Dirty, Sexy Politics – Meet Drama, Stress and Panic.
Meghan McCain’s new book Dirty Sexy Politics has a few interesting nuggets about her father’s former running mate that really don’t come as much of a surprise, including her assessment that Sarah Palin brought “drama, stress, complications, panic and loads of uncertainty” to the losing campaign. Really? She kind of brought that to Alaska, too. [...]

In a brief 2 minute emotional statement, she told Alaskans that she’ll be out of the race officially. Quote of the Day from the Guy Who Beat Joe Miller in 2004
Senate Republican Tea Party candidate Joe Miller has never been elected to public office. He thinks it would be fun to try it out in the United States Senate, representing Alaska. He did try once to run for state representative but he got beaten by a great Democrat, David Guttenberg. So what does he have to say [...]

The Libertarian Party of Alaska said “no go” to Senator Lisa Murkowski switching parties to run on their ticket should Tea Party candidate Joe Miller walk away with the Republican nomination for the senate seat. Wouldn’t you have loved to be a fly on the wall for that meeting? Well, guess what? There was a [...]

Joe Miller Writes-off Unemployed and Senior Citizens.
Lawyer-turned-faux-lumberjack (and Tea Party Republican Candidate for US Senate) Joe Miller made a startling claim last month: that unemployment benefits are “not constitutionally authorized.” According to ABC News: “The unemployment compensation benefits have gotten — first of all, it’s not constitutionally authorized,” Miller, R-Alaska, said on ABC/Washington Post’s “Top Line.” “I think that’s the first thing that’s [...]

Open Thread – In Praise of Black Spruce
Here’s a stand of black spruce, one of the most under-appreciated trees in Alaska in my humble opinion. Most people dislike them and think they’re ugly and spindly and not much of a tree. But they’re one of my favorites. They’re tough little trees in many ways. They can grow in bogs and marshes where [...]
Palin Tattoo the Butt of Jokes…
I really don’t know what to say about this one, except… I’m sorry. There was just no way to warn you adequately, I know. This cheeky work of art graces the backside of a U.S. Marine who sports over 30 other tattoos, and got this one while on a mission here in Alaska. “On the [...]
Republican Circus Continues as Miller/Murkowski Votes are Counted
So, who do you call to preserve the integrity of the vote that you hope will put you in office on an anti-government platform? Why, the government, of course, you silly. Pull up a seat, and enjoy the show, folks. The Republican Party is putting on a three-ring circus and the theme is complete implosion. Sean Cockerham is [...]

Alaska 2010 Primary Night Photo Album
I’m a little late on this one, but here are some pictures I took from Primary Night 2010 at Election Central in downtown Anchorage. Democratic Lt. Governor nominee Diane Benson makes the march to election central with a throng of supporters. Democratic gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Hollis French, and his wife Peggy Surprise (probable) [...]
Joe the Paranoid.
Senatorial candidate Joe Miller (R-AK) – photo by Zach Roberts FIRST he tweets that Lisa Murkowski is a prostitute, THEN he backpedals and throws a volunteer veteran under the bus, NOW it seems that Joe Miller is accusing the Murkowski campaign and the NRSC of election tampering after an attorney was sent to Alaska for [...]

The mouth of the Chuit River, where it empties into Cook Inlet. The beach is wonderful if you’re a rock picker. I left with full pockets. Granite, basalt, quartzite, and beautiful orange agates are some of the many types of smooth stones on the beach.
