Recounting the Vote

Just when you thought it was over, it looks like two close races will be counted again.

Ah. Ah. Ah.

Senate candidate Bob Bell from Anchorage has requested a recount of his race with Hollis French. Bell lagged by 54 votes, and Senator French wasn’t surprised by the request, saying he’d probably do the same thing if the situation was reversed.

[Side Note: I finally figured out why the name Bob Bell rings a ... well, you know.  Bob Bell was also the name of the actor who played Bozo the Clown from 1960 to 1984. I'm not necessarily saying that means anything. You can draw your own conclusions.]

And in Southeast Alaska, the hotly contested race for House District 34, including Sitka and Haines also looks set for a recount. Incumbent House Rep Bill Thomas, who last week called his opponent and the apparent victor in the race “an A-hole” says he’s “99.9% sure” he’ll ask for a recount. It’s unclear what the mitigating factor is that leaves a .1% chance he won’t ask for one. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins leads currently by 34 votes.

Definitely puts truth to the adage “every vote counts.”

If they have projects or “objectives” to follow they will cook the books and French will lose…if French is smart he will put a team of voter officials there to make sure Bell doesn’t pull a fast one…but what happens in Alaska stays in Alaska…

Here’s hoping the outcome doesn’t change.

My hope is that there was very carefly original counting of the votes so there are no surprises.

The true personality of Mr Thomas has been shown due to his loss and that cannot be dismissed. Mr French has done for this state and his loss would be one for all of the state, not just his district.

What were voters thinking to vote for Bell? What are they called, low information voters?

  6. Alaska Pi says:

Here’s hoping the counts stand as they are now.
All of Alaska needs Mr French.
    And Southeast needs Mr Kreiss-Tomkins.
