Open “Thread”

Yesterday, I was able to capture a second-degree felony assault of quotation marks. The perpetrator is still being sought for “questioning.”

Dog fans, check out the pics on Rogues Gallery Kennel’s blog today. If you need a boost, these guys’ll give it to you!

They are running their first race of the season, in a race not planned (Tustumena 200), due to earlier circumstances beyond their control. This could get really exciting as Colleen is signed up for the Iditarod this year – if she places well here she will be closely watched in the big race.

They need race sponsors to keep going with their kennel on the island of misfit dogs. This is it – they need to place well and get a lot of attention! These guys are fantastic, and if you read backwards in their blog to learn about running a kennel – get some Kleenex. Dog racing is not going away, and having these guys display their fiercely compassionate work to a much larger audience, while making racing viable – their methods & ethics will help become the standard for all racing kennels.

    Go Colleen & Team RGK!

I am giddy with excitement after reading this article!

“On Thursday, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) received a complaint from an environmental group with accusations that the proposed Keystone XL pipeline’s owners (TransCanada) are in violation of SEC Rule 10b(5) – Employment of Manipulative and Deceptive Practices to bolster stock prices.” The SEC has confirmed that they are actively considering an investigation.

And who is smack dab in the middle of this sleazy mess? Crier of the House John Boehner. He has threatened to hold the payroll tax cut extension hostage, tying its passage to the approval of permits for construction of the Keystone XL. Problem is, Boehner has invested quite a bit of money in several energy companies whose profits are directly tied to the pipeline. As an investor, he would be privy to the ACCURATE estimates of jobs to be created by the pipeline construction which, by TransCanada’s own reports, are substantially lower than those being promoted daily by the GOP. They also estimated the probability of an environmental disaster to be “a near certainty according to TransCanada.”

Boehner could not only face ethics charges, but could even face criminal charges for misleading current and potential investors, which is a violation of SEC regulations.

    And still they lie…

I just got an e-mail from a Viet Nam vet, that the Patriot riders will be here. They will take care of them. Bless them.

I think the Supreme Court erred in a major way by supporting the Westboro “Baptists” (parenthetically, I used the quotation marks because I do not think that this is a church in any but the most legalistic sense.) right to free speech. I think the right to practice your religion or mourn the loss of a family member or friend (at a funeral service or at the graveside) trumps anyone crossing state lines to incite hatred. That is not what freedom of speech is about at all.

      • leenie17 says:

Freedom of speech is certainly important and, as much as I cringe when I see some of the hatred spewed at our President, I do support the right of those ignorant racists to be…well…ignorant racists.

BUT…there needs to be limits. When one person’s free speech is used to terrify and cause unimaginable pain to another, that’s where it crosses way over the line. It’s no longer free speech, it’s harassment or incitement to violence or hate crimes. And that’s exactly what the slime from Westboro is doing.

We are so fortunate to have groups like the Patriot Riders who do their best to spare the families any additional pain beyond what they are already forced to endure through their losses.

If you believe in hell, you can be sure the entire Phelps family will be residing there for eternity.

Elizabeth Warren appeared on Last Word and discussed Romney’s tax problem with Lawrence O’Donnell. She very succinctly explained to Lawrence why the current tax system that allows Romney to pay a 14% tax rate is so unfair. And she did it in about 30 seconds.

“Some people may think there was nothing amazing about what Warren did, but consider that she managed to gut the entire premise of a presidential campaign in less time than most campaign ads run in. ”

I suspect that woman has a brilliant political career in front of her and just may be our first woman President. And I, for one, would be delighted! 🙂

    THE KISS OF DEATH:

The Palin Factor. Some D.C.-based establishment types were preparing to reconcile themselves to former House Speaker Gingrich, if not outright endorse him, before or after the South Carolina primary last week. But according to one such insider, who asked not to be identified because of her prominent corporate lobbying role, Gingrich fatally said on Jan. 18 — three days before the primary — that he would offer former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin a “major role in the next administration if I’m president.” That one statement scared the accept-Newt, Republican-establishment types. “That sure did it for me, and I think for a lot of other people in town,” the lobbyist said.

  7. Buffalogal says:

On a similar note – Last night Palin worked her unique flare with our language and repeatedly used the word “subscribe” in place of “ascribe” , continued her use of the word “pundent” and forced in a “via” where it was clearly not called for. Her word salad was more salad-y than in recent weeks. Only a matter of time before it occurs to her to start using “air quotes” , all willy nilly.

    • lisa says:

Yep, the air quotes are next! In all their glory the ex-quitter governor will place them everywhere. I find her word salad annoyingly cloy. It is amazing how many equally grammatically challenged idiots I’ve met who think she is intelligent — “a breath of fresh air.” It makes my skin crawl.

  8. COalmost Native says:

Sorry for you, Mag the Mick. Perhaps the fact AZ brought us Gabby Giffords balances Brewer the Skank and that nasty sheriff .

    Maybe not 😉

    • bubbles says:

Brewer should thank her god that Michelle Obama wasn’t with him. she might be missing the use of that finger right about now.

      • leenie17 says:

Have you SEEN the muscles in that woman’s arms??? I would NOT want to be caught by Mrs. O givin’ her husband any disrespect!

  9. Mag the Mick says:

As an Arizonian, I’m feeling a little ashamed to present myself today, after the unfortunate incident with the hag and the cool guy two days ago. Sometimes, it’s difficult to keep trying to justify to myself why I even stay on here. I will not stoop to apologizing for Brewer, but want to tell everyone else that we are deeply ashamed of how she treated our President.

    • carol says:

Yeah, well at least your governor had the “courtesy” – yes, I did that on purpose, to go to see the President; our governor didn’t even give the office of the President that courtesy when Obama passed thru Anchorage (forget the year). Parnell was busy and his LtGov (who was a member of the military) didn’t attend either. Expletive Deleted. I’m working to curb my cussing. Might help if I quit watching the current state of politics.

    • bubbles says:

this is for you sweet Mag. weep no more. this a picture titled Contrast in Arizona from Democratic Underground. now look and smile.

Anyone whose eyes didn’t get a little misty watching that hug at the SOTU should check to see if their heart is still ticking!

      • Mag the Mick says:

Thank you, dear Bubbles. I reposted it to my Facebook page.

    • BeeJay says:

Second that, Mag. What a “sorry state” we’re in when a governor does that. Of course, it was Jan… 🙁

Say it with me: Quotes are not bold!

Hardly the only case in town though; I think the post office (on 8th & Ingra) has a pretty egregious example as well.

      • leenie17 says:

Or, at the very least, gather some mudpups for a visit and bring some homemade cookies!

Hey, Slip – do you prefer chocolate chip, oatmeal or snickerdoodles? 😉

  13. Baker's Dozen says:

I wonder if the “perp” “reads” your “blog?”

I would be embarrassing to see the sign you posted right up there at the top of this open thread, wouldn’t it!

Bet they’d never let on it was them, though.

  14. Baker's Dozen says:

Oh, dear, oh dear. You forgot some quotation marks:

Yesterday, I was able to “capture” a second-degree “felony” “assault” of “quotation” (” “) marks. The “perpetrator” is still being “sought” for “questioning.

My biffie in the hospital room had the same light problem, but no one had to advertise it on the door. Keeps the ghosts and nightime creepy-crawlies at bay.

Proof that America is going to hell in a hand basket.

    http://www.infowars.com/obama-accused-of-contempt-of-court-in-birther-hearing/

I think people like Donald Trump should be held accountable for starting all this crap– and he can take his Mop with him~
He lied when he said he had people going to Hawaii to “investigate”. Now he needs to apoligize to our President.
The Reps don’t have much faith in the voting system. If they can’t beat him at the poles—-they will find other ways to get rid of him—-short of shooting him.
How sad are Americans that don’t appreciate living in a FREE country.

    • Baker's Dozen says:

Georgia has gone right over the edge. If this were a Republican, they wouldn’t be holding these hearings.

Furthermore, they should be charging the people who bring these suits for all costs associated with them.

As Obama’s mother was a citizen who had lived in the US more than 5 years, he is a natural born citizen, no matter where his birth took place. He could hail from Mars and it wouldn’t matter. Funny how the birthers never bring this up.

And, since his mother’s citizenship isn’t in question, why does the court allow this to go forward?

      • Lacy Lady says:

As my friend said—they are still fighting the Civil War.
        Or—want to start another one.

      • tigerwine says:

“Georgia has gone right over the edge.”

Hey, Lady, you are talking about my state – and I totally agree with you!

    • leenie17 says:

Some of the comments after that story are truly frightening. The fact that the people who wrote them are allowed to mingle with society and breed should keep us all awake at night!

I’ve been reading about this hearing and I understand that the type of judge presiding over this nonsense does not even have the authority to subpoena the President, who is also protected by laws that prevent him from being sued in every hick town court for absurd charges that have no merit. I believe that the only body that can legally compel the President to appear before it is Congress itself.

Can you imagine the kind of chaos that would ensue if any local judge could require a sitting president to appear in court to answer charges brought by an irate citizen? He’d spend all his time in court, being harassed by ignorant, racist idiots who think they have a legal case.

      • Zyxomma says:

As we say in The Forum, :agree: (I don’t care that the emoticon won’t show up here; Forum participants know exactly what I’m talking about).

      • tigerwine says:

Leenie – you are right about those comments – scary!

    • mike fom iowa says:

In Mississippi or maybe Louisiana, a rwnj lawmaker wants to make it illegal to wear pajamas in public. I live year ’round in pajama pants, They are pretty and darn comfy. The legs stretch over leg casts and some have cartoon characters on them. The hurses seem to love them. It is either me or the pants and my money goes on the pajama pants.

      • Really? says:

Several years ago a friends daughter was sent home from our local school (k-12) because the principal said the school did’nt allow pajama wearing in school. When my friend went to pick her daughter up, she took the mail order catalog into the school with her that she had ordered the “pajamas” from. She showed the catalog to the principal. The pajamas were classified under “loungewear” . After the principal saw the catalog he realized pajamas and loungewear were apparently 2 different “things” and my friends daughter was able to continue wearing her “loungewear”.

    • Lani says:

Reality check. There was no contempt of court. It’s not even a court proceeding. It’s a minor complaint about a primary ballot, held before an administrative law judge, to gather evidence. The proceedings were recorded and are laughable. The ALJ has no power to issue and enforce subpeonas, nor to issue any order, for that matter. Just to gather evidence and express an opinion to a higher authority. The White House and the attorney for the Georgia Democratic Party quite rightly refused to be drawn into a birfer circus.

  17. Forty Watt says:

Wow, I wonder who said “automatically” first. I like to know whom I am quoting.

    • leenie17 says:

      The lights?

If I hear the fluorescent fixtures talking to me as I enter the rest room, I’m turning right around and finding another place to use the facilities! If they start singing to me, I’m doing double-time out the door!
