Open Thread – New Life!

This image came just when I needed something hopeful and happy.  Apparently, they all look like Dad.

A mother and six new wolf pups at Toklat, taken just after summer solstice on June 23, 2010. #6 pup is in the bushes at the lower right.

What an awesome picture. We can take an important lesson from the wolves – life endures. In the battle of the species, I’m definitely on the side of the wolves!

Another HOT HOT HOT day in the Baked Apple. We’re running up to the Adirondacks hoping for cool breezes there. Everyone stay cool and hydrated today.

When I was in NYC and it was hot, it felt more like the Steam-Baked Apple. Have felt the Steam-Baked Sunflower, also, too.

        Here it is: 62° F
        Feels Like: 62° F
        Wind: From WSW at 7mph

Sending cooling thoughts all of your overheated way.

Thank you, Beth! I was born on my father’s birthday, so these days are pretty bittersweet. Daddy and I loved wolves. Mother did not. We’d drive up to South Dakota where Daddy would pheasant hunt, Mother would tend to the camp, and I would act as everyone’s dogsbody in exchange for being taken by the Guide to watch for wolves if I were VERY good, and quiet. Wonder of wonders, I always was!

Beautiful picture, Kathleen. Look at that poor Mama. She is wondering about old slug-a-bug in the bush.

Apparently, no one’s minding the store when it comes to abandoned wells.

Fyi, many types of wolf may be born dark and gray out as that get older. Sort of like growing out of your baby fuzz. So those pups may actually look more like momma when they get a bit bigger. :)

Beautiful. I’m so sick of the State of Alaska’s antipredator, shoot them from airplanes, attitude. Seems like every governor supports it…kill kill kill.

Here’s a welcome bit of uplifting news from the Gulf. A man who was working on a skimmer fell overboard and was rescued by the Coast Guard. Because of winds and high waves, it took six hours to rescue the man. The kicker is that the man was NOT wearing a life vest and TREAD WATER FOR SIX HOURS!

I saw an interview of one of the rescuers on the Weather Channel and he said the man was in surprisingly good shape after his ordeal, although suffering from a mild case of hypothermia and a major case of exhaustion.

Says a lot about the survival instinct and the human spirit. Kudos to the Coast Guard for being there despite the danger to themselves, and to the man, Ricky Johnson, who showed true perseverance.

Nice to hear a happy ending to a Gulf story for a change!

Timing couldn’t be better to see wolf pups doing what they do best. Hassle mom. At least she can definitely say that they take after “his side of the family”. ;-)

    Okay, snark follows:

I caught this in my local rag a few minutes ago. I’m very disappointed that he lied then or that he’s lying now that he and $arah “Lite” have swapped spit and made up.

I also note that $arah’s whining, bitching, threatening stalker behaviour about Joe McGinniss (and that ugly-ass fence that Todd the Cod hammered onto an existing fence) was all a scam, as she’s fishing. As per usual for her High pPieste$$ of the Almighty Dollar, this time of year.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Levi Johnston has acknowledged telling lies about Sarah Palin and her family after splitting with the former Alaska governor’s daughter last year.

The 20-year-old tells People magazine in an online story posted Tuesday that since his untrue statements were made in public, “I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize.”

It’s unclear which statements he was referring to, and Johnston could not immediately be reached for comment.

Johnston tells People he was “unhappy and a little angry” after breaking up with his former fiance, 19-year-old Bristol Palin, after their son’s birth in December 2008. He says that against his better judgment, he said things about the Palins that “were not completely true.”

Johnston says he has also privately apologized to Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, and her husband, Todd.

Once you lose your reputation, it’s hard to get back. I hope he uses his time to collect DNA samples from the entire family of grifters, but am not too hopeful since he’s a hormonal kid and has a kid (or two+). I thought they were doomed quite some time back and said so in the comments here like Jan 2009. As long as they are in her orbit, they are screwed, all of the kids including the grandkids. They may have all kinds of money, but they don’t have their integrity, which matters more. It will rot them from the inside out. I’ve worked with people who got rich quick because of a successful publicly traded company, and a dope with money is still a dope, just with money and no better sense. I’m just glad M Johnston seems to have a strong backbone and hope she stays safe in corruptionland.

I think that when you are fighting to get custody or at least see your child all bets are off. He probably realized that seeing his son is more important than fighting with the Palins. Maybe he has matured some, unlike SP who has never gotten out of the high school mode. I think the only one who can bring SP down is SP. When things aren’t going as well as she would like, she might start imploding from the inside because of it.
