Well, I’m late to the party (two days of food prep because the bf and I share the feast day with the omnivores), but I am eternally grateful to AKM, Shannyn, Linda, and the entire muddy community worldwide. Tikkun olam shalom.

Check out the Frontiersman Sunday about The FBI and the milkman – Got fraud?
Looks like Sarah will be the turkey…gobble gobble…

She will not leave. She will move to her “other” home in Arizona just long enough to establish residency and throw her hat into the ring for John McCain’s senate seat when he retires at the end of his term. The only thing that could screw that up would be his resignation or death. Because of the way Arizona votes, EGADS, she would probably win. Oh Lord. Here is one Arizonan that fears that outcome … Tell me I’m stupid and not to worry… Hope all had a happy holiday.

I’m late to this thread but grateful all the same. Happy small business saturday! My mother and stepdad were still in town this year so I got to spend thanksgiving with them for the first time in many years. They leave for Bradington Florida today to spend winter. 🙁 They were delayed this year by my stepdad having a pacemaker put in and TWO auto accidents. So I am grateful they are still with us and mom allowed me to cook the turkey and stuffing. My DIL is starting to really show and I will be channeling my dearly departed grandma Lou and sewi.g a classy maternity dress for her to wear for their 10th anniversary dinner next month. We had a wonderful time picking out a pattern and material for the dress. If you are friends with me on Facebook, I’ll post pictures when it is done. My love to you all!

I think it’s funny that the Sarah Palin comedy episode about pardoning the turkey is now getting the same time slotting as the brilliant WKRP episode about the turkey release promotional gimmick! Just where Sarah Palin belongs.

Thanks for so many things my tired fingers and eyes will not make tonight. Mostly for the great mudpuppies I have met or gotten a chance to have contact with.

Lots of hugs and warm wishes from this tiny spot in this great state!!

Well THE AUNT or auntie arrived in early Sept. and hasn’t left.
As I write she is using the last of the frozen blueberries for a fresh breakfast pie.
Meanwhile, my sewing room has had a makeover. O.M.G.
I can whip out a child’s Kuspuk in under 2 hours. With time for tea, made at the tea station, included in the “makeover”. Go ahead drool. I am.
The kitchen has turned into a disaster area. Big whoop. It wasn’t finished anyway. Auntie has threatened to “let the kid loose with a few cans of paint”. Knowing auntie, the 6 yr old is going to turn “kitchen designer”, by the time “baby Jesus is born.”
My hubby says “auntie is a jewel” and he is (for once) right.
    Like auntie says “gobble, gobble”.

Post-feast from the family reunion in the Carolina foothills: mama and daddy, all their grands, sisters, spouse, one BiL (the other is in China with his NGO doing sustainable agriculture/forestry work, flies home tomorrow). Much laughter and storytelling and music and all kinds of card and board games (mama is the Queen of Uno, daddy is King Cribbage, and I rule at backgammon), football on teevee, frisbee in the field… fine family fun.

DH Happy has First Nation roots so Thanksgiving, well, we count our blessings and eschew the whole Manifest Destiny/Black Friday connections. But it isn’t Thanksgiving for Happy and me without Arlo Guthrie and Alice’s Restaurant, so here you go:

Many thanks to AKM for this wonderful community she has nurtured here on themudflats, and to mudpuppies and hushpuppies one and all. You bring so many blessings to my life. Quyana. Toda raba.

    with much love,

I was taken aback this summer when I met a fellow Jew and asked, “Tribe of Abraham, eh?”

She spat back, “NO! Tribe of David. Jewish with no use for the Islamists!”

“Father Abraham had many sons, ” said I, shaking my head in stunned disbelief and walking away.
Bigotry knows no boundaries these days. See Stonekettle Station for a righteous rant about that.

Rabbi Arthur Waskow of the Shalom Center says,
” As we thank the One Who is the Breath of all life for our own lives, may we recall with grief those bearers of God’s Image who have been killed by other bearers of God’s Image; may we recall with sorrow and rebuke those who do or command the killing; may we recall with thanks and hope all those who are ever trying to make shalom, salaam. ,

May the new cease-fire lead to a long-term truce; may the truce give time for compassion to flower where there was fear and rage; may compassion give rise to a firm negotiated peace.

And for each step we walk along the way, each breath we breathe that celebrates the One Who breathes us all, may we give thanks tomorrow, and beyond.”

Here’s a link to a Prayer for All the Children of Abraham if you are so inclined:

      Blessed be the peacemakers.

After seeing this video again, I am glad that it is late in the day, and we have had our turkey dinner! Whew!
It has been a great day—–but would be more perfect if medicom had not gone out on us— we will not be able to watch football tonight. No service until 11:00 pm tonight! UGh!

  11. Krubozumo Nyankoye says:

No particular feasting down here in the tropics. I can’t even declare a holiday because no one is working for me any more, well, almost no one. In a more primitive society one might think manifesting thankfulness would involve some form of sacrifice. Just saying.

The tradition is coiled up pretty tightly with the religion, so it tends to alienate me. But there is nothing wrong in my view with being aware that on balance we tend to do better over time if given a fair shot. For that we should thank each other. It is our community that makes possible overall progress, better outcomes, and less suffering.

We only have this little planet on which to forge our future. We are testing its limits.

We can grow up and become responsible and careful custodians of our slim margins of survival, or we can resort to some form of delusional conviction that everything will be made right by magic.

    Take your choice.

  13. Forty Watt says:

Happy Thanksgiving to all. And many thanks to you, AKM, for everything.
