Seen at the Alaska State Fair

sticker

Just in case anyone had any lingering doubts about what the anti-Obama rhetoric means.

Wonder how many of these we can expect to see driving around?

I tried a Google search a few minutes ago.
” Crooks & Liars” posted a story as well. They said Shannyn Moore gave them a Tweet. many comments.

Just talked to a person at the Alaska State Fair office. They have been looking for this bumper sticker, but haven’t found it or the vendor yet.
She didn’t know what the H & H. But she agreed it needed to be prohibted.
If you know, call them at 745 4827

Very sad. We have not come far as a race. Maybe those “beings” that landed in Roswell had better sense. I hope they return.

oops, I mean – the booth, selling these bumper stickers… darn typos 🙂

  7. ~reesh says:

I was told the booth (selling these photos) can be found on the “yellow line near h and h.”

  8. MonaLisa IS MY NAME! says:

There IS that, lexky. The way it’s worded, it’s likely that sticker was from before the election. There’s every chance that the only reason this vendor still has it for sale, is that it was ‘too much’ even then, and just didn’t sell.

    Hope! 😉

  9. lexky says:

if you live in the south these are nothing new.
i seen some of these before he was even elected.

  10. Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

Thank you for your wise words.

I’d like to print it out just so I can see the reminder on a daily basis. It’s so much nicer than getting all worked up.

    thanks again

  11. @ silverfox67
i admire your graceful wording & the message of overcoming & tolerance you’re conveying..
however, when it comes to bigotry of any kind that’s when my tolerance ENDS:
the forefathers you spoke of, the ones that granted everyone inalieble rights did not hesitate to fight the royalists who wanted to subjugate the newborn nation across the pond.
and if we today let demagogues, flat-earthers and civil war reenactors get a free pass & this kind of BS can proliferate, we all may live long enough to enjoy the dawn of a war of the cultures we thought was a screenwriter’s bad dream.

can tolerance outlive the supremacists? no, cos those people act out of a position of false strength & confidence which is very appealing to those who aren’t really mentally strong or confident (see patriotism-debate).
then this thing broods & spreads & seeks for mainstream acceptance, y’know the point where middle class folks are okay with the thought that one can at least be sceptical about a black man in the WH. and then people pick up guns and kill doctors and museum cops.

brothers and sisters, fight ’em where you see ’em!

ps. it’s the same with the muslim world. a few chauvinists, genital mutilators and eschatologists set the agenda for over a billion people who are not interested in terrorizing other people. yet they buckle all for being seen as weak and compromising.

The sticker did evoke a visceral negative reaction with me. I read through all the comments enjoyed them all some up, some down, somesideways. Some as follows jumped out at me, they are:

Loved it BUT #81 is the best approach, tugs at heart strings, better than snark

  13. ds55 says:

@ Polly #84: You’re right that some white folks only listen to FOX News and may not know that Obama’s mother was a white woman. But knowing this may not may not make them accept Obama. In fact, it may make them dislike him even more than they already do. Obama is a product of what bigots refer to as “race mixing” and they aren’t happy about it.

  14. slope_walker says:

The answer to the bumper-sticker’s question is “Yes, we do.”

The bummer is that those buying it/using the sticker are certainly not wanting any change….it’s the ole’ far right tail of the income bell-curve (wants the status quo at status) duping the left half of the intelligence bell-curve (scared and weak anyway) in the mix of capitalism and democracy that we call home.

  15. BooBooBear says:

I just wrote to all the fair managers linked on post #92. I will let you know if I hear back from any of them regarding this disgusting bumper sticker.

  16. califpat says:

    Lee: Well stated!!

  17. Lee323 says:

    @ seattlefan 90
    ————————————–
You probably already know this but for those who watched but don’t know:

    C, T, G, A = cytosine, thymine, guanine, adenine

These are base molecules of DNA…..the sequence of which encodes information genetically.
    —————————..——

Humans are gregarious AND territorial. Therefore, they gravitate towards groups which have characteristics (regardless of how they are determined) that identify them as belonging to that group and territory. The Mudflats is one such group…(a nice one, I might add.)

More obvious differences such as skin color make it easier for exclusion from or inclusion into a group but humans will find all sorts of exclusionary criteria to maintain the perception of their rightful group…..from their elite clubs to financial status to neighborhoods to education to types of clothing/cell phones in high schoolers to ad infinitum….

The bitter problems arise when exclusion becomes punitive and degrading to people in other groups.

  18. AKPetMom says:

I’ve had idiots yell “Sierra Club Sucks” and deface the Sierra Club sticker on the back window of my Subaru, and I tell you, it doesn’t make me feel good and just as you said #97, it annoys me and I’d rather not annoy anyone else in that manner regardless of their views…just sayin’.

  19. Bill Hess – You are right, but it would be fun just to annoy them.

  20. AKPetMom says:

Remember, the Right to Lifers have aborted fetuses in jars at their booth at the AK State Fair and many of us have had a problem with that in the past but they continue to have their booth and their fetuses.

Fact is, the Alaska State Fair does not have a vetting system for their booth rentals. They rent to anyone that can fork up the dollars.

This is not the first instance in which I have not agreed with a vendor’s wares or mindset, but the vendors can pretty much sell whatever they like as long as it’s legal.

The Fair is a great example of capitalism and free speech, much as some of us might not agree with the wares or ideology of some of the participants.

On another note, Planned Parenthood has a booth that distributes free condoms and reproductive advice. I know people who are up in arms over their presence at the State Fair, and they’ve called the Fair to complain, but Planned Parenthood is still there, every year.

  21. Bill Hess says:

And I disagree with those who say they would cover it up with another sticker.

This would be a suppression of their right to free speech and even if that speech is ugly and hateful, it is their right and when they exercise that right, they both educate us as to what they are thinking and expose themselves for what they truly are.

As you did with this picture.

    Good job.

  22. califpat says:

I just love MudPups, because everytime I start to feel helpless about issues like that bumper sticker, you bring me back to a feeling of hope and power. Thank you so much!!

  23. boodog says:

Silverfox, what a fair and open mind you have. I am not so sure I could be as gracious as you if I had walked in your shoes. You are right of course, but that does not make it any easier. I believe that the President is well qualified for the job, no matter his race, and I just like him, as a person. I’m sure he will do something sometime that I won’t agree with, but I trust his heart. When ‘white’ becomes a minority, and it will, the racists will fight even harder. And I will try to remember your words and not let the Ridiculous Raciousness get the better of me. Thank you.

  24. HarpboyAK says:

If you go to the Fair’s Web “contact us” page at http://www.alaskastatefair.org/aboutus/staff.html, you will find click-through email addresses for a number of the Fair staff, though not for Ray Ritari, the manager. I suggest that folks outside Alaska might want to send an email to all of the staff members with email addresses on that page. I’m focusing on the marketing folks with my complaint!

  25. mollusca says:

A bit of clarification from someone who works on the fairgrounds (though not in any position of authority): The Alaska State Fair is a private organization, not affiliated with the state government. More to the point, this sticker is from a vendor’s booth, not an official Fair booth, so the Fair had nothing to do with it. It’s certainly a far cry from the Fair’s mission statement of a fun atmosphere for all, but pestering Donna in the main office probably won’t help, since the phone is ringing off the hook there all during the Fair anyway. Email if you must, but protesting the specific vendor might be more effective. I’m not sure what policing the Fair does over the wares of the individual vendors, but I’d guess very little, because the logistics of that would be kind of impossible. It’s up to vendors to comply, and this one obviously lacks some taste and sense.

I think the Fair tries to stay out of politics as much as possible. I gather that there was some rhubarb (before my time) about the anti-abortion booth being there — the Fair wasn’t too happy, but the group claimed free speech and equal right to be there, along with their gory dead-baby posters. Things must have been resolved somehow, since their posters no longer feature bloody photos, and they’re also no longer located next to the barbecued turkey leg booth.

  26. seattlefan says:

I just finished watching the special on NatGeo. My takeaways (among many) are that race does not genetically exist (Wow!) and that we are all one big family. I know a bit about DNA and the c,t,g,a they speak of was regretfully not explained. Other than that, they did a good job.

If you missed it try to find when it airs again. It is quite good.

Back to the bumper sticker headlined by this thread, I find it so sad that we are all connected and yet hatred and ignorance still persists.

  27. Gramiam says:

silverfox, you are an inspiration to every one of us, whatever our color. You make me proud to be an American and proud to know you. You also remind me why I chose to mark my ballot for our President. Yes, he is “our” President and I know many people, including myself, who get down on their knees and thank God for the courage, intelligence and the faith this man has in this country and in us, it’s people. We also pray for the safety and health of President Obama and of his family.

You are absolutely right to demand that we not give any attention of credence to the haters among us, for they have no right to make us fear or lose confidence in ourselves and in the man we chose to lead us. Thank you for reminding us of who we are and who we should aspire to be.

  28. maelewis says:

We recently had dinner with one of my husband’s college friends. The friend has always been a staunch Republican, and when I heard him using the stock phrases from Fox TV, I told him that he had been brain washed. The guy is a brilliant lawyer, reasonable on any subject except politics, and thought that George W. Bush was the greatest president that the US had ever had. Too bad he wasn’t able to run for a third term. The only joke that kept me going through that horrible conversation was the Stephen Colbert joke-question, “Bush, best president or best president ever?”

Our poor friend actually thought that Bush was more articulate than Obama. When my husband and I began to replay some of the conversation later in a private moment, it was clear that the basis for the visceral hatred was racial. This guy lived in an all white area, really saw minorities as “other.” No matter where he travelled in Europe, they were the ones who were snobs and treated him badly; he won’t go abroad because “they” are always so rude to him. There is no reasoning with this kind of thinking; “My mind is made up, dont confuse me with the facts.” People who follow this line of thinking continue to divide the country with hate. It is truly sad that after thousands of years of so-called civilization, we still cannot resolve our differences and learn to live peacefully with each other.

Polly, I don’t think it matters to them.

  30. slipstream says:

    @ 35 ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck

Oh, but Rumsfeld did give specifics. He was totally idiotically absurdly wrong, of course. Here’s what he said: “I can’t tell you if the use of force in Iraq today will last five days, five weeks or five months, but it won’t last any longer than that.”

  31. Polly says:

    I meant- DON”T know…that Obama…is half-white…

  32. Polly says:

I think a lot of these white people know that Obama is half-white. A lot of people didn’t read Time magazine and other publications that had his bio with his mom and grandmom, granddad, etc. They watched Fox, and we know Fox never revealed that fact.

  33. SameOld says:

It’s hard to understand the mentality. I live in W PA in a county that is 1% nonwhite and the prejudice is extreme with some people — mostly people who themselves were discriminated against ethnic minorities a generation ago. I refer to those called mill hunkies. I think it is a sort of peasant mentality that can’t grasp that when the water rises, it rises for us all. Instead they think if your water rises, they will drown. This is the stuff that once drove pogroms.

  34. wild tortuga says:

Silverfox- I am admiring your posts very much. #73 SHOCKED me! I had not even thought of the meaning of being able to risk having all the chief executives in one place. Although I am shaking from having it brought to my attention, it gives me hope that the Secret Service and all concerned are completely on top of all the episodes of goons bringing guns to town hall meetings. Thanks.

  35. Lori in Los Angeles says:

I am trying to visualize what would happen if a large group of people went to the tea parties and town halls (and anywhere people are angry and filled with hate) and did THIS:

What a difference it could make!

  36. How about this bumper sticker: Do we need an AirHead in White House to build us a bridge to nowhere?

  37. samper says:

When will this crap end? I’m disgusted.

  38. benlomond2 says:

White Americans have struggled with racial and religous prejudice since the start of the country. Each colony was founded by groups of people escaping persecution, yet they themselves persecuted those unlike themselves ( painting with a broad brush here, I know) . Change is difficult for most people; they fear it rather than embrace the good that can come from it… unless they see an immediate benefit for themselves personally. I think for many Average White Joes, struggling to maintain their present level of living, the prospect of minorities, who have been held back, being able and encouraged to elevate themselves on a field that will become more level..scares the hell out of them.. When you’re scared, you strike out blindly at the percieved threat to your way of life. We’re seeing this fear of change everywhere right now..Health Care, Jobs, Housing, Banking, Education…Perhaps if there weren’t so MANY things in turmoil in the US, we’d see less of the emotional reactions right now,,but with so many out of work, and the rest worried about their jobs, retirement/savings funds in the loo, etc.. Social Change is going to be a tougher row to hoe…Doesn’t matter that it IS the right thing to do, it’s just really hard some guy who’s probably never lived anywhere more than 25 miles from where he grew up to deal with.. My brother in Fla is one of those guys, and I recently had to go back there…Bible Thumping Republican to the core, and can’t see the hypocrasy of what he says to save his life…sometimes ya just need that mule training tool to get the message thru..

  39. A fan from Chicago #70 – Sarah Palin reminds me of Pandora’s Box, only it’s everytime she opens her mouth she spews hatred and evil into the world.

  40. gizmo #60 – I say we just ship them to Afghanistan and hand them over to the Taliban. Then they will expierence first hand their brand of hatred and intolerance.

  41. Diane says:

There are still more of us then them.
We need to raise our voices above theirs.
We have forgotten to raise our voices.

I know that at times I have despaired, especially during the Bush years.
palin was just the icing on the cake.

But for the sake of all we believe in and the future of our children we need to raise our voices. Louder and longer then them.

We can do, it I know we can.

  42. seattlefan says:

For anyone interested National Geographic Channel has a program on now about the Human Family Tree. I took part in this project and so did my father. We sent our dna swabs in. To make this OT, I believe we are all connected and I don’t understand how all the hate exists because of differences in looks and beliefs. We are all connected and on this planet to live and thrive as one! No time for hate, exclusion and bigotry.

  43. silverfox67 says:

Thanks for all of your ‘kudos’. We will all get through this time….no the hate will not stop….but we will get through this. When President Kennedy was killed they did not have the sophisticated mechanisms that they have today…they would never have had the President, Vice President and Speaker of the House….. all in the audience at Senator Kennedys Funeral….if they were unprepared…..and I KNOW they were prepared for anything,,,,,God Bless the Secret Service Men and Women….and all of the local Police forces that work with them.

  44. Aussie Blue Sky says:

Perhaps, since it’s the Alaska “State” Fair, the Governor ought to be invited to give his opinion – and asked what he plans to do about this kind of thing, now and in the future (it sure as heck wouldn’t look cool in DC).

Ditto for Talis Colberg, a former State Fair legal rep with continuing ambitions in politics.

  45. A Fan From Chicago says:

    # 53 Silver Fox, I agree. Throughout the campaign, pundits were fond of saying that Barak Obama wanted to run as the post-racial candidate. I’m not sure Obama ever said that overtly but the message was clear. A big part of his narrative was his personal story and we all got it.

His approach was: present your credentials and your vision, go head to head with your primary opponents, appeal to the voters and let the best person win. I’m not the Black candidate. I’m the Harvard educated guy who’s a constitutional law professor, been in the state Legislator and the US Senate who has a great grasp of the issues and view for the future. And I’m young and hip and I have a cool family and let’s face it, it’s the 21st Century.

The way things have been going this summer I’m beginning to wonder. Is Obama going to be the post-racial candidate or the person who gets the next person able to be the post-racial candidate.

When you listen to Martin Luther King, I think it was pretty clear that he knew he wasn’t going to get to the Promised Land. He said he got to the mountain top and saw it. But he wished for a country where his kids would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. His children.

I still have very high hopes for this Administration, despite some short comings and giant hate-filled road blocks. I wonder if Obama anticipated how fierce the backlash would be. Fueled in no small part by Palin’s race- and hate-baiting rhetoric in the campaign and the vitriol promulgated by the right-wing media.

People throw around epithets like Nazi, communist, socialist, Marxist, with no regard to the fact that some of those are competing philosophies. In my mind, the people who call Obama a Nazi are just substitution it for Nig*er (using that in hopes it gets through the filter.) And they think they’re clever because it quicker to say, even though they both have two sylables.

The folks who stand up at meetings and yell that they want their country back mean pretty much one thing. They want back the country they knew where white men ran it and rich people got richer and if they kept their heads down they might get some too. And everyone still went to the high school football game on Friday night, and you had guns in the home and in the truck and if one of the local girls got knocked up we’d cover for her, and on and on.

I think for all the legions of people who responded in November to the notion of “Change we can believe in” there was a smaller, but active, vocal, frightened, reactionary group for whom the notion of change was anathama, a call to arms.

We’ll see how this plays out. I have some small hope that the dialogue has changed a bit as August winds down. I think our side got hit upside the head by the teabaggers and birthers and town hall meetings and realized that this isn’t going to come easy and as much as we helped in the campaign we got a little complacent since January and now realize that we have to help carry the load.

It’s pretty clear that the lines have been drawn. Keep in mind that there are more of us than there are of them. And one thing that seems to have been lost in all of this, and in the grand scheme of things it’s probably incidential. But it bugs the hell out of me. Have any of these people noticed that President Obama is half white?

    Just askin’

It’s a shame when stupid ppl feel the need to advertise. However, no matter how I sad I feel about the content of the owners heart, they do have the 1st Amendment right to tell the world, on their own vehicle / web-site / sign in their yard / etc.

I recall being called unpatriotic and a coward for questioning Bush’s reasons for invading Iraq…. many of our 1st Amendment rights were threatened by intimidation during that time. All I asked for was independent confirmation from another country – one that GWB didn’t have his hands in their pockets.

The time is not that far off when white people will definitely be a minority in the United States. That is coming about both thru immigration and intermingling. The sooner that time gets here, the better. But I do fear that old prejudices still existent in some will erupt into fire as those who see their ‘power’ being diminished encourage and feed the ignorance and bigotry of those such as the person with that bumper sticker. It’s very difficult to comprehend ignorance and hate, and very scary to consider the potential consequences.

I have blue eyes and blonde hair, and the most beautiful grandchild with dark brown eyes and dark hair because of his Hispanic mama.

Empish I had to go look a couple of times to see what it actually was.I thought it was a bumper sticker than when I looked again I saw the rubber band around the stickers..My sincere hope is that no one will buy any as some don’t want to be known for what they are.And yes from what I have heard it could be an Eddie Burke thing.when My daughter used my van for vacation, they were going in a very conservative area where violence had already happened,They took the stickers off my van because they were afraid of the violence it might attract on the road or that some one might vandalize the vehicle.Too bad they felt they had to do that.I only found out after they came home and I wondered what happened to my Obama Biden stickers.

  52. MonaLisa IS MY NAME! says:

Ripley: The bottom sticker on that link made me laugh. They spelled ‘loses’ right the first time, just not the 2nd or 3rd. (Proof that h8rz = stupid?)

I wish I was more confrontational. An older neighbor (late 60’s?) who walks his dog past my house daily stopped to chat the other night. He brought up something he’d heard recently, “They’re saying that Republicans don’t believe in God!” He laughed, like it was the stupidest thing he’d ever heard. I laughed too, but all I could think of to say was “I don’t know about that, but from what I see on TV, a lot of them don’t seem to follow His teachings. Like this ‘death panel’ thing. Do YOU think there’s gonna be ‘death panels’ if the health care reform thing gets passed?”

(Just so you get a better picture of me: just saying THAT much made me cringe inside.)

When he responded, “Actually, yes. Yes I do.” I said, “Which part of the bill is that in, ‘cuz I gotta tell ya’, I’m in the 390’s so far, and I haven’t seen anything even REMOTELY like that yet.” He admitted that he hadn’t read the bill itself, but that he watched the news regularly. I didn’t ask which network, I just said, “I don’t believe ‘the news’ anymore; ever since they went 24/7 it’s all sensational spinning, just to try’n get higher ratings. It’s not information, it’s ‘Info-tainment’. Now-a-days, you gotta research stuff yourself if you wanna make up your OWN mind about things.”

With absolutely perfect timing, my sister called out to me to come answer the phone. Perfect for me, because at THIS point, my stomach was in knots. I threw a cheery ‘G’night!’ over my shoulder as I trotted into the house.

Who knows, maybe he’ll read the bill for himself now, if only so he can show me where the ‘death panels’ are!

  53. seattlefan says:

Well, there you have it….very sad. Anyone who would buy or display this sticker represents the “lowest common denominator” of civility and hope for humanity. I think about this and then my mind goes to all the horrible things happening in Darfur and I really wonder how long it will take civilization to get to a place of common acceptance, love and concern for all.

    Great post Silverfox67!

One of the many things I admire about Obama, Silverfox, is his ability to keep focused on the important things. He keeps his eye on the ball and is never sucked into the abyss of hatred. I think you are quite right in your remarks. I would cover up those bumper stickers with something funny or benign to stop the stirring up of hatred in the people reading them. OK, “Proud to be gay” isn’t it, but I was thinking that people who hate blacks also hate LGBTs and anyone else who is different. So it would be better if the bumper sticker said something funny or cute that is non-controversial. I guess that means, “I believe in gun control” is out too. And “Outlaw the NRA.” Just sayin’…..

We have a long way to go and a short time to get there. Especially now, we have to channel our inner Ted Kennedy and keep on going because it righteous to do so. We must not be bullied into conceding any battle because ignorance is paraded as powerful pride. Change happens becasuse we are the change. There are many of us who will not be defeated because hatred is attractive to some powerful people. Hatred appears to be contagious, but love conquers all. We must keep doing the hard work of loving. We must not be contaminated by the ugly nature sometimes revealed by our own families and communities during these times that are a-changing.

Another absolutely horrible part of this whole ‘racist’ invective is that it is being turned on its head by those who have been guilty of legal discrimination and its results. Those viewpoints, even among some nominal Christians have been and are being passed on to newer generations.

I don’t get angry when I see things like that bumper sticker. At first it bothered me…all the name calling. But now I just look and don’t let those things get beyond my eyes….into my heart.

What I do think is this…we Black People…have rights..given to us by White America….we couldn’t get those rights ourselves because we were treated as slaves.

All Americans can speak their minds because of the Constitution…written by White men. People who display words of this nature should thank their White forefathers for giving them that right. If they were in another land they might suffer greatly for words like those.

I have lived through race riots…saw neighborhoods burned to the ground. I have worked with men and women who hated me just because of the color of my skin. I cannot spend my PRECIOUS TIME even entertaining their intolerance.

It takes a lot of TIME and ENERGY to HATE and it is not good for your health.

I know in my heart….President Obama and his family will get through all of this Ridiculous Raciousness (if that is a word). He is BIGGER than all their words. And I know that years from now the world will praise him for all that he will do for America….including the person who sported that bumper sticker.

So…don’t you get angry…send a prayer up for that person…don’t become like them….RISE ABOVE THEM.

  64. Empish says:

I will complain as well if it is a vendor selling such trash. If it was a bumper sticker in the parking lot, they have no control over it. Still waiting to hear which is the case.

  65. WakeUpAmerica says:

I think that if I lived in a place that had a bunch of stickers like that driving around, I would arm myself with a bunch of other stickers to stealthily paste over the first ones. Hmmmm. Maybe one that said, “PROUD TO BE GAY” I’m sure we could all come up with a number of appropriate catchy phrases. I would consider it money well-spent, and I would get a good laugh at the same time. I would have them made in the same color so they wouldn’t be noticed right away. Tee hee!! ………Bwaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

I just do not understand where all the hate is coming from.

I have always believed this country was founded on christian principles. Various interpretations of these “principles” have lead to different “faiths.” But I do not recall any of the “faiths” espousing hate as its fundamental principle.

Am I wrong? Is “Christian HATE the New Religion?”

My heart is aching and my soul is crying.

  68. Man_from_Unk says:

I pity the hatred filled people because their message is full of the pain they experienced growing up. It’s good that it’s out in the open then you know what kind of people you are dealing with.

  69. sauerkraut says:

Nothing scares those racist old white boys than a successful black man.

Well… excepting perhaps the black man who joins the NRA.

As Tina is known to say… the stupid white boys (yeah, that includes The Dud) can just suck it.

  70. kettletop says:

Isn’t it refreshing when a racist is blatant so that we can all agree how horrible that is? What really irks me are the politicians who use racist innuendo or “accidently” say things that are “misconstrued” or “taken out of context” and wink while doing it. For example, U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins told a recent gathering in northeast Kansas that the Republican Party is looking for a “great white hope” to help stop the political agenda of the Democratic party and President Barack Obama. Then her spokesperson walks the statement back a bit. Of course she doesn’t regret saying it. Her constituents were thinking it. Or GOP gubernatorial candidate Rex Rammell’s repeated “jokes” about hunting President Obama and the pretending that it wasn’t racist.

  71. Lori in Los Angeles says:

another option is to slap a bumper sticker OVER that one:

Maybe: “Have Gun, Will Teabag” (for anyone who remembers “Paladin”)
    add graphic of scrotum.

  72. colibrimoon says:

This is so sad. Most white people in this country were not aware of the lack of confidence that older black people had in the election results being in favor of Barack Obama. I sat through many social events and listened to my elders warn of false hope and cautioning the young people to “brace ourselves”. There were many spirited discussions at those gatherings. I, for one, never wavered and the warnings that white people would not vote for a black man fell on deaf ears. I truly believed, with all my heart, that Barack Obama would become President of the United States.
The election of Barack Obama represents a turning point in this country, the results are irrefutable. Those of us who came together to stand for change should not let those who fight for more of the same to dissuade us. I could never confront the person selling those stickers, I do not have enough hatred in my heart to go against him and win; but, what I can do is contribute to a blog like this one. A venue that allows me to bond with people that are willing to transcend the naysayers and keep moving toward a country where we are trying to get things done. Si se puede! Yes we can!

  73. Empish says:

The racists will show themselves. And it is our civic duty to point and shout at them. At least I will. Whomever said that all the indignation from the public and the politicos against anything that my President wants to make better boils down to overt racism, is right. What is WRONG with people?

So so sad. Do these people understand that the day Barak Obama was voted the President of America many people across the world cheered and saw hope.
I remember crying will joy and my grandchildren asking why. It make me proud to explain to them how far the world will progress with his election.
As one of my grandkids is of mixed race I watched his face and was happy that maybe some of the remarks that he has heard would hurt less. I’m from Australia and yes, we do have our troubles, but what is happening in America now is so hard to understand.

  79. MonaLisa IS MY NAME! says:

    I’m speechless. That’s just so sickening….!

I can’t even IMAGINE someone trying to hawk such trash in my area (CT). I don’t know how I would have responded to the sight of them.

My first thought would have been to get the vendor’s attention, look him hard in the eyes and just say, “Seriously? You think something like this is ‘ok’ to put out here? Seriously ?”

(But, since he obviously DID think it was ‘ok’, it’d prolly be pointless to probe him for basic decency, huh?)

My next thought would be to buy the whole bundle, in my friendliest manner possible, fanning them out with their backs to him so he couldn’t see which ones they were (so he won’t think to restock), then just tear them to bits and toss ’em later. Even if it meant I’d hafta’ sacrifice my jones for funnel-cake; at least the ill-feeling they induced in me wouldn’t spread like a cancer metastasizing via my neighbors’ bumpers.

(Or maybe I’d just steal ’em. There should be NO profit in promoting hate!)

What do you think YOU’D do?

  80. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

at first i thought it was a billboard…….not sure why i was relieved it was only a bumper sticker. it implies there is a beggar in the white house as well?

seriously, where was the outrage when our trillion dollar war was started? i still remember my disbelief when rumsfeld wouldn’t give specifics on cost or time of involvement – as if it was of no consequence. yuck.

  81. kareninTexas says:

It is disgusting to see something like this, much less at a State Fair! I’m very tired of this too, but having lived in Texas for years, I’ve seen this sort of thing all along. There are some people that just won’t change their ignorant minds and unfortunately pass these ugly beliefs to their children. It just makes me want to puke!

  82. jwa says:

And of course, Mike Hickabee recently said (in his faux pastor’s voice) racism is bad, very bad, but it’s just as bad to FALSELY accuse someone of racism and just because you oppose Obama’s policies doesn’t mean you are a racist.

Which, on its face, is a fair comment. But of course it completely ignores the rampant racism among so many of his opponents on the right. I would reply to Hickabee (misspelling intentional) that it’s just as bad to ignore racism and pretend it doesn’t exist just because you agree with them politically.

    Tired.

I know, Nan. I feel the same way. I waffle from anger at such ill disguised racism and despair. It is tiring.

  84. Susan says:

Wow. Will it ever end? Remember this: for every adult you hear making racist remarks, acting in a prejudice manner or supporting those who do…there are children listening, watching and absorbing every bit of it. That’s what’s frightening. These people have no shame, no heart and no conscience.
We have to do better. We just have to.

hmmm….why/how anyone would feel so comfortable, in this supposed advanced day and age, to proudly display such overt racism. i agree with ryan h – this is barely one step from “i hate blacks.”

i guess i can answer my own question: the GOP, Faux News and CONservative talk radio, and yes, our beloved Sarah Palin! While there have been a few lone voices among them, they have been drowned out.

(and i thought i had seen something really obnoxious when i happened to pull up behind a dually truck (that’s dooley for y’all fellow texans) on the highway sporting a massive bumper sticker with arrows on either end pointing to the tires and giant lettering proclaiming: LEAVING MY CARBON FOOTPRINT.)

After enduring 4 years of listening to these uneducated, racists towns folks, I refused to raise my children amongst them.
