate seat. So at best (if you are a Repub) electing Marco Rubio does not change the balance. At worst (if you are a Repub), the Dems will GAIN another seat, and Florida will have two Dem Senators.

I actually like the idea of having more Independents in the Senate. Maybe then the Senate could get more done.

I’m still not sure how I’m voting yet.

Speaking of its being the anniversary of Quitty Day, “Lame Duck” Crist is working like mad to do whatever he can for Florida re: the oil gusher (stupid to refer to it as a spill), make sure all emergency agencies are ready for hurricane season, signing or vetoing bills, and campaigning.

‘Cause that’s what REAL governors do. Heck, maybe I’lll send him a little e-mail that says “Thank you for not quitting”.

Heck, maybe I’ll even start a Facebook group that will unofficially make every July 3rd “Thank Your Governor for Not Quitting” Day, in Sarah Palin’s honor, of course.

I too share your concerns. Although Sarah supporters, who I believe truely worshop her and can find little wrong in what she says, concerns me the most. How can such a group, especially the many who profess their strong religious beliefs, actually find this woman credible. Is there some connection or psycological theory out there to explain why people with strong religious beliefs, seem to be more prone to believe what individuals like Sarah, dictators, or even propaganda state. What Sarah does is exactly what successful dictators do. They control the press, they strike down their opposition, and their message brings out a repressed feeling or fear in people.

I do think that many (not all, but many) people are attracted to right wing fundamentalist churches because they can’t think for themselves and they can’t figure out why they aren’t as successful as others or why their lives are a mess. They’re professional victims. These churches tell them they don’t have to think for themselves, all they need to do is pray and God will handle it all. Want a new house? Pray for it. Want more money? Pray for it. Don’t like gays? That’s ok, God will smite them and you can help Him. They call themselves Christians, yet take most of their beliefs from the Old Testament, which glorifies an angry God who kills everyone with whom He disagrees.

Anyone who wants to rise to power by using these deluded, powerless individuals just has to say what (s)he knows they want to hear, affirm their supposed victim status, then build on it to include more hatred, more intolerance and lots of fear of anything they don’t understand.

Let’s examine her remarks to Bill O’Reilly when he didn’t SDSU and let her do her thing. . .she said that President Obama let the Oil Company control the message, report the situation from “their perspective” which is something she ‘wouldn’t allow them to do’ with her as the State’s CEO. (ha ha.)

She was given credit for that observation in the press right before she couldn’t offer any other solutions to the whole Gulf mess.

But it is obvious she’s wagged the dog from day one regarding her narrative. She sought out national groups that would agree with her self-styled brand and kept at it. She used the power of her offices to control the message and brand critics with dismissive, insulting names like Haters or Lamestream Media.

She doesn’t deserve her own narrative, but it’s one thing she has been consistent on throughout it all. She’s the heroic Frontier Woman with conservative, common sense Christian creds. She’s built that image and millions follow it, including the Murdoch Empire.

This, too shall pass! Step back, and what you find is the Twit doing to the press what has worked for her so far in all else she has striven for. She attacks, she humiliates, she blames…and viola! It’s what she did up here, it’s what she’s doing down there. Most of our press has been very poor quality for quite some time now. They have just turned into another (or many) big business and completely lost sight of their real work. Sarah always comes in swingin’ and wailin – “Poor me! Everyone else is so bad!” and since no one can really believe such a b1tch has been loosed into the political arena, they shrink to the wayside.

It’s a weird phenomenon, but one she picked up quickly and is using to its full extent. Sarah uses everything and everyone – this is no exception. However, time is on our side and not hers. It is time, overexposure of her shriveled soul and mindless, mean babbling which turns her into nothing more than a caricature of a stomping brat. She’s a wannabee Veronica – I’m sure you would find plenty of Archie comic books under her bed in high school (along with a dictionary – them thar are big words in those comic books).

She wears thin, and mean. The press, as bad as they are at their jobs, will figure it out like everyone else.

She keeps them employed with her slack jawed lunacy and insults them as they eat it up like a toddler scarfing french fries. Luckily her followers remain the same people who think George W did a rockin’ job as POTUS.

Of course none of us has been lucky enough to escape Sarah’s teeming idiocy, tortured ignorance and insane ideology. What a fun year it’s been since I sat wide eyed and horrified at her nutso quitter speech. Amazing . . . . Since she was let “out” of Alaska, let’s see, the country experienced and world experienced the Haiti earthquake, Chilean earthquake, northamerican spring flooding, tornadoes, the West Virginia mining accident, the Gulf oil spill, and what Sarah needs to know is that the disaster responders in these areas DIDN’t quit their jobs midway. They stuck it out, risking their lives looking for survivors.

What did she to with her freedom? She managed to accumulate disproportionate amounts of earnings to speak for less than an hour. And she said in her her speech, “And I think a problem in our country today is apathy”.

Well, today, I raise my glass to the workers who never quit. The cemetary groundskeepers, the garbage collectors, the custodians, the $8.00/hour stand on their feet all day busy workers who keep the infrastructure held up. The City workers who cut down limbs from power lines, the tired emergency hospital staff when an overflow of injured come in……the dedicated teachers, the bakers who are up at 5:00 am, ambulance, fire, police responders, the cleaning crew on the night shift, taxi drivers, volunteers at shelters, suicide line centers workers on the night shifts, pastors who are called in the middle of the night……I could go on and on, and to those I can’t think of at the moment…….and not to forget the young brave military.

“You can choose to engage in things that tear down or that build up, and I choose to work very hard on a path of fruitfulness for my bank account and for Todd not to have to be productive if he doesn’t want to. I choose not to tear down this house and waste precious time, but to build up a new house right over there and our great country mansions and our industrious, and generous, and patriotic and free people we get to do stuff for us without them charging us money.

On a related note, let’s keep on this Gubernatorial election in the Fall. Don’t let Parnell win just because he is not Sarah. A lot of people beg to differ. He’s just not as flashy. Or breathless. Or confusing. Or vituperative.

This still boggles the mind. How could she think that it was ok to quit the governorship and still be relevant? (even though she never was relevant to start with, I realize) The machine behind her likes to conveniently omit that she QUIT her sworn duty to her state. Why? Why the free pass? The meddling of the McCain campaign in state business hurt all of America and unleashed her inner mean girl on the country…

OK, I did it, I watched this again. Congratulations, Alaska, on being free of the half-term half-wit as governor. Too bad Parnell is continuing in the same vein. (I can sympathize, of course, because our New York governor, Spitzer, resigned, leaving us with the incompetent Paterson, who has f*cked over our natives by forcing them to close down their online cigarette business and to collect taxes for the state, among other things.)

Now for the quittyspeech: I still think Sarah was tweaking. Not only because of the word salad and very heavy breathing (gasping, really), but because her hands were shaking. She’s like a very low rent Eva Peron. I wish the media would hold her to some standards (not high standards, but some standards), rather than reporting all her ghostwritten FB rants and tweets without contradiction (only Rachel & Keith on air, and Geoffrey Dunn, in print, seem to be on to her).

I, for one, am eager to read Dunn and McGinnis’s books. I just wish they were coming out before the midterm elections. I can dream, can’t I?

    Whew. Dear me.

For any right wing who watched her speech, this was GOLD and hope. And for sure, it is happening.
The Repugs found their talking Parrot.

Do not under-estimate this parrot, she is Fox, oil industry, wall street, insurance companies and right wing viagra. There are serious scary statements in that speech if you listen carefully.
The Bitch was pissed for losing to President Obama, and the right wing found her as the best fit to give them rescue. With Fox News, in place, that is all she needed. Greta played a big part in this too.

The speech sounded like more of the revenge speech to me.
In my opinion,She promised the loser party that she will help them get back in power, as long as they drop $$$ in her pocket. She seemed to be excited about money she was promised , that is how I read in her speech, if she helped the losers.
That is what I am hearing in that speech. She was not nervous, but was excited about $$$$ prospects.
Looking back and today, her speech has become a reality.
She is making money by divinding the country, that is the sad part. I just hope the oppositions rise up like 2008, and shut this parrot for good.

That is why she is not fact checked by any media. It is a big scam from the right. Just check the big money guys who are backing her. They do not mind paying for crap meaningless speeches, as long as her viagra dosage continues. If you notice women who support her, they all look depressed and angry. Not happy people.
The problem of letting Sarah go unchecked, is that people will work up oneday just to find that votes have been ringed and she is president.
Those who keep dismissing her that she is a joke, and just making money, should wake up and take this parrot seriously.

I repeat. This woman is no joke at all. She has followers that have access to the system. So do not take her too lightly. Just check the security around her. Do’nt you you put that puzzle together?

The Obama Admnistration kept many of the Bush administration in their system, I suspect some of them are working with this Parrot. Just saying.
I have never seen a private citizen who is guarded the way Sarah Palin is . I am not scared of Palin, but the people behind her scares me, big time. The same people who drowned this country in a big deficit, are the ones hidding behind this Parrot. She is their spokes woman and they worship her, including John McCain. They have money to give her, and she has hatred for the president to deliver hateful and meaningless speeches to keep the momentum going with the haters and all the dead fish that is following her.
Hence all the book deals, and media darling.

    Just my thought.

Happy Anniversary, Sarah, let’s hear that sports analogy again about sticking to the job even when the going is tough.

Remember, too, that she was never able show that the state incurred the extra costs she said it did as a result of those complaints, but did show us how expensive the one she filed against herself was. She took that last junket around the state at our expense (once again, so much for conservative), then walked out on her responsibilities, claiming she didn’t need a title to do good for her state.

Well, Sarah, I see you decided you needed that title after all, since you keep using it, and I haven’t seen you doing anything to help your fellow Alaskans or Americans. You could have used all that fame and fortune for good, and chose not to. Too bad.
