Recall Lindsey Holmes Meeting Sunday
They say elephants never forget. Donkeys apparently don’t either.
This Sunday will be an organizing event for the effort to recall Rep. Lindsey Holmes. She’s the one who ran as a Democrat, raised money from Democrats, joined in on fundraisers with other Democratic candidates, garnered campaign workers from a thinly stretched pool of Democratic volunteers during a busy election cycle, and then decided to become a Republican before she was even sworn into office. The price of her political soul? A seat on the finance committee. Not a co-chairmanship, a SEAT.
While there are Democratic legislators who choose to caucus with the Republicans for one reason or another, no one has had the brass to thank the Dems for putting them in office, and flip them off while doing it by a total defection to the other side. Rep. Holmes said she hoped people would just get over it.
In keeping with her mantra of disregarding voter intent, she’s been voting in favor of new regulations that would roll back a voter initiative from 2006 on cruise ship dumping regulations. Her new party has been hard at work trying to allow cruise ships to dump heavy metals that affect salmon and other seafood, human waste, and gray water into Alaska’s near offshore waters.
Her district is not just getting over it. A full-fledged recall effort is underway, and there will be an organizational meeting this Sunday, February 17.
Here are the details from the Recall Lindsey Holmes website:
“Recall Lindsey Holmes” will be having a planning and informational meeting on February 17 at 2 PM. The meeting will be held at the home of Colleen Murphy, 2811 Illiamna Ave. There will be a number of items discussed at the meeting. Here is a quick rundown:
Progress Report on our latest activities.
Kickoff Event planning
Call for volunteers
We will discuss our activities over the last two weeks – we have gotten a lot done! We will also be discussing our big kickoff event on February 23 – a week from Saturday. We are planning a rally and press conference in the morning and we hope to start collecting our first signatures later that day. We would really like to have a nice crowd for our kickoff – we expect that the press will be out in force, and we would like to have as big a crowd as possible. We could really use your help bringing your neighbors to the event, and also bringing people out from District 19 to sign our application petition.
Please spread the word about the meeting… We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there on Sunday!
There is also a Recall Lindsey Holmes Facebook Page which you can “like” to stay in the loop.
In the meantime, Rep. Holmes is hopping an Alaska Airlines flight to Anchorage this very evening and will arrive back in her home city at 9:30pm. She’ll be here to “meet with constituents,” although she hasn’t announced which constituents, nor where this constituent meeting will be.
