Hat tip to Mudflatter D, who says:

As someone who grew up in “Tornado Alley” it is hard for me to defile the likeness’ of Dorothy and Toto.  But….it is time this guy goes back to Kansas, cyclone or no.

Agreed.

“It is hard to imagine a lawsuit more dangerous to Alaska’s tripartite form of government than one that asks the courts to instruct the Legislature that there are certain executive actions that are off-limits to legislative inquiry, certain legislators who are too ‘partisan’ to be assigned responsibility in legislative investigations, and certain people whom the Legislature cannot employ as investigators. That is what this suit does,” wrote attorney Peter Maasen in his answer to Miller’s complaint. “Fortunately, under Alaska’s separation-of-powers principles and case law, the complaint is clearly meritless as a matter of law. The court should dismiss it.”

Mother Jones article is “Old Whine in New Bottles,” and here’s a little quote:

“But today, there’s virtually no one left in the party leadership who doesn’t at least claim to adhere to tea party principles. Recent polls by both Gallup and the Mellman Group (PDF) find that the views of self-identified tea party supporters are nearly identical to the views of self-identified Republicans across the board. Gallup’s analysis may go a little too far in saying that the tea party movement is “more a rebranding of core Republicanism than a new or distinct entity on the American political scene,” but not by much.”

After some sleuthing with help of fellow sleuther Gimme-a-Break, I started a Liberty & Freedom Foundation File.

The exec. director is Victor Cocchia, so I did some hunting about him, and came up with this

    http://blog.mariaelvira.tv/2010/09/29/sarah-palin-visitara-la-florida-en-octubre.aspx

It’s Cocchia and the head of a local SoFla consertvative group talking about SP’s visit to Miami.

Any Mudflatters fluent in Spanish? My two years of Spanish in Middle school have resulted in me being able to pick out words here and there, but not the real essence of the conversation. I got the impression that the two men didn’t completely agree with each other and that the host was asking pointed question, but that impression could be way off.

(BTW, I may not admire their views, but I admire those who are fluently bilingual.)

I also found a reference to The Ten in ’10, which is supposed to be their PAC (and it is), but here’s their FEC reporting:

Funny, hard to give money to campaigns when there is apparently … no money. And never has been. So …. what was the fundraiser in March for?

Maria asks about Sarah Palin’s 30/48 approval/negative numbers in recent polls and Mr. Cocchea says it’s because the 48% are afraid of change (tiennen miedo). She later asks him about whether or not the tea party is splitting the Republican party (he answers that one in English, while she translates). The other gentleman is head of a South Florida Conservative group that is bringing Palin. He talks about how the tea party is not racist, only against the President’s policies. Both men are clearly conservative, and yes, the hostess is asking pointed (and well-informed questions).

Thanks so much Kate, that helps a lot.

I also listened to Mr. Coccia on an conservative radio program that was slanted toward security issues (read: scaring people) and when asked about Palin’s views on that, he often answered that he had never heard her say her views. I came away with the impression he did really not know Sarah Palin at all, just liked her talking points and of course, her leather jackets and short skirts.

Did anyone ever get a statistic on hispanic women’s view of SP (approva//negative)?

          That would be interesting.

Please don’t tell me Cocchia is going to coach her in a few phrases of Spanish. She mangles English badly enough, I can’t imagine what unintended insult would come out if she tried it.

Hey my fellow caring mudflatters — any of you also have children in university/college?

I have been broken-hearted over the Rutgers tragedy since I heard about it, so I sent an email to my daughter (she’s off at uni), and hope that those of you who have children in uni will do something similar. It’s strange that less than a week ago I sent a link to Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” youtube site to a glbt friend, hoping that she & her mother (also glbt) would record something for it, so the Rutgers tragedy really hit me.

Anyway, here’s an excerpt of the email that I sent my daughter, and I hope other schools will do the same:

Not sure if you’ve read anything about this, but it really breaks my heart. I have been choked up about this since I first read about it a couple of days ago. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/01/tyler-clementis-suicide-i_n_746624.html

Anyway, I’m sending you this because I think that you & (boyfriend — edited out), together, should come up with some sort of candlelight vigil/ceremony/something to support this poor boy and all of the others like him that are still suffering. Of course you’d have to approach higher-ups, and think about what you’re going to say, who’s going to say it, but I think that this is really really important.

One of the reasons that I completely despise Sarah Palin with the intensity of a billion burning suns is that on the campaign trail back in 2008 she was full of hateful rhetoric and basically, by example, encouraged others to be hateful as well. It’s as though she did, and continues to, encourage hateful words & deeds. Of course the GOP has picked up that ball and run with it and it gets worse and worse. Who will lead by example, for all of those a-holes filled with hate, a more loving, truly Christian was of treating others? There must be a line that gets drawn regarding discourse and treatment of others, and there must be societal norms established and adhered to that make the sort of treatment that that boy was subjected to morally unacceptable. A vigil of some sort would send a message that humanity, whatever race or sexuality or belief, deserves care, respect & consideration from others. The university should be coming up with something like this on their own, frankly, but in the event that they don’t, I think you & (boyfriend – edited out!) should grab that bull by the horns.

I particularly liked where they point out AFTER a Republican Poll was done, Lisa decides to do the write in… pointing out the split on moderate votors between Lisa and Scott, leaving Miller the ability to take the election… Gawd! the Repubs even eat their own base to stay in office !

So funny, CNN has a headline “Palin jousts with Rouse”, Obama’s new COS.

She says that Rouse had Obama steal the theme of “change” from her, and somehow was involved in the Troopergate investigation which started before McCain ever chose her, as though anyone knew who she was then. She is delusional. She must sit there in her mansion trying to get a rise out of anyone at all, as though this guy Rouse is going to pay any attention to her.

Has she jumped on Sharron Angle yet for making fun of the diagnosis of “autism”?

whatzername is trying , as usual, to pretend she’s on same plane as the Pres and Mr Rouse…
As she never rises more than 40 floors below them it is just more of the same old horsepunky.
She’s still mad Mr Obama was one of the folks who helped get the federal checkbook online thing going- another thing she was sure she thought of first…
The most hilarious part of the article is her contention that the Obama campaign stole “change ” from her…
One change we needed … and got, thank heavens.
The other needs to be dropped in the diaper pail where it/she belongs…

I posted this at the end of the Joe Miller thread but realized no one would see it, so I’ll post it again here.

According to Phil Munger (Progressive Alaska, 9-20-2010), Joe Miller told Munger that he, Miller, is “a severely disabled veteran.” I don’t believe Phil makes stuff up. Did Joe make this up? Or does Miller have a real disability, and, if so, what is it? His lying suggests a serious moral disability, but I doubt that’s what Miller was referring to. I’m waiting to see the spin put on this nugget when it hits the fan.

And thanks, Scout, for the link to Andrew Halcro and “Old Joe Miller’s Farm.” I hope he’ll be inspired to add new verses in the future.

In 2008 we bought a truck with a Murkowski sticker on it. It is our plow/work truck. It is pretty beat up. Never before have we had a issue with it. … Till this last month.

We don’t drive the truck into Wasilla very often. Maybe, maybe once a month. It has been scratched, mud spread on the windshield and the bumper sticker. A mickyD’s burger has been smashed under the wipers… But when the side mirror was knocked off… The sweetie reported the vandelizm (sp?).

I’ve a family member who had thier woodshed burned down and car oil speed about her property. And I won’t even talk about what they did to the dog… we believe this stuff happened because they had a sign that said “Thank God She Quit” on top of the woodshed… what can I say, my family member has a beef with Toad. sigh

Today I am inspired to be more polite about what I precieve to the the other side.

My inspiration comes from how McAdams is running a positive campaign and a opinion piece in the www. Frontiersman.com…

I’m gonna try to be nicer while expressing my opinion.

BTW, I think that Murkowski bumper sticker on the truck is from Franks campaign.

Go read the piece at the frontiersman and the one they talk about.

Now ya all are welcome to trash me for a Murky bumper sticker… But right now, it seems like the only place where the rust hasn’t taken over…

She hasn’t been in the news as much lately. Frankly, not only do people not like her, but it’s the same act you love to hate over and over. People can only watch Dumb and Dumber so often. And I think that her intimation that she’ll run for office in 2012 has taken away some of the mystery and allure. Remember those hair color commercials? “Does she or doesn’t she? Only her hair dresser knows for sure!” Well, now we know for sure, and the interest is gone.

    At least I’m hoping.
