Oyster Roundup – Independence Day Edition

Happy Independence Day! Of course, “Alaskan Independence Day” was yesterday, the two year anniversary of the event at Lake Lucille in Wasilla that we like to cal “Quitstock.”  That’s right, Sarah Palin abdicated the governorship and left us in the not-so-capable hands of Captain Zero. We Alaskans were rid of her whether we individually wanted [...]

Open Thread – The Walk Back

Happy 4th!  I hope you are all enjoying yourselves in the real world, and in this virtual one. Last night we walked down the length of my driveway, enjoying some of the beautiful things to be seen. Tonight, if you’re rested up, we’ll take the trip back. It really is the peak of the season [...]

Open Thread – Nature Walk on the Driveway

Before we begin, may I be the first to wish you all a Happy Alaskan Independence Day. Yes, it was on July 3, 2009 that Sarah Palin announced she’d be stepping down from the job that she hated for the good of the state. I thought about writing something up about that, and then decided [...]

MUDFLIX: Gay Barbarians at the Gate – Marcus Bachmann as First Dude

In this clip, Keith Olbermann talks to Ken Vogel of Politico about the potential trainwreck, or elevation of the Bachmann campaign. The trials of the self-named Corrupt Bastards Club were the best pieces of legislative and judicial theater around, and had Alaskans who normally didn’t pay attention to politics riveted, and infuriated. They may not have been keeping up [...]

Open Thread – Islands

Most people don’t picture this when they think of “getting away to the islands,” but I do. This shot is from a trip to Prince William Sound last month.

Alaska Grown vs Made In China

The past two budgets have included $84 million for a bridge…to somewhere in Alaska. Senators Wielechowski and French have written a letter to the Alaska Railroad with some concerns. ANCHORAGE- Today, Senators Bill Wielechowski and Hollis French are calling on Alaska Railroad officials to ensure steel products made only in America are used to build [...]

Open Thread – Munching

I was hanging out on the deck today, and was there quite a while before I noticed Brian was hanging out in the yard being lazy and content, and munching on the grass. He’s got a nice velvety rack coming in and appeared completely blissed out, enjoying the day.  A handsome fellow, indeed.
