Open Thread – Blind Allegiance on Firedoglake Book Salon Sunday

By Shannyn Moore

Wahoo! Who needs a Red Bull and a seat belt? YOU! That’s who!

Tomorrow, Sunday, June 5, Firedoglake’s Book Salon will feature Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin – A Memoir of Our Tumultuous Years.

I’ll be hosting the event, and you’ll be able to ask Jeanne Devon (AKM) about the book – the process, the content, the story-behind-the-story, or any questions about where the Palin bus is headed.

Just go to firedoglake.com on Sunday and join the conversation. We’ll be typing live from 1-3pm Alaska time (2-4pm Pacific/5-7pm Eastern)

Giddy up, Mudpuppies!

Just finished Blind Allegiance. Whew! Reading it was quite the ride. Can only imagine how it was to actually live all that craziness. The three of you wrote an important book. Glad you got your soul back Frank and thanks for telling your story.
The three main things I got from the book:
1. Sarah and Todd Palin are living in their own self-made Hell. Unfortunately, their children are the innocent victims of this dysfunction
2. The truth will eventually come out. All of it.
3. Frank, your wife, Janeen, is an amazing woman.

2. PennyArcade says:

CarolE, that is one scary article by Sinclair Lewis. I could not believe how many of them hit the nail right on the head of Sister Sarah. I doubt she is smart enough to realize what she is doing, but I could be wrong on that score. She may have this script down pat and know what she’s doing, but either one, it is one scary prospect.

3. CarolE says:

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross,” wrote Sinclair Lewis in 1935.

4. PennyArcade says:

Thank you Jeanne and Ken. I finished the book and while I appreciate Frank for finally waking up and smelling the Sarah Skunk Cabbage, I can never admire him as a person, but unfortunately, there are way too many gullible people like him who will drink her Kool-Aid, put on blinders and not listen, or read, anything negative about her.Yes, I do believe she is running and yes, I do believe she is one very dangerous woman. We all need to do all we can to stop her. I also want to give a shout out to KS Sunflower. I so agree with everything you said and I would be sick to my stomach if one dime of my book purchase price went to any right wing radical evangelical cause. So I’m glad Jeanne has put that rumor to rest. Thanks to all the Mudpups for your brilliant comments. What would we ever do without Mudflats?.

6. Califpat says:

Oh, I had been thinking how we could let the massives know about the corruptive antics of $arah Palin and her ilk and Krubozumo you have given me/us the key. We need to allow the obsessions of SP and her husband to be exposed! Remember when Bailey said that the Rag Tag team had put all the red signs all over Alaska, then we need to promote “Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin” all over the United States! In each of our cities, states, families, friends, we need to let them know that this woman is dangerous to this country! It will take us collectively to spread the word. I love the Mudflats but we are singing to the choir if we do not get the word out to our country that this yap dog has no clue about how to take care of America or how to take care of her family!! Thanks Krubozoumo for bringing this to our attention. Let’s show that Sarah Palin has no clothing on and has no truth in her, and that she does not care about America. I’m done!

• bubbles says:

oh i do agree Califpat. the fact of the success of the book can, i believe, be laid squarely on the initial efforts of the people here on the Flats. Mudflats folks broke the top 100% within twenty four hours just on pre-orders.

7. Bob Benner says:

I just watched Palin on the Chris Wallace show… She’s running… There’s no doubt in my mind… You can tell she’s been coached to sound like she actually knows what she’s talking about (she doesn’t but that’s completely beside the point)… This is actually a surprise to me… I didn’t think she would be stupid enough to try… But now it’s clear… The coo-coo Quitter Queen will announce she is running for 2012… What a dolt…

• Millie says:

She had the questions prior to the show and had the use of a teleprompter. She would never have spoken that well ‘off the cuff’.

8. Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

Pity, I see no post by Bubbles, I wanted to point her to my most recent reply in an earlier thread that I think relates here and certainly does there. I haven’t read this thread, though I am sure there are things that also related to the earlier thoughts expressed.

Mudflats is a small town newspaper published by a courageous and astute individual that was one of the spear heads of honest journalism that revealed not just the hollowness but the actual evil of the Palin meme. But its reach is still modest by comparison to the width and breadth of the propaganda that spewed by the main stream corporate media. Most people are passive about obtaining information, they want it handed to them on a silver platter, the simpler the dumber the better. They do not want to read for comprehension. They prefer to be told what to think over deciding for themselves what to think by evaluating reality. In the case of those who are destitute, desperate, suffering, beleagured, that is to some degree understandable. That is why the bubble burst not in 2006 or 2007 but when it was a certitude that a democrat would become president. Pull the plug on the economy. So far it has been orchestrated perfectly, millions are now far worse off than they were in 2008 and because they pay no attention to what happens or what happened they actually think it is because of the present administration.

Here’s a modest profile of the current state of the electorate. 60% or so of eligible voters will declined the opportunity or be discouraged or intimidated. Of the 40% remaining fully 2/3 will still be inclined to vote for their self interest but will be confused about it. At the moment the only problem the MSM claims is confronting us is the enormous deficit. Yeah, okay, not a good move to go into debt to the rest of the world to this extent, but hey, we are the largest economy in the world, and as such everyone else depends on us. They WANT us to succeed. The republicans are trying now to arrange for us to default on our debts. IOW put the whole country into foreclosure, this only three years after they destroyed the equity of almost every American citizen who does not cash in a few million a year from dividends and interest. Underlying all of this is the preposterous claim that it is the system of free enterprise that sustains economies. Well we have seen a very good example of that in the immediate past, and anyone who can tie their shoes should realize it is a lie. All the money in the world cannot half turn a single screw. All the money in the world cannot turn a shovel of earth, or plant a seed, or have an idea. Only human beings can do those things, money is not alive.

Yet the trend is to discharge to only that tiny fraction of people who have enourmous amounts of money, decisions that affect billions of people.

There is often made the argument that those lucky few, the top 0.01% who really pull the strings are somehow entitled to do so because after all they have all that money. Look at what they have done and what they are doing. That is the true meaning of the term entitlement.

This very thoughtful and cohesive little community is an enclave of reason in a great sea of confusion, fear and uncertainty. We should not spend out time reinforcing each other but awakening those who struggle under the yoke of lies. If we cannot save each other, we surely cannot save ourselves.

• Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

I wholeheartedly agree! That’s why I rarely post anymore – my anti-Palin energy is elsewhere. I don’t have the time to be both effective and whiny in my mission. Humor, clarity & ACTION! Blam blam, ring ring! It is up to us to change the single mind, and the many.

“Blam blam! Ring ring!” has become my new call to action from sis’ blog. We need to warn the country – everyone to their steeds and to their posts!

• Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

I miss you all, too. It’s a wonderful community!

• mike from iowa says:

Well said, but we still need reinforcement from each other or we might well come apart in the face of relentless lies. Right wing pols are insisting we still need to cut taxes to grow the economy, which has proven to be an abject failure under Reagan and Dubya, both. I would love to slap morons around that say the economy soured after Obama was elected. Our country is lethally divided and there are no statesmen or women in sight.

• Pinwheel says:

Repeatedly talking heads and pols show such confusion and despair about current economy in US. Solutions always seem to be cut, cut, cut. But don’t end, end, end wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is never suggested to raise taxes. How else can the situation be turned around without more money?

I know the concept of higher taxes is unpalatable but the disingenuous misdirection that lowering taxes more will increase employmennt, production, cash flow is proven to be crap. All who have benefitted the last 10 years from lower taxes, have taken the money and disappeared and left devastation in the vacuum of their own greed.

• bubbles says:

i am here Krobozuma. just quietly doing my job.
i am dealing with the loss of my ‘chosen brother’ Denys.
all of us whether chosen or blood relations are devastated. there are children whose mothers and fathers are gone; some into death others into prisons.
these younglings came to love and to depend on him and his wife Mary.
this was a Christian Gentle Man.
i would say to any who would claim Christ as Savior. the Holy Spirit of God does not rest on a kneeling man or woman and raise up a fool.
therefore i am not interested in fake epiphany. i don’t care where Bailey goes or what he does so long as he is not doing it to me and mine.
let him be head of his household he will never be head of my house. let him pay attention to his bed and stay out of mine.

17. ks sunflower says:

I hate to say this though I regret feeling this way. If Frank has been misquoted, then I will apologize and retract my remarks, but if his stated intent to donate his profits to fight legislation or laws that allow girls to get care without approaching their incest-rapist father or stepfather and to fight to make girls and women bear the children of their rapists, then I would not have bought the book. I would have simply waited to check it out of the library. I truly and deeply dislike to the point of anger of providing funds for someone to do what Frank intends to do.

In my opinion, Frank is not yet the Christian he thinks he is because a follower of Christ would not inflict such deep and abiding pain and suffering on a victim of rape. Does he really care so much for a fetus, a potential human, that he would be so cruel to a human already alive and struggling in the world who has been victimized by others, sometimes by the one she trusted most?

Good grief, Frank needs to step back from his blind allegiance to fundamentalist, anti-female dogma and get real. Does he realize that he is in a sense wanting to make it okay for his own daughter (if he has one) to bear a child of his should he ever rape her? I’m sorry, but it has to be put that bluntly to him. That is what some of these far-right jokers seem to want to effect. Would he really want his daughter, wife or mother to have to bear a rapist’s child? Really, seriously? It might be okay with him, but has he ever asked the girls and women in his life how they would feel about that? Has he given any real thought about how this amounts to emotional abuse?

End or rant. As I said, I am sorry to feel compelled to say all this, but if Frank really did say this was his intent, then I am sincerely sorry to have empowered him through even the small amount of royalties from my purchase.

I am more than happy to see Ken and Jeanne receive whatever percentage they get from sales, but I am disgusted that even a penny of my money makes it into Frank’s coffers to fund these cruel and misguided ideas.

I am hoping against hope that someone will pop up and deny that Frank ever said this is what he’d do with his share of the profits from the book. Please. I don’t like the disgusting taint in my thoughts that his purported remarks left.

• ks sunflower says:

BTW, a bit of the rant leftovers: why is it almost overwhelming MEN who want to pass these kinds of laws? Why is almost always male pastors, priests and theologians who think this is just a dandy interpretation of the Good Word that Jesus brought? (okay, now end of rant)

• benlomond2 says:

because we’re idiots !…………..:)

• Pinwheel says:

Remember the NOW bumper sticker: “If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament”.

• lovemydogs says:

I agree. Guess I will have to send PP and Natal another check to offset him.

• lilybart says:

I will be encouraging everyone NOT to buy this book now that I know what he is doing. I feel duped and angry that this was not mentioned up front.

Sorry, but you associated with him and a Liar for Jesus is never to be fully trusted.

Hope Frank knows how much money he will raise for Planned Parenthood now.

• Millie says:

If I understand this correctly, his profits are going to stop abortions of incest victims….I never should have purchased the book. I’m an incest ‘victim’ and I hate that word. It is what it is and I would have been the first one to obtain an abortion if I had become pregnant. The USA is a friggin mess and it is growing worse and worse. Is it really all about Christianity? Give me a break. There is NO god that would want a young girl pregnant w/her father’s child. And, she has every right to get rid of it!

• Forty Watt says:

I understand the immediate anger. At the same time, we don’t have any confirmation this is true. Phil Munger appears to be the only source at the moment and according to Gryph he thought it was in the back of the book somewhere although he hadn’t seen it himself or maybe it was in an interview…..

In other words, the one source can’t give us a citation. Might be best to wait and see.

On top of that, I have faith this is something AKM had no prior knowledge of.

• boodog says:

Unless I’m missing something, the video that supposedly has Bailey saying this ‘quote’ doesn’t say that at all. I believe this came from a comment on the FDL Book Salon. There was a link back to the video at Phil Munger’s blog. I watched it, but I didn’t hear that statement by Bailey at all. I’m sure AKM will clear this up.

• Cassie Jeep says:

I am devastated.

I bought the hard bound copy and I see NOTHING about the proceeds going to deprive victims of rape and incest their legal right to recourse.

Frank, you are wrong if you do this. Totally wrong.

I will have to dig deep, but I will counteract your “donation” with one of my own, directly to Planned Parenthood.

• lovemydogs says:

Maybe AKM can.clear this up for us???

• Alaska Pi says:

The allegation was made, no proof has been supplied so far.
it is time to take a deep breath and wait.
please.

• Forty Watt says:

What we know for certain is AKM knew nothing of this. There is only one source of this rumor and he can point to NO source of his information.

This remains an unsubstantiated rumor.

• seattlefan says:

Oh my….what a mess. Glad to know AKM knew nothing of this and am sorry she is taking flak. I’m disappointed in the source. Do we know that it was really him on the blogsite saying this or someone pretending to be him? Just thinking “outloud”.

• ks sunflower says:

I hope I made it clear that I wanted someone to clarify this. I am ready and willing to apologize if what I read was incorrect, but I read it first on the FDL Q&A.

http://fdlbooksalon.com/2011/06/05/fdl-book-salon-welcomes-jeanne-devon/

Comment #93. Edward Teller said Frank said this on the Dana Loesch radio program.

Comment #114. Thingscomeundone verified and added to Teller’s comment.

Comment #173. Jeanne Devon: “It’s none of my business where Frank donates money. It’s only my business where I donate money. :)”
[ks sunflower – that’s a classy response and just what we’d expect from our AKM.]

Comment#217. Shannyn Moore. “There are some people who NEED to read this book who agree with Frank’s positions. If they read it and have their eyes opened on the subject of Palin, I think that it’s great. If people don’t buy it because of Frank’s views, that’s entirely their choice. There are Palin books I won’t buy because I don’t agree with how the author operates. Choices are good. (Not that you asked me, ET)”

So, the implication seems to me to be that Frank did indeed say these things. AKM simply said, as is proper, it’s none of her business. Shannyn’s comments might support the statements by Teller if by “Frank’s views” she was referring to how he was said to have stated he would spend his profits.

I didn’t know who Dana Loesch was until I googled and binged her a few moments ago, but it seems she is a Tea Party pundit. She did indeed have Frank Bailey on her show – in two parts. I couldn’t find the first part, but here is the link to Part 2. I don’t have the stamina to listen to a right-wing pundit tonight, but here is the link to Part 2. I do not know if it contains the statements we are concerned about. That may be in Part 1. My apologies for not screening it advance, but it is late here and I don’t want nightmares.

http://www.971talk.com/Dana/DanaTV/View.aspx?PostID=39920

• AKMuckraker says:

Hopefully I have done so. See below.

• Where did this quote come from? I wouldn’t have bought the book either if I’d known that was Frank’s intention. That’s just wrong. I hope this is not true and that someone can clear it up.

• pacos_gal says:

There is no quote. There was a link to a youtube vidoe which did not show what it was said to have shown. Then there was a comment at FDL, where the person says, you could assume that his proceeds could go to that cause. Well, you could also assume that proceeds would be going to any democrat running against her if he is so afraid of her running for further office.
But you know how assumptions are, they just a make an xxx out of u and me. 🙂

Nasty buggers those assumptions. It’s actually misinformation and you can read this thread to see exactly how affective it is as a tool.

• Alaska Pi says:

Effective too 🙂

• ks sunflower says:

Please see my comment at 28.5.1.2.2. I did try to nail it down. Try going to the radio program in question and listening to both parts (which, I admit, I did not do as yet because it is very late here and I am very tired.)

• ks sunflower says:

It wasn’t in the book – or at least I did not see it. Please read my comments above and below to see why I posted my original comment at #28.

I was not trying to stir up trouble or spread rumors. I wanted clarification. As you can see by my two later comments, I tried to nail it down. Frank Bailey was a guest on the radio program Teller mentioned. I gave links to Part 2 of his interview as I did not find one to Part 1 – but then, as I said, I am very tired. I just did not want to go to bed until I clarified that I think the comments are based on that radio show and that there is a way to get to it.

Frank seems to simply be someone who has to think through his blind allegiance to his church’s dogma and how it negatively impacts women and girls.

If we find his comments were indeed made and were indeed as represented, then each of us must determine how to react. As I said, I am sorry any of my money will go to his causes if indeed that is how he intends to spend his share. However, I think donating to NARAL and Planned Parenthood is a terrific alternative to offset his misguided intentions.

Jeanne and Ken should in no way be held accountable for Frank’s views.

I think that this flare-up against Frank may actually boost sales amongst the uber-conservatives and fundamentalists so maybe Jean and Ken will benefit even more in the end whilst the pro-choice and health services organizations will benefit from our donations.

Of course, those donations in no way change any laws that have been or might be enacted, so those in Alaska and elsewhere affected by them will still have to fight against those laws and politicians who push to enact them.

• Pete says:

Teller, Phil LIED!!! I listened to the Dana Loesch interviews with Frank Baily. There was no discussion about profits from the book or donating to charity. I can’t believe Phil tried to use this interview to support his accusation. He was totally lying! Dana never talked to Frank about the topic of money or book sales. Hope that helps.

FYI Blind allegiance to Sarah Palin is currently on the NY Times best seller list, it’s charting in two different categories in the first week of release: Hardcover Nonfiction #13 and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction #16 🙂

• AKMuckraker says:

That rumor which was reported on another blog, and implied by that blogger on Firedoglake is not true, according to Frank. Frank says he has no plans to do that and that he never mentioned anything about donating to parental consent issues. He never mentioned the issue at all except to talk about the fact that Sarah committed to, and then was a no-show for a fundraiser for that issue. The question on Firedoglake at the book salon was the first I had ever heard of such a thing.

Ken Morris, on the other hand, is donating ALL of his profits to charity. You can learn more at kennethmorris.net He is helping disadvantaged kids, and veterans.

I plan to make my donation to Cook Inletkeeper, the organization which protects and defends the Cook Inlet watershed.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or if you want clarification about a rumor.

• ks sunflower says:

Thank you, AKM. I appreciate your clarification. That was my hope in my initial post – that you would be able to address this for us because the comments by you and Shannyn were unclear on the FLD site.

I do apologize for ranting about the subject because I feel so strongly about what’s happening in this country regarding issues impacting girls and women, particularly as regards reproductive rights and rape issues. I was venting my personal feelings as to how I felt if Bailey were going to do this. I do not take back those statements regarding my fury about politicians and those who blindly follow religious doctrine that cruelly targets females. However, if Bailey was misquoted or someone lied about his intentions, then of course I take back my statements as regards him.

Frank I apologize if you are innocent of the allegations but my anger still stands as regards the issues. You are simply no longer included in it.

Thank you, AKM, for understanding that I was trying to find information to clarify what Teller had said Frank discussed on the radio program and not trying to say it was a fact. I tried to use every qualifier I could to underscore that intent to discover what was true or not while venting my frustration over the possibility of its truth.

I am very relieved that Frank has told you this is not what he is going to do.

I hope everyone continues to recommend Blind Allegiance to everyone they know because its message and its proof are crucial to undermining the Palin phenomenon. The flare-up yesterday had nothing to do with the quality of the writing, the message or the authors. It had only to do with Bailey’s alleged use of profits from the book. Now that we know Bailey does not feel that way, we can all relax and continue in our quest to ensure that Sarah Palin does not become President, Senator or Representative and to work to undo the damage she has inflicted upon our country.

I admit, I have not listened to the radio show. I am content to take your word for this because I have long admired your integrity and talent. Time to regroup, move on, and keep our focus where it should be – preventing Sarah Palin and others like her from dominating our political landscape and acquiring power over us.

• Zyxomma says:

It is Bailey’s anti-choice agenda (and his determination to use his share of the proceeds toward that end) that has kept me from purchasing it. I would love to support AKM’s career, but rather than buy a book that will fund exactly the kind of politicians I’d like to keep OUT of office, I made a donation to The Mudflats, and will borrow the book. Sorry, Jeanne, sorry, Ken, but my principles are my principles. I understand why you worked on this book, and I commend you for it, but I vote with my dollars, and I can’t vote for an anti-choice, pro-rapist Alaskan. Enough of that kind of sh*t goes on in Alaska without my support!

When asked by Chris Wallace today about her presidential ambitions as she continues her bus “tour”,
La Palin insisted that her trip wasn’t political, then slipped up, saying “The response I’ve received along the trail…” Trail? What trail? The Appalachian Trail? Hmmm. Methinks she meant the campaign trail.

One of Wallace’s incisive questions involved Michelle Bachmann. He asked Palin how she differed from the Minnesota congresswoman. Her answer…wait for it… “I have many years of executive experience!”

Palin’s nose is stuck to the ground in pursuit of the almighty greenback dollar,a once thriving symbol of America that was forced to hide from ordinary, rill Mericuns because of people like Quitty. She has a shrewd nose because, well she’s shrew-like.

Now they’re trying like crazy to edit the Wikipedia page for “Paul Revere” to make it match Palin’s botched version of history.”

22. beth says:

Straight from the horse’s mouth:
“I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere,” replied Palin, a paid contributor to the network.

“Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have,” she added. “He did warn the British.” [Italics added. b.]

Oh, my bad…that’s what he *ended up* doing.

Because he was captured! He spilled the beans to his captors!

That was NOT part of the plan.

The plan was for him “to ride to Lexington, Mass., to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were marching to arrest them.” He failed in that — he was captured by the King’s soldiers and *couldn’t* warn Adams or Hancock! (“Palin: I didn’t mess up Paul Revere history” — http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110605/ap_on_el_ge/us_palin )

Holy Gee-Willikers — what the heck is she doing? Trying to establish cred as an expert on “Amuricun Foundational History” so she can write history textbooks for the State of Texas (nation’s) school system when her ‘tour’ is over?

I can see the section on it now: “Paul Revere warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.”

Gaaaak! beth.

–and I’m not too sure… did Revere warn the British that fateful night that all the “ringing those bells” in the world that *they* did, wasn’t going to take away the arms of the Patriots, nor would *their* –the British– making sure *he* was “riding his horse through town to send warning shots and bells” make that happen either? Her salad confuses me, at times. b.

She is a friggin idiot as I’ve said before. There is proof as to Bailey’s statements, but Palin edges far from those truths and calls him a liar. After Todd helped push Bailey in his bad behavior which he so readily admits. Far be it for Sarah and Todd to admit what they did and have done. They are liars and unethical. I canot help but feel for their kids – just imagine being in their shoes w/parents like them and reading all of this information being put out there daily. They have been horrid parents by bringing all of their children on stage all these years…Track a combat vet (a lie) – is Trig even her child (she shows no love or refinforcement of him) – Willow and Bristol obviously are troubled teeenagers (as was Track – school buses) and then there is Piper (the brat, but fighting for the loving and attention from Sarah as a ‘mother’ – of which Sarah has no clue what the term even means!

• Baker's Dozen says:

Well, as John Hancock and Samuel Adams were British citizens, as I recall, just in rebellion against their king, I guess he was trying to warn the British. But I don’t think he was tryin’ to tell them that they couldn’t take other people’s arms. And either way you look at it, lighting lanterns in the church did not ring the bells.

23. John says:

The Anchorage Daily News actually had the guts to correct SP today. She (once again) claimed to be an expert on oil and gas policy, and said that Alaska accounted for 20% of domestic production. Alaska is less than 3% of domestic production. But what’s a decimal point or two among friends?

• johnny says:

She said that during the VP campaign in 2008 and was roundly corrected, IIRC by one of the fact checking sites. So now, 2 years later she is still saying that. I guess cuz it sounds good.

24. Brian says:

I’m currently reading “Blind Allegiance.” Fantastic. In one sense, nothing we don’t know about Palin’s character. Sarah’s such an insufferable ignorant mean-spirited craptacular parent and person.

27. blue moose says:

Frank Bailey commented in one of his appearance’s that this idiot SP was smart?? But yet she has failed to prove she is smart. over and over again, and she then blames the media for her own stupidity. Always blaming someone else. It makes me question mr. bailey? SP is good at one thing bearing false witness….

• GeeJay says:

The fact that Frank Bailey worked for Sarah for as long as he did shows that he wasn’t particularly smart since it took him way too long to see through her vindictiveness and lies. He fell for the charismatic Sarah who is obviously not intelligent or well-educated. I found Frank’s book to be interesting and I’m glad he was able to get out from under Sarah’s influence by seeing and understanding what a dangerous person she is. I can’t help but think the current followers and supporters of Palin are similar to those who fell under the spell of Jim Jones (another charismatic person with followers who can’t think for themselves). At least Frank was able to quit drinking the Palin koolaid and correct the course of his life; hopefully, more and more of Palin’s followers will figure it out before it is too late. The most interesting information in the book illustrated how much more time and effort was spent trying to destroy Sarah’s “enemies” instead of taking care of the normal affairs of the state. Sarah is incapable of agreeing to disagree and then moving on.

• Madeline says:

It is obvious from the book that Frank Bailey is still in love with Palin and would sell his soul to be back in her good graces. I have had a hard time getting through the book because he continually paints her as this demi-god like figure. And no, I am not a troll. If you are really honest, I am sure some of you have a similar opinion. Why do you think this book hasn’t made a bigger splash? Because he left out all the GOOD stuff to protect his idol.

• It sounds like some of the things were left out for legal reasons. I do understand what you are saying, but it is very hard to fully admit that you hitched your wagon to a star that never should have been. And that is what I read. Frank Bailey, to me, sounds like a person who is still trying to sort through how he let himself be so taken in by someone who didn’t deserve more than five minutes of his time.

When we find ourselves in a position of trying to figure out how our loyalty and love was so misplaced, it can be very difficult to fully place the blame on someone else. I only have to think of the guy that I dated and almost married. I let myself be taken in, so it wasn’t all his fault. Yet to criticize him in the way I would like, I feel it makes me look even more foolish than I felt when I knew it was over and never should have been.

And I think in telling the story, it wouldn’t have made sense for Frank to trash Sarah all the way through. He had to tell what happened and what he did from the mind-set that he was in at that point in time.

• I’ll add that the only person I thought Frank was trying to protect was Bristol. Either that or he knew a different Bristol than the one we all saw and read about on facebook and watched on Dancing with the Stars. I still don’t see her as sweet and innocent and never will.

• GoI3ig says:

Sweet and innocent? How about knocked up at 16?

• Dagian says:

Maybe he does have a soft spot for Bristol in memory of the girl she was and the woman she could have become. Sadly, she became an even less substantive version of her mother.

• mike from iowa says:

I haven’t read the book, but it is not about Mr Bailey or the other authors,is it?

• AKMuckraker says:

I think it was important to tell both sides. I often get the question “How could you people have elected her?” It’s necessary to tell that part too. Don’t worry. By the end of the book, the blinders come off.

“Republicans ARE practicing seditious DEMAGOGUERY and anti-democracy OBSTRUCTIONISM intended to destabilize our economy for purposes of social, political and financial exploitation.

“Republicans AREN’T making a sincere effort to STOP the bleeding THEIR deregulated leadership and failed policies created. Instead, they’re using inflammatory lies and false accusations as a smokescreen to conceal their subversive agenda, which is to CAUSE the American economy to collapse so they can blame Democrats for the consequences of THEIR calamitous mismanagement.

“Republicans ARE preposterously professing that THEIR disgraceful political WHORING had nothing to do with the banking, real estate, stock market and employment catastrophes that resulted.

“Republicans ARE trying to hamstring Democrats to prevent them from repairing the damage caused during a Republican presidency enabled by Republican Senators and Representatives.

“Republicans ARE offering ridiculous arguments meant solely to disrupt and prevent constructive change. They’d rather create the suffering of American families than endure the political consequences of human-centered effective governance.

“Republicans AREN’T the LOYAL OPPOSITION; they ARE the ENEMY WITHIN whose mercenary priorities have eroded THEIR moral and ethical standards to the point that duplicity and betrayal have become their preferred modus operandi.

“It’s one thing to advocate conservative beliefs; it’s another thing entirely to willfully sabotage America’s government because a Democratic presidency would not be vulnerable to the avarice, fears and bigotries that have produced and sustained the despicable Republican anti-humanity corporatism and anti-Christian faux theocracies that are poisoning and crippling American society.”

33. I’ll miss it, darn. I have plans to meet my daughter and then with any luck, we’ll get to see our other daughter and her husband for dinner.

I just finished the book on Friday. I thought it was excellent. It was good to get Frank’s view from the other side of what we all watched and suspected and sometimes had confirmed. His is a very compelling story, even if a reader hadn’t followed any of the craziness around Sarah when it was happening. I felt very sad for him by the end. It’s not easy to find that someone you have respected and given so much of your time turns out to be undeserving of any of it. I’m glad he was able to get back to his former values. Some people get sucked into things like that and never get out.

So, thanks to Frank, Jeanne and Ken for the book. I’m still thinking about it and will for some time to come, I expect.

34. mike from iowa says:

Any question asked of Ms Palin goes over her head,so that must be the depth she answers in.

35. johnny says:

Palin on FOX news sunday: Palin says asking her about Paul Revere’s ride was a “gotcha” question. Says she “knows her American history”. Wallace lobs pure softballs. As Media Matters points out, the person who is responsible for the lie of “death panels” today whines about democrats that spin the Ryan Medicare proposal, which she says is the only way to “save” medicare for our “esteemed” elders. Wallace intones that she answers questions “in depth”.

• Bev says:

Answers questions in depth???
Me thinks Wallace then has no depth himself if he believes she has depth.

Are there those out there really afraid of her???
What hold does she have???

• johnny says:

The clips are on the media matters website. She does actually say that a reporter asking her about Paul Revere (while she was in Massachusetts, on the Freedom trail, with Revere’s house and other landmarks) was a gotcha question. Wallace fawned over her, did not ask followups, but I did like the part where she tried the spiel that it was not a “publicity” tour as one major FOX commentator had said. That little spiel was spun so loosely that it nearly floated away, and Wallace said nothing.

• She talks a lot, but that doesn’t mean that her answers have any depth to them. Maybe Wallace, like others, just gets lost in the word salad and can’t find a way out and thinks it’s because there is too much depth to the answer?

She doesn’t have a clue about American history. Even if she didn’t know about Paul Revere, didn’t she ever hear the poem that has been quoted whenever his name is mentioned? That alone would dispell the guns blazing and church bells ringing bit.

• johnny says:

She tries so hard to get the theme in there “second amendment rights”, that she spins a bunch of hooey that she herself gets lost in. What a sad and silly woman.

• johnny says:

She was AT the Revere memorial, the freedom trail, you’d think that she might have read some of the displays. Part of the advance brohaha over her tour, she was going to “educate” the American people on these important sites. And, of course, she apologizes “if I stepped on any of that PR that Mitt Romney needed.”

She just can’t help poking her finger in the eye of anyone substantial that shows up her own shallowness.

• Millie says:

In October 2008, Brown released a re-written version of the song entitled “The Ex-Beauty Queen’s Got a Gun” which parodies Sarah Palin and the McCainâPalin bid for election in 2008. Available digitally only, the low-budget recording has Brown singing new lyrics over a previously released karaoke version of the original song. As such, the prerecorded backing vocals sing original lyrics that don’t match the new lyrics.

The Ex-Beauty Queen Has Got a Gun
By: Julie Brown

Lyrics:

It was election year in the USA.
John McCain chose Sarah to save the day.
We were real excited,
what a maverick choice!
her only flaw
was that annoying voice.

Sarah Palin (SP): “Oh Hi! I’m Sarah Pain!”

She looked so cool,
with glasses and a gun.
just like a nasty
librarian.
she brought her kids
for all of us to see.
They even licked each other on TV.

It’s a little gross but totally adorable!

The crowd was cheering.
everyone was stoked.
It was like the whole convention
was totally coked!

(except for Joe Lieberman… douche!)

But when she talked,
I saw the country go to Hell.

And all of a sudden
somebody yelled:

“Look Out! The girl VP’s got a gun!!”

Everybody run!
The ex-beauty queen’s got a gun!
Everybody run!
The ex-beauty queen has got a gun!

“Is this really happening??
I don’t believe it!!”

Sarah’s smiling
and waving her gun,
sucking in Republicans
one-by-one!

Does the GOP stand for
gullible old party?
Can’t they see
she’s just Alaskan Barbie?

And poor pregnant Bristol!
I think I heard her shriek,
“Stop it Mom!
You’re such a freak!
Why do you think
I have a bun in the oven?
Do you blame me for getting some
hockey player lovin’?”

Everybody run!
The girl VP’s got a gun!
Everybody run!
The ex-beauty queen has got a gun!

Stop Sarah, I’m so afraid!
Don’t turn back Roe versus Wade!

She always get’s excited
when someone mentions drilling,
except the kind that gays do
then she’s really chilling.

SP: “Sex is just for guys and gals
the Bible clearly states
if you would just pray harder
God would make you straight!”

Some guy: “I swear I’m gonna slap that lipstick OFF that pig!”

How could people think
she’s the answer to their prayers?
She wants to pop a cap
in all the polar bears!
And what’s with all this talk
of her shooting caribou?
How could McNoBrain pick her?
Is he sniffing glue?

Everybody run!
The girl VP’s got a gun!
Everybody run!
The ex-beauty queen has got a gun!

You’re not that hot, I hate to be rude.
OK you’re better than Dick Cheney nude.

Last night I had a dream
that she became Commander-in-Chief!
McLame had choked to death
on a piece of un-chewed beef!

Then someone pissed her off.
was it Iraq or maybe Spain?
She said, “let’s nuke ’em all
’cause all ferriners are the same!”

Then she started bombing
France and Mexico and China!

OH MY GOD
She’s like Hitler with a vagina!

So then they started bombing back
and I crawled into the oval office
and I found Sarah under a desk…

(which is probably how she got the
nomination in the first place)

…and I whispered in her face

“Sarah, why’d you do it?”

She lifted her singed beehive
smiled and said,

“Oh gosh. I guess I did it for the children.”

“The children?
The children?!?
What do you mean you did it for the children? There are no children!! You killed them all, they’re dead!!! You didn’t do it for the children!!!!!”

Then I woke up.

And I thought,

oh God! This is like that story, that Christmas Carol, where the ghost of Christmas future was going to amputate Tiny Tim’s leg.

But we can still vote for Barack and Joe
and we’ll all be saved!

YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!

Unless we elect Barbie
and Grampy McSame!

OH GOD No!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This one applies to $arah’s grasp of anything more complex than bendy straws:

Song Lyrics:

I talk like a baby and I never pay for drinks
Don’t have to worry about gettin’ a man

‘Cause I’m a blonde, yeah yeah yeah!
‘Cause I’m a blonde, yeah yeah yeah!

I see people workin’, it just makes me giggle

Why should I bother when I look like I look?
I know lots of people are smarter than me
But I have this philosophy – So what?
‘Cause I’m a blonde, yeah yeah yeah!

I see girls without dates and I feel so sorry for ’em
‘Cause whenever I’m around, all the men ignore ’em

I took an IQ test and I flunked it, of course
I can’t spell VW, but I got a Porsche
‘Cause I’m a blonde, B-L-I-N-D!
‘Cause I’m a blonde, don’t you wish you were me?

I just want to say that being chosen as this month’s Miss August is like, a compliment I’ll remember for as long as I can. Right now I’m a freshman in my fourth year at UCLA, but my goal is to become a veterinarian, ’cause I love children

‘Cause I’m a blonde, yeah yeah yeah!
‘Cause we’re all blonde, yeah yeah yeah!

Girls think I’m snotty and maybe its true
With my hair and body, you would be too
‘Cause I’m a blonde, B-L… I don’t know!
‘Cause I’m a blonde, yeah yeah yeah!

That is hilarious and historically accurate(or not),doesn’t matter.

• Bretta says:

I watched her Fox interview with Chris Wallace:

She lied no less than seven times.

IMO she knows that she doesn’t know her American (or Revolutionary era) history.

She also knows that her base will believe, no matter what, anything she says, so insisting she did-unt make mistakes is the same as the Gospel Truth.

She’s been inhaling way too much “emissions.”

Let me guess:

The manufacturer in the article is a Christian?

• Zyxomma says:

They call their product “Midnight Rider — Servant of Yahweh.” YHWH (transliteration) is a Hebrew name for god. God’s people (Jews) were supposed to keep kosher: i.e. not eat pork, not eat dairy and meat at the same meal, not eat seafood without fins and scales, not wear linen at the same time as wool, etc.

I’m not familiar enough with Islam to know whether it’s just circumcision and the prohibition against pork that is shared by our two faiths (personally, I stick with the original prescriptions from Ezekiel, and eat only plants). But how lard could make one a servant of Yahweh is beyond me. Either this is some kind of sick joke or it’s taken seriously be X-tians who have no idea how to serve YHWH.

• mike from iowa says:

This moron makes the assumption that all Muslims are true believers and devout. That is like Muslims thinking all Christians are true believers. What rock do these people crawl from under?

I just saw Palin on Fox this morning sitting there in her Sunday white suit with a cross around her neck claiming that the things said about her in the book are lies and it is Frank Baily who has issues and he is the one who did all those unethical things .

• Sourdough Mullet says:

I’ll bet the camera cut away though, as soon as the crucifix started to smoke and burn the skin on her chest. “OH, the BURNNNNNN!!”

• dowl says:

Thanks for clearing that up for me–Sarah’s chest was red because of the sizzling cross! Perhaps she should have worn her blinging Star of David? Silly Sarah…

• GoI3ig says:

Like Frank says…..hook them both to a polygraph and see how the chips fall.

41. G Katz says:

I just saw part of Chris Wallace playing softball with Palin. Among other things, she claimed not to be worried about the emails coming out and accused Bailey of being her only employee ever to need ethics training. It would be nice to hear the other side of the story about that accusation. I don’t remember reading anything about it in Blind Allegiance, but I’ll go back and look for it. Wallace also seemed to bow to her on her version of Paul Revere. Argh!

• Bev says:

She said……..

Revere was warning the “British that were already there that ‘hey, you’re not going to take American arms, you are not going to beat our own well-armed persons individual private militia that we have.”

Excuse me, it was before the “Right to bear arms” at least a year before….Revere was not riding through the country side yelling and screaming….she must have seen a movie do that…too many idiots get their history lessons from Hollywood.
And Faux let’s her keep repeating the nonsense, and so does any reporter that followed her…they should have corrected her.
Gotcha question???? It is to laugh!!!!

• A fan in CA says:

This rewrite of history is a dog whistle to the NRA. It’s on purpose and she and Faux are sticking to their story. They are making a claim that the American Revolution was about the “right to bear arms”.

Remember these bots still think Obama is coming for their guns. They are still stockpiling and the gun and ammo makers are encouraging the rumor to drive sales. A classic marketing strategy by the underbelly of capitalism.

• beth says:

The ONLY reason Revere is remembered so ‘clearly’, today, is that Longfellow, 85-years *after* the fact, wrote a poem about that 19 April 1775 night and chose Revere (in a nod to convoluted familial ties) to be the hero of the fictionalized and romanticised account.

When the poem was published in 1861, Longfellow told people it was *not* an accurate accounting — that he was going for the art of the poetry, not the historical of the event. As the event actually unfolded, Revere was captured –and held– by the King’s forces, fairly early on, so he was unable to ‘do the ride’. Others, however, did. IOW, Revere was an extremely *minor* player in the scheme of things on the night of the 18th – he was prisoner.

In a continuation of her spreading ignorance, though, $P gives us the ‘American history lesson’ of what “HE”, Revere, did that night. Had she said “they”, meaning the Patriots, that would’ve been one thing…she didn’t.

I’m thinking she knows bits and pieces of the Longfellow poem, but doesn’t know it isn’t actual history. I’m thinking the bots are scrambling to try to make her look not *quite* as ignorant as she really is. I’m positive it’s a major fail, either way. beth.

• Baker's Dozen says:

Does she realize that the colonists were pretty much all British citizens then? We may call it a Revolutionary Wary, but at the time, it was a civil war over people’s rights.

• johnny says:

Maybe he got the training, but it was due to her and her husbands demands. And she was found to have violated the state’s ethics laws and her husband was held in contempt, but no, Wallace shouldn’t be expected to bone up on the facts. A couple of weeks ago even Lawrence Odonnell let Joshua Green get away with saying that Palin “had been an up and coming state legislator” (before running for governor), O’Donnell just accepted that. And a few days ago there was Mark Halperins back rub of Palin, explaining why she quit, using pure lies. I hope someone is sending corrections to ODonnell, et al.

• G Katz says:

Thanks for the clarification. I thought it must have to do with Troopergate, but I couldn’t remember for sure.

• GreatGranny2C says:

Johnny – I regularly send corrections/rebuttals/ean’t tc. to any that I differ with. I’ve never once gotten any response nor an acknowledgement that the mail was received AND READ. I did, however, on two occasions, received a notice that my mail was received AND DELETED WITHOUT BEING READ – from Morning Joe! The latest letter to O’Donnell concerning Halperin (several links included) was also CC’d to Halperin – no response there either. It would be nice if whomever reads the mail would at least click on received, even if they/he/she can’t be bothered to actually reply!

• John says:

He wasn’t the only one to *need* ethics training. He fell on his sword protecting Todd over Troopergate and was ordered to get training. So while it is accurate to say Bailey was the only employee ordered to get training, it is pretty obvious that there were others, starting with the half-term Governor, who needed training.

• G Katz says:

Thanks, I appreciate the clarification. I couldn’t remember the exact details. Maybe we need to send Mr. Wallace a copy of Blind Allegiance.

42. PollyinAK says:

I couldn’t wait for my pre-order, so I bought one at Costco to read right away (a couple of weeks ago). I loaned one to a friend, and I am going to donate the other to Loussac Library. I looked online and they have two checked out and one on the way.

• GoI3ig says:

You prove a good point. Why pre-order when you can get the book on the actual release date at the store? I grabbed mine and had it read before the Amazon books were delivered. I guess I’m old fashioned.

• My thoughts exactly. I never order a book on-line unless the stores aren’t carrying it. I have, however, reserved copies of books to pick up in the store (all the Harry Potter books, as it was the only way to get one – or more – at midnight). I meant to reserve Blind Allegiance, but was happy to find it on the table of new releases the first day.

43. DF says:

I’m almost done with the book! Will try to tune in.

and republicans alike. I think its brilliant.

• Nancy says:

After reading “The lies of Sarah Palin,” it is a horrifying thought that Sarah Palin could possibly beat Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election. I am shocked she has made it as far as she has in politics. She is totally in her own fantasy world with absolutely no regard for anyone around her. She has no conscience, no compassion, no knowledge and is filled with nothing but hate. I am anxious to read ” Blind Allegience.” I hope that Frank Bailey and others like him who have been betrayed by this vile b–ch can go on as many talk shows as possible to enlighten the rest of the public about the “real Sarah Palin.”

• Nancy1205 says:

I heard a scary potential election scenerio on CNN last week: If Sarah Palin becomes the Republican nominee for president running against Barak Obama and an independent, that if no candidate reaches the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, then the House of Representatives decides from the 3 candidates who our next president will be. Given that the House is filled with many “extreme right” representatives, it is terrifying that Sarah Palin could indeed become our next president.
