Oyster Roundup – Cool Pope, Crazy Cruz & More

walrus_carpenter_oysters

Thick and fast they came at last, and more, and more, and more!

Gather round little ones! It’s time for a cool half-dozen slurpable

newsy bites on the half shell.

Pope Francis

We Heart the Pope

There goes that Pope again, giving Christians a good name. Sarah Palin noted, with some consternation that this Pope is sounding kind of “liberal” and her verdict is still out. While the former half-term governor of Alaska “does her homework” and figures out that Jesus was a liberal, the Pope turned his ire toward corruption. Take heed governments around the world and the Vatican. AwesomePope is not pleased with you, and says “the corrupt should be tied to a stone and thrown into the sea.” Say hi to the fishes most of Alaskan politicians!

News from the ARK

Speaking of the fishes, there’s news reported by “WickedLocal.com”from Gloucester, Massachusetts – a venerated old fishing town from back when the Atlantic had them. They report the surprising news, that Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and some Senator from Arkansas is actually out there urging congress to approve $150 million in fisheries disaster funding. What’s the deal with THAT?

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday sent a letter with 37 other members of Congress, led by Senators Jack Reed, D-R.I., and Lisa Murkowski, R-Ark., urging congressional leadership to approve $150 million in fisheries disaster funding.

I don’t think Senator Murkowski has defected recently, so I’m guessing they’re so “wicked local” nobody thought the sudden advocacy for fisheries relief from a land-locked state was a little odd. Had they used the Google, they would have discovered that “AK” in fact is the state abbreviation for ALASKA. That’s OK. Next time you’re there, just call them Glue-Chester. They’ll love it.

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree, as they say.

Camping with the Cruzes

And now, from the mind of the man who provided half the genetic material that made Ted Cruz, here’s a little thought about the atheist community.

“It’s a free country,” he said. “If these people need to practice their holy rites of atheism, they can do so, as long as they are in clearly-marked encampments far away from the rest of us…While they’re in their Heathen Zones, they’re free to dance naked around the fire, brand the mark of the Devil on their flesh or whatever else they want to do.”

Oh, and any heathen spawn that spring forth from the camp of the Devil need to be extracted immejately so they don’t absorb the wicked ways of their parents via scary demonic breast milk. And black people are “uninformed” and “deceived.” God Bless ‘Murrika.

The Great One?

For those who have been wondering, the transformation now appears to be complete. The former half-term governor, who wielded her Alaska cred at every possible opportunity now appears to have crossed a threshold. Last week, she tweeted that she was looking forward to talking to The Great One.

Really, Alaskans may be asking themselves. She’s going to be talking to Denali, the highest peak in North America? Well, um… OK. Communing with nature sometimes affects people like that I guess.

But, no. She went on. “I’m really looking forward to talking to The Great One, Mark Levin.” Yes, apparently the caustic, nasty, right wing talking head has now surpassed the other “Great One.” Congratulations Governor. You’re now officially an Arizonan.

Math is Hard

From the KTUU Facebook page, we bring you this little bit of awesome.

Don Young Will Never Read This Meme

Well, unless someone else turns on a computer, prints it out on to a piece of paper and shows it to him.

Well- I was struck dumb after having to go find out who whatzername’s great-one is was.
holy moley! sweet merry and crimenently!
sometimes I am just happy to be 600 miles from anywhere and not listen to whatever passes for talk radio.
what a doof, that guy is!
      equally our not-esteemed rep–of-us-all-NOT!

I think I’m off “oysters” for awhile… yech.

Thanks, AKM, for taking the time to put all this into one post, so I don’t have to either go “uneducated” or spend half a day cruisin’ the net. And thanks, also for that picture of the Pope – see what I mean about his smile?

Mikey – in another post you mentioned what gas cost in your area (Iowa). Usually this area of north GA is below the national average, but I was amazed to find yesterday that it was up to $3.09. I keep hearing how low gas is, and that it’s still comig down. So plan a vacation everyone, or perhaps it will help you when you make your Thanksgiving trip to be with your family and you can be truly thankful for low gas prices
    (Let’s hope!)

Found this at the world’s most dangerous beauty salon. The world is perfect if it stops with this.

🙂 Quite dead around here on the weekends. 🙁 Do rill people have lives? What’s a life look like?

chuckle. don’t worry mikey, we see ya! cleaning gutters, mulching leaves for raspberries, movie matinee with wife – 12 years a slave.. excellent Movie, folks,, pretty graphic towards the end. amazing how the Bible gets twisted … next school sessions starts tonite and work..hoo boy.. work is going to be INTENSE right up to xmas. Having fun tweaking one of our friends with her right wing stuff…I gotta lighten up or the friendship is going to suffer… sad part is what she DOES – charity work, volunteer, etc, is so 180 degrees from what she spouts off about.. and that’s what I love about her.. actions speak so much more than mere words.. Lemons almost ripe, so next weekend is Juneau Mud Pups weekend from Ben.. I made some Greek Crescent cookies 2 weeks ago, and they didn’t survive the weekend.. Better Half told me not to make them anymore, cuz she couldn’t stop eating them..and they’re just FULL of BUTTER ! yum!

          • Alaska Pi says:

I dunno mikey- I’m not sure what a life looks like either 😉
Helping neighbor fix her sink, working last of this year’s compost in ( a scant 1 day before ground froze solid), hanging winter weight curtains, steaming pie punkins to have frozen punkin for goodies all winter, trying a new squash recipe for turkey day ( rilly, rilly good one as it turned out!!), mooning over seed catalogs already, waiting for ben’s goodies to arrive :-)- time is full even if nothing exciting going on.
Watching snow move down the mountains and waterfalls freeze, rooting out all my winter gloves, hats and boots ( stashing all my spring-summer-fall gloves, hats and boots )
and wishing frickin bear would go to bed for the winter already!

I’m missing something. Benlomond2 has a 4.0 and he’s proud of hisself, and rightly so. The motor city madman got a 4-F and was proud of hisself. So how come we don’t celebrate outstanding academic achievement, but morons that can say 2nd Amendment are revered? Why does Caribou Barbie get away with wanting ‘murrica to be exceptional when discrimination is supposed to be illegal? When did being obscenely rich become the ultimate and possibly only definition of success? Ben you have every right to be proud. Nugent and buddies can kiss my Democrat Symbol!

    • benlomond2 says:

Thanks Mikey…. I don’t sweat Nugent.. I had college deferment during the draft years and volunteered anyway.. family tradition and all that rot…As for Caribou Barbie, evidently her one nite stand with a non-caucasion is back in the news… Todd must be feeling a bit…..hhmmm….. embarassed? Is this another case of her, do as I say, not as I do , in regards to race relations? 🙂

More awesome: http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/space/stories/watch-northern-lights-dance-over-sweden Yes, I know you Alaskans are accustomed to the Aurora, but many of us Outside have yet to witness it in person. This is from Lights Over Lapland. Enjoy.
