XL Pipeline Profits More Important Than Environment – by Steve Horn for Desmosblog

In a major ruling that’s flown under the radar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit – based in Denver, Colorado – decided not to grant the Sierra Club and Clean Energy Future Oklahoma a temporary injunction on the construction of the southern…

I’m not an engineer, so this question springs from the depths of my ignorance – what are the reasons that diesel-fueled automobiles are not pursued more vigorously in the U.S., generally speaking? Also, why is it so very difficult to develop diesel engines that can run well on biodiesel? Are there specific standards regarding biodiesel or does it vary widely throughout the country in its formulation, quality, etc?

I know that the diesel engines of passenger cars & trucks of the ’70’s were dreadful (*cough cough*) in many ways, but I was under the impression that they’ve improved vastly since then. The ones that I’ve compared side-by-side with their petroleum counterparts (same manufacturer, same model, different fuel for engine/different engine) certainly have better EPA estimates.

I have noted that Isuzu issued a statement at one point backing their diesel engines (trucks) regardless of whether the fuel was B5, B10 or whatever. How can they do that if it’s a money-loser for them overall?

Thanks to all who will take a swing at this question. I’m not trying to stir up an ideological argument, or pit engineers against one another.

The Tenth Circuit is infamous for decisions such as allowing Hobby Lobby to avoid fines while it continues to pursue its case against ACA- wanting to not pay for care it religiously opposes, like birth control.

Time for two retirements- although Congressional Republicans will delay new appointments as usual.

Err…that TransCanada business deal is crooked as a dog’s hind leg…first of all our Grifter Granny handed them 500 million dollars of money that was not “State of Alaska” and belongs to another…birthright owner…
so now we got this big push by the Retardicans to disrupt the government and cause problems? Well as the President put it “potentially huge” is no where near what will come about full face when this cats out of the bag!
they can yap in one hand and shat in the other…what goes around comes around…peoples before profits now!

Looks like it’s time for some monkey wrenching.

So Obama stands in front of a pile of oil pipeline pipes with holes in them and people wonder if they are gonna leak? What, have I got stoopid written all over my face? Then two rwnj appointed judges place foreign korporate profits above ew ess citizens rights to have a clean and safe environment. That was a no-brainer.Rethuglicans view the environment as an impediment to making their wealthy friends wealthier. A lot of this comes from Raygun’s sagebrush rebellion days when nutters tried to give away all our resources to their friends.
