Here’s to Auld Lang Syne!

auldlangsyne

As the waning moments of 2012 slip away, and we are faced again with a new 365 days of potential, we here at The Mudflats would like to wish all of you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2013. We’d also like to thank you for ‘auld lang syne,’ which literally means “old, long, since.” If you’re not Robert Burns, or another 18th century Scot, it means “days gone by.”

So, know that wherever you are ushering in the new year, we here at Mudflats Central are taking a cup of kindness for our days gone by with you, and looking forward to meeting whatever comes our way in the year ahead. Buckle up, and cheers Mudflatters!

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a wearyfoot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

May 2013 bring you love, health, peace, prosperity, longevity, and joy. No ‘wonderful life’ clip for me, thanks.

Obama ordered a pay raise for congress. WTF is he smoking?

    • John says:

I believe that if he gives a pay raise to executive branch employees then Congress is also automatically included. Congress has to vote to exclude itself from the raise. I don’t believe it is the President’s fault that the law was written that way. It gives Congress an easy out, and puts any President in a tough position. Take the blame for raising Congressional pay, or take the blame(credit) for not increasing employee pay. My guess is that most federal workers could use a pay raise. Unfortunately, it is probably percentage raise which means the highest paid people (who need the raise the least) get the largest dollar increase.

Hi, Mikey! There should be “strings” attached to that congressional pay raise, like no more 3 day weeks, and half days don’t count!. A while back, they published a list of the hardest working folks in the Senate and House. It’s funny, two Dems that have been in trouble made the list: Rangle and Wiener. I happen to like both these guys, and was delighted to see, that, as far as someone thought, they earned their paychecks. FYI, the list seemed evenly divided between Rs and Ds.

  3. Happy New Year to all!

I’m not sure what kind of year 2013 will be, but we had an interesting start. After watching the fireworks on the Space Needle on TV where we were nice and warm, we stepped out on our porch to see the fireworks in the neighborhood – and we were locked out. No keys, no cell phone, no hidden key outside, windows apparently locked better than we even knew. While hubby tried getting into the locked window and looked for the hidden key outside that wasn’t there, I went to our neighbor and rang her bell. No luck, the dog barked once but she didn’t come to the door. I wouldn’t either at 12:20 am. I walked around the corner to a friend’s house.

By then Terry had tried the door for the fourth or fifth time and found that it wasnt locked after all – it just catches and he didn’t press hard enough. I guess it’s a good thing that we didnt follow my first suggestion of just breaking a window and crawling through it.

We will start the year by having some extra keys made and making sure our neighbor has one and we find a good place for one that we can find in the dark.

So, Happy New Year, and peace, love and joy to all.
