Parents Revolt – Too Angry to Scrapbook!

OK wingnut moms and dads across the nation. Here’s a final word to convince you that you’re doing the right thing by keeping your kids out of school to protest the president telling them to stay in school. Yeah…that’ll show ’em!

This spoof is quite hilarious.

Republicans have hit an all time low.

  2. daMamma says:

That vid was hilarious and scary all at the same time. Imagine a President “encouraging” kids to do horrible things like attend school, study hard, set goals for themselves and the like! Indoctrination? Where on earth did they get that from? And someone please tell me when education became a Democrat/Socialist/Communist/Fascist/Liberal thing?

Republicans don’t believe in learning any more? Thinking certainly seems to have become a lost art with some of these folks.

If I remember correctly Reagan did this in ’88, GHW Bush in ’91, and even GW Bush did it in ’01. I’m willing to bet there were other times these three Republican presidents, among others of both parties have all done this to some degree or other. “hey kids, you are our most valuable asset into the future. stay in school, study hard, become the best you can be.”

  3. laingirl says:

This clip was funny, but also scary since it is so close to being the way they act. I read about one school in Texas that didn’t intend to show our President’s speech because of “time,” but previously showed the children a 10 minute video and spent time talking about how the children would be selling shoelaces (yes, shoelaces) as a fundraiser. I’m not a school teacher, but have two brothers who are, and they say it would be very easy to incorporate the President’s speech into many different lesson plans, no matter the age, without it being political.

I think most of those people were just looking for something they could consider objectionable. Largo is correct; “terminal dumb ass” is a larger threat.

  4. curiouser says:

AKM – Thanks for answering my question. The parody is hilarious. It would’ve been wicked hilarious if run on CNN.

  5. mo says:

Apparently a reporter from the Juneau Empire called the local school superintendent to see if anyone had griped about the President’s speech, and sure enough, some ninny had sent an email. Which earned her a photo op and full length article in the Juneau Empire. Guess from where she gets all her directives:

“She said she learned through a national talk radio program and FOX News that the Department of Education’s suggested lesson plans for use by teachers after the speech asked students to tell in writing what they pledged to do for President Obama.

“I know a lot of people do not understand what is wrong with that but we are familiar with the Russian revolution, the Chinese revolution, the uprising in Europe from Hitler, the uprisings in Cuba and Venezuela: The children in school are asked to pledge allegiance to their leader. And we think that’s wrong,” she said. ”

Uprising in Europe from Hitler? That was an uprising? Someone is not as familiar with the history of fascism, communism, socialism as she fancies herself to be.

And what’s up with the “We”? What, got a mouse in your pocket?

Bleeeearrrrgh. There. I feel much better now.

  6. InJuneau says:

GreatGranny2B–go find an Episcopal church; we take in anyone, and we’re much more “Christian” acting than some.

  7. KateinCanada says:

I found this discussion of the cumulative effect of media distortion on “The Last Psychiatrist” blog via Stumble. The author discusses a satiric Onion film and moves into serious discussion of how enough imagery does not replace reality, it becomes reality. It’s relevant to the current topic.

“The news doesn’t just influence our values. It changes the way we think so that certain values become inevitable.

    http://thelastpsychiatrist.com/2009/09/this_onion_clip_is_hilarious_n_1.html

Thre’s also a nice essay on gender behavior in the movie Twilight.

  8. Largo says:

I have a (former) friend in Virginia who talks this crap. And she’s serious. So yeah, it would be funny, if there weren’t people (abetted by the MSM) hand wringing and pontificating about their stupidity, whether it be on the school speech, health care, the stimulus.

Terminal dumb ass has afflicted our country. A bigger threat than swine flu.

  9. daisydem says:

GreatGranny: you are my hero! I only wish I had responded with something like that at my (former) bridge group, the day they started ranting about Letterman’s joke re: Palin then went on to say some very ugly things about our First Family (which were lies by the way). I realized that day that a few earlier impressions I had of not only their political leanings but some racism were very true and I did not belong there. They all profess to be Christians too and are always talking about what they do at/for their churches. I wish I had said to them, “By God, do you people not have a shred of decency?” I just turned red, got quiet, and as soon as I could leave I did. I will not be going back. GreatGrammy, wish you had been there.

  10. PennLawyer says:

Well spoken, GreatGranny. A minister worth his or her calling would give a series of sermons on the changing world we live in, how many non-white, fellow Americans are Christians, and the changing demographics of the US population. The last census, in 2000 found that minorities, classified as those of any race other than non-Hispanic, single-race whites, currently constitute about a third of the U.S. population, according to Census figures. But by 2042, they are projected to become the majority, making up more than half the population. By 2050, 54 percent of the population will be minorities.

Minority children are projected to reach that milestone even sooner. By 2023, the bureau said, more than half of all children will be minorities.

So the children and great grandchildren of the white church members will find themselves the racial minority. It would serve their own best interests(and that’s the most powerful appeal you can make to self-centered people) if there were a tradition of non-discrimination against raical minorities. “As ye sow, so shall ye reap.”

  11. Nefercat says:

Many, many years ago, while I was in first grade, our proud Ohio school chose to broadcast John Glenn’s orbit of the earth over the PA. We drew little American flags on construction paper during the broadcast and attached them to little bitty drinking straws (the kind you got with the afternoon milk snack).

Here’s the thing, I don’t remember one word of the broadcast. I only remember the incessant commercial breaks for “Carling, Black Label, Carling, Black Label, blah, blah, beer.”

But to this day I am not an alcoholic.

  12. Nan (aka roswellborn) says:

    GreatGranny2B
I’d like to sign up for lessons, please.

  13. jammer5 says:

If I had any kids, I’d salt and pepper em, because I know he’s going to eat em. If I had any, would I hand em over with those cute little catsup packets, or BBQ sauce? Progressive minds want to know.

  14. Gramiam says:

GreatGranny, you ROCK!! That witch you faced down sounds like the “church lady” on Saturday Night Live. I’m proud to call you friend. We grandmothers can beat the snot out of the crazies without a touch or a raised voice. They never see it coming from us!! Move over Margaret and Helen!

  15. GreatGranny2B says:

We need a law that says Jon Steward and Stephen Colbert are NOT allowed to take vacations………… they have missed out on some great material!

Heard one of my fellow church members bashing television – said she can’t turn it on without seeing a “n—-r or some other foreigner” in commercials. My blood boiled and after counting to 100, I turned to her and asked why she bothered coming to service if she was going to walk out and act so un-Christian. She was speechless and I walked away. Although the church is across the road from me, I think I might look for another one as that lady practically runs everything to do with it, including the pastor most of the time. She’ll probably try to run me out if I don’t leave!

@#39 hindsite2020 – you are SO RIGHT! The MSM should be offering a counterpoint for everyone of these oddball clips they do. How any can say they are fair and balanced is beyond me. We don’t have “NEWS” anymore, we have highly paid commentators voicing their personal opinions. I was sorry to see Carolos Watson lost his hourly slot on MSNBC. He seemed fair whenever I watched him, but I guess just being fair isn’t good enough.

  16. michigander says:

You are more than blogging AKM, take the leap. There are too many new posters anyway so I say go for it. Take the challenge, write the book. Now. Yes you can (o:

  17. hindsite2020 says:

What I would like to know is why the MSM is treating this kind of crap as news?!! It seems Like all the MSM is doing is feeding these right wing nuts. They probably represent less than 10% of the population yet are being portrayed as Middle America. I also noticed that they never show a rebuttal from a progressive man/woman on the street. It seems the MSM has not been very fair and balanced lately. They are probably taking their cue from Faux News trying to grab the crazier than bat crap demographic.
We all need to write the major networks and challenge them to run some positive news about what we just avoided, a near total collapse of our financial system. We also need to remind everyone that we crossed a line regarding the torture of detainees. All due to an ultra secret cabal under the direction of Dick Cheney. People have short memories and are giving up on our prez way to early. I can only imagine what is on his plate right now.
I saw The Obama I voted for today in his speech. It was real good to see the old fire in him.

  18. pj says:

that what sweet…but it got me thinking.
Rather than let the POTUS brainwash my grandbabies I should keep those of school age home with me on Tuesday. We could put a you-tubey internets thingy up and Grandma could tell them all…
Just drop out of school, don’t listen to anyone telling you to set goals/achieve something for yourselves, your only job is support me, get a job at minimum wage, and be happy in our community of ignorance!
We can scrapbook together forever, when money allows of course! šŸ™‚

  19. “But over the long term, doing nothing probably means an America very different from the one most of us grew up in. It will mean a nation even more stratified economically and socially than it currently is: one in which an increasingly prospoerous KNOWLEDGE class, living in exclusive enclaves, will be able to purchase whatever they wan t on the marketplace–private schools, private health care, private security, and private jets–while a growing number of their fellow citizens are consigned to low-paying service jobs, vulnerable to dislocation, pressed to work longer hours, dependent on an underfunded, overburdened, and underperforming public sector for their health care, their retirement , and their childrenĀ“s education.”
Oh look, this young Senator evoked the America he knew when growing up, while writing this.
Oh LOOK he is our President.

The magic of the spoof (as we learned from Tina Fey). You donĀ“t really have to change much, when the original is sooooo ridiculous. And how do you make sure a society puts up with the dire changes predicted in above paragraph. Keep Ā“em stupid. You donĀ“t have to read Marx to know that works. That method is as old as the hills.

(Quote from The Audacity of Hope, Chapter Opportunity by Barack Obama)

  20. Tremelai says:

I don’t subscribe to or support the concept of ‘social darwinism’ but chalk this one a point for the Darwin awards.

Lets keep our children out of school because the President wants promote personal responsibility in the nations children and the close the achievement gap with competing countries.

The right wing seems to be sending the message for the promotion of dropping out.

  21. anon blogger says:

Well, you had me going there for a moment, AKM. At first, I thought, “is she really crying?” Then she said “nazi?!!” What? I caught on when she said Happy Meal….LOL

Great job, AKM. I just came from bree’s blog reading all those hateful comments; I was still in shock. Someone said, I’m not quoting, but get him out of Palin’s whitehouse. Yep, yep, and a few kept trying to read something into his speech.

Oh, and SP has been getting slammed over on HuffPost about her recent FB comments. I didn’t see as many trolls as usual. Well, gotta go, ya’ll be good!!!

  22. BooBooBear says:

I just sent Carol Comeau a huge thanks for her level headedness over this whole mess. In 25 years, she has by far been our very best superintendent. On KTUU tonight she was on saying she had answered 500 emails personally. for that she deserves some thanks if you have the inclination to do so.

We know how low we have gotten when this parody can be taken for reality even by intelligent people!

    ———————–

SO TRUE! If she hadn’t mentioned trans-fat (and Happy Meals-related diabetes!) it could pass for the pabb of a real protestor.

  24. Professor Geezer says:

    Hilarious parody! Love it!

When Laura Bush praised President Obama today, and says George W. Bush supports Obama’s speech, you gotta wonder: who is leading these racists who are protesting???

They are just corporate Murdoch minions, mindlessly protesting against their own interests.
Sadly, I guess their kids won’t be very smart either–if they keep missing school for no good reason.

  25. michigander says:

Gryphen – is the school you were working for doing okay with this latest crap? I’m bummed that you had to give up working for the kids but understand. I’ve had to make sacrifices too when the timing sucks. Life happens. Sometimes it’s easier not to know.

  26. SecretShopperforHungryChildren says:

    What’s the fuss?

My right wing-nut friends all home school their children in between their Facebook postings.

  27. GenieO says:

How on earth did she do that so dead serious? I wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without cracking up laughing. She’s good.

  28. dowl says:

It is a parody of a CNN emotional woman on teevee today. Or at least I saw the a short clip and was sorta shocked that the story was related to President Obama’s speech to school children scheduled Tuesday morning.

  29. michigander says:

Mudbug – How many minutes will the speech last, 10 min.? It’s not like an hour of silence. I have 5 Grandkids ages 4 1/2 – 13 yrs. The youngest, the 7 yr. old and the 11 yr. old are looking forward to it. The 9 yr. old and 13 yr. old not so much. They are not ‘into it’ or will read it later.

Some kids may be thrilled to hear from the President, okay with it, bored, pick their nose or whatever but I am glad they have the opportunity. I doubt little ones are going to be punished for not being rivetted to Pres Obama’s words. The 1rst day of class schedule takes up more time and bores the kids a lot more than this as far as my recollection. If they have a decent teacher, including you, your little one should be fine.

My entire family teaches from college to kindergarten, there are Republicans in the midst and they all agree – pay attention, color or pick your nose. It’s okay (o:

  30. BigSlick says:

This is exactly what we need to do whenever the dittoheads begin to rant.

Parody them until their heads explode.

  31. SecretShopperforHungryChildren says:

    Wow…

She doesn’t hope much for her children, does she? Trans fat-filled illiterate juvenile diabetics who grow up to have sub-prime mortgages?

    Is that what wing-nuts call a “higher-calling”?

  32. honestyinGov says:

If you think this is a ‘ single case ‘ of paranoia…think again. I don’t know if it is a group think mentality when these kinds of minds get together but for those of you who have never read Palins Facebook comments, some of them have been posted on a website link that Gryphen links to.

There is a whole list of screen captures ( and their comments ) from these people and their paranoia.
    It was posted recently on B R E E P A L I N.
Here FaceBook Fans are truly crazy.

  33. Baker's Dozen says:

Setting goals, discussing them, and then keeping track during the year is something every school child should be doing anyway. Any school that isn’t doing it should be, and taking a few minutes to listen to the President say so won’t hurt anyone. The number of frivolous, silly, stupid ( “will the owner of the black explorer”–at an elementary school. Yes they need to move, no it isn’t a kid. Look for a dang adult) are mind boggling. Kids need more inspiration from people they respect, not less.
    And the video is great!

  34. SecretShopperforHungryChildren says:

Is there an Academy Award for Best Histrionic Female?

  35. Dennis Zaki says:

I’m jealous. I wish I had filmed that.

  36. Gryphen says:

    Now THAT is funny!

  37. Lani Formerly Bash Budweiser Palin says:

Deist, the video should be on the White House website shortly after the speech. http://www.whitehouse.gov

  38. Lacy Lady says:

I am 80 years old, and can’t believe these people. Worried over a short message from the President of the United States of America? I wonder how many TV shows these kids watch every day for hours on end that are damaging there little brains. That goes for all the rap music also. Of course the old saying is , the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  39. deist says:

    That was really good.

I’m reminded I need to record the speech– it is an hour before school starts and I’d like my kid to watch it.

  40. lilyf says:

    HILARIOUS!!!

I teach at a SoCal high school, where the republican millionaire kids come in high on pot and dressed in designer clothing…I wish they would stay home. I really do.

  41. Joan says:

We know how low we have gotten when this parody can be taken for reality even by intelligent people!

But it IS both funny/scary at the same time!!

  42. curiouser says:

Perfect! This is prob a dumb question….was it really shown on CNN?

It is a parody of one that was. I thought it was great! AKM

  43. moseyon says:

She wasn’t fair dinkum was she??

  44. CO almost native says:

Bwa ha ha…although us mudpups, progressives, and independent thinkers may be the only ones laughing, because the scareddycat wingnuts will be nodding their heads, agreeing with the sentiment.

  45. jojobo1 says:

I think everyone is hoping this will encourage parents to talk to their kids about this kind of thing.I know while reading the speech I talked to my grandson even though because of peer pressure he won’t say much about president Obama, most of his friends have republican parents and you know what that means.I live in a rural area ,small village with subdivisions all around now, back when I grew up here that were only maybe 1 thousand people here.We have a friend that actually a few friends that are African American and I just wonder what people have said when they see our friends visit with their children, not that I really care but this deal with the speech around her started me thinking about that.My grandson had been exposed to many different cultures but out here it is a little different because it used to be a close knit community wher everyone helped others,no more!!!

  46. kareninTexas says:

    OK..I watched it…whew!

  47. LibertyLover says:

I would like to know her name, so I can make sure that my kids aren’t infected with the same stupid virus that this woman is infected with.

  48. John says:

The crazy thing is that some of the protests say almost the same thing; and they are serious. We have to laugh at all of them whether they are parodies or not. And then let the crazies know we find their objections laughable.

  49. Mudbug says:

Actually, I object that time from school will be taken. For Jr. High and High, I am for it in the context of a civic’s or history class. My 1st grader is still trying not to pick his nose in public to care.

  50. Mudbug says:

Anderson Cooper is Gloria Vanderbilts’ son. Betcha did not know that!

  51. Baker's Dozen says:

Sedition! His speech is an act of sedition!
There are 2 reasons to object to your kid watching Obama
    1. You really are trying to raise a dishonest dropout (and some people are)
    2. You don’t want some black guy who is smarter, more polished, a better speaker, and has a more high powered job than yours telling your white kid what to do. But it’s not PC to say so.
The number of people objecting to the speech who don’t fall into these categories are miniscule in number.

  52. boodog says:

    karen, watch the whole thing!

  53. Lani Formerly Bash Budweiser Palin says:

Karen, it’s ok. It’s a parody, and you will be laughing at the end. Admittedly, I almost didn’t watch the whole thing myself because the beginning was too realisic.

  54. boodog says:

Ha Ha, that was good! Although, probably only funny to us libruls…

  55. kareninTexas says:

I couldn’t get through the whole video. If anybody is doing the brainwashing, it’s the parents! Can things get any crazier??? What a bunch of idiots!

  56. ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck says:

i love their sarah palin and fargo video.

  57. Bev says:

But I have heard some ladies talk like that, so it is also scary……
