Bird of the Week – Dark-eyed Junco

The Dark-eyed Junco is one of Alaska birders’ favorite species, because it is among the first spring migrants to arrive and the last to leave.

There are half a dozen subspecies, but the Slate-colored shown here is the version found most commonly in Alaska. The black head and the pinkish bill make this another easy species to identify in the field. The call sounds amazingly like an old-style cell phone ringing, and WC has seen birders check their phones when they have heard the bird’s call. Very common, a habitué of feeders and, yes, another sparrow. But at least it isn’t called a sparrow.

Camera geek stuff: f5.7, 1/250, ISO800.

Former wingnut SOH Dennis Hastert indicted. http://juanitajean.com/well-this-happened/ Another party of family values wingnuts bites the dust.

Hastert turns out to be a kiddie diddler(males) from his days as a teacher/coach in high school.

I love juncos and I only see them in the wintertime. Winter hasn’t truly begun until I see them, nor does it end until they’re gone.

Hope everyone took time to reflect on Memorial Day about the sad state of political relations in our once great nation. We should come together as a nation and celebrate and remember the men and women who sacrificed so much so the rest of us can live in relative peace. As to prosperity, that is a whole ‘nother can of worms to be discussed.

I see my s-stained congressweasel took another opportunity to berate the Potus and his girls for their vacation-again. “Cantaloupe Calves” Kingrat spends all year on vacash at tax-payer expense and doesn’t accomplish anything except make iowans look like total retards for electing him over and over.Had opportunities to enlist in the military and serve in ?Nam,but decided to hide in college until the war ran down and then quit without finishing his schooling. Another in a long line of wingnut chicken-hawks.

Since this post is about birds, let me offer King my middle finger as a token of my respect for his lazy-ass leadership. Congressweasel King-UP YOURS!!

No, it’s not called a sparrow, and living in NYC, I’ve never seen one. Thanks, WC.
