Once upon a time, there was a blog on the interwebz called Mudflats. The blog tiptoed quietly through the muck of Alaskan Politics. Only a lucky few knew of the existence of this blog.
Then one day, a man who was running for President was looking for a running mate. Rather than choose one of the usual suspects, he chose a relatively unknown hockey mom who happened to be the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.
The Googles and Tubes were overwhelmed by people looking for information on Sarah Palin, and many of those people found themselves at Mudflats. And then something magical began to happen.
People united - not by party, but by a genuine concern for the future of the United States Of America - people started to connect via the Mudflats blog. The comments section was literally smoking hot, with thousands of comments posted. People began to make friends. And unlike a normal political site, trolls were ignored - or people responded with correct information to correct the misinformation the trolls were trying to spread.
Although Mudflats was hatched in Alaska, and is named for the dangerous but enticing mudflats that surround Cook Inlet, the blog has become a national - and international - meeting place for discussion, commiseration, and calls to action.
There were many of us who spend many an evening hitting shift and reload in order to read the latest comments on the blog. The community had outgrown the comments section, and there was a need for a home worthy of the community.
So a part time blogger and sometime blog host known as Snoskred sent an email to AKMuckraker, offering to help out by putting together these forums. And AKMuckraker replied with a yes. And now here we are. So grab your mud boots, a rake, and a brown bag lunch, and come join us on the brand new Mudflats Forum!
It has come to the attention of the admins and mods that a spammer named Trinity recently signed up and sent some private messages (PM's) to forum members. The PM went something like this -
