Palin – “The Undefeated”

“Really? You think she’s running?”

I’ve been asked this question dozens of times by incredulous-looking people with furrowed brows.

Yes. Yes, I do.

And today comes the announcement that Sarah Palin, who has been politically written off by anyone who seriously understands how real presidential campaigns are supposed to work; and anyone who is saying to themselves that her numbers are down; and anyone who thinks she doesn’t stand a moose’s chance in September of actually winning, has a “secret weapon.”

No it isn’t some kind of magic gas in silver canisters that will be dropped on neighborhoods across America in the night, turning otherwise reasonably intelligent people into Palinbots. As you may recall from her resignation speech when she quit the governorship of Alaska on the shores of Lake Lucille, “only dead fish go with the flow”. That’s completely untrue of course, but nobody has bothered to mention that little biological fish fact. Her ignorance of things that swim notwithstanding, her secret weapon is what it always has been – going against “the flow.”

When she was worried about getting noticed in her Wasilla mayoral campaign, she picked pink and green as her campaign colors. When the media was all mean to her when she was governor, she started Tweeting. When no one cared what she had to say in press releases, she started posting on Facebook. And now that the GOP establishment looks at Palin like a bad rash, and her numbers are in the tank – she’s decided to go Hollywood. Not Hollywood in the “liberal elite” sense, but Hollywood in the “I found a conservative guy to make a fluff movie that will convince people I’m someone else” kind of movie.

Lights, camera, action! Enter conservative filmmaker Stephen Bannon, whose previous work apparently impressed the ex-half-governor. Almost in the can now is a full length feature film extolling the virtues and strengths of a woman who never existed, but whom Sarah Palin would have liked to have been. Actually as long as YOU believe that’s who she was, that’s all that matters.

The film will be titled “The Undefeated.” The fact, of course, that Palin actually WAS defeated aside, the title somehow sounds like it should be read in a dark, hollow, deep voice and that the letters should suddenly start dripping something. Like the Undead, Sarah is poised to rise again from the Twitterverse, from a suspended state of Facebookery, from the virtual Mama Grizzly den, and once again enter your world – as a presidential candidate.

Can she win? Barring some unforeseen and extraordinary act of God, no. So why would she run?

a) She believes in unforeseen and extraordinary acts of God.
b) She can continue to bask in the warmth of the body heat of cheering people and the golden rays of the klieg lights.
c) She and her new inner sanctum can have fun and slam people they don’t like.
d) They can also make buckets of money.
e) It’s a competition, and “the undefeated” doesn’t like to lose.

This isn’t a new idea either. Back when she was running for Wasilla mayor and one of her campaign volunteers told her that if she played her cards right, she might be governor some day, Sarah said, “I want to be President.”

When people tell you what they want, believe them.

Yes, boys and girls, Sarah Heath Palin wants to be president when she grows up. And while we’re waiting for her to grow up, she’s going to run. So, get your spangly formals and your tuxes and prepare to check out the premiere of “The Undefeated” when they roll out the red carpet, and the limos start arriving… in Iowa.

Palin’s appearance at “Rolling Thunder” show’s what a dispicable low life bag of cat puke she really is. To use a venue honoring our POWs and MIAs to promote herself and pad her bank account is beyond sleazy… She should be banned from making any appearance at this event… Now she’s inferring that she is being endorsed by “Rolling Thunder”? She is not and has not been endorsed by any part of the event.

Lawrence O’Donnell explained last night why Palin isn’t running. He had said very early on that Trump would not be running past May 16 because that was when he had to commit to NBC for the apprentice, and it was in fact May 16 when Trump announced he wouldn’t be running. So I hope Lawrence is right about this. I’m ready to enjoy the Republican primary without Sarah in it.

so, a feature length movie of someone i cannot listen to for more than a couple of seconds at a time. for a minute there i thought her 15 minutes had finally ended. sigh.

  5. Motorhead says:

Soooooo…. about that “bus tour” $arah is about to take from DC up through New England… Does Franklin Graham have the jet ready to whisk her from bus stop to bus stop?

  6. Moles says:

    Sorry, I still don’t think she’s running.

    • slipstream says:

If she runs, she gets a lot of press. If she doesn’t run, she gets no press. Given that ego, which choice do you think she will make?

      • Moles says:

If she runs, she steps outside her comfort zone and will get torn to pieces. If she keeps on teasing, she remains relevant and stays in the spotlight.

  7. g says:

The movie will be crap. According to an article in the UK Guardian , its a 2 hour documentary with a budget of $1 million. (picture Dr. Evil saying “one million dollars!”)

It features a bunch of talking heads like Andrew Breitbart, praising her, and – get this – “The politician does not appear on camera, but her voice is used for narration via clips from the audiobook version of Going Rogue. ”

They couldn’t even get footage of her! (probably didn’t pay her for it). The voice-overs are recycled audiobook clips! Even for Palin fans, there’s nothing new here – any reasonable fan would feel cheated after paying for a ticket.

This film is going to make “Atlas Shrugged” look like box-office boffo!

Her bus tour is going to bomb, too.

It’s an event planner’s nightmare. Who’s doing the permits and the logistics? Many historic sites don’t allow partisan political events – and she doesn’t have any other material in her portfolio other than Mean Girl insults to the president. And for those who do allow it – what’s the image she’ll leave, insulting the President of the United States in front of a hallowed patriotic site? I can’t see that as going over well at all.

The timing is all wrong. She’s playing New England in the height of June, for heavens’ sake – it’s graduation time, who’s going to stop by the local park for a rally in the parking lot when your kid or grandkid is graduating? Why is she going to New England when Iowa is the first primary?

She’s a fool, advised by fools, and marketing herself to fools, whose money she’s after. She ain’t going to give up that sweet, sweet Fox News paycheck.

  9. benlomond2 says:

She’s not running. Lawerence contacted Fox, and there’s no change in her employment status… SO!! she’s just milking as many fools as she can…

  10. Her entertainment factor is over-rated and I’m so tired of seeing her on television or hearing news people try to talk about her like she has a real chance at winning anything except a bad hair contest. Isn’t there someone who is honest enough to tell her to stop running for jobs she doesn’t really want and quit wasting everyone’s time? Never, mind. She wouldn’t listen anyway.

  11. Mo says:

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/how-roger-ailes-built-the-fox-news-fear-factory-20110525?page=1

The result of this concerted campaign of disinformation is a viewership that knows almost nothing about what’s going on in the world. According to recent polls, Fox News viewers are the most misinformed of all news consumers. They are 12 percentage points more likely to believe the stimulus package caused job losses, 17 points more likely to believe Muslims want to establish Shariah law in America, 30 points more likely to say that scientists dispute global warming, and 31 points more likely to doubt President Obama’s citizenship. In fact, a study by the University of Maryland reveals, ignorance of Fox viewers actually increases the longer they watch the network. That’s because Ailes isn’t interested in providing people with information, or even a balanced range of perspectives. Like his political mentor, Richard Nixon, Ailes traffics in the emotions of victimization.

“What Nixon did – and what Ailes does today in the age of Obama – is unravel and rewire one of the most powerful of human emotions: shame,” says Perlstein, the author of Nixonland. “He takes the shame of people who feel that they are being looked down on, and he mobilizes it for political purposes. Roger Ailes is a direct link between the Nixonian politics of resentment and Sarah Palin’s politics of resentment. He’s the golden thread.”

    • mike from iowa says:

Roger Ailes is the missing link between early human ancestors that drug their knuckles on the ground and the earliest known weasel family groups, the ones that really stink!

It would take a LOT for me to leave Alaska, but I don’t want to live here with her in ‘charge’ of dog catching, much less the entire US. AARRGGHH! Frustration!!

There is..no way..that enough of the voting public..she speaks to..can form..enough for a ‘win’..running for pres..or as a vp. again. UnTweated showing in Iowa’s heartland? That’s give the state a collective state of heartburn! 🙂

A medieval soldier with an arrow sticking out of his back? That’s an apt analogy. Her ideas ARE medieval and should be shot down, though I will not go so far as to put a bulls eye on her or suggest she should be shot. That’s her provence.

Lions only kill the sick, injured and basically useless zebras (except, of course, the young ones, but Palin doesn’t qualify as young). Is she saying she’s useless? I’m seeing a trend here–a trend that shows she’s finally figuring out what she’s good for–culling so the strong survive!

Two hour long sweeping epic? Perhaps it should be called “Blown with the Breeze.”

  26. PennyArcade says:

I wish someone would dig up the video of her preaching in her evangelical church in Wasilla and saying: God wants us to have a gasline, so you should all pray for that?

In other words, she is saying God talks to her. In the old days, they had a special lockdown place for people like that. If anyone believes God talks to Sarah Palin, I’ve got a “Bridge to Nowhere” to sell you.

  28. aussiegal77 says:

Heaven help us. And I DO mean that because I also too believe in miracles from God! Maybe not in the same way that Palin does i.e. that all miracles and all doings of God is specifically all about ME.

I can’t believe she is running but I am not surprised. The Palin supporters will be out in droves but I wonder if the independents and swing voters will be convinced. She didn’t do herself any favours at all with the reality show and the blood libel video. Her speeches are terrible and anything else she’s put out makes no sense on close examination.

Plus – isn’t this kinda a way longer version of the Obama/Biden 30 min commercial right before the 2008 election? Well….way longer and all about Palin instead of about what solutions she’s got for America (hint: it’s because she doesn’t have any solutions!)

“Not Hollywood in the “liberal elite” sense, but Hollywood in the “I found a conservative guy to make a fluff movie that will convince people I’m someone else” kind of movie.”

Has anybody else seen the movie, “I, Psychopath”? Yeah–this is more of the same. It was released in 2009. It should be bundled with this straight-to-the-bargain-bin turkey-to-be.

    Here’s a synopsis:

But… it takes one to truly know one. In this intriguing documentary, Sam Vaknin, a self-proclaimed psychopath, goes in search of a diagnosis. In a scientific first, he allows himself to undergo testing to find out if he was born without a conscience. He knows he’s narcissistic and cannot empathize with others. By his own admission, he’s pompous, grandiose, repulsive and contradictory, ruthless and devoid of scruples, capricious and unfathomable… but he believes, he’s not a bad person. What he is is indifferent…he couldn’t care less. Unless, of course, the topic is himself.

Vaknin and his long-suffering but ever-loyal wife, Lidija, embark on a diagnostic road trip. But, it’s uncharted territory… deep into the mind and life of a psychopath. The 47-year-old convicted corporate criminal has agreed to take part in the pursuit of his own diagnosis… meeting the world’s experts in psychopathy in the hope that science will provide some answers for why he is like he is. These experts put Vaknin (and his wife) through a battery of rigorous psychological tests and neuro-scientific experiments.

Vaknin is shocked at the results. Sam, his wife, the scientists, the film-makers – will they ever be quite the same again?

    • bubbles says:

i saw that Dagian! when i was researching malignant narcissism Sam Vaknin’s website was the first i came across. i must say he was very honest about Malignant people so i was intrigued when i watched this documentary in which he discovers that he is way past being a sociopath and is in fact a full blown psychopath.
i could see he he had already accepted his diagnosis and was rather pleased. his wife is a total enabler and her future is quite dismal. he will never let her go. she is his private nutrient supply and he will feed on her as long as she lives which won’t be long if she should attempt to flee.

  31. Priscilla says:

    The Undefeated…………..???? Doesn’t she remember 2008???

    • aussiegal77 says:

I really hope that will be the FIRST THING everyone wonders every time this vanity film is mentioned!

(Undefeated…..I don’t think it means what she thinks it means….)

    • johnny says:

Didn’t she also lose the LT gov race? So she won 2 (mayor and gov), and lost 2, VP and LT gov. I think she’s undefeated in excelling in the nastiest VP rallies ever known in modern history.

  32. knittergran says:

Who on earth, and I mean that literally, would agree to run with her???

    • johnny says:

That guy from GF pizza, that guy from Florida, anyone who is looking for publicity and can see what she has done, moneywise, from the publicity she got with the hate rallies, and with pushing her children into the limelight. There’s money in them thar hills.

    • tigerwine says:

Hey, think about it. She might quit mid-term and the VP would step right in!

  33. TrueBlueGirl says:

This is going to get ugly. Either the GOP will sacrifice her as an expendable candidate (which will be hugely expensive for them to support her) – in which case she will uncage the all the ignorance, hatred and bigotry she has long promised – or the GOP will save themselves and covertly torpedo her with career-ending leaks – but we know she will not leave the stage without retribution, which will most likely involve the unhinged of her followers and violence.

Neither will be a popcorn moment for our country, and I feel dread.

  34. tigerwine says:

HAHAHAHA! As one blogger on another site pointed out, in the first part of the clip that Hannity showed:

“One big lie in this whatever it is………”In 1977 ExxonMobil…….” ……There was no ExxonMobil until 1999″

If this is just a mini-minute clip and there is an error, how many more are there? This should be fun!

One question: I guess from what I read that the film will be shown to selected (read Repubs) audiences in Iowa, NH, SC and NV first, then maybe more of those, more widely. I haven’t heard that it will be available to your local theatre. Anyone?

    • aussiegal77 says:

Fact checks?! Mavericks don’t need no fact checks!!!

      hehe

    • Bev says:

I would not watch it even if they paid me all her money….the voice on the chalk board is more then one can handle.

  35. jimzmum says:

I don’t want her to run. Really. This country needs to get back to serious debate, sound reasoning, and the ability to focus on candidates who want to make a difference, and have the experience to do so, on all levels.

This country does not need the “crap on the bottom of my shoe” rhetoric of a failed quasi-politician. Sure, it is her right to run. But, somebody needs to have a come to Jesus with the woman. She is mentally ill, and that illness has already caused another ill person to do horrible things. Should she decide to run, her press exposure will be greater, and that sickening rhetoric will spread.

    Yuck.

    • Lilybart says:

So true. We can’t believe this woman would dare to run, so we make jokes, but it is only because we are horrified! It would be an ugly circus if she ran on the GOP ticket and she needs to be stopped.

    • OMG says:

I’m with you on that. I do not want to see the US go down the path of having someone so unqualified and unsuited for the presidency actually run for the office. Not only can anything happen in America (which is beyond frightening) but the mere fact that she is being considered for higher office is an insult to a great nation.

    • G Katz says:

I have to agree with you. I don’t want another election cycle where the clown is getting all the coverage and serious issues are sidelined. Unfortunately, any effort to reveal the truth about the woman seems mostly to feed the beast. I’m still clinging to the belief that her base is limited no matter how much attention she gets, but that won’t make it any easier if she starts to dominate the media again.

      • Millie says:

Palin knows how to divide people…just ask Alaskans. We want her off the national scene and soon. Cannot believe the Republicans would support her. Where in the hell is McCain?

    • aussiegal77 says:

I had hoped against hope she wouldn’t run because I agree with you, it would be poisonous for all of us.

I am absolutely sick and tired of the level of political discourse in America. I just can’t believe how low it’s sunk. It’s serious business to lead the country but not a lot of people seem to care about that anymore. They just want their Uncle Jim to be President and hand out puppies or something. Everything is like American Idol – a popularity contest devoid of any substance.

I know in any election populism has a role – but you would think for something as important as the highest office in the land substance and knowledge of the issues would trump that easily.

    • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Unfortunately there is already plenty of sickening rhetoric to go around and the republicans seem to relish it. So I think we will be seeing plenty of it whether she is in the game or not. She was McCain’s attack dog and did her job well, except it backfired and she ended up turning off nearly everyone with a brain who voted. The republicans don’t really care what happens to the US, only what happens to their corporate owners. Just look at what they have done for the last two and a half years to help the economy recover – nothing.

    • vyccan says:

Jizmum, I’m with you on this.

      • vyccan says:

(Now that I’ve read all the comments in this section) Actually, I agree with all of you.

    • jimzmum says:

Thank you all. I am tired of business as usual.

  36. Cinquifoil says:

I do have to say I’ll watch the movie. Yes, ACES is a success. It was filmed here in secret…

Word Salad Scenes would be a name of the movie documenting Sarah Palin. A good authoritian male voice talking about what Sarah Palin just said when she was Governor of Alaska.

I’m curious how Ethan’s treated…a montage of still photos and narration, or a realistic story of how Alaska Democrats were the 1st responders to the failure of the GOP.

  37. OMG says:

First she writes letters praising herself then she commissions a film to do the same. Does her love of self know no bounds?

  38. Jamie says:

The Undefeated….The Undead… hysterical! I am only hoping and praying that her ego and narcissism do make her run and her opponents will finally have the “cajones” to dig up the truth about her and use it to rip her apart. But never never never doubt the power of the ignorant…

  39. Ripley in CT says:

You forgot F): She’ll be that much closer to making this country a theocracy, bible-based-government run entity.

I still think D) is the one that draws her the closest.

  40. Bev says:

See..she wants to run but not spend her own money…this guy does the movie at his expense, shows it in the important states(she does not even have to travel) there is no one there to tell you her lies.

And this way she can see how she fairs in those important states without looking foolish showing up.
Clever little flying monkey with red shoes…..

Now I believe she has landed in Arizona (via maybe a Tornado??) and I bet she is laying in wait for maybe a Senate seat if she does not go for President.
She scares the crap out of me.

  41. mike from iowa says:

Taylor Swift has written and recorded Palin’s Campaign theme song-All you’ll ever be is mean.

    • Lilybart says:

“I don’t know where Sarah’s mind is, I don’t think anyone knows that,” said Meg Stapleton, who served as Palin’s spokeswoman in the governor’s office and after.

Where IS her mind? Good question!

  42. OMG says:

I hope her opponents or at least the Dems use all her lies in big shiny new ads–Sarah juxtaposed with Sarah, saying one thing then doing or saying the opposite. There is so much ammunition (I thought she’d like the weaponry reference) out there–I just hope they don’t hesitate to use it.

What I’ve noticed since she managed to push her way through that open door is that she constantly says that she is honest and her fans buy it. Reading “Blind Allegiance…” I see that that is nothing new for her. Let’s hope that she has gotten away with dishonesty for the last time. After all, she’s in the big leagues now and Rove, Ailes, and even the Koch boys need to politically destroy her if they really care anything about their country.

    • HudsonElizabeth says:

But, that is it, really, isn’t it? Do they care about the country in any way other than how they can strip everyone of any and all rights, money, etc. They are just like Sarah, in it to get as rich as possible with no concern at all for the people they are hurting while they do it. It seems to me that the reason they don’t like her any longer is that they finally realize they can’t control her for their own benefit.

      • Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

I’m not so sure they realize they can’t control her, they probably can and do to a certain extent already and they could no doubt do her considerable harm if they chose to. I think it is more a matter of them acknowledging that she is so far down the hill from winning a general election that it would be a sweeping disaster for the republicans if she headed a national ticket. Coat-tails and all that other pundit wisdom. There are a lot of republican governors and state legislatures sewn up right now and they know that if Palin is in the game they will lose and lose big, they might well lose the House and hand the democrats a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

As I have said, my hope is she will go rouge and run as a tea-party candidate after the establishment torpedos her chances in the primaries.

        One can dream can’t one?

        • mike from iowa says:

Are there any Amazonian tribes looking for leadership? We could send her as a badwill ambassodor, because that is what it would turn out to be. And no,I have nothing against indigenous peoples of any Nation. It was just a thought.

  43. Valley_Independent says:

Anybody know where I can get one of those “Palin 2012 – 2014 1/2” bumperstickers?

    • Dagian says:

You can make them for yourself (and in wildly clashing colours too, if you so desire):

    Just finished the book.
How and why anybody would support this woman is beyond me.
But she fits in with the hypocritical republican crowd sooo.
But reading how the rag tag team manipulated any poll about palin makes me wonder how well she really was liked in Alaska? what were the poll numbers really like?
What did she really do for Alaska?
Will dairy gate and the ‘pipeline to no where that has not been built yet’ have any affect?
I still think she will hold out to the last min., cash in on all that good Fox Money and donations and skip having to debate anybody to show how dumb she really really is.
The republicans will not support her and she will have to go teaparty/3rd party. She will not win,but that still leaves 2016.

Still it would be very satisfying to see her debate POTUS Obama!

  49. Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

    Slipstream, nicely done.

I like this post AKM, it is worthy of your past perspectives which bound me to this blog in the first place. Thank you.

Palin has to run. If she doesn’t her brand will not just be tarnished but so oxidized that no one will remember her because there is no one in the republican field who can even challenge let alone beat Obama next year. Personally I might get slight satisfaction if she managed to become the republican nominee and run against him. He would politely and meticulously make mince meat of her. It would be a landslide of historical proportions. So I think most republicans who are serious about trying to obtain power at the federal level, which is after all, the only thing that matters, will run from her as fast and as far as they can. She is toxic. The other side of the three sided coin is that she will run on the tea-party ticket because she is so self-absorbed that she really thinks she can mesmerize some majority. That would be glorious. Having the tea-baggers queen running against the party standard would make it utterly impossible for the repuglicans to game the election in their favor as they did twice before. Hubris has a price.

I think we should goad her into running against Obama. She is after all a prima donna who hides behind the one way media of facebook and twitter. Could she stand up to the degree of criticisim and hatefulness levelled at Obama? Not at all.

Yep- but maybe the 3rd party should be called FNFF (Fox News Fear Factory) as described by Tim Dickinson (Rolling Stone) on how Roger Ailes built Fox News. It is a pretty lengthy read but I thought alot of it rang true for me especially how so many on the GOP/Tea Party ticket in the 2010 elections made such overt references to watch/praise FOX. Column dosen’t talk too much about Pay-for-my-bumpit$-lyn, but I think she is being humped by him, not literally, but too many GOP/Tea Parties loves their “fair and balanced”.

Since I doubt Palin would make it through the primaries,

I do have an objection, though, red is her signature color, I doubt that her new campaign signs (like the one above) would have that much blue in them, in spite of the fact that our flag is red, white and blue…

Absolutely. No debates, and if there is the necessity to do one, count on blanket statements like “I may not answer the questions you pose to me or want me to answer, I will concentrate on getting my record across”. That is, the parts of her record that she likes. I still think Gwen Ifill should have been media blackballed for letting her get away with that.

        • bubbles says:

          i agree. very disappointing.

        • vyccan says:

Also, don’t forget that there have been other interviewers since who have dealt with her with ‘kid gloves*’.

          * wonder where the kid gloves expression originated? Never wondered about it before.

          • Dagian says:

“* wonder where the kid gloves expression originated? Never wondered about it before.”

Kid gloves are made out of the skin of a young goat (kid) and it’s very soft, pliable, sensitive, more easily worked & torn.

They weren’t cheap. So you handled them gingerly.

“kid gloves” were made from the skin of a young goat or lamb or similar. Such gloves were softer and finer than gloves made from harder leathers, and so became a symbol of elegance and gentility in the early 1800s. The term “handle with kid gloves” thus means to be very gentle or tactful. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term was first used in that sense (or written, anyway) in the 1830s.

Around the 1850s, saying that someone “wore kid gloves” was also a way of saying the person was very dainty, a person who avoided any real exertion or everyday work–far more genteel and upper class than us folk.

The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms raises the very interesting contrast to “handle without gloves” or “take off the gloves” to mean harsh treatment, nitty-gritty, down and dirty. They suggest that “handle without gloves” was an antonym arising from “handle with kid gloves”; however, other sources suggest that “take off the gloves” comes from boxing, where the padded gloves soften the blow, so removing the gloves suggests rough treatment.

It’s interesting that the same expression should have come to be used in both the positive (“handle with kid gloves”) and negative (“take off the gloves”) sense. Etymology is a wonderful thing.

          • vyccan says:

Thanks, Dagian, I knew what the expression meant but didn’t know its ‘origin’. Sometimes when I pause to think, I’m amazed at some things I ‘know’, but can’t really explain to others, for example to my son who was/is really quite literal.

  65. Elizabeth says:

It does appear that she is running. I wonder how long it will be before the Republicans start throwing up. I suspect she will mostly campaign among her “rill” americans. That ought to do a great job of splitting the party wide open.

    • Lilybart says:

All we need is the footage of 2008…”Rill Americans from the Pro-America parts of the country” and just run it all the time and ask…does she think YOU are a Rill American?

  66. Sourdough Mullet says:

“almost in the can”…. Yes, that’s exactly where it needs to go!

On a serious note though, I forsee endless entertainment opportunities if she does indeed decide to run. Think of the fun that could be had at tongue-in-cheek “Wasilly Hillbilly Inauguration” parties. Imagine State of the Union Speeches where everyone has to take a shot of Jagermeister (Wasilla champagne) every time she says “You Betcha!” or “I’ll look into that and Get Back TO Ya!”. Heck, the Halloween party possibilities alone are endless!
Personally, I would be thrilled to see the stupid bimbo actually have the audacity to throw her (dunce) hat into the ring and run. It wouldn’t take long for her to be exposed for the fraud that she is and put in her place (most likely by the Republicans themselves).

As the lowest common denominator is relentlessly being fed to that part of the electorate, I fear the Palin Cultists. They share that Fire in the Belly syndrome of hatred of all who are, and all that is, differ from them. It will continue to grow, and the rest of us who have a modicum of logic and unemotional reasoning cannot overcome their “gut” reactions

          .

          • fromthediagonal says:

correction: different (missed that last syllable, sorry)

    • Lilybart says:

There aren’t as many of her fans as some in the media think. She has a cult, but they can’t instantly organize a professional campaign operation, as I have seen predicted in the media. Her fans are dysfunctional and uneducated and they can be made to go door to door, but frankly, if any of her crazy fans showed up at my door, I would call 911.

      • johnny says:

I believe that she is trying to become president without saying a word in public except through the hate rallies she is so good at. She is avoiding the debates, instead making a movie to rally the RW. She will not be questioned by anyone who is not pre-screened to only throw softballs, like Hannity and Greta. The sickening thing is that it may work. Glossy smiles, bumper sticker one liners galore. It may all boil down to what happens in SC.

        • vyccan says:

‘The sickening thing is that it may work.’

This is why I NEVER think of her (possible) running as entertainment! She is charting a ‘new’ path to national campaigning and I shudder to think she may get away with it. If I’m not mistaken she was the first candidate to virtually avoid the media in her last foray into the big leagues, but I seem to remember Sharron Angle and Christine McDonnell (or whatever her name was) resorting to the strategy in 2010. I can’t remember if they were the only ones, but there’s no denying that SP set a precedent.

One thing I’ve noted about her over the years is the mastery with which she deflects serious conversation with her ‘gotcha’ wails and her cries of sexism/victimization. Another thing is her proven ability to ignore the real dialogue and institute a dialogue of her own choosing (ex. V-presidential debate). I can easily visualize her not answering specific questions and directing her monologue as she sees fit. I can even see male opponents hesitating in their treatment of her so as not to be accused of being sexist.

It’s easy for us to say that she will have to engage with more serious interviewers than the Fox-ites, etc. if she enters the ring, but if we are honest we’ll admit they are not many good interviewers out there EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT INTERVIEWING the ex-VP candidate. How many interviewers do we see posing good follow-up questions or journalists doing good follow-up reporting right now? Remember (i) “Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!” ? (ii) John Ensign paying off his mistress and illegally providing a job for her husband? (iii) The town halls that show people were riled up about Paul Ryan’s Medicaire proposal [We saw an awful lot of them during the Health Care debate]? How much hard reporting have we seen on any of these? I’m sure you can list other cases where individuals or groups in politics have been allowed to slide under the radar. If the media had been doing its job effectively the country would be in a far better position IMO. I just don’t want to place too much trust in their being able to halt this woman’s hate filled rush to build up the divisions in America. When we assume that she can’t make it through because the media will stop her, I have my doubts, and I cannot watch her progress with any sense of amusement because for starters (a) she got way too far the last time, (b) she’s still around, now with ‘best selling author’ credentials – such a laugh, (c) she’s ruthless and lacking in any real love for country, and (d) she has money and a rabid base, and finally, I remember the 2010 results where for weeks I was left with mouth agape that American voters could be so dumb / lacking in perception / seriously clueless / ?…whatever.

And having said all of this – no, I don’t know what the answer is to neutralizing this potential disaster of a candidate, but this is one form of entertainment I will readily do without.

No, she quit because her family was becoming bankrupt from fielding off ethics investigations. You and I and everyone else who followed what really happened know that this is not true, she is referring to the complaints that she plea bargained by paying off huge fines to avoid litigation.

Trouble is that my first sentence is the easiest thing to believe, rings a bell with the “persecution of SP” fans, and you can betcha that a large part of her “documentary” will be devoted to trying to convince people of that lie…that the government of AK ground to a halt because of ethics complaints, and that the Palins were going bankrupt “defending” themselves.

Nothing. I can do something about taking care of myself, my family, and my cat during a tornado warning, but today I feel like I can do nothing to stop her quest for the office of President.
