    I just posted a comment on ADN wondering what Joe Miller’s position is on the separation of church and state. Joe likes to invoke “original intent;” and “states rights” with a George Wallace / Lester Maddox kind of bent. So what is Joe Millers position on the constitutional issue of “separation of church and state” as envisioned by the white men that founded our nation? Haven’t heard any discussion of this in the press or seen any press releases about it from any of the candidates. Joe is counting on votes from some of the larger Christian congregations in Alaska. If any church endorses Joe – they should loose their tax exempt status; period. I’m an atheist and I don’t want to subsidize churches that advocate on behalf of candidates (using political speech) but still get tax breaks because they claim they are religious organizations.

        Around election season all he does is preach politics from the pulpit.

      Religious right group faxing ‘voter guides’ to area churches

      “Metro area churches have become the target of a “Shock and Awe” voter guide put out by a group called the Pray in Jesus Name Project (PIJNP), a ministry in Colorado Springs, Colo. The group is encouraging it’s members to fax voters guides to churches in all 50 states, and the guides have started showing up in Minnesota.”

        Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson got in trouble before for this. Whoever it was, they had their businesses set up so the political side was separate from the church side. Until political materials showed up in the church. I don’t remember the outcome – probably a fine rather revocation of the church;’s tax exempt status.

          Churches never get their tax-exempt status revokes, even when it’s clear they should. Politicians/law enforcement are afraid of the churches, who love playing victim/martyr. “Oh, look how they’re persecuting us for our faith! Please give generously so we can fight Satan!”

    Questions that I would like to ask some in the Republican party…

    1. Why are they pushing the average Joe? If an individual wants to be a teacher, they have to have a degree. If they become a Doctor, they have to go to medical school. So, the new Congress is anti-elite this year, and those who graduated from HS only apply? Brillant!

    2. Why can’t we respect all religions? If Jesus was amongst us, would he be standing on the right protesting immigrants (or non legal citizens), and any other individual who is deemed different?

    3. Why does the former Gov of Alaska feel that she is qualified to be President if she quit her job as Gov? She could have touted her experience in being sued “often.” Doesn’t the Government get sued often by individuals and states who state they are fighting for their rights and do not want the government to abuse its powers?

    4. Why is there so much crazy rhetoric? If we can’t give individual health care and or mental health care, it woud be helpful if the (fear and anger) bravado would be brought down a notch.

      My three questions would be:

      1. If you don’t like what the Democrats propose, where’s your alternative?
      2. Why do you think campaigning based on misinformation, suspicion and hatred is good for the country?

    Or am I giving her too much credit?

        The noise intensified when Bauer’s wife got into a reality-style showdown with the young GOPers and Stieren at McGinley’s, an Irish bar popular with local Republicans that’s also owned by Anchorage’s mayor, and when someone sitting at the table filmed the whole thing on their iPhone.”

    “Guttenberg said they saw a different candidate in the November general election, in which he was running for re-election for the first time in House District 8. In the district based around the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Miller moved towards the middle, Guttenberg said. “He worked on not revealing who he was,” Guttenberg said. “I think he was a chameleon…”

    …What may be surprising to those who see Miller’s right-wing views now was how moderate he appeared in 2004. Among the issues Miller addressed then was support for more government spending on education, especially the university.

    On a candidate questionnaire at the time, Miller listed his legislative priorities as education (K-12, university), public health, public safety, resource development and transportation assets, in that order. The questionnaire was put out by a university group, and most of the questions revolved around university funding. Miller was in favor of everything. One issue on which Miller offered support was for “needs-based scholarships,” which he said should be supported with state general funds…

    …Miller also said he’d support using general fund money to make up a shortfall in public employee retirement programs and borrowing money for more to build more classroom and research facilities.

    …Guttenberg said he was convinced Miller moved to his district to run against him because he was the only Democrat in the area, and wanted the seat as a platform with which to run for higher office.

    “He thinks the world of himself,” he said. Guttenberg said he didn’t know whether Miller believed what he was saying in 2004, or was just saying it to get elected. “He might have gotten worse in the last six years,” he said.

    Could she run for office just to cement her place in history as the first teabag republican woman candidate for president. Maybe she just wants to get in the history books and insure her right wing celebrity because it will provide her with a speaking topic ($$$) for the rest of her life.

    Ya know, Joe wasn’t really planning to win this race, or be able to win. He was probably looking to go after Young’s seat in a couple of years as Congressman so he wanted to start his rise to fame and glory with this race.

    This is a good thing – it’s probably why he’s so off his game. We caught him off guard (all those pesky progressives trying to manipulate the general by votin’ for Joe) and he’s been scrambling ever since. He’s like Sarah – all of a sudden his eyes are filled with dollars and visions of power, and he’s slipping up a lot. He did not have his bases covered, no way no how.

    He was probably planning to slip into Don’s seat (who actually will retire one of these days, probably next time). Quietly, with no opposition. Just like Palin, this slime was trying to come in under the radar but ended up in the spotlight instead. I say that’s good – let’s shine the light on him so brightly that he continues to wither and dry up. He won’t stop here unless we get it all out and don’t give him time to cover his tracks.

    Palin had the benefit of huge assistance from McCain’s campaign to scrub her more sordid and truthful history in our state. Joe got shot out of the gate late, with no big campaign to help him except the Tea Party Express dollars. They might send money to flood the airwaves with their lies, but they have not been able to interfere with the true vetting process. Sensible Alaskans will prevail.

    We need to shut this creep down now, and forever more. We need real Alaskans coming up through the ranks, not a rank individual trying to come up through politics.

        YES! Hey, US Congress would be in shock, shock I tell you, to have Senators (McAdams & Begich) and Congressman Crawford – who are polite but tough. Young and Stevens are / were tough but assholy. You either loved them or hated them for that.

And then I realized the caption said Begich, and I said to myself, “that’s not Begich,” and then I woke up and actually READ it – Tom, not Mark. Okay, never mind.

    This has not been a good day for Sarah…..I honestly think the GOP are turning on her.

    “Here is the important thing. Handel lost. Sarah Palin bilked the Handel campaign out of over $100,000 and left them defeated and in debt. In a race that Handel lost by only 2,579 votes, do you think the campaign is second guessing their decision to spend six figures on a jet and hotel rooms for Sarah Palin? That money could have been used to aid the get out the vote effort on Election Day instead of meeting Sarah Palin’s need to be treated like an A-lister?”

    Lovely day here in NYC. Got all my errands done under the clear blue sky, and remained pleasantly cool. Then, when I opened the mail, I found my copy of Going to Extremes, Joe McGinniss’s first book about Alaska, and a postcard from Scott McAdams’s campaign, thanking me for my donation. Scott has a fresh haircut, and is wearing a suit and tie. His mustache is nicely trimmed.

    Scott looks positively SENATORIAL. Alaska, make it so!

    Oh, boy howdy… did y’all see this Tweetdignation from the Twit?
    “““““““““““““““““““`
    There’s no “there, there” but the lamestream media will keep on tryin’. See: http://is.gd/fOc4X
    10:12 AM Oct 6th via web
    “““““““““““““““““““`

    The page linked from the Twit’s Tweetdignation starts out with:

    Yesterday, the anti-Palin blog Mudflats leaked an email that Todd Palin had sent to several people, in which he complained about something Alaska Republican senatorial candidate Joe Miller had (not) said about Sarah Palin’s qualifications for the presidency. Predictably, a media frenzy ensued.

    Here’s Mr. Palin’s response, in a statement released to THE WEEKLY STANDARD:

    My family has worked hard in supporting Joe Miller, so when I heard he’d said something less than supportive of my wife’s efforts, I responded. But it turns out we’d gotten our wires crossed and Joe hadn’t said anything like what I’d been told. So there’s no story here except the fact that the press put our personal emails online again, and again couldn’t even be bothered to conceal our email addresses or take any steps to protect our privacy.

    (rest of article –and large-ish photo of Tawd– at link in the Tweetdignation.)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ummm, does Tawd also need a fire extinguisher to put out *his* flaming pants? Sorry, but *I* didn’t see any sites (to include “the anti-Palin blog Mudflats”) that included/left visible any “email addresses.” If memory serves me correctly, “the anti-Palin blog Mudflats”, that dastardly leaker of Tawd’s email in which Joe is slammed and is asked to step into $Ps shoe’s, completely covered the email addresses before posting Tawd’s writing/email online.
    How is slapping big black marks across edresses NOT “conceal(ing) [their] email addresses or take(ing) any steps to protect [their] privacy”?
    Sweet Holy-Moley…what alternate reality are the Palin’s living in? In what reality is *completely* redacted, *not* redacted? In what reality is “fact”, everything and anything, but? beth.
    –And, is his family really working “hard in supporting Joe Miller”? The *family*? Piper, Willow, Track, Bristol, included? (any of them, all of them, Charlie)… or is it just him and Missy Quitty-Pants working hard. Oh, Tawd, Tawd, Tawd, … don’cha know inquiring minds want to know? b. –
        I have to laugh, MUYS … one of the links from Wonkette lists the sites displaying Tawd’s edress. Of those, one is to the commentor who ‘outs’ it [on Wonkette] in the first place; one is to the mudflat’s WordPress pdf which is no longer visible/online; one is to a site in the UK offering to send him photos; and one is to an Italian ‘adult’ site (that my filter said was ‘safe’ and gave the ‘green light’ to, but was definitely NSFW in the graphics/image/name-icon department!– it was for toad1982, but at hotmail, not gmail.)
        When I do the googles on toad1982 at the gmail, there are *NO* ‘hits.’ When I do the googles for Joe [as it's verbatim outted by the Wonkette commentor] *his* email turns up 3 hits: one to the mudflats pdf that’s no longer online; one to the ‘outting’ comment, itself; and one to a mishmash between Joe/his lawyers and Andrew Halcro re: accusations of Halcro being in collusion with Lisa Murcowsky…Merkowskee…Merkew–whatever [just write it correctly, AK voters ;-) and Joe's 'voluntary leaving FSNB' -- http://joemiller.us/download/Press%20Conf-Statement-FNSB.pdf --
        Oddly enough, when I do the googles of "Todd Palin's email address," I get 125,000 hits...all but two being about his shenannigans with emails while Missy Quitty-Pants was governot. [Substituting "Toad" for "Todd" gets zero results for his (purported) gmail account.]
        So, again, Toady-Tawdy-Todd; what, exactly, are you talking about when you say: “the press put our personal emails online again, and again couldn’t even be bothered to conceal our email addresses or take any steps to protect our privacy.”
        If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one around to hear it, does it make a sound? If no one captured your edress from an online wordpress post and spread it internet-wide, T-T-T, just because you say it’s a “fact” that they did, is it?
        I still say he needs a fire extinguisher for his burning pants. beth.
    But, did watch a video today that brought a tear to my eye – the Rutgers Uni student who committed suicide really got to me, so I’ve been viewing some of the “it gets better” videos, and Andrew Sullivan had a great one linked:
