Right now, my pipe dream of a home in the woods, 10 miles from civilization, with a high fence and mean dogs is looking like nirvanna. Alaska would suit me just about perfectly.

If dogs can be trained to sniff out drugs and cancer, I wonder if they could be trained to target far right ideologues as well;)

Just some rationality and common sense, that’s all I wish for our country. Instead we get insanity and “gimme mine, screw you.” I’m not even politically affiliated. I don’t believe in Dems or Repubs. Just plain rationality and critical thinking. I’m an independant if there ever was one. But the Repubs have just gone too far to even be worth considering these days, and Dems at the least have some levelheadeness on their side even if they try to do too much.

    Oh well.

    • LoveMyDogs says:

Come out to my end of the road. My dogs can sniff out far right ideologues and evangelists from miles away. We try to think critically (at my house anyway). And you don’t even need a high fence. Can’t promise you that we aren’t surrounded by complete idiots but at least you can’t see them from your doorstep. If I never had to go to town I’d be happy. You can always shoot somethin’ if you get hungry.

Problem is: we can’t ever really escape the world at large and what is happening to it. And I find it hard to ignore a neighbor in need (no matter how stupid they may be).

    • ferob says:

Your name caught my eye. I have a nephew in NYS with the same name.

  2. Paul Novak says:

Well, at least none of you live in a state where the Governor elect ran on a platform of gutting environmental regulations, creating corporate tax breaks, reducing workers benefits, reducing education funding, and oh btw, was CEO of a company found guilty of a billion’s worth of fraud, but of course, he knew nothing about it, who also bought his way into the governors mansion with 70 million.

I have been planning on leaving Florida for 2 years now. I will be outta here before Jan 1st.

Disgusted doesnt begin to describe how I feel about my country right now.

8 years we lived with republicans dismantling a prosperous economy and raping the middle class. When it call comes crashing down, the Dems are called on to clean it up, as they have every time this happens, and when 8 years of destruction is not cleaned up overnight, the sheep that make up the U.S. public line right back up for the slaughter.

2 things will happen in the next 2 years.

Repubs WILL NOT allow ANYTHING the Dems do to become successful.
We will enter into what may become historically recorded as one of the darkest times in U.S history as our economy collapses.

I am not looking forward to the future,

    • LoveMyDogs says:

(((((Paul)))) and for Florida too. Come to Alaska, we’ve always been nuts. And you know this is where the end times are supposed to be happening. There should be a lot of good stuff lying around when these people all get raptured.

  3. LoveMyDogs says:

Pat: Has your Patty Murray won?

  4. LoveMyDogs says:

But many of the rich fell, and fell hard, in the Great Depression. Maybe that is what it is going to take.

  5. Bev says:

Here in Ohio we lost our Gov…and our Senator….And the Gov we got used to work for Wall Street, now what was the tea party thinking with that one???
They want less government and then they pick one that will bankrupt their state…guess no one ever said they were smart.

And Rand Paul said there are “no rich or poor people, we are all together”…huh????
Gee, guess if that is so, I can walk into any store and buy what any rich person buys…yep, I will try that tomorrow.

    Tea Party=dumbed down government.

    • LoveMyDogs says:

      It just sucks doesn’t it?

      • Bev says:

Worse then sucks…just can not think of a word in the English language that really sums it up totally.

I was a bopper in the fifties, a hippie in the 60’s, a mother in the 70’s, struggled as a single mother in the 80’s and 90’s…a grandmother in 2010 and through it all I was always a Liberal Democrat.
And believe me there were a lot of changes in those many years and I never voted against my ideals, best interests and never out of anger….so what were they all thinking????

    • Yeah, personally I liked the part where he said the only true thing he’s ever said – we all know rich people and work for rich people so we shouldn’t punish rich people. OK, that’s going to work really well- we just give the rich people everything they want because they control us anyway.

      • LoveMyDogs says:

Hey I went to college with rich people. And I am talking RICH people. The kind who could never work another day in their lives and their great-great grandchildren wouldn’t have to suffer. Let’s let em have it all. That will keep my job for me and keep me warm in my old age. Hope I have enough to pay the taxes on the one piece of land that I own with no house, heat or running water. Can’t wait to live in that tent when I have no SS. At least I won’t live long enough to need Medicare (cause as soon as the dogs die I will freeze). That’s what america is all about!

      • Bev says:

That’s trickle down economics and Rev Sharpton said “we never got the trickle, just the down.”

The poor has always worked for the rich, just like peons to the king’s of big business, we make it, they take it and expect us to be grateful.
They need to be punished because they are selling us out to oversea companies and that is really how the foreign countries will own us…no bombs, just keep selling us out.

        • LoveMyDogs says:

Yup. Except now it won’t be just the poor. Or, actually, we will ALL end up being poor and begging for their scraps.

  6. LoveMyDogs says:

And what is Bristol still doing on DWTS????

    • Bretta says:

      LOL

$owah PayMe’s minions didn’t get the memo that Bristol was just supposed to be on long enough to make a couple hundred grand. Now the costumers are working double time to hide the the baby bump getting larger each week – at which they are genius, but not magicians. Anyway, I’m enjoying the speculation and laughing at the scenario of Bristol’s mommy’s meltdown soon-to-come when the failed abstinence must be explained once again.

      • LoveMyDogs says:

She was whining and crying about missing her family and just wanting to go home. The stupid bots ought to let her go home. Even her partner is wondering how this is happening. What a joke. Makes me mad. I really liked that show when at least by now it didn’t look quite so much like a popularity contest…..

    • Exactly what my daughter and I said when we watched it today. We missed it last night because we had dinner with a friend visiting from Australia. Good thing – don’t think I could have taken election returns and watching Bristol get to stay on DWTS when she should have gone home three weeks ago. Argh!

  7. LoveMyDogs says:

I waited 24 hours to try to get the fuming out of my system but, alas, it is not to be.

So I am sorry mudpups but my kumbayah is gone. I have HAD it! I wanted my President (whom I worked hard to get elected and have supported through thick and thin) to come out with the gloves off today and he didn’t. He may be a statesman but for f*#k’s sake dude, a part of me wanted him to say “F8%k it. I’ll just veto everything”. If he plays nice with them they will slit his throat. They can play it that this happens at midterms during hard times but it is different. He is the first black president and I want him to be GREAT! I want to put all of the racists in their freaking place!

The pundits were not aknowledging that $Ps picks lost last night. They were falling all over themselves to dub her “the kingmaker”. WTF America???

Another part of me is sickly hoping that Joe the teabagger pulls this off in the end because I want all of these people who wanted him there and those that turned their backs on a better choice to have to live with the consequences. I feel the same way about the Rubio and Paul supporters. That’s what standing on a streetcorner with 2 other people with Scott McAdams signs and waving and smiling only to get flipped off will make you feel. I am NOT a turn the other cheek person when it goes this far.

And Boner crying on TV like the end of the world had been diverted? Yon Dung calling for Obama to be replaced??? These people have NO SHAME.

Let their schools and roads and bridges fall down while the fiddler plays in Washington. End SS and Medicare and Medicaid and Denali Kid Care. We don’t need any help. We can all do it on our own. Ethics? Sanity? We don’t need any of that either. Let the teachers and firefighters lose their jobs. We don’t need no stinking government in our lives. Except for reproductive rights and women getting equal pay and people being able to serve in the military and marry whomever they want. Can’t have that. Let those people who can’t find a job or don’t have a roof over their head or are dying from some disease that their healthcare plan won’t cover just suffer. It’s their fault you know. Or maybe some church will deign to help them if they are willing to convert. Don’t want kids?? Tough. You HAVE to have them if you have sex and your birth control fails. But we aren’t gonna help you if you need it once the kid is born. You should have kept your legs together.

And don’t even get me started on the environment. We have lots of land up here. Take it back from the stinking feds and drill, mine, rape it to the fullest. We are the white men and we have a born right to do whatever the hell we want. If you lived here first? Tough. It has happened to all indigenous people throughout history so that somehow makes it OK. And we will even convince you that it is in your interest. Their twisted version of survival of the fittest. We don’t need sustainable resources when we can mine gold, coal and molybdenum and drill in our oceans for oil and not regulate any of it. Oil spills???? Acts of nature. No one will notice. Whoopee–oil went up to $85/barrel this morning. Not invested in oil? Too bad for you.

This country is made up of political alcoholics. We’ve fallen off the wagon and we’re going to enjoy our binge and blame it all on the Dems in 2012. How far down is the bottom? Will we find it? Will it be Pres Palin? Or will we all have fallen off the cliff by then?

Alaska hasn’t changed one bit politically and probably never will. I’m not sure that I can take it anymore. People may hate Harry Reid but he seemed to be the only one who had any fight left in him last night. I think most of the country has gone completely insane and I feel like checking out.

Thanks for listening. Sorry for the rant. I am just soooooo stinking angry.

    • I was going to write something along these lines, but you pretty much said it all. I’ll just add my ditto to everything you said. I am so thoroughly disgusted. I still like President Obama, but, please, get a clue – someone who says their most important goal is to keep him from being elected. Really? I’m sure last time I checked we had more important issues than that. And you just can’t compromise with someone who says you have to do it my way and then we’ll talk. There’s not one republican out there that will ever get my vote.

    • Bev says:

I am hoping he was taking the high road in public and in private he will take names like the Clintons did….

I am waiting for the tea party people in congress to do something that will affect the federal government and when the first tea partier needs a federal loan or subsidy and they get this response..”sorry but you asked for less government.” So, also turn in your medical card and SS card, we are down sizing and oh by the way, we are also making you less safe because we are cutting defense as well.

There is no way to get less government and still get benefits…but we could cut some spending if we demand no more raises in congress and in the senate and tell them to cut spending by cutting their pay. Funny the tea party never asked about that.

      • LoveMyDogs says:

Cut their pay, cut their benefits, cut their staff I say. Bunch of hypocrits. I hope Michelle Bachman makes Boner’s life a living hell and Rand Paul goes completely bonkers when he realizes that these people are NOT libertarians. His speech…..OMG. “Respectfully” my a**.

    • MoDi says:

Me, too. I am so angry and depressed today, I really feel like I want to just move to another country. Somewhere far, far away. WTH is the matter with people? I just really didn’t think there were so many ignorant people out there. I really thought the moderates and progressives, and yes, liberals, would far outnumber the teabaggers and nutjobs. Boy, was I wrong.

I live in Mo., and worked on the campaign of Robin Carnahan-D for the open Senate seat vacated by retiring Kit Bond-R (blech!). Unfortunately, she lost to the far-right lunatic liar Roy Blunt-R. Aaarrghhh!

I love President Obama, but when he came out today and said he would be willing to work with the Rethugs, I said WTF? He has bent over backwards to appease them for the last 2 years, and all they do is scream and lie and stomp their feet like 2-year olds, and slam him every chance they get. And, they’ve made it plain they will continue to obstruct every single thing he tries to do. P!ss on them. It’s time to get tough!

Yes, at the moment, I would like to go far away and lick my wounds. Unfortunately, since I have no money and no retirement, I won’t actually be going anywhere.

    • bubbles says:

      me too.

Dan Fagan wonders whether his yellow jacket makes him look fat…. Surprised it isn’t red and where the heck is the flag pin???

  9. Latitude 66 N says:

    OK, peevish. (Grumble)

  10. Latitude 66 N says:

I know it’s petty but I’m feeling understandably peavish today: what the hell is Lisa wearing??!! It’s not like she didn’t know she’d be on camera.

I, for one, plan to hold the repubs accountable for a fully functioning government of, by and for the people, and not the Republicans or the corporations.

p.s. Til the votes are counted, my fantasy is that tens of thousands of Alaskans decided on a lark to write in Scott’s name.

  11. Ice Gal says:

Thanks for running Scott. Your are the best we have ever seen!

  12. Laurie says:

Looks like Van Flein peeled his Miller sticker off somebody else’s jacket before he went inside to observe.

Yes, Scott McAdams is a class act
From start to finish,in this race, he’s brought something to this state we haven’t seen for a long time

    • PollyinAK says:

Don’t ya see future governor material?

I read that Scott won District 35 (Homer).

      • Alaska Pi says:

        He won District 3 (Juneau downtown/Douglas ) too. 🙂
We’ll sweep the walks and put a light on for you in the mansion , Scott!

    • Valley_Independent says:

A class act, indeed. I see a very bright future for Mr. McAdams, and I will be happy to assist in any way I can. You got my vote.

    • Man_from_Unk says:

Yes, we haven’t seen an honest politician in Alaska for a long, long time.

  14. Moose Pucky says:

Thanks for those photos, AKM. Those of us in far-away forests and sloughs like to see what’s happening in anchortown.

Lisa seems happy with her corporate coronation.

Scott McAdams is a class act.

  15. TheRubberRoomHotel says:

A friend sent this to me~

There once was a man, some guy named Joe
whose ethics were lower than lower than low.
“I am the cleverest ever, I’ll soon be elected —
I’ve picked out my drapes and a house I’ve selected!
    I won’t answer questions, that’s what I’ll do —
if reporters keep asking, I’ll handcuff a few.
I’ll hide all my hacking and cheating on taxes —
erase all my emails and burn all my faxes!”Sadly for Joe, it was not to be so,
his scheme was detected; he was not elected.
“No problem”, he smirked as he fled our great state —
“my new show with FOX is on Tuesdays at 8”.

  16. Lacy Lady says:

Bad night here in Iowa. We lost our Gov Culver (D) to former Gov (R) Terry Branstad. UGH!!!!
But worse of all, we lost all 3 of our supreme court justices. The religious right really did a number on us. They are so angry about the gay marriage law they want to reverse. It would be interesting if our now Gov. Culver would appoint new justices while he still has 2 more months in office. If not, it will be interesting to see who Branstad will appoint and what the religious right has in mind.

  17. Jen says:

Oh yes! Where was party planner? Did she deliver the cake to Joe’s door?

  18. Jen says:

Yeah, what is with the lack of hair on the Van Flein? Or is he also on goon watch?

  19. All I Saw says:

I’m surprised Bernadette didn’t bomb every photo taken last night.

  20. Polly says:

I’m so glad Pete Peterson won.

Great photos. Dan Fagan didn’t look very happy.

It was good to read in the ADN, that Parnell is cleaning house.
    http://www.adn.com/2010/11/03/1534882/parnell-to-begin-elected-term.html

    • Alaska Pi says:

Glad to see it on one hand, not so sure he will make any better choices than whatzername given the adherence to certain values they share…
getting awful dang tired of the same old sue-the-fed-over-everything-which-might-affect-business stuff

      • InJuneau says:

Some of them (commissioners) are actually really good (well, at least one…). Hope he keeps at least some of the directors too…

    • Motorhead says:

All I could think of when I saw that picture of Fagan … Jabba the Hut.

Hey, speaking of Fagan, perhaps with his new skill, “Community Organizer,” that he displayed last Thursday on the radio, he could apply that charisma and enthusiasm over the air-waves to round up a volunteer cleanup of all those obnoxious, ubiquitous campaign signs littering all of Anchorage within the next few days. This could be as big a help to the community as the annual Spring Cleanup of the other, regular litter. How ’bout it, Danno!

    • Man_from_Unk says:

I too was happy to read in ADN that Gov. Parnell is cleaning house. He needs a strong staff in Fish and Game to deal with the salmon declines all over the state.

If Scott is 3 or 4 Lisas I wonder how many Megans he is….my guess is at least 5. We took down our yard signs today. I was 0 for 4….sigh. Put it in the garage next to my Fran for Gov and Ethan for US Rep.

Is Thomas Van Flein a skinhead biker on the side??
