    Amazing shots. Thank you.

Bubbles is back home, safe and sound. 🙂 Other mudpups in harm’s way have also checked in, together of course with zyx, so sighs of relief.

I’m hoping everyone is now accounted for. I can’t say I’m not hoping we get power back soon, but it’s such a small thing compared to what others are dealing with, I feel a bit guilty. (Is that a Democratic personality trait?)

      Thanks Forty!
Hoping all East coast Pups do ok as things get sorted out in the coming weeks . Glad to know Bubbles is home .Whew.

      Happy that Bubbles is s&s.

We, in central PA, had trees down, basements flooded and 24 hour w/o power (unfortunately long enough that 40 quarts of russell’s famous tomato sauce,-made from organic Amish tomatoes and basil,-thawed and had to be trashed). The tomato sauce loss is NOTHING compared to what our neighboring states have endured.

While we were not supposed to be in the immediate/worse danger of Sandy, we followed the Red Cross and FEMA’s advice – we had both of our cars gassed up, had water and non-perishable food for several days, had batteries and sources of light, made sure our gas fireplace was in working order, made sure we had propane for grill. We were ready, and could have been ok for a week or more – fortunately, we didn’t have to. We do the same when we are faced with a PA blizzard. So this is routine for us.

Having trouble getting my head around those who are now complaining about needing food/water/gas in areas that were in evacuation zones – when they chose to not evacuate or prepare. I had the same week notice that they did. I heeded it.

Perhaps Sandy will be the storm that convinces the “powers that be” that climate change is REAL and convinces citizens to heed the warnings.

I just got an email from 350.org. Bill McKibben said it should have been named Hurricane Chevron or Hurricane Exxon, not Sandy. I agree.

  3. Beaglemom says:

Whenever I see photos of those who are helping everyone get their lives back together after a natural disaster, I want to shout “thank you” to the unions: firefighters, policemen, linemen, gas works people, nurses, EMS workers, and on and on. These are the best of us who work tirelessly to put lives back together. Hurrah for unions!

  4. Zyxomma says:

Wow. Thank you, C.S. Here in the east village, our lights are back on. I didn’t run out of food, and we had running water, safe to drink (although, of course, I put it through my 5-stage filter first), and gas to cook. Now all we need is heat and hot water, but we can wait.

Thank you, FEMA, National Guard, and President Obama, for taking care of our neighbors who are truly in need.

Eff you, Bloomberg, for making it all about business.

    • Ivan says:

You live in a capitalistic consumption country laboring under the false pretense of democracy.
it is all about business. The whole economy is is based on consuming more and more, there is no
economy or economic growth unless we consume more. It is the foundation of both political party’s
( the only difference being that democrats believe in helping those less fortunate and the republicans believe that if you cant help yourself you are not worthy of help or even equal to them). this whole narcissistic election campaign has been about ; who is going to help me.

there is NO recovery from this disaster unless its business as usual.
( The “economy” is a house of cards, it will fall , start over and fall, start over and fall. Ad infinitum )
