Eye Roll Gate? Palin Says ‘Don’t Believe Your Lyin Eyes.’
Yes, it has come to this. Sarah Palin has shown herself once again absolutely unable to let anything pass. She visited the fabulous fishing town of Homer Alaska this weekend. If she were a fish, she’d be an easy catch. Shiny lure? Night crawler? Minnow? Egg-sucking leech? Piece of bologna? Herring? Banana? Doesn’t matter. She’ll snap at anything.
Here’s the scenario. A resident of Homer got the opportunity to speak face-to-face with the ex-half-governor herself. Palin came to town to film an episode of her upcoming TV show, to prove how “real Alaska” she is, to bait hooks with a manicure, and subject citizens on a public dock to a nice frisking by her security detail… you know, to make sure they’re not legally carrying guns. (Shhhhh. Don’t tell the NRA or the Tea party! That might just be a little awkward.)
So while Palin was chatting with Kathleen Gustafson of Homer, and after Gustafson told Palin that she didn’t like how she’d just up and quit her job to become a celebrity, Palin’s daughter asked the woman why on Earth she would say that her mother was “a celebrity.” Mind you, Palin had just deliberately brought her daughter over with her to confront a woman standing by a banner that says “WORST GOVERNOR EVER.” Remember when she brought Piper and Willow out on to the ice at a hockey game in Philadelphia where she knew she was going to get booed? Bringing your kids into situations where you know they’re going to be surrounded by negative statements directed at their parents? Yeah, Mama grizzlies do that all the time.
After the comment, Sarah Palin interrupted her daughter and gushed, “I’m honored! No, she thinks I’m a celebrity!!”
So, we’re now to believe that Palin (who is visiting with her entourage and constitutionally-challenged security detail, to film her TV show for which she is being paid $250,000 per episode) does not think she is a celebrity. But, if she was a celebrity, well, she’d be honored by that. Because celebrityhood itself is honorable. Hmmm. Didn’t used to be. Remember that “celebrity” candidate in 2008 that “lacked real leadership experience?”
Palin then asks, “So, what do you do here?”
Gustafson answers, “I’m a teacher.”
What ensues are four or five wordless seconds in which Palin rolls her eyes so hard that her chin moves up, visibly grimaces twice, cocks her head to one side, and stares knowingly at daughter Bristol with wide eyes. The first time I saw the video, it’s the thing that struck me the most.
Of course, Palin’s father was a teacher, but that was back in the day before public schools were evil and teachers were secret socialists that want to earn decent wages and show our kids video tapes of the president telling them not to drop out, and teach evolution only, and sex education.
I was thinking that teachers everywhere were going to feel a bit like those community organizers did during her acceptance speech for the VP nomination. And I was wondering if she was going to have the sense to let this one go and hope it faded into oblivion, like she should have done with the sign. But instead of ignoring this little unconscious gaffe and moving on, what did our delusional, obsessive, eye-rolling celeb ex-half-gov do?
You guessed it. A brand new Facebook post. And here’s the best part – she not only links to the actual video of the confrontation in front of the giant “WORST GOVERNOR EVER” banner, she asks people to watch it, and then unbelievably denies the eyerolling ever happened.
It’s kind of like when the Branchflower report came out and stated that Palin was guilty of abusing her powers according to the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act, and then she came out immediately with a press release saying how happy she was that she’d been cleared of “any hint” of wrongdoing.
Here’s an excerpt from her latest black is white, up is down, and the sky is green world.
The LSM has now decided to use this brief encounter for another one of their spin operations. They claim I – wait for it – “appear to roll my eyes” when the lady tells me she’s a teacher. Yes, it’s come to this: the media is now trying to turn my eyebrow movements into story lines. (Maybe that’s why Botox is all the rage – if you can’t move your eyebrows, your “eye rolling” can’t be misinterpreted!)
The “LSM” by the way, is “Lamestream Media” as opposed to Mainstream media.
“Wait for it?” Is that what she said? Well, luckily you don’t have to wait for it. I’m going to go out on a limb here. I’ll take it one step beyond the supposed “LSM” that she quoted, but never identified, and say, no. She did not “appear to roll her eyes”. She actually did roll her eyes, and her entire head, and cocked her head, and pulled her lower lip to the side in a giant grimace, and raised her eyebrows while looking at her daughter. And how do I know this? On what do I base this assessment? Let’s see…wait for it… that would be from 1:10 to 1:15 on the YouTube video. You make the call.
Just remember, if you see her rolling her eyes – if you see anything more than an “eyebrow movement” – then you’re part of the “spin operation.” And you’re really lame.
Unbelievably, Palin even links to the eyerolling video in her own post as proof that she didn’t roll her eyes at all. She and her eye rolling were completely misinterpreted by that nasty LSM, she insists. The fact that the story was broken by (and she linked to the YouTube page of) a blogger? The fact that the eyerolling could have won her a medal in the eye-rollOlympics? Hey, if you want to believe your lyin’ eyes, that’s your problem. According to her, the fact that she comes from a family of teachers means that she could not possibly have been rolling her eyes. In Palinland reality is whatever she says it is. And she says she is a victim. Again. And again and again. Aaaand…..again. Perhaps the next small town in Alaska she visits, they’ll all just meet her on the dock with an orchestra of tiny sad violins.
They’ll just have to remember to take them out of the cases so the security goons won’t think they’ve got guns in there and take them away.
And as far as Palin trying to mitigate any collateral damage that her telling facial expressions may have caused? I think that teachers above anyone else, know eyerolls when they see them. And they’re also kind of fond of the first amendment, so don’t mention the part about where the entourage ripped down the sign made by a private citizen and posted on the building of a private business. So good luck with that.

I teach kids in elementary school and the older ones start to feel their oats as they get closer to middle school. If any of my kids dared to do to me what Palin and Daughter did to Kathleen, I would give them what I call my ‘mean teacher look’. It’s very effective for most infractions with all but the littlest kindergarteners (and even they learn what ‘the look’ means by about November!). For the more hard-core attitudes, I add on, “Excuse me????”, and they immediately know they’ve crossed a line.
Palin’s behavior is classic middle school brat and most teachers wouldn’t accept that reaction in a 13 year old. It is downright embarassing in an adult who nearly ended up as VP of the United States! I give Kathleen tremendous credit for being as calm and respectful as she was.

I’ve never met a teacher (or observant parent) that couldn’t spot that eyerollery in a heartbeat. Its usually very quickly countered by that “look” teachers can give so well. Couldn’t see Kathleen’s face, but imagine it was there in her eyes.
For most, that “look” is enough to stop them in their tracks. Apparently not for the ex-gov and family as it takes a bit of awareness which they don’t seem to have. They have no shame.
Kudos to Kathleen for keeping her cool when dealing with that family. Articulate, to the point, and calmly asked questions. Met with gibberish rubbish. I think I’d have lost patience PDQ.

I admit it, I’ve been guilty of an eye-roll or two. It was pointed out to me by one of my daughters because I couldn’t help myself when our then-choir director continually said things that I found annoying. I had to make myself just look down and not make eye contact with him. But at least I didn’t deny it when called on it. I knew when I did it.
And you are right – any teacher of any age group or anyone who has worked with kids knows an eye-roll when they see it, even a slight one. Palin’s eye roll was so obvious I don’t know how she thinks she can get away with calling it anything else. As for the raised eyebrows, even that can have the same implied meaning of an eye roll. Youngest daughter rivals Alan Rickman for being able to convey disdain with that one raised eyebrow. Impressive, it is.
Palin just proves once again that she doesn’t understand basic communication skills, isn’t a grown up and doesn’t know when to just shut up. No one would have known about this if she hadn’t chosen to engage with the sign maker and poster or if she had at least just ignored the video and the post about it. It could all have been a non-story. But she once again acts like the kid in the classroom who would rather have attention for misbehaving than no attention at all.
It’s obvious, as well, that Bristol or whoever has already learned her mother’s lessons well. Too bad. One of those kids should just say no to the messages being taught at the Palin house and break the cycle of bad behavior.

I would suggest many show up with ‘Alaska’s Worst Governor’ signs at the Glenn Beck show on 9/11. It will be held in downtown Anchorage and Palin will be in attendance.

One (of many) things that I didn’t like about her in the 2008 campaign was that she always dragged her kids around with her. The other thing that appalled me, was how rude her daughter was (I think it was Bristol?). Education and manners probably aren’t stressed in that household.

Well, I must admit the idea is good for a chuckle, but even Wasilla doesn’t deserve yet another mayor who can’t run the city without hiring a manager. For the sake of the Wasilla residents who are not connected to the Palin-Heath tribe, I would hope for a mayor with a little bit of formal education and a small amount of administrative ability.
I come from a “family of teachers”…not a family one one teacher, but a family of teachers. That would be 7 teachers…parents, siblings, siblings-in-law and husband and daughter.
That was eye rolling, trust me, it was eye rolling. And we know what it meant or else she would not be backpedalling as hard as she is.
She totally “dissed” the entire population of teachers, current, retired and aspiring, as well as all of those who love and appreciate what they do, and have done, every day…without quitting.
What a nothing she is! No wonder they ‘want their country back”, while they were busy snow blowing, snow racing, fishing, NASCARing, camping and becoming celebrities, the rest of us were driving trucks, teaching, encouraging our kids to get an education, staffing hospitals, shrimping, crabbing, doing the day to day grunt work while trying to improve, taking out student loans, paying them back and voting.
Right….while they all played, we were taking care of business. NOW they want to convince us that they DESERVE to lead? I don’t think so.

Both my husband and I signed. He is a high school teacher. I’ve taught junior college. We both came from lower middle class families who instilled the value of education in us so we wouldn’t have to struggle with the thankless and deadly factory jobs they did.
Sad that if it is true that Sarah comes from a family of teachers that she herself never learned the value of education.
My Grandmother was a teacher. Her constant message was this:
Get an education. Get as much education as you possibly can. Your education is the one thing that nobody can take away from you.
My dad told my sister and I two things when we were growing up:
1. Always walk with God and
2. Get an education because relying on a man to take care of you for the rest of your life is a very bad plan

I was a teacher. Once we were doing a class project which we were video taping to show at back to school night. One of the kids, let’s call him, oh, (fingers tapping) Todd kept jumping up in the middle, mugging the camera, interrupting the others. Kids of the video were calling him by name, “Todd, stop it! It’s my turn.” We had to quit after a very few minutes. Had the parent come in after school to the principal’s office, showed the tape with these very obvious aural and visual cues, turned it off, and she looked at the principal and blandly said, “That’s not Todd.”
I think Kathleen may be the pin to finally pop the Palin bubble. Or at least cause it to leak a little. Good on ya, Ms. Gustafson.
The only slightly bad thing is that while “Worst Governor Ever” is perfect, it doesn’t nickname well. I call upon Mudpups to come up with something suitable.

What’s really amazing about her is that she is absolutely incapable of behaving properly.

Watching Sarah when she’s not “on” is fascinating – all of the Palin posts I’ve read here over the last 2 years have come to life. She oozes mean. Just had to share this little tidbit (and boy, I am hoping Sarah is reading this). Our daughter is in China doing research this month, but we email and Skype with her. She sent me an email from Beijing saying she saw this video, and people are laughing at Sarah big time there.
Says she felt like cringing at first but the tourists, ex-pats and Chinese she’s met all feel Sarah is just a silly fool and don’t judge our country by her – yet. If we elect her, we will be laughed off the world stage altogether.

There is no tolerance for disrespect to elders in the Chinese community, none whatsoever. As a younger person, you are expected to hold your tongue. Even if the elder person is in the wrong and you are getting yelled at for no good reason. You never answer back and you most certainly do not interrupt your mother when she is talking with someone else. That is a huge embarrassment and your parents would be furious at you making them lose face in public. I’m sure most Chinese people think the Palin are horrible parents now – and there is nothing worse in the eyes of the Chinese than not being able to control your children.
Like I said in yesterday’s thread, I would have been in deep deep trouble had I acted that way at Willow’s age to an elder my mum was speaking to, let alone a complete stranger.

A friend of mine ran across Sarah, Todd, and the whole film crew entourage out kayaking in Otter Cove out of Homer on Saturday. The word from one of the trip organizers was that it was “abundantly clear” that Sarah had NO idea what she was doing, and had obviously never kayaked before. How much do you want to bet that won’t quite mesh with the show’s “story line” when it airs?

Keep in mind, as former half term Gov, she rejected Obama’s stimulus funding for education and energy conservation. The legislature over ruled her refusal to take the money in a special session. The session in which they replaced her as Governor.
Perhaps the teacher or anyone who was body searched on public property against their will by Palin’s goons have a potential lawsuit against Palin and TLC (The Learning Channel).
What scares me is the fact that her worshipers at C4P have convinced themselves that Palin did not roll her eyes.

I’ve been convinced pretty much from Day One (or Six, or whatever) that Palin and her administration’s reluctance to hand over those un-redacted e-mails isn’t because there’s anything particular damning in them from a legal point of view, but that it will show off how childish and immature the former Gov. and the people around her are. We’ve already seen little hints of it; like the “Piper said [re: Lyda Green, I think it was] ‘why don’t you just pull her hair’?” A normal parent would have chastised a daughter for saying that, instead, this mom passes it around on professional e-mail to her colleagues as if it’s some sort of gem of wisdom out of the mouth of babes. Disgusting.
Laughing on-air at radio host calling a cancer survivor a cancer and a b1tch, calling a formerly lauded Republican ‘the falafel lady’. Referring to her being decked out from head to toe in Arctic Cat gear as ‘just wearing a warm winter coat”. Calling the two students doing real journalism at CSUS ‘dumpster divers”. Calling Katie Couric ‘the perky one’ in her book, and Andrew Halcro ‘effete’. Saying, when confronted by John Ziegler in his own video (supporter her big time) about what Katie Couric later said about her famous interview on a late night talk show “Because Katie, you’re not the center of everybody’s universe”.
There’s more to this list. But I have to go turn in my grades.

Thanks for telling us where on the video to look for the eye roll. I tried to watch the thing from the beginning and couldn’t stomach it. I hope this ends up on any future political opponent’s campaign ads. What a horrible excuse for a human being.
I followed a link from the story about Levi possibly running for mayor of Wasilla (good grief) to this about Sarah Palin, mean girl. There’s an update to the story that she or her minons are going after Kathleen in a particularly nasty way. Not that any of us should be surprised, but will the woman ever grow up and stop being so hateful and vindictive? Yeah, probably not.

This episode is so silly and a big to-do over nothing, but, once again, Sarah Palin has turned it into a serious confrontation. The episode speaks volumes about Sarah’s total lack of qualification to hold any high office.
Rather than confront someone with a “Worst Governor Ever” sign, Sarah should have just sent over her security detail. Granted, that still would be censorship. A real leader would not get into the scuffle.
Sarah dismissed Kathleen’s job as school teacher in an insulting way. Sarah has probably been afraid of teachers who were always putting those gotcha questions on tests, and showing up poor Sarah’s lack of knowledge, preparation and studying. How dare they!
Sarah may have denied that she was a celebrity, and her daughter informed us that Sarah represents the entire United States. But it is Sarah’s Face Book post that reminds us to be sure and watch her TV show, the one that she was in Homer to film. That’s being a celebrity, not a good will ambassador.
Sarah cannot run for office with such notoriously thin skin. She reacts to every insult, comment, criticism and sign. Her emotional age was the same as the teen aged daughter who accompanied her. I may be giving them too much credit; they both displayed the emotional age of a 12 year old (and I’m being generous). What Sarah could have done was just acknowledge the woman with a dismissive wave, make sure the sign wasn’t in the TV shoot and keep on going. Ignoring Kathleen and the sign would have been so mature. Sarah just can’t let anything get past her.
And to think that all this time I thought she was saying “first Dude” when she was actually saying “first Goon.” It must have been the Alaaaaaaskuh accent that threw me, but now it makes sense.
One of my daughters when she was MUCH YOUNGER use to do the eye-roll thing. She denied it every time… until we put it on video. Unlike Palin, my daughter immediately saw that she actually did roll her eyes… quite often in fact and attempted to control it after realizing it.
It’s unfortunate a child can learn and change when confronted with the reality of a situation, and a grown woman can’t.
Palin is stuck in Junior High School and imo is very happy staying there and never graduating.
I think that every place that Palin goes, somebody should hang a banner or a flag about her being worst governor ever. But don’t use the same words everytime. Mix it up a little bit. In fact get a thesaurus to get different words. If she can’t handle the criticism of one of her fellow Alaskans how could she handle the constant criticism of running for POTUS? I would like to see more Alaskans calling Palin out for what she did as governor. She is the mean girl in junior high or high school who hasn’t woken up and realized that she is supposed to be an adult and act like an adult also. Besides the perpetual victimhood is getting really old and so is the same canned talking points for every discussion or question posed to her. If she can’t remember the Republican talking points what good is she for them?
You don’t really need a Thesaurus for different words. If your brave you can check out posters on any Yahoo news story and you will see all variations of words,especially racial slurs for Black Dems. Oh yeah they have their own interpretations of Quittypants videos.

I have been on yahoo this afternoon and the responses are unbelievable.Let’s just say that a lot of people didn’t watch the video or saw an edited clip. I sent another letter of inquiry to Discovery about this tape and Ms Palin. I got another canned response from them. Identical to my first letter’s response about my concerns over Ms Palin’s political views etc. I feel better. I am afraid that if you think the old guard pols will be missed, you don’t see the same stuff from RWNJ that I do. Have to stir them up on occasion or they kill each other. My condolences to the families of the plane crash. I hope they see this and know they are in my thoughts.
First, my applause to Kathleen Gustafson, the Homer school teacher (and her camera man), who really exposed Payline’s pathetic demeanor when confronted face to face, one on one by a real working person. Hopefully, more Alaskans will provide Payline with continuous face to face discussions on video so all can see the mean crass stupidy of this psychopath. Think about it – this could produce a new TLC segment video entitled See Payline TLC-Totally Lose Control. After all, since Payline told the school teacher she is so concerned about protecting our Constitutional rights, why not put up some signs about neutered Todd’s secessionist politics, or perhaps play the video showing Payline being blessed by a witch doctor or the video showing her face those tough “GOTCHA” questions like — What books do you read? We know now that such questions can actually make a sow grizzly turn tail and run – even with a cub in tow.

I think one of the most irritating parts of this video is Todd Palin walking around like he has something to protect. I saw him once in an airport swelled up with his sense of importance and he behaved just like this. Curiously, the Palins don’t seem to understand one of the basic precepts of the U. S. Constitution. Amendment Four: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
It is outrageous people in Homer succumbed to being searched. It is clear the Palins have no idea regarding the amendment and are running rampant and roughshod. It is clear Homer residents were unschooled in their own constitutional rights. This is why people like Palin are able to be the scoundrels they are. Educate yourselves!

The first two words *affected manner* are the tip-off.
It is very easy to confuse Histrionic Personality Disorder with
Borderline Personality Disorder and the two can be co-morbid.

Love this site and love the people of Alaska for “refudiating” the palins. I would hope that after this, all teachers will rally against $paylin and continue to help her expose herself. I sure wish Ms. Gustafson would speak up or some one do an interview with her. She should relish in her 15 mins of fame and help our country get rid of this joke. Sarah really doesn’t need any help destroying herself, I just wish it could move a little quicker.

Palin and her thugs lying about Gustafson’s not being a teacher is nothing new. Remember that the white farmer couple that was helped by Shirley Sherrod and defended her also were gone after (“they aren’t really married”, etc.). And the children who were helped by S-CHIP had wingers peeping thru their home’s windows (they aren’t really poor). And the young man from Seattle who was at the signing of the health care bill, whose mom died at age 27 because she didn’t have health care – his family and dead mother were gone after. These people have NO SHAME. NO SHAME.
