The Last Bird of the Week – Townsend’s Warbler

This is the last of Wickersham’s Conscience’s Birds of the Week. We’ve run through the last species WC photographed in Alaska. The total is 187, if anyone is curious. And for this last species, WC has saved the beautiful Townsend’s Warbler, Alaska’s prettiest warbler.

That colorful, strongly marked face makes it easy to identify in the field. While this is a female, and less strongly marked, you can still see what a handsome warbler this is.

You can see how much vivid the male’s coloration is in this photo from Anchorage.

A beautiful bird, and a good place to wrap up this three-plus year series.

WC thanks each and all of the readers who have stayed with this Saturday series since its start on May 19, 2013. Not all of the birds have been colorful, and some of them have probably been interesting only to hard core birders. WC thanks you for you compliments and kind words across all those blog posts. If WC has increased your interest in the diverse and spectacular Alaska avifauna, well, that’s pretty cool.

As always, most of these photos and many more remain at Frozen Feather Images.

Thanks. Take time to enjoy the birds.

Hunter in Oregon recently bagged a Baikal Teal- only the third one ever verified in Oregon. They mostly hang out across the pond in Communist countries. This one apparently yearned to be free and a Drumpf supporter put an end to that non-sense pretty pronto. Not likely a Muslim duck from a Communist country. So there is that.

Most of this is factual from my latest Fur Fish and Game Magazine.

A very large thank you from iowa, WC. Beautiful photography, interesting data and some rollicking good fun along the way. Forever appreciated.

I hope running out of birds doesn’t mean the end of WC’s contributions to The Mudflats. I’ve enjoyed every one. Thank you, WC.
