Palin Humiliated by Bill O’Reilly. “What Would YOU Do?”

OK, Mudflatters…  It’s been a little while since we’ve gone on a group foray into Palin World, but this one I couldn’t resist. This interview was quite something.  The “naughty librarian” is nowhere in sight.  Palin’s latest incarnation is more like the mean librarian.  The one who slams a giant book on the table next to you when she catches you whispering. (Yes, I’m speaking from experience)   Tight-lipped, jaw-clenched, death-stare librarian, complete with the Xtra Large helmet shaped bumpit.

Fair warning.  You’ll find yourself cheering for Bill O’Reilly.

I meant to post this last night, but frankly after transcribing into the wee hours of the morning, the only reasonable course of action was to become unconscious for a long period of time.  So here I am, fresh as a daisy with all my supplies.  Too, also, you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared for our little hike up Crazy Mountain… also.

Tums? Check.

Desk padding to prevent head injury? Check.

Rubber boots?  Check.

Cool damp cloth?  Check.

High protein snack?  Check.

Liquor? Check.

My comments and references will appear in blue.  If you can view the video, you can read along.

O’Reilly: Let’s now go to some of our astute Fox News analysts. First up, joining us from Wasilla, Alaska, the former governor of that state, Sarah Palin. Did you have a big beef with the president in any way tonight governor?

OK, sorry to interrupt already, but imagine Tina Fey saying that first sentence.  Palin has mastered the self-parody.  It’s really quite astounding.  And also note the length of sentence #3 whose gargantuan size permits discussion of three-legged stools, drilling, getting on our knees and bowing to Hugo Chavez….  well, you’ll see. Longest. Sentence. Ever.

Palin:I did. I kinda have a big beef with you too though Bill if you don’t acknowledge that President Obama is wrong on his call for a need for energy policy. Certainly we need that but he is wrong not to acknowledge that we still need on a three-legged stool, the conventional sources of energy to be drilled here, otherwise Bill we are going to be dropped to our knees and bowing to the Saudis, and Venezuela and places like Russia that will keep producing oil and petroleum products, and we will have to let them produce for us because we will still be dependent upon these sources of energy in addition though, too, shifting more towards renewables, which of course we need, and the other leg of that stool is conservation. President Obama… it scares me – it saddens me that the CEO of our nation does not understand that inherent link between the conventional sources of energy that we’re dependent upon and our security, our prosperity, our freedom.

This is the second or third time I’ve heard Palin refer to the President as the CEO.  I know that corporations are now people thanks to the Republican Supreme Court, but I’m not quite ready to jump right in to the Corporate States of America.  And I say that as a shareholder…. um… I mean citizen.

O’Reilly: OK, what was the … When you were the governor of a state, you dealt with oil companies all the time. What was the most difficult thing you had to deal with when you were having meetings with them face to face?

Palin:  Believing that their perception of what the circumstances were in any situation that we dealt with them, whether it be a spill or lax infrastructure maintenance, or the value of the resource that was being sold, and any of those issues. It was believing what they were telling me and my administration in terms of their perspective on what the facts were. Now here’s where the problem lies with President Obama in waiting so long, you know eight weeks before meeting with the CEO of BP and with the high ranking officials that have been calling the shots. He has allowed this industry player to define the facts so they are in this position of having just astronomical maximum liability exposure. He has allowed them to define the facts of this spill. You can never be allowed to do that as a CEO and be on a level playing field – being equals there at the table when you allow one side of the table, in this case BP in dealing with this spill to define the facts.

Other than the fact that her biggest problem was wrapping her little mind around the fact that oil companies lie, I have no idea what it means either.

O’Reilly: 49% of Americans still want BP to run the show, and 45% want the government to run the show so most Americans aren’t down with having the Obama administration call the shots. Now, President Obama is basically a dreamer. I think he wants good things for the nation as far as energy is concerned. You made a valid point. We can’t throw the oil people under the bus.

Was THAT what she was trying to say?

If we do that, our economy is going to tank totally, and if we spend billions of dollars on pie in the sky stuff that doesn’t work, then we’re going to go bankrupt. So what is your solution here, governor? What would you do tonight? Tell the nation here tonight what you would have said – your main point in that speech. Go.

Here’s why you need the cool moist cloth for your face.  Yes, Bill O’Reilly just asked Palin the very thing I would have asked her, in the very same tone in which I would have asked it!  Wonders never cease.  So, CEO who quit your job half way through… what would YOU do?

Palin: Stop…stopping the gusher. That’s the number one priority of the nation. We need to make sure that all technology is being thrown at this problem.

O’Reilly: Nobody knows how to do it.

Palin: Well, we haven’t had that assurance that President Obama… We haven’t had assurance by the president that that has been his top priority, instead, what his top priority is, Bill, is Cap & Tax. It is using this crisis, not letting it go to waste, but to use this crisis to increase the costs of energy and that is going to stall any kind of economic recovery we have.

O’Reilly continues channeling Mudflats…

O’Reilly: Are you telling me that you don’t think the President’s top priority is stopping that leak? Are you…. Is that what you’re telling me?

Palin: What I am telling you is that is not what I’m hearing,

See, that’s what happens when you take your sheet of talking points, wad it up and stuff it in your ears while saying “Lalalalalalalala!”

what the American public is hearing from the top official in our government and that’s why those poll numbers show that no, the public… we don’t know where to turn if we can’t trust BP to be able to fix this leak, we know we can’t trust government because they’ve had eight weeks of overseeing, of regulating,

Eight weeks of regulating?  I think you mean more than eight years of DEregulating.

and of kind of um coaching this whole process, this whole issue of stopping the leak and they haven’t succeeded in doing it. So the people are very frustrated and no, we have to know that President Obama’s number one priority is to stop the leak.

OK, ready?  Here’s the listening part.  This is only one of many references to the priority of the administration. You can read them all at Media Matters:

“During a May 27 press conference, Obama said: “Those who think that we were either slow on our response or lacked urgency don’t know the facts. This has been our highest priority since this crisis occurred.” He also commented: “But here’s the broad point: There has never been a point during this crisis in which this administration, up and down up the line, in all these agencies, hasn’t, number one, understood this was my top priority — getting this stopped and then mitigating the damage; and number two, understanding that if BP wasn’t doing what our best options were, we were fully empowered and instruct them, to tell them to do something different.””

O’Reilly:  But I assume that it is. I’m assuming it is.

This whole cheering on Bill O’Reilly thing is starting to get disturbing.

But look, the reason I’m pleased to have you on the program tonight is because there is not a governor in the United States who has more experience than you do dealing with the oil companies. You’ve already said you can’t believe them, that their word doesn’t mean much when you’re debating issues as far as the oil companies interest and the interest of the people. You can’t believe them. OK. Now the oil company BP says, “We don’t know how to stop the leak. We’re going to try ‘x’, we’re going to dig another well, we’re going to do this…. We don’t know. We don’t know.” Obama obviously doesn’t know how to stop the leak. Do YOU know how to stop it?

No you don’t!  Say it!  (O’Reilly gets the giant bumpit death stare)

Palin: Well, then what the federal government should have done was accept the assistance of foreign countries, of entrepreneurial Americans who have had solutions that they wanted presented.

O’Reilly: Who? Who?

Let the unraveling begin!  Here we see the scary librarian in full bloom.  Yikes.

Palin:  They can’t even get a phone call returned, Bill. The Dutch! They are known…and the Norwegians are known for um dikes, and for cleaning up water and for dealing with spills. They offered to help and yet no… they too with the proverbial can’t even get a phone call back. That is what the Norwegians are telling us and the Dutch are telling us and the entrepreneurial Americans the the company in Maine that has the boom and um the the uh absorbants – those companies that are waiting for the Obama administration eight weeks later for the regulators to come in and say “OK, we’ll purchase from you now and we’ll do all that we can.” That’s where some of the frustration is. Now we saw the same thing with Katrina though didn’t we, so I’m not going to point fingers and make this a partisan issue at all – point fingers at different administrations but um it is that inherent problem that we have with government not necessarily being prepared because our priorities in government are wrong. National security – safety of the people needs to be the top priority. That’s where we need to be funding instead of funding these other things on the periphery that really just get in the way of the private sector’s progress and their ability to produce and to thrive and to prosper and instead our priorities in the national government have been screwed up. Now as governor of Alaska, what I did in dealing with the oil companies, and I’ll betcha 75% of my time was being taken up by energy issues here in this state.

I had to set up our Petroleum Systems Integrity Office

Had to? Note that there was already a mechanism put in place by her predecessor Frank Murkowski. See HERE.

so that we could be there on the front lines making sure what the oil companies were telling us was legit, when they were dealing with their corroded pipes that we found out and other lax maintenance issues. It took us putting that as the highest priority to protect our resources, to protect our environment, including not only the physical environment but the human environment here.

Well, let’s see… If we start the dike in Alabama, and wind it around Florida and up the coast…. Yeah, we better call the Dutch.  We wouldn’t want to start something like that without advice.  And I’m really glad she’s not going to be “finger pointing”.

And by the way, there are 15 foreign-flagged vessels in the Gulf right now, and we’ve accepted equipment and assistance from many foreign countries INCLUDING … wait for it…. Norway and The Netherlands.  Are we really surprised?

And as far as her track record of success in protecting the environment?  Less than stellar, according to Mudflats contributor Richard Fineberg.

O’Reilly: Alright, it’s a good point. There wasn’t anybody from the Minerals Management Service out on the pipeline checking it out. That’s for sure. Hey governor, always a pleasure. Thanks for coming on.

Palin: No, the.. the… Bill.

Interruption, after he’s already said good-bye?   What important point could she have forgotten?

O’Reilly: Make it quick.

Palin: We we we can’t afford though to… we can’t afford to demonize these energy producers to such an extent they’ll that they go under. We do need to work with them though to verify everything there is and hold them accountable for all that they have done in this situation.

That’s right.  We can’t demonize the aforementioned lying bastards because they do give a lot of money to political campaigns.  And we do need to hold them accountable.  Remember how the victims of the Exxon Valdez got screwed out of their rightful settlement by the Supreme Court?  That happened during the very brief Palin administration and three months before her Couric interview.  And remember when Katie Couric asked VP candidate Palin if there was any Supreme Court decision she didn’t agree with?  When she presented the question on a silver platter for this oil expert governor to talk about how we need to hold those lyin’ oil companies accountable for what they do?

Take it away, “governor!”

“I kinda have a big beef with you too though Bill if you don’t acknowledge that President Obama is wrong on his call for a need for energy policy.” How NOT to make friends with the media. She’s an albatross and O’Reilly knows it.

How’s that folksy, b*tchy thing workin’ out for ya, Quitty?

Tha women is an incoherent idiotic.

  7. OMG says:

And the last paragraph of The Kindgom of the Netherlands press release (date 28 May 2010) reads:

“The U.S. and the Dutch are working closely together on water related issues. Immediately after Hurricane Katrina and Rita struck, the Netherlands provided assistance in battling flood waters in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson recently visited the Netherlands to discuss these issues. The Dutch and American collaboration continues to evolve and makes the Netherlands the U.S. go-to partner for water management solutions, working together on flood protection in Louisiana and other states, mitigating the impact of rising sea levels on America’s coastlines and developing partnerships that prepare our economies for short and long-term water challenges.”

What phone call was not returned Sarah?

  8. OMG says:

I’ve lost track of everything that has been posted. This from The Kingdom of the Netherlands (Sarah, that’s the Dutch):

    http://dc.the-netherlands.org/News/Press_Releases/Dutch_to_Provide_Assistance_in_Clean_Up_of_Gulf_Oil_Spill

    It says:

“Dutch to Provide Assistance in Clean Up of Gulf Oil Spill

    Press release | 28 May 2010”

“At the request of U.S. authorities, the Dutch Minister of Transport, Camiel Eurlings, has offered three sets of sweeping arms (6 arms in total) and auxiliary equipment to be used to collect oil spilled from the Deepwater Horizon incident, in the Gulf of Mexico.”

What I think may be saddest is that her fans & tea-baggers will believe, in the face of evidence, that Pres Obama didn’t accept help. It makes me want to vomit, also, too.

    Thank you Bretta!

Whew. The world will not end today. She was lying, as per usual.

  10. Carol says:

Quitter governot ( governot – exactly!) was so far all over the place, I can’t be sure, but did I understand the TeaParty, Small government Madam to advocate that the government should nationalize BP? Take over the gusher? Go, Big Government! She continues to operate from a platform of misinformation, no information and make it up as she goes. All those newspapaers she reads, yeah-sure. In this blog, it’s obvious that someone does read newspapers, paper and online, and can reference specifics, which she continues to be unable to do. I just wish she’d go away.

    • lilybart says:

Yes, she is advocating for Nationalizing our oil business, that is the only way to keep the oil here so we don’t need Chavez, or something.

She doesn’t understand how the oil market works. That per barrel price we hear about everyday? That IS the price of any oil from any country. It is all a big vat of international oil. And we don’t want to hog our own oil because we don’t have enough and what if other countries reacted by refusing to sell us oil if we hog our own?

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

This is a key point that is largely not understood by anyone. Oil is fungible.

There are actually classes within the front markets for oil such as west texas light sweet crude versus brent north sea heavy crude. But the price spread is fairly small.

That is one of the huge problems that confronts us in becoming energy idependent. At the present we enjoy a low price for fuel compared for example to Europe because we consume 20% of the world supply of oil. If our consumption decreases, the price of oil here will rise.

How do we manage that reality?

    • lilybart says:

Governot, I am stealing that too!

Also, too, stealing….she put the LOL in Idealology

  11. J. Fred Smug says:

I love how she refers to “the Dutch” as somehow “they” were all the same. My family (both sides) came from Holland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I’ve had the privilege of traveling there many times (ahem. . . . $arah Palin, who got her very first passport only a couple years ago, has never even been there ONCE).

$arah, “the Dutch” have built dikes for centuries because their land is BELOW SEA LEVEL, not to protect their land from leaking oil.

Trust me, $arah. You know NOTHING about “the Dutch” and it’s long past time for you to STFU.

  14. Bretta says:

Smackdown by President Obama – What a great idea!!
We Alaskans shudda done this [even if $20Billion won’t be enough] when the Exxon-Valdez smashed up:

    The New York Times
    Wed, June 16, 2010 — 11:58 AM ET
    —–

BP Agrees to Place About $20 Billion in Escrow for Spill Claims

The White House and top executives of the energy giant BP have tentatively agreed that the oil company will pay about $20 billion over several years into an independently controlled fund to pay compensation to people and businesses harmed by the immense oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The fund would be overseen by Kenneth Feinberg, the prominent lawyer who ran the compensation fund for victims of the Sept.
11 terror attacks and is the government’s special master for executive pay under the TARP program. President Obama demanded the creation of such a fund in his national address about the oil spill Tuesday evening, and met with company execcutives at the White House on Wednesday.

    • lilybart says:

You ended up with 5 billion and now the Gulf does not have to be at the mercy of a court.

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Sorry to correct Lilybart but that was $507 million, the supreme court cut the award by 90%.

  15. Bucsfan says:

Anyone else get the feeling that Bill probably go called into the principals office after the interview?

    • zyggy says:

lol what would they say to him “Please Billy, try and make her look smart? He would have peed his pants from laughing if Faux told him to do that .

  16. Xenon says:

When even FOX tires of your idiocy, you know it’s time to quit…or run for president. Sheesh.

  17. Marilyn in Allentown says:

I’ve just watched the interview between Bill and Sarah without the sound and have finally understood the full effect of what generation after generation of women being deprived of solid education has meant to our country and our world. The emphasis on strategic skin as opposed to fact, the finger waving, the acting-a-part complete with odd hairstyle and shiny lips. A facade as opposed to competence. Her rise has been instructive. Here’s hoping her fall will be the same.

  18. trisha08 says:

OMG, it’s amazing how a few pointed questions brings can bring her down. Gee, I guess Fox edited this to make her look bad…..just like the Couric interview. Bwhwhahahahaha!

BTW, her fangs were showing. She is one mean Mother……….

    • Marnie says:

And she can’t single out Faux as a member of the lame stream media. They are her bread and butter. If they serve it, she has to eat it and say, yumm.

Got to the flats from Andrew Sullivan.

  20. DF says:

I could make up my own analysis of Obama, BP, and the oil spill but probably wouldn’t make as much money as SHE does. Astonishing! Word salad with vinegar.

  21. Irishgirl says:

I don’t know if this has been posted already, but it is a great article. Here’s a snippet.

Sarah Palin may have thought she was going to dazzle Fox News viewers with her grasp of energy policy which she had undoubtedly just boned up on thanks to her team of tutors and she obviously hoped to use that know how to undermine President Obama in the wake of his prime time address on the BP oil spill last night (6/15/10). Fox News was, apparently, banking on Palin, too. They booked her as the first guest on The O’Reilly Factor immediately following Obama. There was just one itsy bitsy problem: O’Reilly repeatedly challenged her assertions and then demolished her credibility altogether by asking what she would do to stop the leak. Not only couldn’t Palin answer the question, she also made the ridiculous statement that Norwegians are experts at dikes.

    http://www.newshounds.us/2010/06/16/oreilly_demolishes_palin_by_asking_for_her_solution_to_the_bp_oil_disaster.php

  22. tigerwine says:

‘scuse if this has already been posted! KO reported on his broadcast last night that Mexico, the Dutch and Norwegians have all contributed to the oil spill. Somebody get this to Politifact. Oh, I guess I will!

    • lilybart says:

And one Dutch ship that offered help was only turned down because they were too small.

  23. strangelet says:

I’m 3/4 Norwegian (three immigrant grandparents) and grew up in Wisconsin, which has quite a few hotbeds of Norsk tradition. And I’ve been to Norway a few times. While I am naturally reluctant to contradict Princess Sparkleburst, I’m pretty sure that Norwegians are actually “known for”:

    1. Lutefisk. (Don’t ask, or ever approach it)
    2. Nisser — as symbolized by the little troll dolls
    3. A slightly odd sense of humor, which pisses off Swedes, although Danes seem to be okay with it.
    4. A strong social welfare system (like all Scandinavians)

Oh, and extremely anal-retentive, over-controlling, corporate-unfriendly, expensive, profit-reducing regulations about drilling for oil in the North Sea.

Not dikes, though. Fjords, for sure. Lotsa fjords. Some dykes, I suppose. But the enormous engineering projects that reclaim ocean bottom to become dry land? Nope. Norwegians have plenty of dry land already. Much of it is bloody cold half the year, but that would also be true of reclaimed land.

I’ll stop now, almost. I just want to scream at somebody. This pathetic excuse for a human being has been informed that the Norwegians have a very successful North Sea oil industry, and that the Dutch have vast engineering expertise in dikes and blockades and stuff.

And she cannot keep those facts separate in her mind for the duration of a feckin softball interview.

And 20% or so of my fellow Americans (that’s one of every five people I pass on the street) think she could be President. Normally, I resent being old, but sometimes I think it’ll be okay to check out before the loonies hit the fan.

I am glad to see SP is up to her usual idiotic blathering only because it is captured for posterity on video and will be used against her if she decides to run for Pres. Which, I hate to admit, does seem more likely with this Thatcher Meeting or whatever that is/was (I’m still a little out of it. I trust you Mudflatters will get me back up to speed!)

  25. Baker's Dozen says:

Palin’s having such a fit about not getting a phone call from the WH that she’s ripe for the picking. I think she should get one. Where are the Canadian radio personalities when you need them.

And, AKM. Ms. Palin never uses the word “dealing” in this interview. Now you have caused her to be misunderstood. The word is “dillin’. She’s picklin’. They go right next to the mashed potatoes.

“what I did in dillin’ with the oil companies”
See? She’s picklin’ the oil companies. Just sayin’.

  26. Pinwheel says:

Perhaps some of this will continue tomorrow, but Rachel Maddow had a wonderful “fake Oval Office Speech In Response to the BP Oil Gusher” on her show this evening. What a wonderful world it would be. Thanx Mudflats for the great work you do.

  27. Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

Me thinks she is distracted by her eldest daughter…since she isn’t firing on all of her cylinders to begin with – pissing her off is always a good way to put her in meltdown. The smell of burning plastic? That’s Barbie flesh on fire, and let’s not put it out, OK?

    • Wolf Pack says:

She lost her Tea Baggin credentials….. looking for the Europeans to solve American problems. Sounds like, in Sarah’s real America, that Yankee can-do spirit is a-mouldering in the grave. S’error, you’re no heir to Ronnie Raygun.

“To be or not to be – that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
      And by opposing, end them.”
      – Hamlet

  28. ValleyIndependent says:

I’m glad he asked the question. But I’m afraid I agree with those here who don’t think her followers will ever notice that she never answered it. That she remains uneducated, incoherent, touts a fantasy version of her record, and lacks a grasp of facts, current events, and salient facts is not a deterrent to their unwavering loyalty. *Bangs head on desk.*

  29. North of the Range says:

Just for laughs– Apparently a Dutch reporter has tried to contact the Palin camp for clarification on, “They offered to help and yet no… they too with the proverbial can’t even get a phone call back. That is what the Norwegians are telling us and the Dutch are telling us.” The author wondered, “So Dutch are in contact with Sarah Palin for complaining about Obama’s response to the oil spill?”

    “De Nederlandse contacten van Palin”
    http://weblogs.nrc.nl/obama/

We have to rely on Google translation, but one key phrase approximates to: “An email to Palin’s spokesman today, how predictable, unanswered.”

Ah, they too with the proverbial can’t even get a phone call back.

Keith Olbermann would love that one. Shoot, so would BOR.

    • frsbdg says:

Was just about to go to bed, and then had a flash of insight: why was Palin so outraged about “not getting a phone call returned” by the White House? Because SHE CALLED THE WHITE HOUSE HERSELF, AND THEY DIDN”T TAKE HER CALL OR RETURN IT! But of course, she can’t admit that publicly, but I’d bet my bottom dollar that’s what happened.

      • Wolf Pack says:

Yup! It was only a couple days ago, that Sarah suggested Obama call her for consultation on dealing with Big Oil and the Gulf mess.

Although I suspect she would charge for it. Something like a 10% commission to SarahPac on all BP money paid for compensation of damages and penalty.

And/or if Obama had called her, she might claim he was stalking her.

America saw a purple cow last night.

It’s so transparent that Palin (and her handlers) thought that she was delivering the crucial counterpoint to the President’s first oval office speech last night. No doubt she and her advisers were twittering like a flock of bird-brains that “the look” should be austerely professional, regal, a veritable display of feminine (nod to the cleavage) gravitas.

Then she opened her mouth…..Hubris and ignorance dressed in regal purple, mooing and burping methane from all body orifices.

Yep. I’d rather see one than be one.

  31. Jo Ann says:

Boy, she has not changed one bit since she ran for VP….the interview w/O’Reilly made her look like an idiot…much as she did BEFORE McCain’s crew pulled her from talking w/the press.

I’ll bet she is not going to want to go back on Bill’s show again. Truly wonder how Fox will handle the situation as the plans they had for her w/Fox are not working out!

Yea, Bill! Thank you for exposing, what all of us in Alaska know, and that is she is not on expert on the oil industry. Loved how some of her statements were fact checked and found to be totally incorrect.

  32. Zyxomma says:

AKM, you’re amazing. I’ve transcribed loads of tapes (used to use a Dictaphone when I was a freelance legal secretary), but I think this would be beyond my patience, unless I was making loads of cash. Your service to the public is above and beyond the call of duty. Eternal gratitude.

    • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Zyxomma – I second that, such dedication is commendable. As I said above, this site is a benchmark on the map of keeping $palin at least 2000 miles from the white house.

  33. Xenon says:

    Dumb little twat.

  34. Laurie says:

“Dutch” ? “dikes”? This lady is truly insane. The interview is absolutely priceless.

She absolutely believes she is an expert. She knows a lot more than me but, she thinks her few years experience dealing with oil companies places her amongst real learned experts. She really seems to believe it!
    She is one crazy lady!

  35. Star says:

$aint $arah must be having a bad hair day….no tweets from the twitt??

  36. BritGal says:

What a joke! why this woman or her comments are even sought in modern day US politics is beyond me. She’d be laughed off the political stage in the UK, sad reflection on the state of US politics

  37. GoI3ig says:

It is painful to listen to her. Does the phase “dumber than a bag of hammers” come to mind?

  38. clark says:

george w. said he was the “CEO president”. i guess palin can’t imagine how unappealing that shopworn concept is to the public. a guy who rides to fame and glory with 400x the salary of the workers, whether or not the company is doing well… yeah, that’s a good role model and inspiration.

  39. Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

I wanted to make this general post to the thread to thank AKM for the labor and fortitude to wade through the morass of this “interview” and transcribe it with commentary. Not everyone can endure such a high flux of burning stupid.

I don’t mean to be critical but I think you are giving the False News system way too much credit here. The interviewer never really put the idiot on the spot, and the opening was more like an offering, first give us your spin on this issue and then let’s discuss it in terms of bashing the people who are really in the game.

This was not an interview, it was just more kabuki theater.

I know it is remarkable that a solid question was asked, that is just a diversion though. There was nothing like an answer to the question, and then they ran out of time, except to give the queen of lies time to mention another couple of talking points she had missed earlier.

Now all the wingers can claim the talking head was asked a serious question. The blatent fact that it was never answered can be passed over.

    The salient facts are these.

Deep water exploration and exploitation has become possible only in the past 8 years or so because the price of oil rose to a point where it was substantially profitable.

Oil is priced at $74 per bbl. today and in 1999 it was $10/bbl.

Energy policy was developed in total secrecy by the previous administration.

Deep water drilling was an ongoing process inherited from the previous administration.

It was abundantly obvious that the MMS had been corrupted by both the administration and the oil industry, yet no corrective measures of any consequence were undertaken. A few people lost their jobs and were replaced by others with the exact same agenda. Make government look incompetent.

So my question is where is the person who came forward warning that a catastrophe could occur in the GoM because the MMS was in the pocket of the industry and the industry was hell bent to increase their profits no matter what the risk?

    There was no such warning.

This blog is one of the few things that stands between Palin and some true form of power. It may well be the most important thing. Know that those of us who think about these things support you and will continue to. The giving over of leadership is a pledge on both sides. The leader pledges to act in the best interest of those s/he represents. The constituency agrees to support the leader once chosen for the benefit of all. In our current circumstances, those who lost the last election, have rengeged on their promise to accept the results of a plebicite. Their overall action may be only despicable but their intent is seditious.

    • seattlefan says:

Lol KN! I love your take on Billo’s interview. Excellent.

It was Kabuki Theater for the most part, but unlike other interviews on Faux Noise…..Bill let her ramble on when he could have “guided” her and framed her answers with leading questions like Hannity always does. He backed off on that last night and pretty much let her “hang herself”. He also asked her point blank what would she do….and she didn’t answer it. Kabuki Theater, perhaps but a tamer and much lighter version considering it was Fox News. Perhaps this a a baby step for Fox News, or perhaps Bill O will be unemployed soon. We will see. It will be interesting to see if she ever goes back on his show as a “fellow Fox News commentator”. 🙂

    • Pinwheel says:

Great reminders here. I particularly like that “high flux of burning stupidity”.

This evening I learned that MMS was created by James Watts, Sec of Agriculture, Nixon era, from Purdue University. Sec Watts is best known to me for the concept of Agribusiness which began the destruction of the family farm in America.

It has seemed relevant to learn a bit more about FERC, if Alaskan. Supposedly independent, haven’t yet found what is above them, Congress or Admin, or what department, but it does have “regulatory” oversight of interstate (across state [inter-national] pipelines). Currently has two members appointed by Obama, two appointed by Shrub. While writing I’m now curious about the AGIA-TransCanada/Exxon pipe or the “In State” gasline. There is also something called Alaska FERC. I need to do some more research.

There will be too much scrutiny (I believe in scrutiny). No matter what we do in Alaska, now more than ever, we need to make sure that we do it correctly.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

      • lilybart says:

Watts also famously said that we don’t need to worry about the environment because Jesus is coming back soon anyway.

        • I See Villages From My House says:

Sounds like Sarah Palin’s environmental policy.

What I can’t reconcile about her libertarian-inspired views and her [snark] breadth of business acumen is – how is mortgaging our childrens future with some arbitrary dollar figure compare to leveraging their future with environmental damage? Do we want our future thinkers to worry about correcting debt or helpless to reverse irreparable damage to Mother Earth?

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Pinwheel, nice pickup… Watts was one of the first designated hitters put up by the right wing to knock down those pesky environment laws. He was pretty whacko as the following post by lilybart points out clearly.

The way I always used that adage was… People who live in glass houses, shouldn’t.

    • bubbles says:

      yes. indeed it is.

Remember those Native Alaskans freezing in the winter. And Sarah did nothing except wait for Franklin Graham to arrive. Then she gave them some home made cookies.

    What would Sarah do?

    She can bring the cookies!

    • tallimat says:

      Quyana!
      Spot on!

$carah talks of POTUS and 8 weeks in this commentary? Huh? Cause while she was pretending to be Govenor, rural Alaskans were in disaster mode for 3+ months before she acknowledged there was a disaster. Then she showed up with a batch of cookies and pieces of scripture.

      Just sayin’

      • I See Villages From My House says:

I think her caging off of Samaritan’s Purse for that Russian Mission and Marshall village trip was a photo op for her to use in selling a reality show of Alaska to the likes of TLC – Look, the natives came out en force, they love me, they really love me. Plus my husband’s native, my children are native, we live [through discrimination in Alaska every day, and we need to work on it. . .huh?]

        • Dagian says:

Hey, which brings a question (back) to my mind.

Somewhere along the line when she was playing her “real” American act, she mentioned sitting at a table with her husband, worrying about paying for their health insurance.

Is it true that he already has health insurance due to his heritage? What about the kids?

I’m not suggesting that it’s GOOD health insurance coverage, but is it better than nothing?

In other words, her lips were moving but she WASN’T lying? In which case, it’s the end of the world, right?

          • Bretta says:

Yes it is true Todd and Sarah Palin and their children have had socialized medicine for many many years, because Todd is part Native Alaskan.

That woman is an idiot, also too.

    • ks sunflower says:

Goodness, MB is supposed to be a licensed attorney. You’d think she’d understand how an escrow fund works and what “third party administrator” means and how the three-person panel will mediate disputed claims. No wonder Palin likes to pal around with her. They are both idiots.

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Beg to differ ks sunflower, they are both accomplished liars.

        • nswfm says:

Yeah, I’ve decided I’m going to publicize that she’s PolitiFact’s 2009 Liar of the Year every time I refer to her until she wins the 2011, 2012 (…and so on and so on) Liar of the Year. Kind of like the Celtics or the Lakers winning the NBA Championships (since she so loved Coach Wooden or was it Wooden Leg), but for the lying fraud she is.

    • beth says:

“Michelle B has declared that Obama’s escrow fund from BP is ‘redistriubtion of wealth’ and just another example or money going to the government.” Dang, that’s funny!

Thanks for sharing that, Marnie — in the Pantheon of Thickheaded Lunatical Absurdities, that declaration is a jackpot-hitting, bell-ringing, firework-sparkling KEEPER! beth.

  43. seattlefan says:

Just read the transcript…oy…it’s even better in the written word. She was all over the map on everything, she contradicted herself at least twice and she obviously didn’t have a clue that Bill was going to push her buttons. I never thought I would say this, Bill did his best at pwning her without doing it blatantly.

Also, I think a contest is in order for diagramming that third sentence. Personally, I don’t think it can be done but I would love to see someone try. It would be quite comical!

    • Marnie says:

I think Sarah should do it. It’s her sentence. She is a high school and college graduate. She should be able to diagram her own sentence.

Talk about a teaching moment, or hour, or days.

      Supplies,
Pencils, ruler, reeeealy big sheet of lined paper, reeeeally reeeealy big erasers, jumbo sized bottle of tranqualizers, padded room with sound proofing. Sturdy non breakable table and chair. Rabies shot and lipstick.

    • HistoryGoddess says:

I posted this earlier, but here is a link to a lady who diagrammed a Palin sentence and lived to write about it.

Wow! Thanks for the link. LMAO!

      • Bretta says:

I asked my Sister-the-English-Major/Teacher to diagram yesterday’s sentance but she wouldn’t touch it.

  44. Jen says:

    Like half-former governor.

  45. I See Villages From My House says:

I continue to bow down, we do but don’t deserve your astute observation and putting our incredulity into words.

Can I just touch upon her 8 weeks comment. . .(thanks for yours) but remember her awwww shucks gosh darn response to O’Biden in the one VP “debate” where she took it directly to the American people that she’d only ‘been at this for what, eight weeks?” and what did the American people and political establishment and MSM expect from her? Competency? Gosh guys, can’t’ya just trust ol Maverick McCain and me and just give me a pass and give me the keys to drive this country when John expires?

She recognized Katrina?. . .holy boy, let’s talk about the six weeks it took for “Governor” Palin to take the pajama clad blogging society’s lead and actually do something about her citizens and communities in distress because of antiquated energy (infrastructure) use and need. And she didn’t hitchhike on Franklin Graham’s lear jet (her first 151 proof taste of first class travel) as the State’s CEO, she came as a Christian woman with a servant’s heart, and cookies! She didn’t (and doesn’t) think it is the Governments responsibility to address crisis – she thinks friends, neighbors and church are good, sound social policy.

So what would a Governor Palin do with the Exxon Valdez under her watch? What would a President Palin do with a BP gusher under her nose? She’d let Market Enterprise do what they are supposed to do with their arsenal of expertise, engineers and technology, reporting to her with their ‘perception.’ She wouldn’t (and her lame answer to Bill O) and couldn’t handle this any differently than President Obama.

She holds the President (actually, rightly so, cringe!) to a higher standard, as usual, than of herself.

    • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

I am sorry but I have to disagree, she can’t possibly hold the president to a higher standard than herself because she is incapable of comprehending the scope of this disaster. Therefore her standard is not even on the same scale. So what gives her the right to question the president to a national audience? Why should he be held to any higher standard than that of taking logical decisions from the best available information?

I also have to disagree that she would not handle this any differently, or could not. She would be calling it an act of god that no one could have anticipated. IOW she would lie.

  46. Mac says:

another note on how the bloom is off the rose: Faux News is acknowledging that she is a former governor…

  47. beth says:

After hanging around $P for so long, now, I know Hollandialand’s people, the Hollandians, use dikes to protect that country’s tulips, and that its neighbor’s people, the Dutcherlandians**, use dikes to protect their country’s windmills. I’m still not sure, though, about the dikes of the other neighbor to those countries, Norwaygia — what are *those* dikes used for by the Norwegians? Does anyone here know… or maybe $P will call me and let me know?

And, dammit, somehow I’ve gotten the song, “Goodnight, Irene”, stuck in my head, this evening…but instead of the “Goodnight, Irene” lyrics, my mind is singing to my inner ear:
    Nor-wee-gian, Di-iii-iks;
    Nor-wee-gian, Dikes:
    Dikes, Norweej’,
    Dikes, Norweej’,
    Nor-wee-j’n, Dikes.

{Yelling and shaking my fist at the heavens ala Colbert…} Damn you and your Norwegian dikes, $P! beth.

**Little known fact: The Dutcherlandians weren’t always known as the Dutcherlandians. They used to be simply known as the Landians. They were so taken by the down-homeiness and common sense approach of President Ronald Reagan, though, and his love of the Troops, too, that they all decided to honor him by adopting his nickname into their national identity. That is why they are now called Dutcherlandians – it’s to honor the greatness of the dear friend of $P: “Dutch” Reagan. [From: “The Book of Proverbial Sarah: Self-made Facts To Reflect Well Upon Self and to Fit Any Audience and Situation also, too”. Page 1262.]

Once again, AKM, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening to and transcribing Scarah’s drivel! I absolutely cannot tolerate listening to her, so I don’t, but I appreciate being able to come here to find out what the whackjob has said this time.

  50. anadventurer says:

Did anyone else notice how far backwards her finger bent when she was pointing at the camera? I can only do that if I really try, I would equate that to a move you do when you are really PO’ed.

    • Pinwheel says:

I noticed that and wondered. Maybe it’s from picking fish from her setnet, or it’s a side effect of the texting society. Maybe she writes on the perpendicular now, instead of horizontal across the palm.

  51. teutonic13 says:

    I watched the extended clip:

The front end- Bill asks Palin what beef she wants to share- which is hilarious because the implication was that these days that is all we expect from her.

The back end, is a cautionary note from Palin the “we have to be careful not to “demonize big oil companies” so that they don’t collapse.

She was all over the map in this interview, and she was either on some sort of amphetamine, or she is incredibly manic and filled with rage.

Bill let her off the hook far more often than he does others- she was very lucky that he didn’t get specific and call her out on her non-answers.

I love watching her insanity. I look forward to her finally losing it in the national spotlight.

I do. Normally I am sympathetic to lost causes- but her vindictiveness has erased that in me.

  52. Jen says:

Bill, I love your post! You are crackin’ me up!

  53. seattlefan says:

Many great comments here. Thanks AKM for taking this on and inserting your humor and facts. I was having conniption fits last night when I saw this. Love the “giant bumpit death stare” and “O’Reilly channeling Mudflats” comments. Cracked me up.

The woman is an absolute idiot!

  54. B in Co says:

Sue Lowden from Nevada had her senate prospects crushed by chickens. May Palin’s political prospects be crushed by Danish dikes! There is a God.

  55. vyccan says:

On my way home from the dentist this evening I heard that Prez O’s meeting with BP officials went overtime AND that he has negotiated (?) some good concessions from them – no big BP stockholder payments this year and 20 billion set aside with an impartial agent for making restitution to those most immediately connected. I just got in and did a quick scan of the above responses but did not notice any reference to this. Assuming this is true, isn’t this a MUCH BETTER accomplishment /reaction than his emoting all over the media to show how upset he is with BP? Frankly I am much more impressed with this step in the right direction than I would have been with him ‘crying’ before the media.

    • B in Co says:

It is true Vyccan, those criticizing him are now praising him (except of course the Repubs like Michelle Bachman.)

      • vyccan says:

He continues to govern with an awareness of the ‘small people’, doesn’t he? I so love his approach to governing! With this step seeming to reveal that he does plan to seriously hold BP accountable, I can confess that I was a little bit disappointed with his little swearing episode re ‘kicking …. ‘. {Of course, I wouldn’t have said this earlier when I had no positive rebuttal, because it bugs me** when he is unfairly criticized.) I want my global president to govern with style, class, and intelligence and I really don’t want him to succumb to gutter fighting – at leasts not with foul tactics and language.

** My gut level reaction to him, and to criticism of him, really surprises me – constantly. There are times when I see this uncontrollable reaction of mine as very similar to that of Palin’s supporters. Except, of course, that I see their reaction as ridiculous because she is sooo clueless, while mine is acceptable [a-hem!]because he is sincere, caring AND smart! : )

        • Marnie says:

In his defense Laurer had just insulted him by saying “This is not a time for talking. It is a time for action.” So I imagine Obama was a bit peeked.

Of course Laurer has a many positive suggestions as Sarah.

          • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

I can’t really pass this up. I noticed today that there was a lot of critical commentary around that the speech last night was somehow not good enough.

Too much of this commentary came from those people who supported and should still support Obama. This makes me question his critics not him. Sure he is not perfect and is bound to make mistakes, but the point is he will admit it when he does and change course, he already has more than once. The people who purport to support him and yet level scathing criticisms at him because they have a ‘better’ idea are the people I mistrust. I don’t agree with everything he does, but he is the guy who has to make the decisions. He is also confronted by a solid wall of obstinate and totally irrational opposition on the right. None of them give a damn whether the country is destroyed or not, they have theirs, they will just move to Costa Rica or Bermuda if everything goes south. Their sole objective is to make him fail. If that means putting 10 million people out of work, no big deal. Let them fend for themselves just like I did when I made my first $100 million.

          • nswfm says:

I’d challenge anyone complaining to run for the Presidency and win. See how difficult it is. It’s a lot easier to sit on the sidelines and complain.

What I hope comes out of this is a comprehensive approach to conserving, generating power and putting Americans to work to get that done. We need to stop wringing our hands and start acting with our own creative thinking abilities. Why are we waiting for someone else to tell us? Go to the hardware store, talk with them and learn what caulk to use, where to use it, how to weather strip, etc. Drive at a minimum, share rides, etc. Use high MPG cars.

Use windows wisely instead of AC. Shade your south and west facing window, etc.
We know this stuff already or can look it up easily. We need to act. NOW. We don’t need our mom or dad to tell us at this point.

          • strangelet says:

This is really a belated reply to Krubozumo Nyankoye, at the evident limit of reply indentation.

I read the transcript of the President’s Tuesday speech, and I believe, and have commented elsewhere, that it was not a very good effort. Now, this does not mean that I think President Obama is a failure (I don’t), or that his efforts specifically with respect to the Gulf Gusher have been inadequate (in hindsight, I might suggest some areas where he could have been more impactful, but that’s hindsight for you).

What it means is I thought it was an ineffective speech, from a man who I would have expected to do better, based on history. I spent a good part of my work life in corporate middle management, and I recognize bland when I see it (God knows, I gave enough stay-calm presentations myself).

I’m not suggesting that the President should have presented a detailed plan for the mitigation of the blowout and the probably-decade-long partial restoration of the Gulf. Nobody knows those answers yet, and the presentation would be a hundred hours long if they did. But I felt that much of the speech was generic, and in some cases CYA. There were exceptions, like the determination to get an escrow fund (and whizbang, there’s a start the next day), but most of it was, as I read it, vague.

I thought that he could have usefully referenced some of the hot-button issues that have surfaced in media coverage.

“This is the President of the United States. I am reaffirming the previous directives of Admiral Allen that journalists are to be allowed access to sites and recovery workers unless there are specific safety reasons. Anyone violating this policy is subject to investigation by the FBI.”

“I have created an oversight agency to review damage claims and ensure that valid claims are paid promptly enough that they will allow the claimants to meet their financial obligations.” This one is tricky to say, ’cause a lot of the initial claims will be coming in on napkins, but it’s still important. As it happens, this may have been addressed today, but it wasn’t emphasized in Tuesday’s speech.

I also think he should have fired Salazar, but that’s just an opinion.

Summing up, I don’t think Obama is a bad President, or that he has reacted to this disaster any worse than anybody else (including me) would have. But I do think the speech was a flop. So the question is, am I supposed to dummy up about that belief in order to support the President? Bear in mind that I am several degrees to the left of President Obama. He is not my ideal President, although he was by far the best alternative on offer in 2008. And still. So I want to support him. In criticizing the Tuesday speech, my purpose is not to tear down the Administration, but to suggest that they have committed a rhetorical own-goal, and that they should stop doing that.

            Anyhow. G’nite.

          • Dagian says:

I think that a lot of people voted for him with such high expectations of him that they are bound to be disappointed.

            He’s smart–but he’s not omniscient.

            He’s capable–but he’s not omnipotent.

He’s doing a good job under tremendously difficult circumstances–but he’s not able to effect instantaneous betterment of the nation.

I voted for him, because he won the ticket and because I don’t like incompetent pilots (how many planes did he destroy?) who define themselves as mavericks (look up the definition!) and who abandon their wife because she may have survived an accident, but didn’t stay young and pretty enough for him. Plus not liking his politics. Plus choosing someone dumber than Dan Quayle as his running mate.

Hell, I voted for Connie Morella because she was good at her job and managed to get the TSP to loosen the rules on contributions. There was a reason the woman (a moderate Republican) kept winning in my overwhelmingly Democratic district. It’s not that I’m a knee-jerk anti-Republican. But they just keep nominating people who are not reflective at all. They spout slogans though.

          • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Thanks for all the replies everybody.

            Strangelet,

While I have a fair amount of sympathy for what you expressed and even agree in a lot of ways that the speech was nothing special and perhaps even not very good by his usual standards, (I can’t watch it, I can only read the transcript and that with difficulty), I have to ask, what should we have expected. It seems to me that he was just laying the ground work for what is ahead. He mentioned what he wanted to do about the escrow account but he was cautious because he didn’t have a legal leg to stand on. Next day, bingo, he manages to pull it off. But the reality still is that this is far from over, there is no reason to run up the mission accomplished banner. Maybe mission undertaken. I think he was also trying to express something that in this climate is extremely hard to express yet needs to be clear to everyone. He can’t fix this thing. To just come out and say so would be to invite the republican jackels to start ripping out chunks of flesh. But the real point is, nobody can “fix” this thing. Until the well is killed the mess will just keep getting bigger. He was also on the spot trying to make the very simple and very obvious point that we are going to have to seriously rethink and change the way we do business or more things like this and worse than this are going to happen. He was jumped by the rightwing before he even said that for everything from cap and tax to he’s gonna take away our guns.
I kind of get the impression from reading the speech that what he was trying to do overall was actually lower people’s expectations because that is what is needed, this is not going to be handled any time soon. One of the things he has done is put a moratorium on current drilling (not production – drilling) because it is so obvious that the last thing we need is to have another similar disaster now. He was immediately attacked by the right wing for killing 5000 odd oil industry jobs and driving the oil companies to go explore elsewhere. Yeah I’d like to see them come to Brasil. And by the way, in the escrow package there just happens to be $100 million to cover those same oil workers while the moratorium is in effect.

So we’re not inspiried, we just had a short tutorial on what some really intractably difficult problems are like, and no he didn’t exactly lay out a flow chart for how to go forward from here. But I have to say, in certain respects this speech made me think about this complex problem (not just the spill, that nice buzz phrase “energy independence”) more than I would have if he had taken a different tack. So I am sticking with my original claims, I can’t understand why the people who should be supporting him, were so reactionary.

I am not saying you in particular were reactionary. But if I may be excused for answering your question with an adage, there are times I think when it is approprite if you have nothing good to say, to say nothing at all. There are also other times when to not speak out, is beyond conscience.

            nswfm

Frankly, I can’t understand why anyone would want the job.

What you have to say about the policy landscape is certainly pertinent and we should all be thinking about it, we can all take some action on our own in the short term and pat ourselves of the back when it becomes part of some national initiative if and when that ever happens. But the obstacles are enormous and it is entirely possible that the magic goal of “energy independence” is just that, magic.

In my opinion, human civilization is a jot or two beyond the point where we need to try to manage and keep within reasonable tolerances the whole web of things we do across the world. Right now we are just plunging into the future willy nilly spending inordinate amounts of time and resource bickering, blathering and fighting tooth and nail over non sequiturs.

The US is not the only country in the world. And never will be. But a single photograph shows that there is only one world. So unless we find a way to cooperate with each other our hubris will overcome us.

Dagian – You vote for whomever you think is the best choice. In the last election it was no contest. I can’t see it being any different in the next but then the will of the people is a difuse sort of thing that can be centrifuged by adamant partisanship.

Bubbles – you are right, too many people, perhaps even most people depend on what someone else thinks instead of their own faculties. Instead of trying to come to a conclusion of their own, they try to sound out what the most popular conclusion on the part of others is, and then go with that whether they agree or not simply because they do not want to have to defend their point of view. Most people are not confrontational.

That is one of the reasons why I maintained that harsh criticism of Obama’s speech by people who supposedly support him was not only uncalled for but unwise, because it shifts that perception of what is popular in the wrong direction.

I have been thinking about it and I still cannot understand why people reacted so badly who should know better than to give any kind of reinforcement to the right wing noise machine.

            —-

To add a bit of perspective, today a notably involved republican apologized to BP for the “shakedown” they knuckled under to. This bit of rhetoric is not exactly getting a pass but neither is it “news”, after all shouting “you lie” at the President of the United States during what is the equivalent of the State of the Union address is just business as usual.

To sum up, it is just infuriating to have the consequences of this huge blunder by BP come to bear upon the efficacy of this administration.

            Now I will shut up.

Yes, and thank you for recapping this for us. When I am really upset, I want someone who is calm and reassuring to minister to me, a shoulder I can lean on, quiet and steadfast. That is our President. I feel for him as I know he is upset and that he probably hugs Michelle and his girls at night and maybe shows some of the emotion he has to hold back in order to address the issues matter-of-factly during the day.

      • Polly says:

I find myself leaning on President Obama. I can sleep at night knowing he is at the helm.

We must remind people that he can’t please everyone, all the time, everyday. I don’t like it when liberals start flinging mud at him when he disappoints them. The Republicans stood behind George, and he was stupid all the time. We need to have solidarity. We aren’t privy to the things he knows and can’t tell us. We elected him because we know he is smart, and sincere. He wants to talk to us like grown-ups. He doesn’t want to give us false hopes and false cheer.

        Let’s watch his back.

Methinks Bill is getting “the one thing” about Sarah. The Bill O’Reilly “Do YOU know how to stop it” question kind of made the world stop for a few seconds, for Sarah, I think. She indeed had that giant bumpit death stare, it was glaring.

She doesn’t have any more solutions than anyone here, she has absolutely no power to call on people to do anything. She has no engineering experience, no advisors; all she has is google, just like the average Joe. She couldn’t answer specifics to prove how her State of Alaska Energy experience could bring anything to the table. She can’t do one thing for this crisis on Fox. But, she could have contributed if she had stayed on as governor. In fact, Governor Sean Parnell should be the one to contribute feedback.

    • johnny says:

I was wondering that too. I wonder if the other oil governors go around saying that their state produces 20% of the nation’s energy.

      • Bretta says:

Alaska produces less than five percent – at least that is what it was about 25 years ago.

      • nswfm says:

I think I read somewhere or heard on NPR that all the oil companies copied the same plan. Same “typos” and all. Walruses in the Gulf.

It reminds me of a consulting firm that left something completely ridiculous in the text and some agency caught it. • beth says:

“The part that pisses me off is who the hell was approving these “dry labbed” safety plans?”

You ask a very sane and logical question, there, nswfm.

I bet you’d be surprised to learn the rig wasn’t really an oil-drilling rig at all — it was really a ship, and that, being registered in the Marshall Islands and flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, it was really a ship from/of the Marshall Islands…not an American (or British) ship, at all. And I bet you’d be completely floored to learn that officials from/in the Marshall Islands were in charge of inspecting it and making sure it was all safe and complying with regulations, and all…

“WTholyF are you talking about, beth!?!?!?” you gasp in disbelief?

Ahhh, my sweet, I thought that might be your reaction; it’s totally understandable — read what’s below…and we’ll weep together. beth.
          ——-

BP oil rig registration raised in Congress over safety concerns
          Andrew Clark in New York
          guardian.co.uk,
          Sunday 30 May 2010 19.56 BST

Political ripples from the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster have travelled as far as the north Pacific, where authorities of the remote Marshall Islands have been found to be the ones technically responsible for scrutinising safety standards on the doomed BP rig.

The rig, which was owned by Transocean, but under lease to BP when it exploded and sank on 20 April, is regarded as an ocean-going vessel in legal terms.

In common with 34 other Transocean oil rigs, Deepwater Horizon was registered under the flag of convenience of the Marshall Islands, a country of barely 65,000 people halfway between Hawaii and Papau New Guinea. That status means the Marshall Islands’ shipping registry was responsible for ensuring compliance with quality standards for construction, equipment and operation on the rig.

The island nation is also obliged to investigate any accidents that occur on its maritime vessels, including the loss of the Deepwater Horizon, which caused the biggest oil spill in US history. […]

Jim Oberstar, a Democratic congressman from Minnesota, suggested last week that the move was to scrimp on safety inspections: “Coastguard inspection of a US-flagged mobile offshore drilling unit takes two to three weeks, but the safety examination of a foreign flag offshore drilling unit, such as Deepwater Horizon, takes four to eight hours.”

During a hearing on Capitol Hill, Judy Chu, a Democratic member of Congress, from California, asked why Transocean had its headquarters in Switzerland, where it had a dozen or so employees, and why it registered its rigs in the Pacific: She said it raised the question of “whether such companies seek to avoid safety regulations by flagging the vessel outside the US”.

The Marshall Islands, in common with a handful of other small nations, including Panama, Liberia and the Bahamas, actively markets its “flag” as a convenient registration. In January, 2,012 vessels weighing a total of 52m tonnes operated under its flag.

The International Transport Workers’ Federation claims such flags are simply a way of avoiding taxes, paying cheap registration fees and enabling ship owners to employ cheap labour.

Transocean admitted there was a “financial tax benefit” in registering its rigs in the Marshall Islands. But the company’s co-general counsel, Rachel Clingman, said there were practical issues, too. The lawyer said registering in the US would mean rigs being captained by a US citizen and needing to be physically inspected by the US coastguard each year. “When the rig is travelling around the world and is sometimes in the middle east or far east, that becomes a logistical issue.” […]

Yes, Stephen Colbert suggested on his 6/15 show that the Marshal Islands were giving us payback for testing nuclear weapons there.

Why we let companies get away with that greedy, lazy kind of thing, I’ll never know. We never seem to learn, though.

          • Bretta says:

If I remember correctly the Exxon-Valdez sailed under a Liberian flag.

  65. beth says:

ATTENTION MUDFLATTERS – your *undivided* attention, please…

I realize none of you are easily fooled, but I believe you’ve all fallen hook, line, and sinker for the grand leg-pull of the above AKM posting of transcript and video.

Both the transcript and video are *obviously* fakes and forgeries — I don’t know what left-wing, liberal, commie, socialist, America-hating, devil-loving, Ayers-bankrolled, shenanigans AKM is up to with the above post, but she is up to something — and it is an ugly, underhanded, and completely *false* something! It’s the same thing all pajama-clad, parent’s-basement-living Alaska bloggers are hell bent on doing…makin’ stuff up about Governor Palin!

I know we’ve all trusted AKM to give us the straight skinny, and we’ve all put our faith and trust in that being a constant in each of her articles. She’s lulled us into a sense of security by pretending to be on the up-and-up with us. And now her true colors have finally begun to show — she is a plant! She is passing an *obviously* fake video and transcript off to us and is hoping we’ll just accept it as factual! She has been duping us all along… this article is PROOF of that duping.

I mean, what MORE proof could there *possibly* be of the transcript and video being a fake and a forgery than AKM (foolishly and sloppily!) *failing* to include the two phrases, the five words, that are always, always, ALWAYS included in *any* of Governor Palin’s dialogues aimed at the citizens of this nation: “The troops” and “Common sense solution(s)”.

AKM blew it. She tried to pass of the transcript and video as being an *actual* transcript and video of Governor Palin, but she’s not as clever as she thinks — she didn’t even remember to put in those two crucial phrases that are the identifying marks used by the savvy and aware to separate the “rill” from the “makin’ things up” about the Governor. Governor Palin would *never* be caught *not* using those phrases; Governor Palin has a gutteral instinct about what is important to rill Americans and both “The Troops” and “Common sense solution(s)” are the essentials and proverbials of that. Governor Palin would *never!* be caught out in public *without* vocalizing those two rill things.

So, I say to you, AKM, on behalf of all Mudflatters, worldwide: We’re on to you, now, AKM! You thought you could fool us, AKM, but we’re on to you. beth.
    😉

    {PS – when typing “Governor” in relation to $P, does anyone else end up typing “Governot”? I kept hitting the “t” key. Every time! Hmmmmmmm…a Freudian slip on my part? b.}

    • maelewis says:

Beth, you really had me going until I got to Palin’s gutteral instinct. Actually, you are right. The whole thing is a fake. Some of those commie pinkos who have infiltrated Alaska under the guise of a Tea Bag Group actually kidnapped the Real Sarah Palin, and they substituted a schooled actress whose sole purpose in appearing with Billo was to make the real Sarah look bad. It’s a good thing that you’ve unmasked the Bill Ayers’ funded culprits. Oh, and I think that Real Sarah always manages to work something in about Trig, too, also.

  66. Thanks for transcribing that, AKM. I could only listen to the first part where she kept calling the president a CEO. It was all I could take. Guess I should have stuck with it.

When Bill O starts asking good questions, we know Sarah’s days are numbered.

LOL, and I can’t believe she actually got to the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dike. That’s what went through my mind when I was reading the part where Obama should have stopped the leak all on his own, or that was the implication. And then she pretty much said it. Wow.

Best of all is that dumfounded look when he finally put her on the spot. Priceless. Bet we see that picture a lot.

  67. johnny says:

What was she referring to at the beginning of the segment, that she has a beef with BOR

” I kinda have a big beef with you too though Bill if you don’t acknowledge that President Obama is wrong on his call for a need for energy policy”

Was there an interview right before this one=?

    • Marnie says:

BillO didn’t ask the question she wanted to answer and she called him on it. She then tryed to answer the question she wanted to answer and blend in the answer to the question he actually asked and work in dairy barn furniture just for the fun of it.
I’d say she did it masterfully. Barn yard word salad with Gulf Oil dressing and energy policy crutons.

Of course the questions he ask related to topic of the interview, as announced, but hey, for Sarah, format is a minor issue.

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Marnie, according to Andrew Halcro, $P may have reason to be thinking about dairy barns.

I wondered about that too. She was raving mad when the interview started. He certainly set her off by something he said. Maybe he didn’t fawn over her sufficiently.

  70. Simple Mind says:

If there is a God in heaven, the strategists at the Republican Party were all watching this. If this is how she does in the most sympathetic, soft interview on Fox News for which she was undoubtedly prepared with the questions in advance, can you imagine her on “Meet the Press” or at a Presidential press conference? “President Palin, your recent appointment, Treasury Secretary Paul, just announced he is closing the National Mint and is converting the US to a barter economy. In response, China has called all of its loans to the US due immediately. How will you respond to this?”

    • I don’t think she had the follow up questions in advance, which is why she has that blank and frustrated look on her face when he actually asked a real question.

And no, I can’t imagine her on Meet the Press. They’d eat her alive.

It occured to me awhile back that O’really! was initally petrified of being eclipsed by Sarah’s aura of popularity and fame, and now finds great fun and satisfaction in setting her up for the bufoon she usually is, all the while taking advantage of the drawing power she may have. Because he comes at her all polite and faux-respectful and (dare I say it) flirty, I’m sure she doesn’t see it, hasn’t a clue. Bill is not stupid, he knows exactly what questions SHOULD be asked, but will only do it with those he wants to marginalize.

    • Bretta says:

“…he comes at her all polite and faux-respectful and (dare I say it) flirty, I’m sure she doesn’t see it, hasn’t a clue.”
$P is so clueless he gets to play this game again. And again. It could get more and more enjoyable.

      • Pinwheel says:

I don’t think either of these two deserve the attention they continue to get. But it is valuable to know what the opposition is proposing.

  77. Rene says:

I wonder if Bill ever sits there and scratches his head? You know he has to excuse himself while he goes to the bathroom and cracks up. Fox loves her because she is ratings gold. I think they must believe in the old “saying”

“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Things that make you wonder…

  78. lynn says:

What is happening to O’Reilly? Sudden moments of rationality from him are scary..

    • AC says:

Lynn, it’s not so much that O’Reilly looks rational, it’s more that he appears more rational when on the same screen as the ‘garbage bear’ as I like to call her (as opposed to the mama grizzly).

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

I love that, nothing could hit the nail on the head more truly. This from someone who has dealt with both real mamma grizzlys and garbage bears. Your point is also well taken, it is only by contrast with the sin qua non of stupid that the talking head appears at all rational.

    • MonaLisa (inCT) says:

I’ve seen Billo on The Daily Show. He truly IS capable of being rational. (Or at least of hiding the his wingdacity when he wants to!)

I sense, deep down, he’s a lil’bit ashamed of himself. Not enough to give up the paycheck, of course. But if he were able to grill himself, the way Stephen Colbert does in his ‘Formidable Opponent’ segments, he’d rip himself to shreds!

  79. Jen says:

I too noted her three-stool analogy, it is from this site: http://www.commonwealthnorth.org/documents_cwnorth/AK%20ECONOMY%20BROCHURE-%20PART%201.pdf
It was an ad on the Anchorage Daily News website for months.
I mostly enjoyed the campaign clothes and the Ivana Trump bumpit.
She is a soap opera parody and it is really hard to believe she takes herself seriously. I would be so embarrassed to be so ill prepared. But, in her world that doesn’t seem to matter.

    • nswfm says:

The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?!?!?!? is one leg of the stool? With all the disdain $P had for the “Feds”! Would that be the other 49 states bailing out her sorry Wasilla?

  80. dee says:

First off, Jerry G… what a great comment. I want a bumper sticker as well, or maybe a tshirt!
Secondly, her analogies, metaphors, similies, etc are a HOOT! Really, 3 legged stools? kicking it old school? mamma grizzlies? pitbulls? regular hockey moms? Here’s one for ya. Gag me with a spoon.
Watching it without the sound (thanks AKM for the transcript), the woman just sets her mouth to stun and off she goes. Taken in or out of context, it makes no sense.
And that was the longest. sentence. ever!! Let’s see someone try and diagram that one!!!

  81. jo says:

Searching the Dutch news I found this it is dated May 28th, and help was sent at the request of U.S. authorities:

    http://dc.the-netherlands.org/News/Press_Releases/Dutch_to_Provide_Assistance_in_Clean_Up_of_Gulf_Oil_Spill

This is just the latest stupid right wing talking points it’s on all their sites. I learned a long time ago if a Conservative said it, it’s a lie.

Dikes do stop flooding and would have been of benefit during hurricane Katrina, but what it would have to with stopping an oil spill, I can’t find anything.

    • bubbles says:

i have a crush on the Dutch people. Amsterdam is my favorite city in Europe, so far, because i have great friends there. so when i go to Amsterdam they make me feel at home. i live in the Jordaan with my bedroom facing a canal. in the evening my friend and i sit in her small garden and watch to boats go by and drink wine, snack on smoked eel and tell lies.

  82. OMG says:

I guess the one and only paper that Palin neglected to read on Monday was the Washington Post:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/06/16/palin-oil-norway/

    From the Post article:

“In late May, the administration accepted Mexico’s offer of two skimmers and 13,779 feet of boom; a Dutch offer of three sets of Koseq sweeping arms, which attach to the sides of ships and gather oil; and eight skimming systems offered by Norway.”

    • G Katz says:

Yes, I think she’s confusing the whole returning the phone call thing with her expectation that THE President of THE United States of America was going to respond to her plea, “Heck, call me.” I guess she’s still sitting, watching, and waiting for the phone to ring.

  83. Terri from Nowhere says:

Oh, I guess she did actually call President Obama by his name and title at some point. I could only stand to listen to the first part of the clip before my brain began to melt. I so agree with Aussiegal77 – we need to stop BOTH gushers asap.

  84. Terri from Nowhere says:

Did anyone notice that she couldn’t even bring herself to say “President Obama?” Or maybe she just hadn’t written it down on her palm so she couldn’t be sure of getting it right???

  85. AKMuckraker says:

Just a quick update. I embedded the full-length interview. I thought I’d done that before, but discovered it was just a clip. Apologies. Now you can go back for the full dose…

    • Buffalogal says:

      noooOOOoooOOO !!!

    • Star says:

Ahh your tooo kind AKM…bless your little ♥….

    • BigPete says:

Hey! Transcribing a Palin interview, in all it’s pain-inducing glory, is definitely not “good form”. It’s a bit of a “below the belt” blow, to be honest. Not cool!

      Anybody watching could clearly (for the most part) get the gist;
      ~ Oil companies tell lies
~ The President should have heard the lies himself, in person
~ Big Government can’t do anything right (regulating the clean-up, plugging wells)
~ Obama isn’t one of us
~ What checking of pipelines by the MMS? Leave BP alone!

    • Gee…..thanks :

    • bubbles says:

oh noes. please AKM my nerves is bad. i started to twitch halfway through your transcription. my head hurts and my toes are spasming. i gotta go lay down in the dark.

    • LA Brian says:

Thanks for all the hard work on the transcript, AKM. We owe you a martini or two.

I usually only see news clips like this at the “cardio theatre” in the gym, and I wonder how SP’s statements read on closed-captioning. Reading and laughing at that might make the time on an elliptical fly by!

  86. Paula says:

And at about 6:15 BillO short of shakes his head, frowns they hangs it down shaking it in disbeleif at his dumber than life guest.

  87. OMG says:

It’ll be interesting to see her next FOX interview with O’Reilly; does she have the Limbaugh touch where O’Reilly will have to apologize to her or be extra nice? Or is O’Reilly more powerful than Palin?

  88. Paula says:

Watched it a 2nd time on mute. She starts with a big ‘foxy’ smile, but wow, by the end the bottom teeth are growling, sholders going up and down, finger waggin’ face twitched.

As for the CC clip, I noticed her hair was all a flat mess. They must have hired the hair girl AFTER this interview.

  89. Andree McLeod (R) says:

Palin lies about having “to set up a Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to make sure…blah blah blah”.

Her predecessor Governor Frank Murkowski had already set one up. It was called the Arctic Pipeline Technology Team to ensure the integrity of oil pipeline infrastructure… and was already in place before she even was elected.

    http://www.dec.state.ak.us/press_releases/2006/PR-%20Arctic%20Pipeline%20Technology%20Team.pdf

    • AKMuckraker says:

Duly noted and linked above. Thanks!

      • tallimat says:

And if I recall, the Palin Administration lobbied the legislature for $$$$ to run the PSIO. Palin said at the time, that this new office would be giving updates to Alaskans and the legislature. I’m not sure, but it might of been Gara or Samuels who had to offically request a update.

I might be nit picking here, but on Billo’s show Palin says she HAD to set up this office. Weird, cause, yes, as Ms. McLeod states, there was a venue already set up to do the same mission.

Maybe SP2 can respond to what PSIO has produced.
        Like in a debate question… oh wait…

        • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

tallimat – so far as I have been able to find out the primary assessment that the PSIO was supposed to do of the pipeline infrastructure has never been completed. The post from yesterday revealing the degree of negligence on the part of BP in terms of maintenance by whistleblowers is also telling in the sense that the PSIO has apparently accomplished nothing at all. I think the vernacular term for such political boodoggles is window dressing.

          • tallimat says:

            Yes!
However it would be interesting to pose the question to SP2.
Like where did the money go and why SP2?

I haven’t read all the comments, so I don’t know if anyone mentioned it…
But $carah said she spent 75% of her time on energy issues. I find that weird, cause she quit due to all the time spent on ethics complaints… least that what she claimed.

$carah was a waste of state salary funds.

      • jenjay says:

“…I’m pleased to have you on the program tonight is because there is not a governor in the United States who has more experience than you do dealing with the oil companies. ”

Because only one Alaska governor still lives in the US…. Wow, Bill. You tried, you really tried.

    • Nebraska Native says:

      Waving at Andree!!!

    • MinNJ says:

      Good information to have. Thanks.

    • Alaska Pi says:

Hers was entirely in -state and Murks’ included Outside agencies like the EPA…
Hate to say it but his made more sense…
But then I hate to say I didn’t think we could get a crummier gov than Murk… and poof, whatzername popped in!

    • teutonic13 says:

We respect you in West Texas Andree !!!

I admire your courage- truly admire it.

    • HistoryGoddess says:

Thank you so much for all you do. Your determination is an inspiration.

    • seattlefan says:

I love your tenacity and persistence Andree! Call her out!

  90. bwilder says:

It’s been pretty clear on several occasions that O’Reilly is not a big fan of the Half term quitter.
And of course it’s always fun to see her rattled by the press, especially when it’s a FOX employee. Made my day!!

  91. NY Dem says:

Can someone please tell me what language she was speaking ? I read a comment on another board that sums it up perfectly: “It’s like she was throwing darts at a dictionary” !

  92. Once again, I’ve underestimated her lack of contact with reality. Norwegian dikes? Stop the gusher? the CEO of our country? If someone needed a well of incompetent stupidity, I know where they could drill.

    • Dagian says:

Her brain is a shrinky dink.

I know where we can buy shrinky dink supplies and draw $P pictures on them. Just a thought.

    • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Nice succinct summary CO Native, unfortunately I think, even that would be a dry well.

    • prisonernumbersix says:

I fail to understand one thing. Given that Sarah Palin has unequivocally established herself as the “Moose Nugget in the Political Punchbowl,” why are so many people still drinking from that punchbowl?

  93. Star says:

    bwahahaha…what a tangled web we weave….Hey $arah how’s that dike workin for ya….”winky dink”

    • Buffalogal says:

ha! She did snarkily say, on more than one occasion, that maybe she needed a wife rather than a husband to help her take care of all the things on her plate.

      • tallimat says:

        Plate?

        Don’t you mean HOOF?

(no intended offense to aminals with hooves)

    • Marnie says:

That would be a fun cartoon. Sarah the spider spinning out one of her endless sentences, that is being diagramed simultaneously.

Of course Sarah would get all tangled up.

One of the things that made me crazy in English was trying to find your way back through the maze you just diagramed of a long clause or phrase to the point where a particular modifer belonged or to the point where the clause branched off into another clause and realizing how far away from the main sentence your had gotten and how when you were going to work you way back to it to finish the sbject, verb, direct object bit. Plus needing a new piece of paper cause you had just run off the bottom of the page.

      • HistoryGoddess says:

Ahh-h-h, remember the brave woman who attempted to diagram a Palin sentence, way back in 2008?
        http://www.slate.com/id/2201158

(I think there is a dwindling group of us that even remember diagramming sentences. Fond memories of the old Warriner’s Grammar book. Not.

        • Was that the one that was a small book compared to all the other texts? I actually liked grammar and diagramming sentences. It was like solving a puzzle. But I don’t think I’d know where to begin with Sarah’s word salad – you do have to have some sort of sentence with which to work.

  94. tweeter says:

Why is this woman a paid commentator? I’m Serious.Really.Not kidding.C’mon……..I’ve got a headache.

  95. Blue Eyes says:

I’ve always thought that the best interviews are watched without sound. Just watch the body language of the person being interviewed. Worry about what they say later, but watch their reactions to questions. I just wish BOR would have had more time to ask her questions. Maybe she would get so flustered and storm off because of the hard questions being asked of her that she really doesn’t know the answer to.

  96. SkagwayKid says:

SP isan oil shill for life, Babble queen, real quick on the ball not, she’s probably pissed the president didn’t invite her to fact finding commission. The problem with Alaska, is the hooks of the oil barons runs deep. All alaskans look forward to permanent fund divideds. Tax profits from the oil, is spread wide and far. If a good portion of this revenue is not directed to alternate energy sources we have only are selves to blame.

  97. schlock and flaws says:

The Whiskey Tango Foxtwat said, “We we we can’t afford though to… we can’t afford to demonize these energy producers to such an extent they’ll that they go under. ” Too bad BO’R didn’t have time to follow up with a mention of the fact Palin’s own tax policies on energy producers contributed to BP’s increased presence in the Gulf of Mexico. Remember this:

BP Alaska, which runs Prudhoe Bay, said earlier this year that it had delayed the development in the western region of the North Slope as a result of the tax. ConocoPhillips cited the same reason for scrapping a $300 million refinery project.

“What the tax has done is take away all the upside,” said Doug Suttles, president of BP Alaska. The U.K.-based oil company paid more than $500 million in taxes to Alaska last quarter — far more than it earned in profits from Alaskan oil, according to Suttles.

*Investment dollars are flowing instead to places that have a better return, like the massive deep-water projects offshore in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, where ConocoPhillips said the government take equals less than 50 percent of the barrel.*

  98. A Fan From Chicago says:

One sentence with 102 words in it? The entire Gettysburg Address was 246 words. I’ll give her credit for one thing – all that running has given her some serious lung capacity. How can you go on that long without taking a deep breath? Maybe she’s part fish.

    • Buffalogal says:

If she was paid a gobjillion dollars to speak in front of a group of Christian fish, you betcha she’d SAY she was part fish.

” I am one fish, two fish, red fish and blue fish
As you can see, I’m just like YOU fish !
I’m a blow fish, a foe fish and a mean “Hell No” fish
But one thing I ain’t is a Go With The Flow Fish !”

sincere apoloties to dear Dr. Seuss.

( I wish I had artistic abilities . I want to draw the Palin as Fish image that’s now stuck in my head!)

  99. Bordo says:

Mother of God, forgive me, but kudos to Bill O’Reilly for shredding the snowbilly grifter with a few pointed questions. She has learned NOTHING since her disastrous stint as veep candidate except how to milk the suckers for millions of dollars. Is she too lazy to actually sit down and study issues and learn a few things? Or is she so arrogant, so in love with herself, so messianic that she doesn’t think she needs to do any hard work ?

  100. curiouser says:

I was hoping you’d tackle this priceless word eruption. ☺

Rand Paul – another one having a major reality check recently:

  102. daisydem says:

Kallie in Texas, I do believe that Bill had to finally cut it off and go because he had to throw up.

  103. daisydem says:

Oh AKM, you do have a way with words and the turning of a phrase. Your supply checklist started me giggling and I was giggling all the way through the post. Wonderful treatment of last night’s fiasco! Tell me, can you diagram her sentences? Especially that really long one? I watched the replay of the video with sound off. The rapid speaking, breathing, the tightness of the mouth, are so telling. I too would like a bumper sticker about the Dutch and the Norwegians! Now to go back up and read all the comments. This is the absolute funniest thing I have ever seen.

    • HistoryGoddess says:

AKM- Everything daisydem said and more. This was SUCH a fun post, and the comments are great!!!!

  104. Kallie in Texas says:

Too funny! I wish Bill would have continued with his line of questioning, then we could have watched the dumb wicked witch of wasilla disintegrate.

  105. fishingmamma says:

Could this please be the beginning of the end of her lovefest with Fox news?

    • nswfm says:

Please, oh please, oh please, oh please!

      • frsbdg says:

By the time her Alaska “reality series” hits the air, she will have already jumped the shark. Way to go, Discovery Channel! How’s that quitty-faily thing workin’ for ya?

  106. aussiegal77 says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“O’Reilly: Make it quick.” OMG. Best. Response. To. Palin. Ever.

(Make it quick……because I am this close to punching the screen, no, really, this close, I can not believe my life has spiralled to THIS.)

Anyone sane reading the transcript will immediately notice that she can not say anything without contradicting herself.

“The President didn’t call for energy policy! We need it! He did call for it! But it wasn’t enough! We need….uh….stools! THREE stools! No….uh….stools with THREE legs!! And the Dutch!! With their dikes and calling on the phones! What about the Norwegians? Do they have phones??! Can they call Venezuela?? Cuz Saudi Arabia is too busy selling us oil to call the Dutch!! But we don’t have to buy it on our knees.

Obama is the CEO but I do it better! I know oil companies lie all the time, all day every day all the time. I met with them! I was the CEO of Alaska! What? Uh…..what would I do? What? Is this….um…..what? Stop the gusher! Are we calling it a gusher? What about cap and tax! We need to lower taxes! Then cap the gusher! Healthcare under an umbrella of job creation! Oh man, that Katie Couric, she has no self esteem and she has no clue about which umbrealla of job creation to use to plug the danged fence. I mean…..uh….the gusher. Is that what we’re calling it? Read my book! It’s called Stopping the Gusher with the Technologies! Or, America’s CEO! Me!”

    • Paula says:

Socialist Muslim Dikes… uhm, that are black?

    • fishingmamma says:

She got that three-legged stool thingy off the bank website. I think it’s Wells Fargo, they have an ad campaign here about Alaska’s economy.

      • nswfm says:

That three legged stool thingy has been around for ages for retirement planning: personal savings, pension and Social Security are the legs.

If you have a pension, if your personal savings haven’t been decimated by the deregulation and lack of oversight during the Bush years and the ensuing financial melt down…and his Administration’s attempt to hand over the keys to Social Security by giving them to the same a$$holes who screwed the world economy, then you might have a stool.

Most people are going to be sitting on their “assets” because they don’t have anything left after some slick CEOs and their top management have siphoned all the money out of the middle class and take it to some offshore account like the Enron people did.

        • HistoryGoddess says:

The past few years the Sustainability workshops/info have also had the three legged stool bit, along with a Venn Diagram. The three legs are Environment, Society and Economy, with true sustainability keeping a balance among all three parts. Since she was kinda sorta hitting around the environment and economy bits, that’s what I thought she was heading for.

I really only counted two legs of that stool of hers though. Maybe the other got lost in that salad bowl she calls policy.

But, fishingmamma is probably right. She got it off a bank ad.

    • Loreen W. says:

  107. twain12 says:

“that really just get in the way of the private sector’s progress and their ability to produce and to thrive and to prosper and instead our priorities in the national government have been screwed up.”

isn’t getting out of the way of the private sector what got us into this mess in the first place ?

    • VTJen says:

Twain12 – you are spot on. I thought the same thing when I read this, but to confused by the end of the sentence because I think she used a double negative, which would then support the private sector, and and oh, I give up.

    • LA Brian says:

I was wondering about that *little* contradiction myself. At this point I’m not too surprised that she appears to have no idea how dumb she sounds.

The other one that struck me as odd was the reference to national security and protecting the people being top priority. Either she thinks environmental disasters are now a security issue or doesn’t get that this sort of clean-up effort is just the sort of “periphery” item she’s complaining about funding?

  108. What a foolish, foolish woman. Dikes.

I thought she was afraid us us. 😀

I can’t imagine who fed her that line, or if she came up with it herself. Amazing. And since when is Venezuela her enemy? Mr. Sarah Palin won’t like it very much when Mystick Oil pulls its Venezuelan sponsorship over her comments, now will he?

    • Nebraska Native says:

Whoa Ripley— good catch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nanny boo boo stick your head in doo doo Scarah

    • Pinwheel says:

Not to forget that then Governor soon to Quit left rural Alaska without fuel and Venezuela provided resources. How does that compute, Sarah. All you could do was cookies and prayer.

  109. Lower 48er says:

Hey, Sarah, ya gotta chill out before all this high-level energy policy talk makes ya snap.
Dontch’ya think yer velvety lawn rilly needs a good mowing justa bout now?
Ya know, jus’ put on some shorts an’ a tight white t-shirt, strap Triggy into a backpack, and go work on yer tan and pecs while you tend to Alaska’s glorious scenic beauty and natural wonders out there in the middle of nowhere.

  110. MimiC says:

Best Palin interview ever! Can’t decide if I am more amused by the unreturned phone call proverb (a phone call in time saves nine), or the Norwegian dikes! Call in the Little Dutch Boy.

    • Marnie says:

The little Dutch Boy who will give her the proverbial f….r.

I seeing a John Stewart moment here.

  111. ocliberal says:

I rarely watch Palin – that is why I visit these blogs. 🙂 But I did watch last night and it was memorizing and just plain weird. I don’t know what was weirdest – how hateful she is, how ignorant she is and how stupid she is. Even BOR couldn’t hide his disgust.

But while listening in amazed horror at her pontificating on everything from the Dutch dikes (dykes?) to the “CEO” of the US being as high up as the CEO Of BP to pointing out that we need to stop the leak!!!! (DUH!!!!!!) I had an epiphany. She doesn’t scare me any more. She is a celebutard and nothing more. She will never, ever be able to run for any office that involves answering questions or outlining coherent policy because she – well she can’t…..

Let her keep talking and giving her non-‘solutions because she just comes off as a petulant ignorant spoiled brat. Her ego combined with her ignorance is such a deadly combo. If she had an ounce of intelligence she would at least try to develop a ‘gracious’ demeanor but she chooses to go with the ‘mean girl’ persona that looks – well just looks immature. Our president for all his faults, come off as an intelligent grownup trying to deal with tons of crap. Last night he just looked tired to me. I’m sure he knows a lot more than we know just how screwed things are in the Gulf and instead of offering lots of pie in the sky BS he just stated what he could, which is, everyone wants to fix this, we will hold people accountable, we will get through this and we must look for alternative energy sources and this pretty much proves it. I’ll take the compassionate, intelligent grownup – not the immature idiot with no answers just bile and ignorance to spew.

It is just ironic to me that this woman is being touted as Christianity’s answer to politics because this woman is the least compassionate, gracious, understanding, forgiving or caring person I have ever seen in my life.
She is a side-show PERIOD. If anyone tries to make her out to be anything more, they are in for some scary reality checks come Election Day. The Republicans may not have anyone better to throw out there right now and are using her as their lightening rod right now because, face it, she hogs lots of camera time, the reality is when push comes to shove, she will melt faster than the Elphaba did at the end of the Wizard of Oz.

    • aussiegal77 says:

At least Elphie had the strength of her convictions – Palin can be bought at any price.

Look for the evangelicals in this country to tout any race against the President as Us vs Them. God’s People vs the godless heathen. The Elect vs the pagans – with Palin as their standard bearer.

I am one Christian who will never ever vote for her, I don’t care if she can walk on water. Satan can perform miracles too!

      • ocliberal says:

Yeah, I feel sort of bad comparing her to Elphaba. I’m actually a big Elphaba fan having seen Wicked five times and having read the entire Gregory Macquire “Wicked” series. I realize she (Elphaba) was more misunderstood than evil and definitely the pawn of some ugly politics. Sarah P. is not the pawn of ugly politics, she is the instigator.

But somehow the image of Sarah Palin melting down before our eyes (and really melting down, not the stupid trap-door thing in Wicked) is a very satisfying image.

Love “Wicked”! Seeing for time three on my birthday in July.

        • aussiegal77 says:

hey no worries, I knew what you meant and agree, would so love to see her metaphorically melt in front of our eyes – never to be seen from again!!!

Loved Wicked – saw it twice in chicago! my sister got me the book, still getting round to read it.

“It is just ironic to me that this woman is being touted as Christianity’s answer to politics because this woman is the least compassionate, gracious, understanding, forgiving or caring person I have ever seen in my life.”

How much help has she given the Gulf residents? How much aide has she gathered and sent. How much money has she raised?
Has she even asked her Christian prayer warriors (a disturbing oxymoron) to pray for the people and animals of the Gulf?

Nope, and if we don’t nag her to do something nice for a change, she’ll never think of it on her own.
But since the people of the Gulf really do need help we probably can nag her into doing something positive because she reads many of the blogs that talk about her.

The Dutch know about dikes. That’s it? That’s what she’s got. So if Obama had called her, she’d advised him to call (sorry) return the Dutch’s phone calls.

    • Marnie says:

And guess what the Dutch were among the first people who came to help out.

      Truley.

      Sarah didn’t verify.

      Again.

      aslo.

      too.

    • Bodie P says:

But dikes break sometimes. Even Dutch dikes. She should read Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates. And isn’t the whole point about the little Dutch boy that the dike was–hello!–breaking? So will the Dutch leave us a supply of little boys to plug the dikes when the inevitable happens? Geez, I think I’ve gone down the rabbit hole and lost my way here.

Sooooooo, she thinks she was a CEO?????? Of What????? She couldn’t run a pig pen!

    • aussiegal77 says:

I know! What is WITH that whole CEO crap? She must think people really are as stupid as she is. No one in their right mind thinks of ELECTED public officials as CEOs. Hence the whole “public” vs “private” sector analogy! Government bureaucrats vs free market!

She is SO FREAKING IDIOTIC!!!! Why can’t we shut THIS gusher up either??!!

      • B in Co says:

Right Aussie Girl, her mouth is the biggest gusher of them all. Better call the Dutch to plug her dike!

      • HudsonElizabeth says:

I think the CEO thingy came up during the campaign when the RIGHT was hollering about how Obama had never been a chief executive, had never been in charge of anything — and how their VP candidate had run a city (or, is Wasilla a town, or even a village, maybe a hamlet?) and also been Governor of a state and so did have the experience that Obama was lacking. Sorry, my own long sentence, but I do believe it started way back then, almost 2 years ago — her trying to spin herself as more experienced than Obama in the “executive” type of work.

      • Dagian says:

        Ooh, ooh, ooh–I have it!

We have a bumper sticker made up with “Wind Between Her Ears” then (successfully) BEG Tina Fey to dress up like Sarah Palin and paste it over her mouth.

She wouldn’t have to say a word and that SNL skit would go viral.

        Whaddya think?

      • Madeline says:

I’m pretty sure her unsuccessful run for President (the one she is currently engaged in) will shut her up for good. She has nothing to offer, remember, she wasn’t even interesting enough to be a successful sports commentator. She’s getting nowhere with her reality shows, and even Fox has had to ditch her American Heroes (or whatever the bullsh@t name was) because it was so lame. Hope she’s saving her money to support herself and her family, cause we the taxpayers ain’t going to!

    • Marnie says:

At least she has upgraded Obama from Community Organizer (which governors and Pres’s actually are) to CEO.
She twists herself knots to not call him President Obama. Although she got so wound up in the last part of this interview that she actually said “President Obama.”

  116. JCos says:

Are there any foreign nations that are expert in non-fossil fuel energy?

    • Dagian says:

Germany has been VERY active in the field of renewable energy.

    • Marnie says:

Well those dykey Dutch were designing tidal flow electricity generators. I don’t know if those have been build or not.

Remember those quaint wind mills? Yup, 21C versions up and running.

And you know lots of streams and rivers could produce electricty with small turbines like they did 100 years ago. There are loans and grants in Maine for small single dwelling wind turbines. Lots of small low environmental impact things done thousands of times can add up to a lot of generating capacity.

      • Zyxomma says:

We tested tidal turbines in the East River (NYC) and they worked very well. Spain’s countryside is covered in wind turbines. Lots we can do.

    • Carol says:

I think Denmark also is doing well with non-petroleum based energy. Would have to check it out to be sure.

  117. Maria says:

Or do you mean the Debra Palfrey little black book?

    • aussiegal77 says:

Most definitely! I was thinking just now that Bill O is going to feel the wrath of Palin soon enough!

Plenty of room under the bus, Bill! hehehe

  118. knittergran says:

I never watch Fox but maybe I should. That was some interview, you betcha.
And Jerry G? Thanks for the laugh!!!

    • Marnie says:

And just like Couric and Matthews and Beck, he got her without having to ask anything but the simplest most predictable of questions.

When Fox starts playing Gotcha with its own staff, it turns iteslf into a Punch and Judy show. And the mentality and communication skills of their news staff is right down there as childish entertainment.

It is unblievable that Sarah or her joke writers have not come up with some kind of a$$ covering answer for that question. “Ok Sarah, your are, according to you, the nation’s expert. How would you stop the flow?”

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Excellent point, she never even attempted to answer the question. She probably did have a prepared answer ‘crafted’ by one of her hacks but it was too long to write on her hand and she doesn’t know shorthand. Did I just make a joke?

I’ll make a more general comment about this but I don’t think Fox is playing gotcha here at all. To use a topical analogy they are trying to play ball but the ball has a leak, so it is strictly softball.

  119. Seagull Junker Palin says:

    Humiliated is the word.

My Dad is a rightwinger who watches Bill O. This was for him, because he cannot stand Palin.

  120. Maria says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…(deep breath) HA!

  121. maelewis says:

Time to get out the pictures of the ginormous fence that Todd and his buddies put up overnight to stop the unwanted spying from the next door inquiring reporter/journalist. Fourteen feet of fence in front of the beaches should be good protection against the oil washing up on shore. And, using the Palin model, maybe the US can barter for it. That way, it won’t cost anything.

No one ever says this except for real experts: No one has ever tried to create an oil well one mile under the ocean. The water is cold, and the pressure changes the structure of the metal that was used in welding. Instead of spending the time and money in safety and tests, BP rushed the process. Sixty Minutes interviewed a survivor of the oil explosion who indicated the number of warnings and signs that the drilling operation was not safe. A rubber gasket had blown; a battery was burned out. BP over ruled any objections at staff meetings. This was a disaster waiting to happen. There was no contingency plan. Yup, I think that the fence will work!

    • leenie17 says:

I saw that 60 Minutes report and it made me naseous to think about how the greed of BP executives cost so many innocent people so much.

    • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

maelewis – just a couple of minor points. There are successful wells currently in production that have been drilled in deeper water in the GoM. The deepest that I have come across so far is a well in over 10,000′ of water drilled 25,000′ into the sea bed. It was a disaster waiting to happen. The cold and pressure conditions are well within the specifications for the fabrication of the elements used in constructing such wells when properly implemented. It is quite true that there were a number of warnings and characteristic problems that indicated the well was getting out of control. I won’t go into any of them. You are quite correct that BP overruled safety and industry standards of operation to save time and money. To be charitable BP might have saved $10 million by cutting the corners they did. To contrast that with the consequences they have already lost probably 15 times that amount just in wasted oil and 1500 times that amount in damage to and destruction of economies in the gulf. I don’t have any idea how you could put a price on the horror and suffering and death of the millions of birds, fish, mullosks, crustaceans and mammals or even suggest what the consequence will be like in another two months time.

      • physicsmom says:

Not to mention the 11 people who died and the impact on their families. The cost to them is incalculable.

    • Bodie P says:

Maybe we can give it to the norwegians and the dutch to get them started on that dike.

  122. kiksadi50 says:

Palin never held Exxon accountable. Why don’t any of the non-Fox news people ever nail her on that? In addition: when our boat was contracted to work the Exxon oil spill I called the main office in Kodiak to find out why months had passed & we still had not received any money the response from the guy in charge was ” I haven’t seen anything this disorganized since Vietnam”. And our spill was tiny next to this one. She always makes sure to throw BP a bone when she finishes criticizing them (Obamma really) because she knows Alaskan’s economy would tank without them. Cap n Trade, Cap n Trade: I am sick of hearing about it. It was the sh*tty cement job by Haliburton that kicked the whole thing off, why aren’t they being sued?

    • nswfm says:

I think I’ve read that Haliburton wanted to use 22 of something when doing the cementing job, but BP wanted to only use 6. Not that I like love Haliburton, but I think the fault really is on BP’s cutting of corners.

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Pardon a bit of pedantry… nswfm is correct – one factor in play here was the number of “centering devices” used in placing the hole liner before the cementing of the hole. Halliburton specified 22 centering devices but BP only allowed them to use 6 because it would have taken 10-12 hours extra to place all the additional centering devices. Why this is a critical choice is too complicated to explain here but it was one of several self-compounding fatal mistakes.

Halliburton’s cement job appears to have been up to standards except that they used nitrogen foamed cement, which without near perfect centering would not have had the density to securely seal the space between the borehole and the liner. In addition, not enough time was allowed for the cement to cure. Cementing is a chemical reaction and time is the critical factor in allowiing the reaction to go to completion or as near completion as is feasible. In both cases Halliburton was overruled by BP management on going ahead with the hole. However, I think they are still partly culpable for not protesting more vigorously that the risks involved outweighed the benefits.

Something I have not been able to figure out yet is still more technical but may be critical. It has been said that one step omitted in sealing the well was circulating the drilling mud. The purpose of this exercise is to a) get a quantitative idea of how much methane gas is dissolved in the mud and b) eliminate as much of that gas as possible. The reason I have seen cited for not circulating the mud was that it would take 10 to 12 hours to do so. This bears then upon the timing of the cement job. If it would take 10-12 hours to circulate the mud it would assumably take about an equal amount of time to complete the cement job. That would mean, given that BP elected to go ahead with displacing the riser that the last cement placed at the bottom of the well would be the least cured.

      • leenie17 says:

From the reports I’ve seen, there was negligence and corner-cutting from BP, Halliburton AND Transocean.

Gotta save a few pennies on the job whenever you can, right? Nevermind that you’re taking a chance on destroying umpteen square miles of vital watershed, killing several generations of wildlife, devastating the economy of at least four states and ruining the lives of tens of thousands of people. ‘Cause you need to make that extra few trillion for the shareholders, and who needs to worry about all those ‘small people’ anyway!

  123. Dagian says:

Sentence three is 102 words long. Not even F. Scott Fitzgerald rattled on to that degree.

    • zyggy says:

and she certainly is no John Stuart Mills, who actually could write long sentences. 162 words, and at least it made sense, “We may give what explanation we please of this unwillingness; we may attribute it to pride, a name which is given indiscriminately to some of the most and to some of the least estimable feelings of which mankind are capable; we may refer it to the love of liberty and personal independence, as appeal to which was with the Stoics one of the most effective means for the inculcation of it; to the love of power or to the love of excitement, both of which do really enter into and contribute to it; but its most appropriate appellation is a sense of dignity, which all human beings possess in one form or other, and in some, though by no means in exact, proportion to their higher faculties, and which is so essential a part of the happiness of those in whom it is strong that nothing which conflicts with it could be otherwise than momentarily an object of desire to them.”

      • Dagian says:

Bless him, he knew the lost art of punctuation. colons and semicolons are beautiful things!

      • Zyxomma says:

Another writer who could pull it off is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. In one of his novels (I forget whether it was Autumn of the Patriarch or Nobody Writes to the Colonel), every chapter was a single sentence.

    • Bodie P says:

Melville did in Moby Dick–there’s a sentence there that is, unlike this one, grammatically correct, and it’s more than a page long. Didn’t work for Melville. Doesn’t work for Sarah. A sentence should never be so long you can’t see the beginning of it from the end of it.

    • Pinwheel says:

Perhaps we are missing the mark. Writing a very long sentence is an entirely different animal than pontificating one.

  124. boodog says:

    • BigPete says:

      In what respect, Bill?

In my part of rural Alaska, grandmothers totally rule. With that said, I took the opportunity to pass down a little knowledge….

I told my wonderful grandson that $carah’s pointy head is resultant of a really big mosquito bite. I told my handsome grandson that really big ugly Mosquitos grow from toxic waters and that $carah lives on a poluted lake, filled with toxins. The realy big ugly Mosquitos know who poluted the lake and will bite them on the head and attempt to suck the brains out. So I told my grandson to never cause any polution in the waters. Any waters. And to speak up when people polute waters.

Needless to say my grandson’s father butted in and asked if I knew any stories about the aurora. Which was a big clue that I should change the subject….

My grandson and I ended up going to the sandbox and drawing pointy head people with Mosquitos tryin to such their brains out.

I must admit, my grandson has my artistic traits.
        Grins…

Espacially if you have no brain matter, cause from what I heard, the big ugly mosquito will keep tryin to suck the brains out and it could get annoying. A clear example of this is Scarah’s increased fustration toward the end of the commentary.

    • nswfm says:

The CEO of an oil company is on the same level as the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?????

      Um, no, honey.

      • laprofesora says:

She can’t bear to call him “President”, on account of that jealousy-thingy

        • pinhead says:

Yes, you’ve nailed it. She refuses to refer to him as “President Obama.” I have never heard her do so. She refers to him disrespectfully as “Obama” or the “CEO of our country,” or sneeringly as a “community organizer.” She has absolutely no respect for our constitutionally-elected president and is still smarting over her loss.

(I know, I know, I just used “smarting” in a sentence about Sarah Palin. My bad. But you know what I mean.)

She is using her “magical thinking” and refusal to say the words “President Obama” to make herself believe he didn’t defeat her and McCain. Crazy, no?

      • HistoryGoddess says:

I think she needs to go back and read the Constitution as I am pretty sure CEO is not found in Article II.

Not satisfied with ruining politics for Americans, Palin seeks to ingratiate herself to the Brits. Hopefully they have more sense and slam that door shut! Run, Maggie, run!!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2010/jun/15/sarah-palin-meets-margaret-thatcher

Now look – I have mixed thoughts on Thatcher but the woman knew her stuff. She was disciplined and she worked hard on understanding the issues. Palin – not so much.

    Great quote:

“That said, if Palin hopes to style herself as the second coming she has a few things to learn. She might wish to study Thatcher’s disciplined command of arguments, facts and statistics, for instance. By the time Thatcher was elected, she’d enjoyed a 20-year parliamentary career. Her clearly expressed views – clearly expressed, I stress – about every crisis, problem and debate of concern to Britain were a matter of public record. Palin has neither said nor written a line so far that would allow anyone reasonably to conclude that her opinions about economic and foreign policy are as cogent and informed as Thatcher’s. No one (not me, anyway) can argue with her conservative instincts, but to compare her ability to express them with Thatcher’s would be ludicrous.”

In 1946 Roberts took the Final Honour School examination, graduating with a Second Class Bachelor of Arts degree. She subsequently studied crystallography and received a postgraduate BSc degree in 1947. Three years later, in 1950, she achieved a Master of Arts advanced degree, according to her entitlement as an Oxford BA of seven years’ standing since matriculation.

She read chemistry at Somerville College, Oxford and later trained as a barrister.

    • aussiegal77 says:

I liked how Claire’s article ended – she is spot on. Intellectually, Palin is a complete dud. She knows this, of course she does. Which is why she visibly bristles at the very hint of being challenged. She’s defensive because it’s a survival technique. She knows she doesn’t have the first clue about any of the major issues facing this nation.

However – she doesn’t care. She knows she can exploit her “just a hockey mom looking for a way to give her kids a better America” schtick for as long as it’s got the mileage. She knows it works, of course she does. She may be a moron but she ain’t blind. She figured this out a long time ago. We’ll see more of this behaviour in 2012 – whether or not she runs for the WH.

Unless of course she shoots herself in the foot before that – which is also entirely possible!

I never thought I’d say it but “Go Bill.” He knows she doesn’t belong anywhere near Wash.D.C..

    • Vern in TahuyaWA says:

      Now that was funny!

    • Dagian says:

      http://www.makestickers.com/

(Almost) all things are possible. Enjoy!

    • Buffalogal says:

I’m Dutch on my Mom’s side and double-score, also gay. Dammit – I called Obama to offer my Dutch dike superior know-how but he’s dissed me too with the proverbial can’t even get a phone call back.

      Oh yeah , Sistah $arah – I hear ya. O yes I do ! An outrage!

      • daisydem says:

Okay, this one wins. Buffalogal, you are awesome! Awesome, do you hear me? I may have to take the rest of the day off; I can’t work now. There are tears rolling down my cheeks I am laughing so hard.

      • OMG says:

        Brilliant!!!!!!

      • Gramiam says:

Dutch dike????? ROFLMAO!! You go, Buffy!

      • bubbles says:

Buffgal…this is too much! i am hurting from laughing too hard. Jeebus.
i take it that sarah tried to call the President. he wouldn’t take sarah’s call; hence the “gimme a call” routine from her on twitter and the statement that President Obama wouldn’t take a call from the Netherlands or Norway (like she would know to whom he is talking).one thing is for damm sure and that is that the President and CEO of the United States of America is not interested in talking to her. to you or me maybe but definitely not to her.

        • Madeline says:

Scarah is probably peeing her pants because Obama called another Alaskan woman (who just happens to be educated, informed, and has “executive experience”), Fran Ulmer instead. Nothing like NOT getting a date to the prom!

          • jojobo1 says:

she will probably come up with I told him to get someone from Alaska and he did.Forgetting he most likely already had this in mind from other more reliable people.

      • MinNJ says:

        Hysterical!!!…trying to catch breath…

      • leenie17 says:

Ya just can’t make this stuff up.

Every time Wind Between Her Ears opens up her mouth, yet another priceless gem just falls out and presents itself on a lovely silver platter (with a lace doilie, of course).

I am shocked, shocked I say, that the President has not jumped at the chance to take advantage of your Dutch dike superior know-how. It’s simply shameful!

        Now if $arah was president…

        • Dagian says:

          “Wind Between Her Ears”

Okay—that HAS to become a bumper sticker. All we need is a little photo of Palin with her mouth open, as usual.

      • Bretta says:

double-score Dutch dyke – BEST of the DAY

      • Irishgirl says:

        Loved your comment Buf.

      • HistoryGoddess says:

Most excellent jesting, buffalogal! Thanks for the laughs.

      • seattlefan says:

        Bwahaha! Excellent Buffalogal!

      • I See Villages From My House says:

LOL, that’s classic! And when and where in the hell has Not Getting a Phone Call Back become a well known refrigerator magnet saying? On her mom and dad’s refrigerator full of moose stew and lasagna?

      • mommom says:

OMG!!! What a Tweet this would make !! I love you !!!

      • GrainneKathleen says:

i am laughing so hard my ribs hurt! i am going to bookmark this page so i can enjoy your wildly funny comment anytime i feel like it. i wonder how sarah learned so much about dutch dikes? hmmmm.

      • NOLA says:

If AKM had a “Post of the Day” this would win, hands down! Brilliantly funny.

      • Sarah in SC says:

Best thing I’ve heard in weeks–and that includes describing Palin as BP Barbie AND the full-on “carpool mom with tourette’s” description.

        double-score, indeed–dutch dike superior know how–ROFL! Excellent!

i may wake up in the middle of the night laughing at this one! just great! 🙂

      • benlomond2 says:

way to go , Buff !!! 🙂 but now I have to ask the follow up question of Sarah… how many dikes will it take to protect the Gulf Coast.?? ( it’s a “gotcha” math question! ) and will the Republican goverments of those states allow them to fly in from Calif and other parts of the country to save their coastlines ??? oh! OH! OH ! I know, I know !! They won’t ask, so the dikes won’t have to tell !!!

      • Enjay in E MT says:

        Buffalogal?

        You really Dutch?
        Would have never guessed that.

        😉

      • Baker's Dozen says:

Oh my gosh. Everyone’s gone to bed and it’s a small house. I’m siting here, tears streaming down my face from stifling my guffaws.
Perhaps you could throw in a couple of Dutch masters to sweeten the deal. Or Van Dyke paintings.
Are there Norwegian dikes? We know Obama isn’t taking calls from Iran; their government said months ago that they don’t have any.

      • Tealwomin says:

you are funny as heck…made me laff hard too also….

then Bodie P messes around and says something about how the dutch are good at damming…..LOL….Dutch dykes with damns….

    • nswfm says:

I was laughing at “known for dikes” comment when I first saw the video above this AM on

      http://lynnrockets.wordpress.com/2010/06/16/palins-boobs-were-made-for-talkin/

If you get that in sticker form, can we use it to cover her mouth?

PolitiFact’s Liar of the Year 2009, $P strikes again!

      • Nebraska Native says:

OH BG.. may not recover from that remark….. YOU ROCK!

      • Bodie P says:

I was boggling in my tiny little mind at the thought of all the dutch and norwegians and oh heck why not, dikes, out madly racing the oil spill, trying to erect a twenty-foot high wall around the southeastern United States. I wonder what effect damming the ocean would have on the Everglades? Once they finish that, maybe we can hook them up with Border Patrol and fix that whole people-sneaking-over-the-border thing? Just a thought.

    • Marnie says:

Gives new meaning to Dutch Date, doesn’t it?

    • dowl says:

I really thought (and heard) Sarah Palin say ‘Dutch IN Norwegians’ not the more appropriate Dutch and Norwegians as transcribed by AKM. Thanks AKM for taking the time to transcribe the scribbled scamblings of the leader of the many-mini-minds for Fox viewers and the rest of critical thinking rill ‘muricans.

    • meme says:

maybe the fixed news and others of similar ilk are through using pale.n and now want
to allow her to rant and ramble on the air as a means of minimizing her for the next two elections
      cycles.

meaning they , fixed news, know that pale.n will drag down the repuke party, and

fixed news would prefer that not to happen.

    • GREYDOG says:

      Good one, Jerry G!

    • mudbug says:

I suppose you can find them in SanFranciso? 😉

    • pinhead says:

She actually said: “Dutch and the Norwegian.” As in the singular. According to Palin, there is only one Norwegian who knows how to fix this leak.

      I wonder who it is?
