The Frozen Chosen – Alaska’s Three Electors

parnell

I keep hearing people say, “It’s probably going to get worse before it gets better.” Is that supposed to make us feel better? Hey! I know you really feel uncertain and worried for the future of our democracy with the Russian hacking and whatnot, but don’t worry, it will get worse before it gets better. Who says that in your everyday life? Your oncologist? If your family, like ours, just had the 12 days of Christmas turned into 20 days of radiation, you know this is not a phrase your doctor uses. This week the Electoral College meets to cast…

The Manchurian Newscaster

screen-shot-2016-11-20-at-11-14-40-pm

I think winter has come. I’m not sure I mean that in a seasonal way, or a “Game Of Thrones” way. The waterline has officially frozen from the pond and the lines have been drained. If my little bay was a snow globe, someone has definitely shaken it. I made friends with an ermine when he was still brown. He’s white now and all I have to do to see him is walk out on the porch and call him. “Herman? Herman?” He stays pretty close and I’m happy to have him for a neighbor. He kills shrews and other…

FREE MOVIE: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy

cwmodrduqaa3aup

For more than a year Greg Palast and I have been working on a new movie. It’s about the potential theft of the election, you know the one that’s happening TOMORROW. Trump has been running around the country telling people that the election is going to be rigged. Well, I’m sorry to say he’s right. Well… half right. They are trying to rig the election – but NOT the Democrats. It’s Trump’s own border wall advisor – Kris Kobach, the Secretary of State of Kansas. He has a list of millions of voters names that he claims are double voters…

wm-zachdroberts-mariafromsesemestreet-oct29-10-of-25

Maria, aka Sonia Manzano reads the Dr. Seuss One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote at the North Carolina Democratic Party Headquarters in Raleigh. She was in Raleigh to support Hillary Clinton and to lead off a day door knocking. A couple of the kids that were in attendance were dressed in their Halloween costumes – Jacob aka Captain America makes an adorable appearance in the video a couple of times. Watch and enjoy. Maria from Sesame Street Reads to Kids at NC Democratic Party HQ from Zach Roberts on Vimeo.

Maria from Sesame Street Speaks out for Hillary

wm-zachdroberts-mariafromsesemestreet-oct29-1-of-22

It’s not very often that I geek out while covering an event. I’m a cynical guy so there’s only a handful of people that I photograph that I even try and get a selfie with. Rosario Dawson, who is one of my favorite actors and a political hero of mine, Robert Kennedy Jr. which shouldn’t need an explanation… and now Sonia Manzano who played Maria for decades on Sesame Street. Maria, um, I mean Sonia was in Raleigh, North Carolina at the North Carolina Democratic Party Headquarters speaking to a small audience of kids and their parents. In the video…

The Still Before the Electoral Storm

8162876165_8f71933400_b

If you’re paying attention, right before a storm comes, it gets really, really still. The blue herons and kingfishers seem to be the only birds still fishing. I wonder if it’s easier for them to see their tiny silver meals through the surface of the water when it is so quiet. From the porch you can hear whales surfacing and their tails whacking near to the channel. If you wait, you’ll see the wake ripple to the beach from their antics. The air smells like summer died. I have more devil’s club in my flesh than the devil does and…

Talking with Trump Supporters: Terry From Greensboro, North Carolina

screen-shot-2016-10-29-at-11-48-40-pm

Here’s the second of my Trump fans interviews of many more to come. I spoke to Terry from Greensboro, North Carolina at a Mike Pence Rally earlier this week. She’s a very (and I repeat, very) expressive Donald Trump supporter who yelled out to get people to start cheering and get motivated. She tells me that she’s, “not voting a straight ticket, I’m going to vote for who I want to.” Terry, a Trump Voter from Greensboro North Carolina from Zach Roberts on Vimeo.

Talking with Trump Supporters: Julie from Greensboro

screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-12-30-57-pm

I’m releasing these interviews unedited – as I promised to the interviewees – so that nothing could be taken out of context or put in a different one. Please excuse the audio as music is always blasting at Trump/Pence rallies so there was little I could do on that front. -Zach I spoke to Julie before a Governor Mike Pence rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. Julie is a nurse from Greensboro, North Carolina. She originally supported Ted Cruz, but moved over to Donald Trump when he secured the nomination. She’s a Christian and that seems to define her reasons for voting…

Photos: Gov. Mike Pence In North Carolina

wm-zachdroberts-mikepencegreensboroncoct24-43-of-66

Amongst the hurricane of controversies surrounding GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump, his running mate is an eye in the storm. Focusing mainly on Hillary Clinton’s e-mail scandal Pence gave a speech in Greensboro, North Carolina, Monday night. Many of the signs being waved at this Trump/Pence rally were bright pink ones that read “Women for Trump.” In fact at this rally a cursory count showed an even number of women and men, once the event began. That didn’t stop the audience from yelling the usual phrases, though – “lock her up” was chanted more than once. I’ll have video interviews from the…

Mothers of the Movement Join Hillary in Raleigh

wm-nc-mothersofthemovement-hillaryclinton-october23-2016-138-of-156

Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina Hillary Clinton was joined by the ‘Mothers of the Movement’ – mothers who have lost children and family members to gun violence and police killings. In front of a crowd of thousands at St. Augustine’s University, a historically black college Hillary and the mothers called upon everyone to vote and vote early. The five Mothers did not discuss their sons outside of mentioning their names. Secretary Clinton called for better police and citizen relationships, while not offering specific programs or ideas to further this. A dozen or so members of Moms Demand Action were also in…
