Beautiful! Reminds me of the first time I ever saw the Northern Lights. We were living in Bethel, and were sound asleep, living on the FAA/Weather Bureau compound. No one locked their doors back then, and we were awakened by one of the WB gals, who had just gotten off shift, saw the Lights, and came in through the back door, boots pounding all the way into the bedroom. We had to get up, swath ourselves in our parkas and stand out on the back porch in minus weather and see the most glorious sight we’ve ever seen. I always think of Kathy whenever the Northern Lights are mentioned.

So. . . the moral of this story is. . always share the beautiful things in life.

prediction – we “fall” over fiscal cliff, and THEN republicans vote for middle class tax cuts… so they can say they did NOT vote for taxes on the rich and famous…. the American Public will NOT be fooled by this tactic… except of course, the 47% that voted for Mitt…

Link to lengthy article in today’s(Sunday/12/30) Pittsburgh Post-gazette: Controversy follows former judge Pozonsky from Pa. to Alaska

Contains a lot of new-at-least-to-me details of the tangled relationship of Pozonsky & his 2nd wife to Alaskan politics. When State Police Commissioner Kopp resigned after a report of sexual harassment complaint against him surfaced, his sister, the “deeply religious” Mrs. Pozonsky “wrote the governor (Palin) following his resignation, begging her to restore Kopp to the state’s top police position, according to an email obtained by media through a Freedom of Information Act request and hosted on the website of the investigative research company Crivella West.”

“You’ve had several prominent Alaskans call you in defense of Chuck,” she wrote in the email, ticking off the name of a mayor and two state senators, “but yet your [sic] chose to ignore their advice.”

“Though Mr. Kopp was not rehired as the state police commissioner, the family maintains its political cachet. He now serves as the chief of staff for Republican state Sen. Fred Dyson, a friend of their late father. His wife, Trish Kopp, co-owns Wild Alaskan Salmon with Mrs. Pozonsky.”

Speaking as a Western Pennsylvanian, I opine that our loss (the Pozonskys) was NOT Alaska’s gain.
Thanks for the lovely video of the northern lights. I had such an exciting and wonderful visit to Alaska when one of my kids was reporting for KTOO in Juneau. I wish all Mudpups wherever they may be a happy and healthy and peaceful new year!

  5. Beautiful! I thought when we moved to Seattle that I would see the Northern Lights, but after 32 years, I’m still waiting. Too many clouds, too many city lights, too many tall trees in our neighborhood. So, your wonderful photos seem to be as close as I’ll get to seeing them for myself.

    Thanks. 😀

Fantastic. Thank you. It is so hard to explain Alaska. This will help me to explain the unexplainable. Marvelous.

I am livid over a local story. An online newsletter, in response to Newtown, has published an interactive map of all the pistol permits in two NY counties. Click on a dot; find the name and address (even apartment numbers!!) of a licensed gun owner:

    http://www.lohud.com/interactive/article/20121223/NEWS01/121221011/Map-Where-gun-permits-your-neighborhood-?gcheck=1

My prediction is that the response to this will be a crime wave. Lots of break-ins, the breakers-in looking for guns. I don’t understand how any publication could be that completely irresponsible. A Republican lawmaker was on yesterday’s TV news, calling the article boneheaded. I couldn’t agree more. A high concentration of these pistol permits is in Yonkers, a short drive (or train ride, for that matter) from NYC, where it’s nearly impossible to have a licensed handgun. What were they thinking?

That was stunning! I have good news! I am gainfully employed once again and finally back in social services! I am working at our local Jewish Family Services assisting others in their job search and referring to services for training and emergency financial assistance. I started on the 17th and have been busy getting up to speed. I am thrilled to have thus opportunity to get back to helping others. Many of you have been very supportive, loving and encouraging and I just want to take a moment to say thank you! I love our little community.

We call them them the heavenly dancers. I haven’t seen the Northern Lights since I left home. Lovely.

  12. Beaglemom says:

Just beautiful. The only time I’ve ever seen the Northern Lights was a summer night in the Philadelphia suburbs in about 1960. I was babysitting, the parents came home very late and we all stood outside watching the sky filled with incredible streaks of color. When I got home, I woke my mother up and we both watched from out front yard.

  13. Kerry says:

Simply stunning. Thank you for this!
