The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Dirty, Sexy Politics – Meet Drama, Stress and Panic.

Meghan McCain’s new book Dirty Sexy Politics has a few interesting nuggets about her father’s former running mate that really don’t come as much of a surprise, including her assessment that Sarah Palin brought “drama, stress, complications, panic and loads of uncertainty” to the losing campaign.

Really?  She kind of brought that to Alaska, too.

Just saying.

“Katie Couric’s interview with her before the vice presidential debate had been disastrous. Unhappy with her performance, Palin seemed to blame the interview on the campaign. And she continued to blame other poor interviews and snafus on the campaign too,” McCain writes. “Sarah Palin. She was turning out to be somebody who leaves a wake of confusion and chaos — to the point of dizziness — wherever she went.”

We go on to learn that in addition to blaming everyone else for her own incompetence, Palin snubbed Cindy McCain, wasn’t a team player, and caused general upheaval wherever she went.  And yet, somehow McCain still feels conflicted about her feelings for Palin, rehashing the “she brought such energy to the campaign” meme.  McCain apparently feels that the Republican Party has room for both social liberals, and the new brand of socially rigid fringy right wing whack jobs to join hands and sing Kumbaya.

I don’t want to be the one to break it to McCain, but will someone please tell her that she’s a Democrat and that the “new Republican Party” doesn’t want her, or her mavericky broad mindedness?  Intolerance is their mantra.  The only question is how intolerant Americans will allow themselves to become before the pendulum begins to swing the other way.

Why do I get the feeling that no one really wants to cross Palin as long as they want to stay in politics??

I think if some of them said what they really meant, there would have to be a new bus brought in for others to be thrown under….they other one is too crowded.

If the rest of her book has the grammar and style of the last sentence in the quoted paragraph, it will certainly be a hard slog.

Meghan won’t say anything of value about Palin. It would reflect badly on Daddy, and little Meggie can’t have that.

What, Palin snubbed Cindy McCain? Didn’t she know that Cindy was the one with the money?

Well, we all know what Mac’s favorite pet name was for his replacement wife. Sure Palin knew it too and acted accordingly.

Which one is Meghan in the picture?

If it’s GOP politics, it’s “dirty,” but definitely not “sexy.”

Is it just me, or is that book cover disturbing… it’s almost as if she’s going for the erotica look? *Very* suggestive. To my mind, quite eerie and extremely odd…and *not* in a good way. beth.

You’re not not alone in that thought, especially with the title of the book being “Dirty, Sexy Politics”.

My thought was, “what are they going for?” It disturbed me too, and I’m not a prude about things like that. I want in what way the book is “sexy”.

I didn’t think it was sexy/bad. I think it’s kind of cute, except that the elephant appears to be yawning, which does not bode well for the book.

    from ADN:

Alyeska is owned by BP, Conoco Phillips, Exxon Mobil, Koch Industries and Chevron, the companies that also own the pipeline. [Emphasis mine]

Now I wonder who owns Koch Industries? The plot thickens.

I lost respect for her that time on the Bill Maher (sp?) show, when she made a statement, was unable to support it with facts, and fell back on, “I’m just the blonde in the corner over here.”

I suppose Scooter Libby could have suggested the book cover. I would guess he is still around and available for a price. I want to once more say thank you mudflats and mudpuppies for a really neat place to come to and find a bit of sanity.

not quite sure how she is going to explain how karl rove makes politics sexy……..dirty yes, sexy no.

i hope she at least gets a boyfriend after this travesty…….a girl needs to have her needs met.
    just saying.

last thought — why can’t she talk normally? why the valley girl inflection? it is quite irritating.

“I am so unlike her” at about 3 minutes

my response: gag me with a spoon (a true valley girl-ism)

Pitch me with a fork, after you rip it from Ellie Mae Palin’s icy grip. She uses the bumpit to conceal the horns and I don’t want to know where she tucks the tail. Just wish she would “tuck tail and run” back under the rock from which she crawled.

No, Meghan – the Republicans DO NOT see you as a “New Republican” – they see you as a Liberal. In fact, the Republican party has gone to the far, far right – so far right that today, Jesus would be considered a Liberal in the Republican party.

Neither the writer (Michael Joseph Gross) nor the commenters felt Meghan McCain’s need to hold back on describing. Those he iterviewed – and he talked to lots of people who have gotten up close and personal with Sarah, to their eventual sorrow and disillusionment – paint a really nasty picture. Good reading, jam-packed with colorful anecdotes.

    POLITICS
(Headline) Sarah Palin the Sound and the Fury
(Summary) Even as Sarah Palin’s public voice grows louder, she has become increasingly secretive, walling herself off from old friends and associates, and attempting to enforce silence from those around her. Following the former Alaska governor’s road show, the author delves into the surreal new world Palin now inhabits—a place of fear, anger, and illusion, which has swallowed up the engaging, small-town hockey mom and her family—and the sadness she has left in her wake.

Meghan teased long before her Dad’s primary campaign began, that she had just finished the Palin chapter of her book and it’s juicy. She made it clear in interviews The View, Bill Maher, CNN) that she would talk about everything, BUT Sarah Palin. It was clear she despised her. Then perpetual loser, John McCain was in trouble in his home state re-election. He needed Sarah Palin. It was clear that Meghan had to change her chapter on Sarah and soften it up. Last night she was on O’reilly and made her opinion of Sarah Palin sound like a simple disagreement on issues, a difference of “social republicans and christian republicans. In all these interviews, Meghan makes sure she sucks up to Palin, even though she has a few little observations that may not be most flattering but more importantly, wants to make sure everyone knows, she’s not blaming Palin for losing the election! BS!

Little Cindy, like our own Sarah, is just another attention whore. Without Daddy Walnuts she wouldn’t get the time of day from the media or anyone else. I put Cindy and Sarah in the same category as Paris Hilton; vacuous noise machines trying to make the most of nothing at all. It is, of course, classic American hucksterism, but no less annoying.
