AKM, did you write and illustrate the cartoon? I didn’t see any other attribution, so I assume it’s yours. You are already a multi-talented writer and photographer, but to find that you also do graphic arts is the trifecta of creative genius. I am in awe!

Interesting little FAQ page for the Wisconsin elections. The trivia that’s been added is entertaining.

What time do the polls close? So we have “boots on the ground?”

  5. Zyxomma says:

Here’s a brilliant screed from Frank Schaeffer on Murdoch’s empire, and how so-called religious and spiritual people contribute to his sleazy empire:

    http://www.truth-out.org/how-rupert-murdoch-woos-christian-right/1310479644

“We can’t boycott every dubious corporation on earth. But with Murdoch’s sleaze-infested ambition to control the politics of so much of the world a reality a line’s been crossed. It is time to pull an “Arab Spring” on the whole Murdoch empire and overthrow it. And we of the outraged “street” can do it at last because so many political and media leaders, who have sucked up to Murdoch for decades, are running for cover.

I know it’s not considered polite to be judgmental but I’ll say it: to work for any part of News Corp, Murdoch, Fox and/or any or all of his companies, let alone to publish books with him makes you an accomplice to a very bad person.”

    There’s much more. It’s a fine read.

I went to town today to visit my banker and shoot the breeze and the subject of you know who came up. Just so happens my banker’s brother and his wife were in Pella,Iowa last week and just so happened to get some photoes of the Quitter and Tawd. That is one ubiquitous ex-half-guv of a large far NW state. My banker is one person in financial services that says outright that trickle down economics can’t work. You cut taxes you collect less revenue. It seems such a simple idea.

I have plans already for Thursday, but if you’re in NYC and environs, you may want to participate:

    Dear [Zyxomma],

Last week we sent more than 110,000 petitions from ColorOfChange members like you to Fox News chief Roger Ailes calling on him to fire Eric Bolling for playing on racial stereotypes when he accused President Obama of “chugging forties” in Ireland and inviting “hoods to the hizzouse.”Ailes’ answer? Silence.

So we’re going directly to the man in charge, Rupert Murdoch. This Thursday July 14, New York City-area ColorOfChange members will deliver the message in front of Murdoch’s 5th Avenue apartment building. The more of us there, the stronger the message, and the bigger the story in the press.

If you can attend, please RSVP by email at nyc@colorofchange.org to let us know. We also need a few people to volunteer to help us with set up. If you can also volunteer, please let us know in your email.

This is the next step in a campaign to force Rupert Murdoch to answer for his steady support of race-baiting on Fox News. Two weeks ago, ColorOfChange ran a full-page ad in the New York Daily News drawing attention to that fact that Murdoch has profited from a cable news empire that attracts viewers by ginning up race-based fear and resentment. Our demonstration outside his home will keep the pressure on by helping to continue a conversation in the media about Fox News’ race-baiting, and strong attendance will make our action difficult to ignore.

    Here are the details:

WHAT: Petition delivery to Rupert Murdoch
WHERE: Sidewalk across the street from 834 5th Avenue

WHEN: Thursday, July 14 at 12:00pm (event begins at 12:30)

News over the past week tells us that Murdoch will do anything for profits — using race to push an ugly agenda focused on driving us apart to wire tapping people’s homes.1

That’s why it’s so important that you attend if you can. If you are able, please join us and let us know by sending us a message at nyc@colorofchange.org.

    Thanks and Peace,

    — Rashad, James, Gabriel, William, Dani, Matt, Natasha and the rest of the ColorOfChange.org team

Murdoch’s empire is in damage control mode and the sharks are circling for a chance to sink their teeth into his backside. Now his US holdings are under scrutiny and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving chap:

  11. leenie17 says:

Okay, the Republican leaders have all just grabbed hands and jumped off the cliff together into Crazy Valley!

Boehner now says that all the spending cuts they’ve been demanding for months ARE their concessions for raising the debt limit (so, naturally, they don’t have to make any more, like that silly revenue raising). Naturally, Cantor is still insisting that NO closing of loopholes or raising of taxes will be acceptable so the word ‘compromise’ is obviously still taken to mean that Dems do EVERYthing that the right wants and the Repubs don’t do ANYthing that the Dems want. But, don’t forget, it’s the Democrats who are being unreasonable!

    http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/07/12/266693/boehner-spending-cuts-gop-concession-debt-ceiling/

Meanwhile, Yertle the Turtle McConnell has declared that, while insisting that Republicans will “do the right thing” and raise the debt ceiling, “I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is unattainable” So, I suppose that means that President Obama should just do the honorable thing and give up the Presidency so that these traitors can completely destroy what’s left of our country. He also recently repeated what he said several months ago, that defeating Obama was the number one priority of the Republican Party. Nice to know they’re so concerned about the other 312 million of us!

    http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/07/12/266711/mcconnell-debt-deal-unattainable-as-long-as-obama-is-in-office/

I am more and more convinced that the vast majority of the Republican party needs to go back to kindergarten where they will finally learn how to work and play well with others. They clearly didn’t learn it the first time!

(I read a comment on Think Progress that said the unbending position they’ve been taking for months has finally caught up with them because they can’t compromise or they will lose all credibility with their base. Interesting point, I thought.)

With conservatives showing themselves to be livid over the president’s attempt to seize the moral high ground on cutting the deficit, it’s worth exploring the real reason they’re so angry.

  15. leenie17 says:

Gee, I wonder what entertainment I will have from my kitchen window today…

Last night was a critter free-for-all around dinner time. The robins and sparrows were attacking my red osier dogwood bushes for the berries that have apparently made my yard the Happiest Place on Earth for the local winged and furred population. There was even a Northern flicker (which is SUPPOSED to be eating my ants instead) enthusiastically yanking berries from the branches. I suspect the berries, which are supposed to provide food for the birds during the winter, won’t make it past the end of July! The bushes have also become the favorite dining spot for the chipmunks and squirrels who have been playing tag around the yard for weeks.

A surprisingly agile and speedy groundhog (who knew they could move that fast?) was chasing a rabbit away from the weed patch it was munching in the central flower garden before amboling over to the veggie garden to see what he could nibble through the fence. The rabbit made its way over to the raspberry bushes at the edge of the yard where it was enjoying some fresh and fruity dessert.

A blue jay was squawking and dive bombing the yard before swooping into the big tree two doors down, and the local crows were gathering together in the treetops to caw and fly in attack formation, presumably to scare off the young hawk that lives nearby.

It was quite the busy night in my yard!

  19. jimzmum says:

Thank you, AKM. It is sort-of me. That is the perfect way to start my day here in the hot. Really hot. Good grief, it is hot. Did I say it is hot? I have to drive into St. Louis today because we are out of good cheese and that just is not bearable. Pathetic. Ah, well. I can load a cooler full of ice in my truck and stop at the book store on the way home! It is never too hot to spend birthday money on books, you know?

    • mike from iowa says:

For really good cheese you need to go to Wisconsin……and while you’re at it,how about a live update from re-call elections. I will be patiently waiting your reports and will remain,as always, deeply appreciative. BTW-how’s the livestock?

      • jimzmum says:

Livestock are good! The young hawk learned the hard way not to bother a nesting of sparrows the other day. I hope it took. He was harassed for hours. Haven’t seen or heard from Orson lately. Too hot.

Snakes are loving the weather. I am NOT loving the snakes. I am not scared of them, because we have no poisonous snakes up close to the house, as far as I have seen, but it is bothersome to have the danged things sunning in the driveway when I need to back out or pull in. Only have a few of them, and we are grateful to have them. Keep pests away. Because of the flooding, we are about over-booked with deer. They are healthy and seem to be happy. The fox kits are on the go, and life is good.

        • slipstream says:

I was rafting a few days ago and watched a mother sea gull chase a juvenile bald eagle away from her chicks. Unfortunately, her chicks were on the river downstream of me and I had to float through . . . so the sea gull dive bombed at me, circling, diving at me again, squaking all the time, and finally chased me and my big raft away. There’s a sea gull with some stories to tell around the campfire!

    • ks sunflower says:

Happy Birthday, jimzmum! May you have many, many more filled with good health and happiness.

        Happy (belated?) birthday, jimzmum!

        • slipstream says:

leenie, you simply must stop using slices of cheese as book markers.

          • leenie17 says:

Ya think? They DO seem to make the pages stick together, especially when it’s hot.

But, on the other hand, I always have a snack handy! 🙂

      • jimzmum says:

Thank you very much! I had a wonderful day.

    • leenie17 says:

Yikes! I just checked the weather for St. Louis and the temp is 95 but the heat index is 112! And I thought our near-90 temps today here in NY were bad.

Stay cool and safe on your journey…

    Love this! Thanks for posting.
I’m a webfoot currently residing in SC – today, even in the ‘cooler’ upstate, we’re supposed to get near 100 degrees with humidity near 100%, which will result in a heat index of around 105 or more 🙁
