Open Thread: Hollis Runs for Lt. Governor

State Senator Hollis French has thrown his hat in the ring for Lt. Governor – running withย Byron Mallott.

Earlier this week Bill Walker announced that his running mate would be Craig Fleener. So I guess that ends any chance of the Bill Squared ticket.

So, Alaska – what are your thoughts? Waiting to see? Or are you preparing your check books to get this thing started?

It is amazing what one can learn from watching the “boob tube”. Just today I learned that god is female and she hates me. Yup. I turned on the telly to watch the Lone Ranger(the only show I watch religiously) and danged if he had just got done and Roy Rogers was coming on. Yesterday they had the show times reversed. Someone’s gonna pay for this. Someone got a mild expletive I can use that won’t offend gentle posters?

I have recently commandeered the term “buggered” from the British. ( I hope they don’t realize it’s missing) As in “Well, I’ll be buggered” or “Get buggered”. If you can say it just right, it sounds slightly off-color and at the same time terribly proper.

      • beth. says:

        {I think buggery isn’t such a ‘mild’ offence or expression, fishingmama…ask Oscar Wilde; I’m pretty sure he’d say it’s quite serious. beth,}

    • benlomond2 says:

I use the words “Sugar Plum Fairies”… especially around children… unless of course, I’ve REALLY smashed my thumb with the hammer…. all bets are off then… ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Alaska Pi says:

My Pop would not swear in front of his lil girls and used to say cheese-and -crackers! which came out more like jeezncrackers!!
When youngest sibling asked him what jesus crackers were Pop switched to oh, horsepunky!, which while more colorful had no religious sounding bits.
He did say Damn! once. Our roof had just blown off in a storm with 100+mph winds , rain was pouring into the house , and my mother, who NEVER got flapped, was crying .
I still think Pfffttt!! is THE all purpose mild expletive myself…

The bustards on telly switched the Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers around on me again. Now the Lone Ranger is on at 4:30 Central time instead of 3:30 CST. Confusion reigns. I planted two or three extra rows of Kennebecs for my neighbors up the road. They like white spuds, but don’t like to mess with them. My red Pontiacs had scab, but I eat it anyway.Snake gourds spent last night staring in my living room window. Today they are safely ensconced in basement and I have set my blonde girlfriend on a chair with a trigger string attached to basement doorknob, just in case. Since it is only about fifteen feet from my head,I’m sure I will hear it go off. I nominate Alaska Pi and potato humanitarian of Alaska in perpetuity and Beth gets first runner-up,just for being there. Anybody heard from benlomond 2 lately? Don’t suppose he fell victim to his de- hydrator?

    • benlomond2 says:

still here,,,,very busy at work, ( keep your eye open for Lockheed ADAM video at the end of the year) and I doubled up on college classes this session.( five weeks session). If I can hold the pace, I’ll be able to FINALLY get formal degree by end of spring… chuckle.. that’s what I get for changing my major from Physics to civil engineering when I was younger ! added up what I have, and i’m 10 hours OVER the needed amount, it’s just all the wrong stuff! Trying to beat youngest to that degree… The Great Race is ON!
Dehydrator works great got the first batch of plums dried, gave them to the guys at work ( I use human guiena pigs for food) and went to pull more off the tree…. and they were GONE ! found FOUR raccoons that nite, up in the tree getting the crappy ones,, I now have two beautiful raccoon caps, just like Davy Crockett… so Package to Alaska will only have plum jam from last year, some grape leaves and refill for Pi’s Special Present Dispenser.. I sent a bottle of wine last year, and from what I understand, there’s a new baby in the house now, so I won’t be sending THAT again ! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Alaska Pi says:

        Missed you here ben !
Sending best hopes and wishes for you finishing school before the youngest does!
Parents have to to beat the kids at something!
        ๐Ÿ™‚
Mudpups in Juneau love your special care packages- will pass on a BOLO to other ‘pups.

      • mike from iowa says:

Bully on you,Ben. Your country needs your services. Please try to engineer some civility into rethugs in general and t-bag nutjobs in particular. As for wine for the baby, stretch a nipple over the open end of the wine bottle and baby can figure out the rest. No problem. Good to hear from you.

        • benlomond2 says:

chuckle.. you can see what we’ve accomplished already ( I’m just a small part of the team) by searching” lockheed adam you tube..”..

          • mike from iowa says:

That was so cool. Problem is after this past week them nutjob bastards aren’t flying so high. Anyway,I hope the see the light(laser) before you vaporize them. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. mike from iowa says:

    (L) Just practicing.

  4. Really Hollis? says:

Dude you are suppose to run for Governor – not Lt. Governor…and who is suppose to be the main man?
Still time to change the mix…

  5. mike from iowa says:

Mikey finds it peculiar that the “pro-life”party has tried every trick imaginable to abort Obama’s baby-the ACA.

  6. Elisabeth Brennan says:

Why no mention of Bob Williams (Valley Math teacher who is former Teacher of the Year in Alaksa) who announced this past summer. He is an excellent choice also for Lt Gov.

  7. Alaska Pi says:

    mikey-
I don’t know why because normally I’m not prone to such foolishness but the image I have of your basement full of drying snake gourds brought up all the ghost stories of my kidhood ๐Ÿ™‚
And now I’m wondering if you have a secure lock on that basement door to keep them from slithering into your winter quarters…?
We haven’t had frost yet either though it is overdue.
Mountains have termination dust on tops , leaves on the few deciduous trees we do have all blew away in gusty storm last week, and decidedly fat lil bear and I have been meeting almost face to face almost daily the last 2 weeks. So far we have both retreated rapidly in opposite directions each time.. I am hoping it gets dang cold ASAP so the lil booger will go to bed for the winter…

    • mike from iowa says:

I don’t have much of a lock, but my blonde girlfriend is stoked to the tonsils with 3 inch, number 4 shot, high brass 20 gauge ammo and she is comforting to have handy for varmints. These snakes don’t have fangs yet and aren’t nearly long enough to encircle Mikey’s roly-poly self to crush me. I will also have some apple gourds for them to nosh on before they come for me. At least I don’t have bears to fool with. How did your spuds turn out? BTW-my yard grass is just as green as can be and we still have numerous robins hanging around. Even the local deer are hanging around. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Alaska Pi says:

Spuds were pretty good- 4 varieties, good yield. Some scab on my favorite variety this year- doesn’t happen often and bums me out but happy with em by and large.
What has been really fun has been hearing (and seeing) about the results of all the potatoes which came of my Spud Fairy venture this year ๐Ÿ™‚
Picture a lil short caped old lady prancing round town dropping 5, 10, 15, 20 lbs of seed potatoes off here and there and showing folks a way to grow them in tiny spaces… well. I rilly wanted a cape but I kept tripping on it and had to leave it home. Dang.
Anyway- lots of spuds all over my part of town for lots of people!
Especially happy about daycare outfit who had kids help grow and tend a garden and young couple with 120 sq ft of space who grew tons of stuff ๐Ÿ™‚ and soup kitchen which feeds clients good healthy fresh food .they grow .

It hit me at work today what foolishness was rumbling round back in the nether regions of my head- Bill Cosby’s “Chicken Heart “!
You watch out for those dang snake gourds!

        • beth. says:

I totally heart that there’s such a magnificent thing as a Spud Fairy in our world, our dearest Alaska Pi, and I head-over-heels mega-heart that it’s you! Caped or not, your spud seeding campaign puts a smile on my face and on my soul. beth.

(Did I mention that in many, many ways, your get-up-and-go is an inspiration to us lazy-bone slug-a-muffins? Well, ’tis. For that, I thank you muchly. b.)

        • benlomond2 says:

boom-boom….boom-Boom… the chicken heart…Boom-Boom– that ate New York City…BOOM Boom- and now .. it’s coming BOOM BOOM to eat YOU !!! BOOM-BOOM !!…..AAWWKK!!! Start spreading that Jello !! !!!

      • benlomond2 says:

still mowing away here too, an hour trimming dang hedges… I think I’ll see about inventing a plastic hedge.. pick a height and just hose it down if it get dusty..

    • benlomond2 says:

don’t worry Pi, you don’t have enough meat on your bones to make a worth while meal for the bear!

  8. mike from iowa says:

Way back in about third grade,I remember a story with the moral. “Never associate with a wretch who in the hour of need, ever deserts a friend.” Watching Steve Lonegan face the cameras and admit he lost Palin’s Senate seat without her there, reminded me of that moral.

  9. Alaska Pi says:

    Oy.
Not very sure what I think about Mr Mallott, have enormous respect for Mr French, not impressed with Mr Walker on social issues, need to know more about Mr Fleener, can’t stand the opaque, paternalistic administration of Mr Parnell, can’t stand the slimy self entitlement factor I see in Ms McGuire, the ANC Dan ? urg!!!

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57607931/government-shutdown-debt-ceiling-vote-interrupted-by-house-stenographer/

Longtime House stenographer dragged out of the House and taken to a hospital for an evaluation. Should have taken the t-baggers along for evaluations, even though the public’s evaluation of them is nearly rock bottom. Oh,btw,Slipstream is buying.

    • Alaska Pi says:

      holy moley!
maybe it is because she was talking to a turned off mic?
The elected tea cake goofballs always make sure they say such silliness to a hot mic…

    • slipstream says:

And just how would tea baggers recognize that someone is crazy, anyway?

Hey, wait a minute, mikey . . . . I thought it was your turn to buy? Well, if it is my turn: barkeep! butterbeers all around!

      • mike from iowa says:

        I’ll bite. What is butterbeer?

        • Bob says:

Not a beer drinker, but I think Butterbeer sounds like something Harry Potter ordered in that pub with his friends.

        • Carol says:

Harry Potter series, they drink butterbeer. You can make your own with cream soda and butterscotch flavored syrup, or cream soda and butterscotch flavored schnapps. Not bad stuff.

          • mike from iowa says:

No offense, but I honestly believe I would rather get married again as touch that stuff and I am a confirmed for the rest of my life-bachelor. Cream soda-Phooey!!

        • slipstream says:

          $2.75 a glass, or $14 for a pitcher.

  11. mike says:

I’ll keep this post simple, I’m voting for and supporting Byron Mallott and Hollis French it’s that simple.

  12. Who is Hollis For?

  13. Zyxomma says:

And speaking of NJ, and since this is an open thread, I want to share with you the email I just got, from Cory Booker’s campaign for Senate:

    Dear [Zyxomma] —

I just got off the stage at our victory rally here in Newark, and before I go celebrate with family, friends, staff, volunteers, and other supporters who made this incredible night possible, I wanted to send you a quick note.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for not surrendering to cynicism about politics. Thank you for believing that better things are possible — and thank you for believing that we can make them real if we work together.

I also want to take a moment to remember a great New Jerseyan and a great American. Earlier this year, Senator Frank Lautenberg passed away. He served his country during war — the last veteran of World War II to serve in the Senate. He was an entrepreneur who built an international company from scratch. His tireless work in the Senate positively impacted the lives of millions of Americans.

Tonight’s victory means that I will have the privilege to finish out Senator Lautenberg’s term. It also means we’ll have another election next year for a full six-year term.

So let’s celebrate tonight’s achievement. We earned this together. And as we celebrate, let us recommit ourselves to continuing our work and bringing even more people together to serve our nation. Even with our great history, I believe our best days are ahead of us.

Thank you for being on this journey with me,

    Cory

    • Zyxomma says:

Btw, it’s my opinion (as well as the opinion of pundits of varied political affiliations) that this special election took place today, and not next month, because Chris Crisco, I mean Christie, was afraid of all the Dems turning out to vote for Booker. He believes they’ll all stay home in November and he’ll be re-elected by an overwhelming margin.

  14. slipstream says:

And in New Jersey, Cory Booker was elected to US Senate, defeating Steve Lonegan.

That’s funny — wasn’t Sarah Palin just in New Jersey, campaigning for Lonegan?

Oh yeah. That would be Sarah “My Endorsement Is The Kiss Of Death” Palin.
