Open Thread – Technically

The optimist says it’s half full.
The pessimist says it’s half empty.
The engineer says the glass is the wrong size.
The opportunist drinks it while the others debate.

And the physicist sees it like this…

a little wigged at the moment – took 1/2 day off to go to sentencing of murderer of local 7 mo pregnent store clerk today. I played softball with this guy for 8 years, and never suspected he was capable of this type of behavior.. He got Life without parole for murder of the woman, 15 to life for murder of fetus and one year for use of rope to strangle the young woman. He had his final statement, denying the charges, blaming the police for targeting him due to rumor he was having an affair with victim. Her blood was found in cab of his pick up, rope had his DNA on it, asked his then wife to lie for him on his whereabouts for a two hour window on specfic day., and lots more… no doubt in my mind he’s guilty, deserves even worse (death penalty would not shock me for this crime) and is a sociopath…. but still sobering to actually BE THERE and watch and hear sentence being passed, and realizing a man will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Thanks to being on God’s Own Party’s email list, I found out more about Dominionist discrimination in the Air Force. Here’s the link to the entire letter sent to Mikey Weinstein at Military Religious Freedom Foundation:

    http://www.militaryreligiousfreedom.org/2012/03/seeking-help-from-the-mrff/

I was horrified (but unsurprised since my eyes are open).

And then you’ve got the hyped-up Eeyores amongst us who’ll look at the glass and megaphone in a full-blown fright: “OMG, the #*%#^ thing is going to tip over and we’re all going to drown!” beth.

As an engineer, I would say the glass has a safety factor of two.

I’m off to try to find that link or other info. What city are you in ? ( this feeble brain forgets things )

      Ok, three things (maybe more)
      1. Cat Welfare here in Columbus is sending me an application to fill out. App fee is $10 and $10 for each cat. They will link me with a vet.
      2. Apparently, momma cat had her kittens in the garage last night, so now I will have to trap her then dig up the kittens from behind an old cabinate to get them all inside. Trying to find a trap I can use.
      3. They will also let me get some of these male cats neutered in the meantime, but I will still need a trap.
And one more thing. My stalker cat has returned and flowed me all over the yard today. We spent about a half hour sitting 4 feet from eachother. He is one handsome devil. Used to belong to the rednecks across the street until one of the unsupervised grandkids body slammed him into the kiddy pool. Ran away and never went back. Do you think if I trap him, he would like to stay after he gets fixed?

      • Buffalogal says:

You might want to contact these people and ask about renting a trap. Usually you can give them a deposit of a few dollars and you’ll get it back when you return the trap:

        http://www.colonycats.org/aboutus.html

Also, do a google search on ” feral cats columbus ohio” and you’ll see a few other projects that might be helpful .

I think if you had stalker cat neutered and you release him back in your yard after, I bet he’ll stick around if you put a bit of food out. The feral folks will probably give you some good tips.

I’d also ask them the best way to handle the momma and new brood situation now that she’s had them already outside. A feral mom in protection mode can be a scary thing. When I said that the one I was helping tried to rip my face off, I meant it literally. How I still have my left eye is beyond me.

        Good luck !!!

        • merrycricket says:

I will call them tomorrow. Wish I had brought this up much sooner. I might not have kittens in my garage right now if I had. Oh well, thanks for the links! You are awesome!

      • mike from iowa says:

I sure as hell wouldn’t want to stay after that.

I’m so gonna drink that water today! Sunny and dry. I have more stuff to put in the garden today. It’s time for carrots, peas and beans and the next round of salad greens. I have some phone calls to make to see if I can get some help with a feral cat in my garage that is about to have kittens. I’m willing to trap her and put her in a spare room but I will need to be as to get the kittens vaccinated and momma spayed. Then I need a way of getting them placed. I hear that our local cat welfare might be willing to assist with that.

    • Buffalogal says:

In Western New York we have 2 projects that help with feral cat spaying. They’ll do the spaying of momma and babies for $10 each, which includes shots. I do believe there’s a website that gives contact info for similar projects through the US. If I can find it, I’ll post the link.

I had a similar situation 2 years ago. Momma kitty ( meanest danged thing you’ll ever meet ) had her kittens in my house ( the 4 hour delivery was live blogged right here on Mudflats. ) Managed to place 2 of the cuties with my stepfather but the other two never made it out the door. One of them is batting at the cursor right now as I type. Momma cat still has access to a closed off room in the house if she needs it. Not entirely sure why I do it though. She tried to rip my face off the day before Christmas. Seriously…. SUCH a mean cat!

PS: Your talk of gardens, carrots, peas, beans and greens makes me springy happy. I’m placing my reservations now for the Merrycricket salad bar. yum!

No- send it to Colorado to fight the fire in the Denver foothills. we’ve had no moisture in March, usually the second snowiest month- will be the driest on record. And smack up the side of the head with a 2×4 anyone who denies climate change. 🙁

I just LOVE our SCOTUS……oh dear, what impact will Obamacare have on the insurance companies,,,,,, no mention of the 30 million REAL US citizens who will be affected if they strike it down,,, guess we know who they view as citizens now…..

I drove to the library today. I had a hard time getting in the parking lot because the entry lanes had not been plowed all winter. I needed to get by a bus. It did not move. It was in a turn lane, and there was no entrance lane due to unplowed snow. In my town now, it is illegal to sit on a sidewalk, because that might make someone walk around you, but it is alrighT to let snow sit on the sidewalk and not allow me to have access to essential citity services.

    • mike from iowa says:

If you WERE able to get to the liberry and you CAN read, you might just LEARN that sidewalks are supposed to be kept snow free, for safety reasons, and then you might just wish to badger elected officials who don’t want to be badgered. So watch out for rwnj pols and the “Stand Your Ground” law when you protest.

    • Pinwheel says:

I have observed the same conditions all winter. Unfortunately Library has done a terrible job of keeping access safe. Remember how proud Dapper Dan is of his excellent care and repair of public facililties like one mile of the Coastal Trail. He is also the one who closed a whole branch library and cut the budget for LL. Such integrity! !!

Can I just borrow it to dump on Sully’s head? That weasel is driving me nuts with his “logic” on voting against prop 5. He claims it isn’t needed because discrimination against gays doesn’t exist. If that’s the case, why is he worried? Nobody will ever have to rely on the change to the law.

Why can’t he just admit that he’s one of Jerry’s homophobes?

    I can use this.
