Spotted About Town – “Dance Bristol Dance”

In this season of political signs, Anchorage print shops are bustling with activity.  But not all signs are what you might expect.

Mudflatter Soapy got a surprise when he happened across a pile of signs fresh off the presses that are seemingly destined for out-of-state use.

It’s reported that Sarah Palin will be in attendance when daughter Bristol appears on the season opener of Dancing With the Stars on Monday. So if you’re watching, keep an eye out to see if they might pop up somewhere.

TMZ reports:

Our spies say security has been “beefed up” for Sarah’s appearance.

And get this … We found out the song Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas will dance to — in front of Mama Palin.  It’s Three Dog Night’s, “Mama Told Me (Not to Come).”  Classic.

That ain’t your grandma’s doily.

Be sure and vote for the choice of the good dancers

MAKE SURE BRISTOL DOES NOT GET THE VOTES AS HER MOTHER IS CONTROLLING THE EVENT.

JUDGES I HOPE ARE NOT BEING BOUGHT BY SARAH PALIN.

BRISTOL GO HOME AND LEARN TO BE A HONEST PERSON AND STOP THE LIES, WE ALL KNOW THAT YOUR SARAH LIES AND SHE HAS LIED ABOUT HER PREGRANCY THAT IS PHONEY, BRISTOL HOW ARE YOUR TWO BOYS DOING. OR IS LEVI REAL FATHER OF EITHER ONE OF THEM. BE HONEST AND BE HONEST WITH THE CANDIES You are taking money and making a mockery of young teen girls, you give the wrong signal. How about your own sisters, what a role model you are.

You have exposed your blonde blue eyed and fair skin baby to a lot of attenton for your ego and your mothers.

  2. saphire says:

    she looked cheap, nasty, yuck

  3. Steve says:

I seriously doubt that Bristol knows that over half the nation hates her bullying mother. Bristol lives in a bubble called the Palin compound. Remember that cell cam where Sarah & Bristol confront and mock the teacher with the “worst governor ever” sign and rolled eyes because of this woman’s career choice? The best part was when Bristol cuts in and takes her shot at the teacher to defend her mom, saying “she represents the United States” now, not just Alaska. And yes, Bristol also said to this woman, “You’re an A-hole”. Then Palin’s goons ripped the sign down which was on private property. Charming family values, eh?

Bri$tol Palin is WEAK because she was “bought” with the lures of cars, fast tabloid money, high paying speeches, fame, etc. to completely do a 180 by her mother to change her mind – Bristol was against “unrealistic” abstinence before she was all pro-abstinence. Privately, I wonder if she’s on birth control or is she still anti sex education (or any education for that matter) like her mother?

  4. Zoom Zoom says:

Lol, what a full house. Bristol packs them in just like her mother is.

  5. Zoom Zoom says:

    1) She does not photograph well at all. 2) How is Bristol gaining weight well everyone else is losing 10 pounds? 3) Who is her babysitter and who is watching Tripp?

    Have you met Bristol Palin?
I have. She’s a nice girl. I think she’s a little bit out of place and a little nervous about it because everybody’s else is used to being in the industry…I think she’s going to have to do a shot before she dances.

  6. WAAngel says:

I have never watched the show, so they won’t miss me not watching it. I have to say I feel sorry for her ONLY in as much as she doesn’t seem to know or care what a crock she is as long as there is money in it. What happened to her “consulting” business? Did someone tell her mother she would get questioned for hiring her when she has no experience. OH! I guess no one talks to the Palinista about experience.

  7. Zyxomma says:

Those who watch DWTS can vote any way they choose. I could care less; it’s not a show I watch (nor do I watch American Idol or America’s Got Talent, or any of those popularity contests).

Far more important to me is that progressives/Democrats/moderates who care about this country and its future get to the polls in November. This year, I’m particularly concerned that AK voters vote. Scott for Senator!

  8. bb says:

Because of mama I won’t be watching this year! My stomach can take only so much. 🙂

  9. dreamgirl says:

If hard drinking, unwed mother Bristol Palin had Black, brown or even “Cafe au Lait” skin coloring, I’m sure she would not be getting the teabaggers votes or even be part of DWTS. She would not even be part of our national conscience as her mother would probably never been asked by McCan’t to be his VP pick if $arah had same said coloring. (Boy, so glad McCan’t and Co. vetted this quitter)

  10. BooBooBear says:

I imagine DWTS will make a big deal out of introducing $arah in the front row. Bleeech…….

  11. slipstream says:

Do you know why Southern Baptists are opposed to pre-marital sex?

Because sometimes it leads to dancing.

  12. ds55 says:

I predict Bristol will dance poorly but Sarah’s fans will still vote to keep Bristol on the show, after which Bristol will quit.

  13. AKjah says:

Somehow i picture her dancing to the tune of “Dueling banjos”

  14. wolfgirl says:

I don’t get it myself, I have watched for years and really enjoyed some of the dancers. I don’t know why they are starting to bring in more controversial stars. Maybe ratings are down and they need the viewers. At first, I wasn’t going to watch either but then I decided to watch anyway and vote, vote and vote more. Tell your neighbors who to vote for, tell your family. you know the routine, sooner or later the judges will do their job and it will be obvious what is happening. They will start loosing lots of viewers if they continue to keep dancers that really don’t produce and entertain.
I am making a prediction, Bristol will be the next Bachelorette.. Then What???? We get to watch them even more. Time to Change the channel I think.

  15. Rob Morris says:

America is need of help, we have a problem called the pain of the Palin clan.

I will be so happy to see the Palin clan leave the media and we hear no more from them.

I am so sick of the $1,000,000 fees that Sarah getrs paid to say the brainless speeches she makes, her twitter and facebook entries which she does not write.

Bristol is disgusting and I am so sick of her exploiting the baby or shall we say babies.

Bristol is no hard working or nor does she even know what the word means. I am disgusted with DWTS and all the big pay checks she get for her sorted life style. We need to see Sarah Palin health records she never produced and also we need to know who the real parents of Sarah so called birth .

The family has been trashed / Sarah Palin will capitalize on DWTS by showing her face in the front row. I AM SICK OF THE PALIN FAMILY PLEASE GO GO HOME AND STAY IN ALASKA please see if you can find the marbles you have lost. Todd you sure are a whimp

Bristol I wish you a fond farewell after Monday night. Go home and grow up and take care of the babies.

  16. JUST A THOUGHT says:

ANOTHER ACT HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE PALIN HILLBILLIES

CIRCUS TENT. “Attention folks, in ring three, DANCING WITH THE

    STARS – Bristol Palin.”

  17. M says:

Wow! Let’s complain about the elder Palin being a mean girl while we sit here as adults snarking a teenager and her thighs and hoping for her failure. I dislike hearing about this family as much as the next Mudflatter, but the comments on here are nasty, immature and disgusting.

    • JR says:

I have to agree with you, M. It’s not much different than when conservatives have insulted Michelle Obama for her fashion choices in strident terms — and I hate it when they do that. It says more about the attacker than the target. I love reading this forum for the thoughtful analysis, fact-chekcing, but most of all the optimism that we can truly bring about change by getting out there and involved in important issues. I know it’s so much easier to tear down than to build up, but let’s do better than Fox News and the other bots…

  18. Joey Brockhouse says:

The Bristol’s team name is Bailin’ so now there are two Bailin’ Palins!!!

    • dreamgirl says:

Should be Balling. (couldn’t help it)

      • Forty Watt says:

It is Ballin’, which means they are cool, awesome or amazing. “They’re totally ballin’.” Yes there are several other meanings. The dance connection also reaches from Ballin’ the Jack to hip hop.

  19. jaegermeister says:

Which star is Bristol dancing with?

  20. ibwilliamsi says:

PLEASE tell me that someone in Wasilla has a can of spray paint?

    • ibwilliamsi says:

I’ll even post your bond if you get caught just so the conversation can get started!

  21. Lainey says:

same ole same ole…hypocrisy 101…she has the best teacher in that regard! I thought she was adamant that she was not going to dress like she is in the above photo.

  22. ibwilliamsi says:

“Mama Told Me Not to Come”? One of my favorite songs. Luckily, I will not be watching the show so I won’t have to watch her ruin it for me. I’ll watch her make a fool of herself on my computer with the sound off.

FWIW, I hope she and Levi had more fun than Mama wanted her to.

  23. MO Inkslinger says:

I would pay to watch DWTS if Sarah Palin would dance with a real Mama Grizzlie.

    • Tanaga says:

Love it. Thanks for the awesome mental picture – you just replaced the awkward dancing Bristol images with something far more entertaining.

  24. LoveMydogs says:

Maybe SP should be on a reality show called “So You Think You Can Run The Country”…..oh wait, she already was….and we voted her off. Pray that there are no reruns.

  25. London Bridges says:

Is Sarah Palin’s Alaska a fake like everything else about her?
    Read: http://tinyurl.com/28lujfv

    • GoI3ig says:

Pretty much. I have two different friends who ran in to the filming crew as the show was being faked. I mean filmed. Very artificial. She should appear on a show showing how to evade paying property tax. She has more experience in that arena.

    • CO almost native says:

Just like her speech to Iowa Republicans, asking them to rally together as a party. Not what she did during many primaries, supporting Teabaggers instead of party candidates. Another case of “do as I say, and ignore what I do”.

      • lysistrata says:

I read it more as ruthless gloating. No question the GOP is in turmoil over the collapse of their old boy network, and Sarah couldn’t be more thrilled to rub it in.

        • Leota2 says:

Those good old boys are NOT in collapse though. And they have had generations of dealing with people who get in their way—quietly. We may never know it happened, but Sarah is toast on this one. Karl will be getting her back (if this isn’t just all political huckstering on both their parts) with something best served cold.

      • Millie says:

I agree w/49.2…Palin split the party down the middle and now is telling everyone to unite! Absolutely amazing. She is an absolute fraud!

  26. tm68 says:

There is a sign by a dance studio here in Wasilla- it’s where I first saw the “Dance, Bristol, Dance.” I wonder if someone saw that and got the idea to mass produce it for all of the bots in the Lower 48.

Blech- TrueBlueGirl has it right. Its a new low. Where is rock bottom exactly? Are we there yet? Can we call it good and start on the upswing?

  27. London Bridges says:

Maybe we’ll find out at the last second that Bristol in on the injured list, but she has a sub: Sarah. Rating skyrocket!

    • LoveMydogs says:

      OMG NOOOOOOOOO!!!

That totally reminds me of “Mommie Dearest”.

    • kimosabe says:

DWTS is basically pro wrestling with sequins.

    • leenie17 says:

I just had this image of the two of them wrestling on the floor of the television studio. Bristol is struggling to get out from underneath her mother while Sarah is holding her down, yelling,

“I’M the star…the spotlight is MINE, MINE, MINE, ALLLLLL MINE!!!!”

      (Oooff…definitely time for bed!!!)

  28. ann thomas says:

bristol did an interview fri. sept 17, on wmji 1057, cleveland. lanigan & malone. one of the hosts inquired as to the reaction of the family while sarah was considering accepting the vp candidate slot bristol stated that the family was not informed until the morning of the announcement. this mama grizzly must be the most dysfunctional parent of all times.

  29. aksourbear says:

Talk about irony…C.C.’s song was last represented for our family’s viewing in “Con Air” with the one dancing it doing “her” thing-just before the plane crashed into Las Vegas.

  30. AuntieRuth says:

You know how Bristol and Sarah are often seen with a big wad of chewing gum? (Sarah at Ted’s funeral, Bristol in the preview video).

    Wonder if it is nicorette?

  31. LoveMydogs says:

I have to admit that this show is one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t have cable and don’t watch other reality shows. I do love watching people dance, because I too had “aspirations” as a child. And some of the chorography is pretty amazing when one considers that the partners to the professionals are complete amateurs. I do not call in and vote for anyone (there is only so far that I am willing to go).

It bugs me to no end when the people who get a chance to learn from, and dance with, a professional either squander that chance or are there only because of something nefarious that they have done (Tom…cough… DeLay).

I knew very little about ballroom dancing prior to this show. When it came on, I thought what a brilliant way to showcase something that a lot of people know nothing about. And that takes training like an athlete to do well.

I have always felt that the cream (for the most part) floats to the top. The athletes often win because they are used to taking coaching and constructive criticism and putting it to work for them, while the other personalities depend on their popularity. There have been many painful moments watching people get voted through who should gracefully bow out in the first round.

I will not hold my breath that Bristol will take any of the work ethic to heart because I do not think it was instilled in her as a child. But I could be wrong. Shaking your booty on TV does take some guts (unless you are just being paid a ton of money for it).

What bothers me is that Bristol is NOT “a star”. She has done nothing to deserve to be there other than being the infamous daughter of an infamous mother. She represents a portion of the population that need better role models and more discussion of the true reality of consequences for irresponsible sexual behavior. And I wonder how much of her abstinence crap we will have to listen to.

Then I return to the fact that so many of the people in our global world are living without food or clean drinking water and I realize that it really doesn’t matter. It would be nice if they made the prize something that could be contributed to a worthy cause,, rather than a mirror ball and a wad of cash.

    • boodog says:

      LoveMydogs said:

“It would be nice if they made the prize something that could be contributed to a worthy cause,, rather than a mirror ball and a wad of cash.”

      I agree

      • Forty Watt says:

        I agree too.

I know this is about Bristol and DWTS, but while you, LoveMydogs, are owning to a guilty pleasure, I will admit to having been a fan of Bristol’s partner’s mom and dad since their competition days — Corky and Shirley Ballas were champions. Talk about skimpy, over the top bling, who has hair that color, how big do your eyelids have to be to be to hold all that glitter! But they could and still can dance! The Latin section hasn’t been the same without them.

And Corky is going to be dancing with Florence Henderson. Just don’t ham it up Corky will you?

        • Forty Watt says:

Excuse the *to be to be*. I was channelling Hamlet’s more positive thinking twin.

        • CO almost native says:

Ditto! I’ve always loved watching that pair; I’ve taken ballroom dancing and know how hard it is. It makes me sad when DWTS picks the infamous, just to improve ratings.

        • bubbles says:

((((FORTY!!!)))…. a real dancer who shines like a star.

      • Irishgirl says:

        Yes.

    • physicsmom says:

I don’t know about “the cream floating to the top.” A friend was an amateur ballroom dancer who watches DWTS religiously and she has commented often recently that popularity was driving who continued instead of ability or improvement. She said that good dancers get kicked out all the time over mediocre ones due to big fan bases for other reasons. I’ve only seen it occasionally myself, so I can’t comment too much, other than I did see Kelley Osborne and she was wonderful. She is a similar body type to Bristol and was really dedicated. So, Miss B. has a chance if she decides to work at it. I’m guessing that won’t be the case, but I could be proved wrong. I still think she does not deserve to be on the show, not being a “star” or anything, but now that she is, I wish her luck.

    • Well said, lovemydogs -all of it from why you enjoy the show to the way you feel about Bristol being on it. I too love watching – my daughter got me hooked on it when she stayed with us for a few months a few years ago. And now we text each other during the show with our comments about the various dancers. I know – I’m rolling my eyes at myself over that one.

    • Zyxomma says:

Wow, was I laboring under a misconception (and no, that has nothing to do with impregnation). I thought the “stars” donated their winnings to charity. I guess I thought that because I’ve never watched the show, with the exception of Heather Mills, who was a one-time client of mine. She didn’t last long, but every penny she made on the show went to one of her many charities.

      • LoveMydogs says:

If that is the case, it is not advertised as such. No one ever talks about where the money is going.

    • Dagian says:

NPR occasionally shows the national ballroom competitions and the “Best of the Best” competitions where the Latin vs. smooth vs. traditional vs. (can’t remember category!). It’s SO cool. You have GOT to check it out!

      http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/ballroomchallenge/competition-dances.html

  32. A Fan in CA says:

Somewhere on the Santa Monica Blvd a strip club is missing some curtains.

    • boodog says:

If I had the body shape to do so, and in the proper venue – dancing on TV, for example- I would have a blast wearing all those great costumes. They are costumes, not clothes.

      • Forty Watt says:

        Good point, boodog.

Thanks for your answer Fan. So we’ll see if Bristol does in fact wear anything immodest.

      • Irishgirl says:

        Yup, I would if I could, but I can’t.

      • kimosabe says:

TY boondog. When performing you wear a costume, and stage makeup, and pretend to be what you are not. People like to conflate the actor with the character … thats not the way it works.

      • bubbles says:

what is immodest to some is perfectly acceptable to others.

        • The one who is immodest on DWTS is Edyta (one of the pros who isn’t on this year?) who usually looks like she would prefer dancing with no clothes. And sometimes she comes close. Most of the women “stars” though don’t wear really skimpy costumes unless they are comfortable with it and/or have the body to do it. Nor should they.

      • Baker's Dozen says:

That’s true. But it’s not just what you wear, it’s how you wear it. Michelle Obama wore a halter patriotic type top, all glittery and spangled, for Independence Day. Sarah wears suits and looks less dressed and more ready for them to rip off, like in some strip tease. It’s the attitude. Whether Bristol looks dressed or not will have a lot to do with the costume, but more to do with her attitude, which seems much more like Sarah’s that Mrs. Obama’s. It’s the “undress me with your eyes” attitude that does it. Put the same clothes Palin often wears on Mrs. Obama and they would actually look classy instead of tawdry.

  33. Forty Watt says:

I am pretty taken aback by the sense I’m getting from various posts, from people whose opinions I respect, that seem to suggest that dancing on TV in short skirts is, in and of itself, an undesirable way to behave, even with Bristol Palin and her mother out of the equation. Why would that be?

    • A Fan in CA says:

It is not a undesirable way to behave for the most part. But Bristol was out touting that she was only going to have “modest” costumes. It’s just more hypocrisy from this clan. The other thing that I think has folks ticked off is that this girl is only famous for being an unwed teen mom. That is not something that should be held up for our kids as something that will bring you success. It is a poor message for other teen girls.

    • majii says:

It’s not the costumes or the appearance on the show. It’s the fact that someone who has done what millions of other young girls have done (having a baby out of wedlock) is held up as an “icon” for other young girls to emulate, making it appear to them as if they, too, can have the same access to the opportunities presented to Bristol Palin and her family. I also hate the way Palin has used Bristol for her own ambition. No child should be used this way, and any mother who would do it needs to take parenting classes. I find it strange that Todd doesn’t seem to have much to say in all of this since most fathers are particularly protective of their daughters. My dearly departed dad would have said some things to me that I wouldn’t have wanted to hear had I done a fraction of the things that Bristol has done in her short life.

    • bubbles says:

i am not happy with some of the comments here. prissy and sanctimonious. really not nice and not what Mudflats has always been about….too bad.

  34. jojobo1 says:

By the way couldn’t do anything about the prescript before the vid starts.

  35. jojobo1 says:

Now if she could dance anything like these two maybe just maybe I might watch TV which I haven’t watched in a year or more.I know He passed on from cancer and I watched his last interview and cried about it. Some may not have like the show but i loved the song and dance.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo&feature=related

    • Ah, thanks for the link. I love that movie. It’ll be interesting to see how “Baby” dances at age 50. I’ve never been quite sure how they can have people on as the stars when they actually have dacning experience.

  38. Irishgirl says:

I wanted to be a dancer when I was young. I had “notions.” The arts are a way to express yourself and we will see if Bristol is able to do this.

Bye the way…..I still think she is a total mini-me.

  39. Diane says:

Why should palin or o’donnell tell us how to live our lives, what is appropriate behaviors according to their codes or their religious beliefs.

I raised my children, neither I or my daughter got pregnant before marriage.
My husband and I went through some tough times. But we always paid our mortgage and our bills. I worked 2 jobs to do that when needed.
Why are these two women getting free passes to do anything they please?

I don’t like the ethics of either palin or o’donnell. I don’t like the lies, the religiosity and their know it all attitudes.

    • majii says:

I raised my daughter alone after her dad and I divorced when she was five. She graduated from high school and college with honors, and has a good job. My daughter was involved in girl scouts, FHA, Beta Club, a baton twirling group, and many other activities/organizations while she was growing up. She’s 29 today, has no kids, and is engaged to be married next year. According to Palin, a success story like mine is not possible because African American single parents don’t have what it takes to raise a child like mine. Well, I’ve got news for her. Not only did I raise my child alone since she was five, I had expectations and rules that she had to follow. Since I was a college graduate, and since I had no kids until after I was married, I expected and got the same from my daughter while buying a house and paying all of the bills on time. Had my daughter had a child when she was younger, I would have helped her and urged her to educate herself beyond the high school level. Palin needs to stop demonizing those whom she doesn’t know or has very little/no contact with including liberals, people of color, gays, lesbians, pro-choicers, etc. I think that her disdain for those who don’t believe what she believes can be tied to her lack of contact with members of these groups.

      • ks sunflower says:

Yes – that and her arrogant ignorance which she wears as badge of honor. She seemingly doesn’t want to broaden her horizons or engage in meaningful dialogue. She’s seem all too comfortable in her own little world unfortunately. If she suddenly realized how insular that world was, I’m not sure she could cope with a loving, tolerant diverse community. Her loss – not ours, unless, of course she becomes President, then it’s our nightmare.

        • nswfm says:

Congratulations to all the quality moms who have raised quality children into adulthood.

Grifter Granny is just a big, bullying fish in an itty bitty pond.

Get out the vote and make her completely irrelevant. The world needs to put this lying fraud behind us.

        • Zyxomma says:

$P has proved that she is ineducable. She knows nothing (beyond the grift), and has no desire to learn. Whether or not she has the ability to learn is meaningless, since she lacks the desire. Learners love to learn — whether the subject is politics, economics, nutrition, astronomy, geology, you-name-it. Dominionists, on the other hand, have all the answers, and wish to learn nothing unless it’s at their narrow-minded church, or in church camp or related venues. Whenever confronted by facts, they put their hands over their ears and start speaking in tongues. Visit http://www.godsownparty.com for more information.

      • leenie17 says:

Thankfully, there are far more women out there like you than there are like her.

Congratulations for having your priorities in order and for obviously passing on your admirable values to your daughter. You have much to be proud of.

      • dreamgirl says:

@ Diane and majii: Thanks for sharing the hard work it takes raising a family. That yours’ value education, “fiscal responsibility”, family planning and pursued in your families, is a joy to read. That people like the Palin’$ flout responsibilities , discipline, education, abstinence and pregnancies and are offered financial opportunities bacause of that is a sad fact .

The Palin’s are Paris Hilton dopplegangers/wannabes in my book. Famous for nothing and poor behavior.

  40. Are they going to present “Mama told me (not to come)” as an anti-masturbation theme song?

  41. Writing from Alaska says:

  45. I See Villages From My House says:

It isn’t about how she got on the show that I take issue with, it is that she willfully took on the show when she admits she doesn’t have rhythm, doesn’t dance and is terribly shy.

Why do they insist on pursuing things that aren’t right for them, or for the public?

The way she was dancing goofily in the promo’s just ticked me off. She was being silly, making fun of herself when there are so much more disciplined people out there that sweat blood and tears to prove themselves in such an arena.

The Palin’s continue to be given a free pass to riches, notoriety and legitimacy, when they would never, ever grant the same to their neighbors, especially us normal people who don’t fit their narrow definition of Real Americans.

That Sarah is going to be in the audience shouldn’t affect the way this show is done, but anything Sarah gets involved with, protocol, diplomacy and standards are all out the window.

  46. ds55 says:

Who will be holding up the signs? Sarah only has two hands. Will she bring an entourage of sign holders? Cheerleaders? A marching band? What a joke. They should all be embarrassed.

  47. Tyroanee says:

I can hardly wait for the twitler to plead to her followers to “vote for my little Bristol”…Whoring the daughter out, is no different then parading Tri-g out on the campaign trail.
What family values will shine out when Bristol strips down to a sultry outfit, and oh yeah it’s coming, you can be sure of it.

    • Polly says:

Interesting comparison. – I spent some time this morning reading about Grace Kelly, and her memorial. Her dresses on display were very high-necked and covered her body. She was quoted as not liking to show her knees. James Stewart eulogy: “You know, I just love Grace Kelly. Not because she was a princess, not because she was an actress, not because she was my friend, but because she was just about the nicest lady I ever met. Grace brought into my life as she brought into yours, a soft, warm light every time I saw her, and every time I saw her was a holiday of its own….” Gary Cooper once said of Grace: “She’s different from all these sexballs we’ve been seeing so much of.”……………Writer Phil Butler: “Princess Grace exemplified what is possible, and the way celebrities should conduct themselves.”

  51. JR says:

Could we please stop with the “chunky” business? I have been enjoying dance and other dancers for years, and I can tell you that some of the best of them have a little padding around the edges. It has absolutely nothing to do with her unsuitability to be on the show (there are plenty of valid reasons for that), is needlessly cruel, and perpetuates the idea that a woman’s appearance is the most important thing that she be judged on, regardless of the situation. If she’s a bad dancer and has done nothing to earn her celebrity, fine, then she shouldn’t be on Dancing With the Stars, but her weight has nothing to do with it. It ain’t called Dancing With Thin People Only.

    • CoyoteMarti says:

      Ditto, what JR said.

    • LoveMydogs says:

      THANK you.

    • leenie17 says:

So true. I don’t watch the show itself, but have seen quite a bit of the entertainment news coverage over the years. There have been some dancers in past seasons who had a little more padding than others but were graceful and coordinated. Being thin does NOT automatically make one a skilled dancer, while being a little more rounded does not automatically guarantee that you will be clumsy. Think Nell Carter in the Broadway shows Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Annie.

In Bristol’s case, she seems to be awkward and uncomfortable but that has nothing to do with her weight.

      • Dagian says:

Wasn’t Nell Carter ALSO in the movie, “Hair”? I think I remember her being onscreen.

What a beautiful, rich voice she had.

    • Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

      Thank you!

Thank you. My soon-to-be-daughter is *well* beyond “chunky” but I’d be hard pressed to name Anyone who is more graceful and light on their feet than is she. beth.

–This wonderous 5’2″ woman my son has asked to be his wife was checking out bridesmaid’s dresses with her attendants. One dress was, hands down, everyone’s favorite. One of the gals asked her: “But do you think it appropriate that the neckline doesn’t come all the way up to the collar bone?” Without missing a beat, my STBD said: “Listen, I’ll be standing there in 30-pounds of white material — and that’s 30-pounds *without* the beading. You seriously think anyone’ll be looking at your cleavage?” Gadzooks, I love this woman! b.–

    • Village Reader says:

I agree. Thank you for writing what I was thinking. Her weight and any other ‘physical’ imperfection should be off limits. With all the problems young people (and adults) have with their body image, we should be glad she’s a healthy young lady and not skin and bones, starving herself.

Her intelligence (or lack there of), morals and general ethics are what needs to be focused on, especially if she continues to spread misinformation and scam the public.

    • JR, you are exactly right. And some of the stars that have turned out to be good dancers aren’t skinny. It’s been nice to see that they have the talent and have put in the effort and have enjoyed learning something new. Kelly Osborne was one of my favorites, just because she didn’t think she could do it and found out that she could. What a transformation it was for her, and fun for those of us who watched that season.

If Bristol turns out to be a good dancer, then good for her. I probably still won’t vote for her, just on principle. But then stranger things have happened. My real problem with Bristol is not her appearance but her attitude that we have seen whenever she is with her mother – cocky, smug, rude, unrefined. The idea that she is being rewarded for behavior as a teen mom when most girls would not get any perks or fame – or at least not the kind of fame that she has attained. She’s not a good role model for younger girls but here she is on TV in glamorous costumes, getting lots of attention and money because she has a famous mother and she got pregnant at 17. By putting Bristol on the show, DWTS has glorified being an unwed mother. She is not helping get the message out that it would be better to wait to have a baby till a girl/woman is older and married. What’s coming out of her mouth doesn’t match what viewers will see.

  52. Jen says:

TrueBlueGirl your rant is spot on and much appreciated. The Palins are everything wrong with this country. The intellectual bar is below the floor. It irritates me to no end that poor choices (barely making it through high school, teen pregnancy and grifting) are celebrated by a part of our populace. It is appalling to listen to people without the sense to work hard to avoid these outcomes tell me we need “common sense government.” We have worked hard, very hard to provide a nurturing home and community so our children can realize their potential. It took a lot of volunteer work, time in classrooms and evenings spent doing homework and listening to kids practice instruments, memorizing poetry etc. … I can assure you this is not a normal life in the Palin home. She does not promote the values I and most of my community hold dear.

    • Terpsichore says:

The lack of varied activities in the Palin household is frightening. Sarah Palin played flute, yet not one of her kids appears to have had any music lessons. None were involved in drama in school, nor any clubs that we are aware of. They were not involved in their church’s youth group. Or sang in church choir, or joined the handbell choir (if they had one). We have zero evidence that any of the children have had any interest in any particular academic area – reading or writing, or science. Or learning a foreign language. None seem particularly interested in travel (foreign or domestic), except as a quick trip that someone else pays for (= fun!) rather than a more extended kind of a trip – month-long tour or week long service project trip, or being a foreign exchange student (= learning and work, but which can bring immense satisfaction and personal perspective).

Aside from a little hockey and basketball, and a little fishin’ and huntin’, what do they actually DO?

      Plus, they don’t have pets.

All of that spells ‘really weird’ in my book. Not any one individual thing, mind you, but the whole sum total of things those kids ARE’NT doing.

Had Bristol had more, varied activities in her life, it’s very possible she would have (to quote her) “waited ten years” before having a child, and might have learned things that would have given her dance performance more zing. I will cringe … no, probably through something at the TV, if Bristol gets criticized and mama says something like “I guess she didn’t inherit my musical ability”.

    • Millie says:

      Totally correct and well said!

      • I See Villages from my House says:

One cutsey story on Gov. Palin was about how they had two dogs named after her landmark legislative ‘accomolishments,’ ACES and AGIA. Given that neither pieces have succeeded beyond the much ballyhooed passage, the dogs seem to have faired just as well.

Her sister Heather or her parents must have inherited those props too. Also.

  54. cathy in Texas says:

I am wondering if there are pre-conditions that state that Len and Bruno can’t say anything negative about Bristol. After all there will be a Mama Grizzly in the audience and she may Facebook them as the Lame Stream Judges. I am betting that the producers will have Len be all “grandfatherly” to her.
Ugh! Given all the people out of work these days, it makes me sick that this girl is able to make a bundle off of the American public. The longer she stays on the show, the more money she makes.
Mark my words, there will be no constructive criticism given to Bristol. If it gets too hard for her, she will declare some sort of injury or need to spend more time with her family.
I wish we could petition the media to drop any mention of any Palin for at least 30 days. Maybe, then, they would just go away!

  55. ks sunflower says:

As we approach the bottom of the barrel, perhaps we can take comfort that there has to be a point where tings start looking up again. That said, I thought we hit that point last year. Boy, was I ever wrong. The Palins keep lowering the bottom which makes us wonder if their saga is really about throwing the rest of us into a bottomless pit.

  56. Baker's Dozen says:

That is one ugly promo picture. If that’s the best they could do, it makes one wonder what reality looks like. After all, they tend to use the pictures that make you look best–like fast food hamburger shots.

  57. TrueBlueGirl says:

How have we come to this? We now have to watch this sullen, clueless mean girl flash her chunky thighs and haul her smug righteous self around a dance floor… and she’s there because her only claim to stardom is she literally has no shame, putting it out there that she’s for chastity and abstinence but only after she’s made a name for herself through Candies slutty marketing AND she’s been held up by fawning media as a beacon of hope shining light into the dark futures of unwed teenage high school dropouts everywhere… and this only because of her mother’s very public pathologies of narcissism, deceit and greed and the very sad fact that she sniffed out the huge sea of stoopid sheeple who were ready to use both hands to throw money at her and follow her off the cliff. I cannot believe what we are witnessing. It is a new low in America. Rant over, peace, out.

  58. Mudflatsfan says:

I wish this girl could have this moment for her. I actually hope she does really well. I hope she will take this ride and provide a wonderful life for her little one.

I disagree on this one (just thinking about my single parent moments). Many young girls are in her shoes (so to speak) and simply don’t have a mom who has become a full fledged celebrity.
Let’s face it, she is given these opportunities because of her mother.

So, I don’t fault this young woman for jumping aboard and taking advantage of the spotlight that she has been given. As a teen, I would have probably said “sign me up.” Please don’t confuse the fact that I fully understand when there are women that the are horrible situations in which one may decide differently, or that they may make a different choice all together. I don’t think this is a slap in the face to them, I think it is an example of how we make people into celebrities by loving and disliking them. We are as much to blame for Palin’s success. She would not be who she is, if we were not here writing about her. Once we stop writing and complaining about her, the extended ten minutes of fame will stop. The next person we disagree with will be the next millionare. Everyone likes the underdog. So, in my thoughts, Palin is the sweet, beautiful women who has good values. Her fans think the rest of the women who don’t like her must be fat and ugly because why else could they not like her??? We might know that theory is half-baked but…

I am prochoice woman and will always side on the rights of women. I disagree with her policies and as a minority, I think she is divisive in having someone else write her Facebook page. (Her voice is lost, and thus leaving the reader who disagrees offended at times).

I just think the kids should be off base. My continued issue with Palin is that she has been a great deal of power to say really narrow-minded things. She has an opportunity to unite people and has been effective in only uniting those that think like her. I think it is dangerous when we can only see one side and that is ours. It is for this reason that I think she will be a horrible President. I think she will piss off the entire world with her ego-based thinking. I would love to see a figure of peace and a deep intellectual thinker who is aware that people believe and think differently. (I also respect those who disagree with me).

I think a true leader should have the ability to disagree but be agreeable to that fact. I want a leader who will not “completely” sell out as she has displayed she will. I am not oblivious to the fact that they all do, but her motive was blatant. I don’t think Palin is an dumb, stupid, etc. individual. I just think she truly believes that she is doing the right thing for our country. I just don’t think she can see past her own vision of America. And it is that simple fact, why I think she will fail. She has boxed herself into a corner. If she comes out like the peacemaker tomorrow, it will come across as a big act. Plus the fact, I don’t think she is truly for all women’s rights. The sad thing about all of this is that the Republican party waited to long to oppose her recklessness and will probably end up with a Palin candidate.

    • Mudflatsfan says:

sorry for additional words in there. Wrote too fast.

    • ks sunflower says:

Are you sure you want to use “will be” as the verb phrase when describing a possible Palin presidency?

I would have chosen “would be” as only a possibility. “Will” seems like a foregone conclusion, which I don’t think you meant or would want.

Otherwise, I agree with you on most points – though I am not sure Palin actually believes “she is doing the right thing for our country.” I think Sarah believes she is doing the right thing for her.

      • Mudflatsfan says:

“Will be,” in the sense that if Tea Party candidates keep getting voted in and do well in the upcoming months. A possibility that will be bought into fruition unless some strategic changes take place. I am not a Palin bot or a troll? LOL. I simply disagree that taking shots at her daughter solves anything constructive.

If you look at Palin’s FB, it is edited from “trolls” and I think that is unfortunate. If we can’t debate or disagree then how exactly are we any better? You absolutely have a right to take your shots. I simply disagree. If that constitutes a troll, troll it is… I am also a proud and strong Democrat!

    • Lacy Lady says:

I don’t know that it would help if we all sat back and didn’t write about SP. The truth must be told, and that is very hard to get across to people, when Fox News–with Beck, Hannity, R.Limbaugh & others come out everyday and attack , attack and attack. It is called “Brain washing”.
I heard Sarah when she was telling the nut case that won in the primary in Deleware to go on Fox news to get out her message. The fact that we are writing about Sarah –I call DAMAGE control.
Sarah had her Ass in Iowa last night, making trouble for Iowans with her Bull Shit!
I have been an Iowan for 81 years, and I think I know a hell of lot more about what is best for Iowa than the Nut from Alaska!!!!!
I think it is time for the Witch of Wasilla to go back to Alaska and clean up her own mess.
Heard–but not confirmed—-she asked for $100,000.00 to speak last night. Heard but not confirmed—she didn’t get paid. Maybe Sen. Grassley paid her way out of the money he screwd out of Wall Street????

    • Forty Watt says:

“I wish this girl could have this moment for her. I actually hope she does really well. I hope she will take this ride and provide a wonderful life for her little one.”

I agree. My hope is that she can stay on long enough to learn what hard-work, dedication and constructive but honest criticism can do for you if you grasp the chance. I think about the turn-around that happened on DWTS for Kelly Osbourne and that young man, whose name I probably never knew, who had been a child star and was a young adult in need of structure.

I don’t mean to make DWTS sound like some sort of Terpsichorean rehab program, but while it’s true this is a reality show, all the people are not stars, and professional ballroom dancers, and therefore their partners, wear skimpy costumes and a lot of make-up, it’s a mistake to underestimate the many admirable qualities that go into being a professional dancer in any dance field.

One more thing, at the risk of sounding self-righteous and prissy, Bristol may not be a *starvling* but, given the high percentages of Americans who are overweight and obese, enough IMO.

    • FW says:

Wow, such a concern troll…first of all, Bristol is nineteen, almost twenty who is a mother, and according to her, makes her own decisions…legally she is no longer a kid. Your statement about kids being off base would be valid for any other Palin child except Bristol…she has posed and given interviews over a dozen times to tabloid including People, US, and In Touch weekly and raked in humdreds of thousands of dollars. SHe charges $14,000 to give speeches. She has done the rounds on all the networks to promote her “teen abstinence” campaign. She did a starring role on ABC Family’s Secret Life, and is now on Dancing with the Stars. Bristol has now classified herself as a star, and deserves all the star treatment, just like that given to Kate Gosselin, Lindsey Lohan, and all the other media whores.

      Sorry troll…better luck next time

      • Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

I don’t know that I’d label the comments as coming from a troll of any kind… (sorry).

I know I was a witless wonder when I was 19; witless enough to think that I was mature enough for marriage (ha). Nineteen IS young. and fame and fortune has a mighty strong call.

I admit, I don’t agree with the Palin-clan-tribe-bot bunch on anything I can think of, but, I don’t know how I’d have turned out myself if I hadn’t had the parenting I did.

Anyway. Dunno how much sense any of that makes… delete at will lol

      • Village Reader says:

I don’t agree about the troll view.

‘Mudflatsfan’ wrote what he/she believes and did so, WITHOUT it being horribly insulting, swearing, filled with hate or even a ‘defend until the death’ one-sided view. Those ‘mean spirited’ views are what I consider qualities of a troll. Mudflatsfan just stated his/her opinion.

I think it should be noted, that here in mudflats, people can write a view defending or opposing as long as it is done with respect and people writing back are equally respectful. A troll cares only for itself and not another’s view.

        Just my opinion.

        • Zyxomma says:

Agree completely. Mudflatsfan is welcome to share her/his opinion on this forum anytime. From my experience here over the past 14 months or so, all points of view are welcome, as long as they’re respectful. We don’t need to censor oppositional views, and as for trolls, AKM is great at finding them and flushing them down the troll hole.

    • Millie says:

I find it amazing how the media is pulling out all kinds of things (go years back) regarding the little tea party gal that just won back east. She is cancelling her appearances on newscast shows she was scheduled for on Sunday. Palin would never have agreed to them! Why didn’t they/the media really, really dig out the crud regarding Palin when she came on the scene? I guess she had the McCain crowd to protect and teach her? Palin has gotten away w/waaaaay toooo much!

    • tallimat says:

Yes, it would take a mom, who ignores a order of the court & trashes a oath of office, to help a daughter make a career out of unprotected, pre maritial sex.

There are so mAny honorable careers a glamorized teen mom can work towards. Last I checked, furthering ones education is kinda a typical desire amongst teen moms.

      • ks sunflower says:

What’s sad is the amount of money she’s going to be taking in with each episode. This does nothing to convey to girls that becoming an unwed mother should not be a career goal.

  60. GoI3ig says:

I thought it was called dancing with the stars? Since when is getting pregnant and dropping out of high school the definition of a star? I would rather watch Todd’s half sister, the burglar on “Cops.”

  61. Bev says:

Thank gawd I do not watch DWTS…never have and never will…guess networks will do anything to turn a profit…they are making whores of themselves.

    • Terpsichore says:

Yeah, it went downhill not long after John O’Hurley won (or was it almost won?) in one of, if not the, very first seasons. There’s a slight possibility I may watch because I know I would be a good judge – I know music and I know something about dancing and I know a bit about show biz. If she simply doesn’t have the rhythm in her, it will show. You can’t teach a person that in a few weeks, no matter how great a dance trainer/teacher you are.

But then, that’s part of the point of the show, isn’t it? I do enjoy seeing those that you might think would not do well really shine.

It’s possible bristol will surprise me. It’s also possible I’ll win a huge jackpot in the lottery tonight and/or be struck by lightning tomorrow. I really don’t expect any of those three things to happen.

      • Lower48 says:

I watched off and on over the past few years… but last year, when Kate “two-left-feet” Gosselin stayed as long as she did, it was GAME OVER for me. I knew then and there, it wasn’t all about the skill of the dancers, but how many people tuned in each week. People kept tuning in to see how truly terrible she was, did she really scowl at the judges and, despite all that – she stayed on and on and on. I predict the same for Bristol.

      • Forty Watt says:

I hope the huge jackpot one does. 😀

      Yuck.

Look Wasilla is tacky, mean and church billboards say things like “how’s life without Jesus working out for you”.

Now if you hang out with the Alaska Natives or American Indians, things are a little different. for one thing, Todd ain’t gonna show up. Nor is the local patriot group.
It is friendly and no one is gonna throw around under handed, suttle racist tones of fraudulent nicie
      small talk.

A general acceptance of the educator trade is praise when the kid did well. Me thinks Sowah got too much undeserved praise when attending school. Bristol on the other hand revolted against the local teachers. What? Someone expects the local mayors daughter to do school work? Bristol convinces
her mommy and daddy that they are bad teachers. From that point on all teachers are a bad experience (think Homer and WGE signage, the horror).

Sowah is on the set of DWTS cause Bristol needs a success. And perhaps this wi get her some votes. Like at some point, someone in that family has got it say: Bristol is making a career off of pre maritial sex. Or at least think it and send her another bible.

So my sisters daughter and the boyfriend got pregant the summer between 11 and 12 grade, out here in the Mat Su Valley. Guess what both grandparents continue to say? “Higher education is going to be harder, but you both can do it”…

Believe me, the whole town ain’t for the Palins and the kid who making a career out of premaritial sex.

Good gawd, I live in a area of Palin loving cluelessness. And their proud of it.
What can I say, the head of the patriot group out here likes to ride motorcycle. Don’t tell her those are federal $$$ that build and maintain those very
highways she rides on. This is such a pure and simple example of hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy makes sense once you understand its meaning.

I’m sure there is a great deal of truth in what you say; however, it’s time for you and others to scream from the mountain tops. Buy a megaphone. Whatever works.

        • lysistrata says:

Doing our best. Thanks for listening.

          • Zyxomma says:

More important than anything to do w/$carah’s eldest daughter is that you get out the vote for Scott McAdams. A progressive victory in Alaska would be the biggest slap imaginable across Twitter Twat’s face. Urge everyone over the age of 18 to get to the polls, whether by mail-in ballot or election day voting booth, and vote for the only progressive in the race: Democratic candidate Scott McAdams. Contact every Alaskan in your phone books and email lists. Get out the vote!

    • dudley do right says:

That Todd sure is a busy feller. One week he is building 14 ft high fences and the next week he is putting up billboards for Sarah’s daughter.

  67. Kimosabe says:

She will last more than halfway, and be a ratings bonanza. People want to see train wrecks.

  68. London Bridges says:

This whole “Red Shoes” thing is very interesting, on several levels. First, ’cause it’s the simplest: Is SARAHPAC money being spent for those signs and for Sarah’s lodging and plane tickets to attend Bristol’s performance? Is it legal? (Of course it IS all political.)

Next: There has been much speculation as to whether Bristol has been preggo in recent weeks with a non-Leviathon child. True or false? Terminated or continuing?

Personally, Sarah whole modus operandi is using sex and pregnancy and babies to get her way.

What if we’ve been set up and Bristol has been wearing fake fat suits and saying she can’t dance, and Bristol looks thin and can dance. A perfect chance for Sarah to spew her hate and say Bristol and Sarah have made their critics look bad.

Levi and Mercede have been awfully quiet about this whole thing.

It can’t be as un-convoluted and simple as “Bristol is chunky and can’t dance,”

Did Koch pay off the programmers for the vote tabulating machines?

Will it be a Sarah-farcical black comedy at its best? Theater of the absurd?

  69. Dancing with the Stars is one of the few TV shows I like to watch, mainly because I’d love to be able to dance that way but know that I never could. And it just irritates me no end that Bristol is going to be on. Personally, I hope she gets kicked off early so I don’t have to see her or her mother on a show that I like. I’m sick of all the Palins and want them to go home and actually be mothers to their children.

    • dowl says:

      I’m sick of Palins too.

      • SouthernYankee says:

I am not watching the show as a protest vote. I am sick and tired of anything Palin. Doesn’t this family realize they are the laughing stock of AK? Why did they put this ho bag on the show? They are rewarding her for bad hehavoir. I don’t understand why the christain right can forgive her yet can’t seem to forgive any democrat for the wrongs. What is the difference? I am pretty liberal but I will tell you that I wouldn’t put my unwed daughter out there in public as a showcase. She is what is wrong with having children out of wedlock. Shame on Sarah for not having parenting skills because she knew her daughter was having sex and she should of made sure she was on birth control.

        • nswfm says:

“Doesn’t this family realize they are the laughing stock of AK?”

You are in good company–they are the laughing stock of the whole world. But they are making the US look bad to the rest of the world, also, too.

    • Lilybart says:

But if she is really bad wouldn’t it be fun if she had to be humiliated week after week…

the palin’s bring out the mean girl in me

      • SouthernYankee says:

I am sure Bruno will let the air out of her head. But don’t worry the teabaggers will be voting for her over and over just like they voted for the other idiot Kate Gosselin who should have been the first one kicked off the show. It was terrible to see her beg for votes.

        • Lacy Lady says:

Like American’s Got talent show—–the winner was not the best talent–but people voted for him because of “his life story”. Others on the show could draw circles around him. Not fair for people with REAL talent.

        • And that’s just what worries me – that she will be on there way too long because she gets votes from the teabag crowd or gets a sympathy vote, because “oh, poor me, I’m a single mom.” Well, fine. So are a lot of other young women – go home and take care of your baby and get out of the spotlight. Argh!

    • Lower48 says:

They’ll keep her on for a few shows. It’s just like coming up on a train wreak… you can’t help but stare (bring in viewers). And they KNOW all the Palin-bots will tune in. It’s all about the ratings and the revenue – the dancing is secondary. How do you think Kate Gosselin lasted so long? She brought notoriety to the show.

      • I don’t think anyone has been a worse dancer or more of a drama queen than Kate Gosselin. She should have been off so much sooner. The other one that I found particularly annoying, because she stayed while good dancers went off, was Marie Osmond. Bleah.

And I really wish they would get “stars” and not reality show people. It amazes me that some of those shows are still on.

  70. Paula says:

And mama upstages her kid again.

    • kate says:

Very true. And who is taking care of little Tripp?

    • 1smartcanerican says:

no wonder B is all messed up! She didn’t stand a chance with the parenting she has received. Thus, I do have some empathy for her. She probably doesn’t even realize that not all families are as dysfunctional as hers and sadly, she is passing it on to her own little family of two. This should be considered cruel and unusual punishment!

      • Millie says:

I’ll bet the Palin group is a pain in the butt for DWTS to work with…Sarah being there…her ‘team’/security. It’s going to be fun hearing the stories when they begin to ‘leak’.

    • I See Villages From My House says:

Like when Sarah just happened past the room where Bristol was having her secret interview of Greta and took it over in a crouched stance since she was never invited to sit down and join them?

Will Sarah make her way onto the floor, protesting to the fans that she never intended to dance but finds she has to plow through the door God cracked opened as an opportunity to show her strengths as a dancer and not just a commonsense conservative leader without a title?

Poor Mark will have to keep reminding the former quitting Governor that even Rogue Maverick’s have to let the man lead. . .

  71. austintx says:

Meh……..they’ll prolly keep her around for a bit like that woman with the eight kids. Woman couldn’t dance her way out of a wet paper bag and looked all pissy and sullen the whole time. Bristol is only there for entertainment value.

    • nswfm says:

Well, two threads back, there was a revelation about B in 2007 being very very knocked up and drinking and smoking. On her way to compete with the 8 kids woman? You be the judge.

  72. Gramiam says:

Lock the door to the hospitality Suite! The Swag Hag is coming!! AARRGGHH! Anybody taking bets on how long the Swag Haglet will last on DWTS?

    • leenie17 says:

If the short snippets I’ve seen from the promo shoot are any indication, she won’t last past the first week. There is not a graceful or rhythmic molecule in her body. She just might make DeLay look like Baryshnikov by comparison.

If she’s as bad as it looked, I might actually feel a little sorry for her.

      Mmmmmm, maybe not.

      • Millie says:

I’ll bet she lasts longer than we think….the extreme right will be out there w/the votes no matter how badly she does. Look at how long Kate lasted and she really couldn’t dance!

    • Lacy Lady says:

She will never get off the ground!!!!!!!

    • judith says:

hmmm, Anyone’s guess. She sure looks like her mother doesn’t she?
