Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Miller v. McAdams – Open Doors and Divine ATMs

Remember how God opened a door for Sarah Palin, and she just had to walk through?  Well, apparently God is back on the stump here in Alaska, but now instead of just opening doors (like the one he eventually slammed on ol’ whatsername’s head in November of 2008), look what he’s up to.

A recent campaign email stated:

We don’t want to loose the momentumn of this great campaign!! We are going to get Joe Miller elected, it’s just that for reasons we don’t understand God wants us to have a waiting spell. :) We need to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves, and keep the campaign uplifted in constant prayer.

In order for Joe to keep campaigning he needs funds. So far the Lord has always provided the money in this grass roots campaign, and this time God is going to use you to provide!

A fundraiser will be held at Campaign Headquarters on Monday from 5:00-8:30 pm. We need as many people to show up and make this a great event for the campaign.

Looks like God got a little testy after spending all his personal mad money on the primary race, and wasn’t too pleased about being hit up for the general.  So, now he’s using you, yes you my friend, as his personal ATM machine in the run to November.  Because frankly up until now, you haven’t been pulling your weight and God says “Fork it over.”

The “waiting spell :) ” that the letter mentions, refers to the fact that the Tea Party Express (aka Miller’s Sugardaddy) has decided that Miller’s campaign will be “smooth sailing” from this point out, and no longer needs their help.  With McAdams, who until recently was a virtual unknown, a mere six points behind in a poll with a margin of error of 4.5%, the Tea Party Express is awfully cocky.  Or they just want to be long gone and not blamed for a potential loss in November.  In any case, they’ve moved on to greener pastures to go help the whackjob du jour in Delaware.  The only ones sad to see them go are the Miller crowd, and the Anchorage media market who benefited from an influx of cash the likes of which are seldom seen in a primary race.

But, fear not.  The man who claims to have taken no outside money (um…except the Tea Party thing, but let’s not talk about that) has reportedlywooed and won over K Street fundraiser Mike Gula to start raking in the very outside money he recently reviled.  But that was yesterday and this is today.

Remember last week when you were supposed to give Joe Miller money because you just knew that Lisa Murkowski was going to sue him over the ballot count?   Instead, she took the high road and bowed out gracefully, while simultaneously allowing the McAdams campaign two solid extra weeks of organization and fundraising.  Doh!  So, they had to come up with some other reason and “God wants you to” seemed as good as any.

And while God is busy “using you to provide” for Joe Miller whose moral compass tells him to cut social security for seniors, and Medicare for the sick, and the Department of Education for kids who aren’t being home schooled, Scott McAdams is having fundraisers of his own.  He is now the number one fundraiser at Act Blue, and was the rock star at a fundraiser in his honor at the home of Hollis French last night.

No serpents, no doves, no divine ATM machines, or fear-mongering about impending lawsuits - just a bunch of really excited Alaskans coming together to promote a candidate who has Alaska’s best interest at heart.

In the overall calculation of things this race matters most as a McAdams win. If he can pull it off it will not only be good for Alaska but the country as a whole. I hope he can.

This would be an opportune time for Obama to make an appearance as well that would have a national effect. If he were to come to Alaska just to endorse and boost McAdams chances it would stir things up quite a bit, give him an excellent opportunity to contrast the radical and ridiculous position of the republicans and cast his giant shadow over the quitter from Wasilla. Sounds to me like a win win win.

What a mess Ms P has made. This is crazy. I will donate to McAdams. (We have a chance for a Dem Gov, Bill White,(such a good, kind man) so i’m feeling the enthusiasm to turn these red states to blue. Holding my breath with hope.)

It reminds me of a refrigerator magnet I have. It’s a tongue-in-cheek response to the holier-than-thou “What Would Jesus Do?” bumper sticker favored by Joe Miller’s type of (false) Christians. (“Xstians, if you will). It says “Jesus would slap the $#!+ out of you.” No doubt.

“It cost alot of money to run a clean campaign and we all know that Joe’s campaign isn’t receiving any monies from corporations or from out of State entities.” — from the latest Miller fundraising plea.
    __________________________

Yup, I bet they all DO ‘know’ he’s *not* “receiving any monies from corporations or from out of State entities.”

“But, *How* do they all *Know* this vitally crucial detail about Miller’s funding source(s)?”, you ask.

Because Miller’s campaign has *told* them he isn’t receiving any…*That’s* how!

(And here you were, having doubts about them *not* knowing about Miller’s funding… you silly doubter, you! He *told* them, for heaven’s sake!)

Sheesh! What’s with these gung-ho Repub/T-baggers/Talibangelicals that they can’t –or won’t!– check things out for their selves? That they can’t –or won’t!– hold *their* candidate accountable for what *their* candidate (and/or the candidate’s campaign) says? About *Any Thing*!

Why do they take –hook, line, andsinker– what they’re fed without asking o.n.e…s.i.n.g.l.e question? Are they ALL really just That danged detached from sanity, reality, and/or logic, or what?

Oytch — they make me ill…the whole ruddy lot of ‘em. beth.

(And, as I said over in today’s “Open Thread â We Got McMentum!”, ALL voters in Alaska should get/be sent this plea from LumberjackJoe. Heck, if he has intentions of representing *all* Alaskans, why not ‘help’ him by sharing it with *all*? I can’t think of an easier way to help McAdams off to DC as a Senator from Alaska, than by letting voters *know* –verbatim!– who and what Miller, is. b. http://www.themudflats.net/2010/09/03/open-thread-we-got-mcmentum/#comment-216192 )

I’d also take issue with “clean campaign.” When you run a clean campaign, you don’t lie about your opponent, distort their voting record, pull their quotes out of context, or call them names. Joe has done all of the above, and surrounded himself with some pretty questionable people to boot.

Shouldn’t the “loose” in “loose the momentumn” also actually be “lose”?

A lot of the Tea Party people do not seem able to spell the word “lose” in the adn comments section either. And they have used that word a lot lately, you know, because Lisa Murkowski is such a “looser”.

(The “Buenos aires” is a reference to what fell out of $Ps mouth at a fundraiser in Hamilton, Ontario, on 15 April. It’s hard to figure what the motivation is of whoever is really behind the money, because they’ve basically set up a crapshoot between a Progressive Democrat and a lunatic.

It’s a little surprising that they’re not continuing to fund him and give him a better shot at actually winning. I would have thought having another neophyte who can be led around by his nose in the senate would be their goal.

What exactly do they intend to do with the money, or IOUs in SS?

Presumably, they have figured a way to get their grubby hands on it and shovel to to their BB buddies.

Somebody needs to ask them what they are going to do with the SS money if they suddenly stop using it for SS.

It is also truly mind boggling that no MSM or even blogger that I have seen has asked that.

My health prevents me from running an intense race. However, I ain’t that unhealthy to speak out against the hate and bigotry projected by Palin McQuittyPants and Saint Beck.

Alaska Native Women have done some really great things here. Once a group of Native Women were tired of all the drinking in their village. The men out numbered the woman and kept voting no to ban alcohol sales in their community. That didn’t stop them. The Native Woman put the measure on the ballot again. On the day to cast their votes, the Women bought lotsa booze, gave it to the men and they got so drunk, they missed the vote and the Women won! Another time, the men balked at one of our resolutions. We stood up, went to the microphone and announced, ” You men either pass this resolution, or we’re going to tell all your wives not sleep with you any more.” The resolutions passed with flying numbers.

run herself for president..can you imagine that? some say it would be a sure lost for her
and any party that backs her..one would hope that the American voter would just easily
see that would happen..but leave nothing to chance in todays time. Beck is of course
just using God..any and everything to sell books and who knows what else.. unbelieveable
that people like BecK..can fool anyone.. Miller is just as off base.

I LOVE this site and AKM. It just makes my day and gives me a few good laughs from all you folks with the great sense of humor, even though we all realize Miller is no joke – or is he?
Some of these nutty quotes reminded me of some time ago watching a video of Palin speaking at her “church” telling all of her faithful to be sure and pray for the gas line because God wanted it. (I bet none of you knew God wanted a gas line . See,, if you don’t talk to God, you just don’t know these things) It just amazes me how all of these right wing nuts talk to God. Years ago all the “God Talkers” were locked up in insane asylums. Now they are out, talking in “tongue” in Palin’s “church”.

A friend of mine told me god told her something and my response was “really?…how did he talk to you? Did you get to talk to him face to face?” I really wasn’t trying to be obnoxious (well not too obnoxious). I wanted to know. It could have been an interesting conversation but she was doesn’t talk to me anymore. She just said “you are a non-believer” and turned away. Oh well.

To All Alaskans, Please attend the Anti Beck & Palin Rally to Stop Spreading Hate in Anchorage on September 11 on the parkstrip at the Flag Pole from 11 am to 1 pm. At noon we will walk two blocks to the Denaina Center where Beck and Palin are lyin….er..speaking and continue the rally there. Please bring your signs and voices. Alaska has no room for hate. My sign will read, WORST LIARS EVER!

We need people with cameras and gizmos to let the world know that ALASKANS DENOUNCE HATE AND BIGOTRY.

Palin will dangle Todd out to show she isn’t a bigot to say, ” Looky, I married a Native, I CAN’T BE A RACIST.”

Her “security” may be there. Remember, this is a non violent event. Don’t respond to their taunting or any violence with violence. It’s what they want us to do.

    therefore too then again also

Shouldn’t your sign say “BEST LIARS EVER” . “Worst” would imply they were not adept at lying.

If I could be there my sign would say:

      KOCH+ PALIN = FASCISM

or the famous Sinclair Lewis saying: When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.

I like the “best liars ever” thingy. However, that would give them credit where it isn’t due. They ARE the worst liars ever……they didn’t fool me or a buncha others. What lousy street cred: not even good at lying. (chuckle)

Millie, I don’t know about national coverage. I hope so.

Because it is the anniversary of September ll, there will be two rallies symbolic of the Twin Towers. One will be on the parkstrip and the other that evening at the Denaina Center. One is to bring to light, one is to shed light.

CanadianGuy, Scott McAdams has a lot on his shoulders right now, and given the nastiness showed by the Miller’s campaign during the primary, I don’t know if I would be all smiles if I were in his shoes. I think at this time he needs all the support we can offer.

      Yes, typo. D’oh.

Given he’s not that far back, and all the fundraising efforts, he should be happy, and the concern is obviously if he can’t be happy now, how happy is he going to be two or three months into a gruelling campaign? Half of all politics is charisma, and early on, this would be my concern. He’s knowledgeable, personable, etc., but Nixon lost to Kennedy in 1960 because of visual presentation and charisma.

I am sure his campaigm team is work on that aspect of it – smile, smiile, smile, until your face cracks. That’s as important in a campaign as anything.

Giving $600,000 to a candidate in a primary and then withdrawing that support during the election makes no sense what so ever. That $600,000 was an huge investment with a huge potential pay off of a Tparty politician in the Senate. Why are they throwing that away? What’s going on? Is it just stupidity or is something else in the wind?

I don’t live in Alaska, but I think that Miller’s such a turd, that I decided to do some internet opposition research on him. I searched the Anchorage paper, and one of their regular bloggers said many unpleasant things about him, a fellow Republican, no less. Apparently, to know Joe is to love him:) (The link is at the bottom of the article).

After storming off the stage at the March 2008 Republican convention in Anchorage, Joe Miller quit the Republican Party. In October 2009 he decided he was a Republican again and in April 2010 showed up as a delegate at the Republican convention in Juneau. Compared with 2008, he maintained a low profile. We exchanged pleasantries and even shared a table at the Friday night banquet.
Conventioneers were electing a Party Chairman on Saturday afternoon but Miller still wasnt interested in that job. In fact, about a week earlier a rumor had begun circulating that he had set his sights much higher and would challenge Lisa Murkowski for the United States Senate seat in the August Primary election. He had shared his plans with several others, including state Sen. John Coghill.
Lisa was the speaker at Saturdays convention luncheon. District 3 chair Ben Brown and I took seats toward the back and Miller sat at the next table over. When Lisa wrapped up her remarks but before the luncheon ended, I turned my phone back on and it immediately rang. The caller was a political acquaintance wondering if Miller had announced against Lisa yet. I asked the caller to hang on, laid the phone on the table and told Ben what I was going to do.
I walked over to where he was sitting and looked Miller directly in the eye.
So, I said. Are you going to announce against Lisa?
With indignation in his voice, he replied, Absolutely not, Paulette!
Im sorry, but that rumor is all over this convention and I just wanted to hear it from you straight, I said.
Paulette, he replied, If I were going to run dont you think I would have announced BEFORE the convention?
You know, I said. Two years ago you did some pretty squirrelly things so I guess its not surprising people are making stuff up about you.
One more time he clearly reiterated to me that he was not going to challenge Lisa.
Two days later he channeled Obama by using the state Capitols marble columns and big stage steps as the backdrop to unfurl an expensive, professionally designed Joe Miller for the U.S. Senate banner.
Iâll be the first to say itâs Millerâs constitutional right to run for office and itâs also his right to keep it a secret if he wants to. I certainly wasnât more entitled to the information than anyone else, but I wasnât less entitled either. How could someone auditioning for the United States Senate look a potential constituent in the eye and plainly lie? It begs a few questions, like what else does he think it’s okay to lie about? Some might think that his lying to me specifically was okay. Well then, who else? When else?
Also, did Miller gain anything by keeping his news secret for another forty-eight hours? No. Did Lisa do something that changed his mind between the end of her speech and his announcement? Don’t think so. Why did he have a problem answering a simple and direct question? Remember former Sen. Alan Simpsonâs famous quote? “If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don’t have integrity, nothing else matters.”
Iâm beginning to think Miller suffers from a personality disorder. We know from his amateurish performance at the 2008 Republican convention that he acts impulsively and irresponsibly – ignoring reality and failing to count his votes. And for someone whoâs never been elected to anything, his sense of self-importance seems wildly inflated.
With his well-rehearsed lines and fake bodyguards, its inevitable that some will be drawn to Millers act, but Im still not buying the script. He doesnt get the rules, he cant work the system and hes not honest. Hes a bearded, unfamous Lindsay Lohan. Another warped drama queen.

Has anyone got even an inkling of what this event is all about? I still like my conspiracy theory that Joe is going to retire from the race and hand the position over to Palin so she can get 2 years of credible political experience before she runs for president.

Remember; just because you’re a conspiracy nut doesn’t mean there isn’t plotting going on. LOL
