Open Thread – We Got McMentum!

~Governor Tony Knowles, and Mayor Scott McAdams

Former Governor, meet future Senator!

Turnout was excellent for all our fundraisers, but the Scott McAdams shindig was definitely the hot ticket tonight.  Scott got to meet and greet a bunch of eager supporters.  His appearance on the Rachel Maddorw Show inspired many new contributions, and Scott is also now the #1 candidate on Act Blue, and was endorsed by the AFL-CIO, and the Swing State Project.

At the taping of tonight’s Moore up North, former Republican legislator and Independent gubernatorial candidate Andrew Halcro said that for a Miller v. McAdams race, he’d be voting for Scott Mcadams!  Republican Party insider Paulette Simpson also wrote a scathing piece on Miller.

Halcro’s endorsement is excellent news! Yeah Andrew! He’s so sensible, whether I agree with him or not. Always sensible.

Here’s what Murkowski should do – hubby and I have it all lined out…

She can’t throw in behind Miller – after what he has said, and his Palin backing, she just can’t.
She could stay quiet, and endorse no one, but people would push and push. And look like a wimp.

Or..she can throw in behind McAdams by saying he is the best choice for Alaska. That way, a lot of moderate I, U N and R voters might gravitate her way for being more Alaska minded than party minded, and she could even run against Begich in four years. She’d have a lot of support, and nothing to lose from what she has now. Then she could run again in two years if that didn’t work out.

If she chooses to stay quiet so she won’t be accused of her “radical liberal agenda”, then she doesn’t have Alaska’s best interests at heart, only her own.

Best of all – if she throws in behind McAdams, many of Ketchikan’s voters will follow. They are the third largest city in Southeast, and more conservative than Sitka and Juneau. If Ketchikan votes McAdams, he has Southeast AK. Anchorage will be split. Interior will go for Miller. The Kenai Peninsula will go for Miller, minus Homer for McAdams. Western and rural Alaska – they would go for McAdams as long as the truth is made very clear about how dangerous Miller would be for any rural village or community. And women. Count ‘em up (with the critical rural AK votes), and McAdams wins.

This is my request to Lisa, along with my hope that we can raise funds and awareness (esp. in rural Alaska) about Miller so that he may defeated soundly. A Palin hissy fit would be a fabulous bonus, but certainly not the main intention.

    Go Lisa! Endorse McAdams.

Okay sounds wonderful and plausible. But, just playing a little chess match in my head here.

Lisa seemed (from the lwr48 perspective here) to get a lot of her war campaign chest from the oil industry. A likely reason Lisa balked at increasing the penalty caps for damages from the Gulf gusher it appeared. (Which was the main reason Scott decided to run against her and he’s been very vocal about that, which is a major reason I’ve been donating to him).

Joe Miller also appears to be getting the bulk of his advertising from the Tea Party aka Koch Brothers aka oil industry. What was it, $600,000 in donations just for the primary?

It remains to be seen. I truly prefer your scenario.

Others have commented that Scott needs to get a makeover to make him look more elite or senatorial. Personally, I think he looks more genuine and sincere as he is. Better than trying to grow a quick beard and wear a clearly new plaid shirt to “LOOK” Alaskan. I think Scott’s obvious take on the subjects, like the Alaskan economy and jobs, SS, Medicare & Medicaid looks a whole lot more compelling – than an out of state carpetbagger. I sure would vote for him, speaking as a retired, handicapped person myself if I were up there, because he seems like a ‘rill Alaskan’.

I think Knowles endorsement (not just the endorsement but the BIG ass smile in this picture which says a lot) and Halcro’s endorsement are SUPER PLUSES!

Good luck! I need to find more money to donate because as a Senator, Scott will have impact on all of us as well in the lwr48. Plus, I really would like to see you all get a Senator that will serve Alaskans the best he can as a public servant.

Ketchikan will NOT take kindly to miller only being in Alaska 15 yrs. and then thinking he has the ability to guide Alaska in D.C., when he has NO clue about S.E. Alaska. He probably does not understand why we have a ferry system, nor could he really care less about it. Does he even have a clue about our commercial fisheries…No…who would he put in place as his fisheries czar in D.C.? He has no concept. Southeast will NOT be impressed. I have NO idea who Scott would put in as his fisheries go-to person on his team in D.C. But since he is familar with our fisheries here in S.E. he will know who to ask to be on his team to evaluate any potential fisheries czars to help him in D.C. He does have the background working with tribal governments…he needs to expand more on that. I do know that the Eskimos out West want nothing to do with miller. They don’t like him, nor do they trust him. He might as well have flown into Bethel with cookies like Sarah did…that’s how out of touch he is with their needs. miller’s (i refuse to put in proper caps for his name) terrible tweet about Senator Murkowski has offended many around the State. Senator Murkowski’s husbands family has eskimo in them…her children are of eskimo blood. They really like and care for Senator Murkowski….insulting her, was a direct insult to them.

You are spot on! If anyone in Southeast votes for the whack nut, then they really are uninformed. We will get zero representation – has the whacko even been here? I loved getting your take on Western AK, we just need to spread the word.

I met up with AKM in Anchorage and we talked signs, lots of signs! Need money for those signs, so I’m donating as much as I can. Hopefully we can do some printing locally and avoid the usual freight chgs and delays of having everything come out of Anchorage. SE got totally left in the dust during the presidential election for signs – I donated my energy refund to remedy that but the ones I ordered directly from Obama’s website weren’t going to make it til like 3 days before the election. The Anchorage printed ones never did make it here.

Hence, my blog name! It was a long story, but I just summed up the importance of signs by adding them to my name.

YARD SIGNS, YARD SIGNS, YARD SIGNS – we need ‘em! A donation of $5 – $10 buys SIGNS!

That article is brilliant. My favorite parts (including a new name for SP):

“Sarah Palin, self-described leader of the Tea Party, is our own reigning Poujadist Princess, leading the exploitation of those very people whose cause she purports to champion.”

      And this:

“But here’s the best part: Poujade’s party took more than 50 seats in the National Assembly but once there, they fell rather silent. It seems that when they had to actually govern, they didn’t have a lot to contribute.

It’s easy to make up jingles of opposition, but not so easy to come up with solutions.

So when everything you read is selling you no hope, when the economy certainly backs that up, when you are down and out, you are ripe for the picking. Left or Right, you are an easy target when you give in to despair. Despair is the wolf at the door of change. “

This is a perfect comment posted on the CNN website regarding the Gov. of Arizona’s latest media dodge (after her disastrous debate debacle):

Peg, Carrollton, TX September 3rd, 2010 12:13 pm ET

It started with Sarah Palin who was running for VP of our country; she said during a VP debate that she wasn’t there to answer questions that were asked that she was just going to tell us what she wanted to say. Follow her with Sharon Angle who ducks reporters questions all the time. And now the governer of AZ. What makes these women think they are not answerable to the public when running for public office.

Nobody ever said that politicians (of all stripes and gender) have to like the questions but if we are putting them in charge, then they become answerable to us. When politicians hide from questions, it makes me question everything they do.

This is exactly what Palin did, as well as cozy up to all the groups she pretended to be like, when she wasn’t undermining work done by others by misrepresenting facts and playing on emotions for her personal gain.

Personally, I believe the Miller fundraising letter should be sent to EVERY voter in Alaska. Now! And often!

I mean, why should only the Republicans/T-Baggers/Talibangelicals up there in AK be ‘graced’ with such a wonderful missive? Who, after all, wouldn’t just *love* to know –verbatim– LumberjackJoe’s appeal for funding? Hey, if what he’s saying is good for him to send to *some* Alaskans, it should be good for him to send to *ALL* Alaskans, no? Isn’t he wanting to represent ALL Alaskans? Yup, it should *definitely* be shared with ALL — in the spirit of: “Get to Know Your Next Senator”, and all that jazz…

And I bet you just about Any Amount, *IF* the AK Dems, Indys, moderate Republicans, and Undecided get to read what Dear LumberjackJoe is telling *his* followers, (and *IF* they know about $ from ‘G-d’-Koch, ‘G-d’-K-Street, ‘G-d’-Tea Party Express, ‘G-d’-etc by *your* gently sharing it with them), they’ll be out in *DROVES* at the November polls to *ensure* McAdams goes to DC!

    Greetings,

We don’t want to loose the momentumn of this great campaign!! We are going to get Joe Miller elected, it’s just that for reasons we don’t understand God wants us to have a waiting spell. :) We need to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves, and keep the campaign uplifted in constant prayer.

In order for Joe to keep campaigning he needs funds. So far the Lord has always provided the money in this grass roots campaign, and this time God is going to use you to provide! [emphasis added. b]

A fundraiser will be held at Campaign Headquarters on Monday from 5:00-8:30 pm. We need as many people to show up and make this a great event for the campaign. Joe and Kathleen will both be joining us, let’s encourage them by showing all the support we can. The one way they need us right now is through donating funds!! It cost alot of money to run a clean campaign and we all know that Joe’s campaign isn’t receiving any monies from corporations or from out of State entities.

    Refreshments will be provided

    MONDAY 5:00-7:00pm OPEN HOUSE

7:30-8:30pm FUNDRAISER (Joe Miller will be joining us at this time)

Invite all your friends and let’s come together to have a great evening and donate to the campaign that we all believe in!!

    Please RSVP with ASAP:

    – Harmony

–BTW: Nevermind the serpents and doves — what is an “ASAP” that folks are supposed to be “RSVPing” with? And does LumberjackJoe even *know* what “a clean campaign” (and its aftermath) is? Lisa would probably say: “Nope”. b.
