Fake News Blight Hits Alaskan Family

“Be careful with your words.” That was something I heard Pop Moore often say while I was growing up. I guess that’s a saying we all hear often enough, but I wonder how many people really think about the weight of their words. With the flood of information and the ability to have a bazillion words at your fingertips at any second — thanks to our phones — maybe we feel deluged in our own language. Much has been written about Anchorage Assembly member Amy Demboski and her — at best — careless use of language this week in regard…

Talking with Trump Supporters: Terry From Greensboro, North Carolina

Here’s the second of my Trump fans interviews of many more to come. I spoke to Terry from Greensboro, North Carolina at a Mike Pence Rally earlier this week. She’s a very (and I repeat, very) expressive Donald Trump supporter who yelled out to get people to start cheering and get motivated. She tells me that she’s, “not voting a straight ticket, I’m going to vote for who I want to.” Terry, a Trump Voter from Greensboro North Carolina from Zach Roberts on Vimeo.

Talking with Trump Supporters: Julie from Greensboro

I’m releasing these interviews unedited – as I promised to the interviewees – so that nothing could be taken out of context or put in a different one. Please excuse the audio as music is always blasting at Trump/Pence rallies so there was little I could do on that front. -Zach I spoke to Julie before a Governor Mike Pence rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. Julie is a nurse from Greensboro, North Carolina. She originally supported Ted Cruz, but moved over to Donald Trump when he secured the nomination. She’s a Christian and that seems to define her reasons for voting…

The Wall Comes to Virginia: Protests at Trump’s Regent University Rally

On Saturday in Virginia Beach, Virginia I spoke with Susan Mariner outside of Donald Trump’s Regent University rally. She was joined with several other women clad in white brick painted jump suits that had some interesting words on them then. Watch the video below to find out just why she’s wearing “Disgusting Animal” on her chest.

Trump Made SNL Relevant Again

I’ve actually started watching Saturday Night Live again. That’s a statement I didn’t think I’d say ever again. Thanks to the very timely death of the Jon Stewart’s Daily Show and Steven Colbert being bought out to move to his desperately unfunny standard late night show and several lame imitations (Samantha Bee, namely) there is a huge gap for politically orientated comedy shows. Now of course we have John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight which is a blessing – but honestly it’s already come to be a news program that is funny – not a comedy show that talks about politics….

Instead of Building a Wall, Build a Mirror

The Republican Party has been passing legislation for years that falls in line with what its nominee Donald Trump says. It’s anti-Muslim, homophobic, misogynistic, racist and rejects science. He’s actually the embodiment of Republican policy. Now Trump has mocked the pain of the parents of Capt. Humayun Kahn, a Muslim soldier who was killed in the Iraq War. He taunted Mrs. Kahn for not speaking from the stage of the Democratic National Convention. She didn’t speak because of her grief, not her religion, as he had not-too-subtlely suggested. Trump wants to ban Muslims from coming to America. He blamed President…

Cheese Whiz And Donald Trump – Why He Can Win

It’s that time of the year again … family visits. Oh, Alaska, isn’t it funny who shows up? Remember me?? Um…well, this is awkward – not really, but sure, we’ve got a spare room. Nice to meet you. Here’s a specific hint to make these visits go smoothly. Don’t talk politics. I know, it’s a prime year for it, but try really hard. You might try something like, “Let’s make our family great again …, and not talk about crazy.” Friday morning the world woke up in shock that Britain had voted to break up its longtime relationship with the…

Blood Sport Politics is Bringing Us All Down

I’ve always had a thing about grouchy old men. Most of them happen to be conservative. It might be because of a few favorite uncles, and friends of my pop. Even in politics, I’ve been moved by more conservatives than liberals — you could attribute this to the vastly outnumbered progressives in our state, but I think there’s more to it. They are a challenge to charm and usually make for more interesting conversation. (Oh, there are exceptions. For example, the new chair for the Alaska for Trump campaign.) I recently met an antique stove savant. He knows more about…

Fevered Coverage of Trump in Hartford, CT

I just left the road for a bit. I almost made it the whole season. Driving into Hartford, Connecticut at one in the morning is like driving into any number of North East cities. Not much is happening, but somehow, thanks to continual construction, there is traffic. My fever, which has slammed me since the morning is in full force – I’m not sure this is what should be called safe driving. If I make it through the next day’s rally, I’m calling it quits for at least a week. Being locked in a steel cage with dozens of other…

Wisconsin Congressman Tells Real Reason for Voter ID

Yesterday Ted Cruz won the Wisconsin Primary to the surprise of no one. While the Cruz campaign is behind in delegates, Cruz endorser and Wisconsin Congressman Glenn Grothman was already looking forward to the November election. In an interview with WTMJ at the Cruz celebration rally, he gave two reasons why the Republicans could be confident… even though Wisconsin has been a blue state for decades. “Why would it be any different for Ted Cruz or a Donald Trump?” “I think Hillary Clinton is about the weakest candidate perhaps they’ve ever put up and now we have photo ID and I think…
